-- IN ECONOMIC SITUATION FORECASTS FOR THE NEXT YEAR, WE OBSERVE A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN PESSIMISTIC OPINIONS (FROM 25% TO 31%) AND A SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE IN OPTIMISTIC OPINIONS (FROM 21% TO 16%) - CBOS: “Assessments of the current economic situation in Poland have slightly worsened – the percentage of positive assessments has fallen by 1 point (from 36% to 35%) and the share of critical opinions has increased by the same amount (from 28% to 29%), although positive assessments still prevail. Nearly one in three Poles considers the economic situation in the country to be ‘neither good nor bad’ (32% compared to 33% a month ago). Regarding economic situation forecasts for the next year, we observe a significant increase in pessimistic opinions (from 25% to 31%) and a substantial decrease in optimistic opinions (from 21% to 16%). More than four out of ten Poles expect no fundamental change in this area (42% compared to 46% a month ago).”

-- 45% CRITICIZE THE GOVERNMENT IN CONVERSATIONS, 41% THE OPPOSITION; VETOES ARE DISCUSSED LESS; HOLDING PIS ACCOUNTABLE IS THE LEAST POPULAR TOPIC AMONG POLES RECENTLY - CBOS REPORT: “Discussions about the activities of the government and the opposition are decidedly more negative than positive. Both the actions of the government and the opposition are more often subject to criticism than approval (45% versus 16% and 41% versus 18% respectively). Other politics-related topics include President Karol Nawrocki's vetoes of laws prepared by the government, which were discussed by 43% of respondents (8 percentage points less than recorded in the previous survey), and holding the Law and Justice governments accountable, which is the least popular topic among Poles recently (28%). The threat of crime is discussed almost as rarely (30% versus 36% in the previous survey), as are difficulties in finding or keeping a job (31%).”
-- INTEREST IN IMMIGRATION TO POLAND HAS SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED - CBOS CONTINUES: “Less is currently being said about the problem of refugees from Ukraine (33%) and migrants arriving in Poland (36%). In both cases, we are recording significant drops – as much as 15 and 16 percentage points, respectively, compared to the survey from September last year.”

-- PSL HAS ENTERED INTO A GAME WITH PRESIDENT NAWROCKI REGARDING THE SAFE PROJECT - AGATA KONDZIŃSKA AND IWONA SZPALA IN GW: “The actions of the peasant party are not entirely understood by other coalition partners. - And it will turn out that there is no money there at all – a KO politician assesses skeptically. (...) There is another thread. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was supposed to act as a liaison between the government and the Presidential Palace from the very beginning. Tusk, knowing that there would be frequent quarrels between the two camps, decided that the Minister of National Defence was best suited for this task. Especially since the head of the Ministry of National Defence has the most contacts with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”

-- DEPUTY DIRECTOR DISMISSED FROM THE CHANCELLERY OF THE PRIME MINISTER: I WAS DISMISSED BECAUSE I GAVE BIRTH TO A CHILD - WP: “This is a lack of respect for labor rights, which bears the hallmarks of gender discrimination – says Milena Adamczewska-Stachura. She is a lawyer dismissed from the position of deputy director of the department for equal treatment in the Prime Minister's Chancellery.”

-- ANOTHER INSTALLMENT IN THE RARS AFFAIR - AS JACEK HARŁUKOWICZ WRITES IN ONET: “This concerns the import of 753,000 tons of coal from Kazakhstan, Colombia, and Australia in 2022-2023. The raw material turned out to be of such poor quality that it is unfit for sale and has been lying in RARS warehouses ever since. The State Treasury was to lose – according to the current government's calculations – PLN 1.3 billion from this. Another PLN 1.5 billion were to be the unjustified costs incurred in this matter by the state-owned company PKP Cargo. An additional PLN 200 million is the cost of storing the worthless raw material.”

-- THE CIVIC COALITION HAS ELECTED ITS BOARDS. IN POZNAŃ AND GREATER POLAND, WOMEN ARE ON THE MARGINS - TOMASZ CYLKA IN GW: “The new head of the Greater Poland structures of the Civic Coalition, MP Jarosław Urbaniak, did not propose any female politician for the positions of his deputy, secretary, and treasurer. In the broader, 23-member board, there were only five women, which is less than 22 percent. These include MPs Maria Janyska and Karolina Pawliczak, Deputy Governor Karolina Fabiś-Szulc, Sejmik Chairperson Tatiana Sokołowska, and the head of the Civic Coalition club in the Poznań council, Małgorzata Dudzic-Biskupska.”

-- PROTEST AFTER CIVIC COALITION ELECTIONS IN THE LUBLIN REGION - WP: “Civic Coalition activists from Kraśnik have filed a protest regarding the elections of the party leader in the Lublin region. They point to irregularities in the composition of the committee and conflicts of interest. If the National Electoral Commission accepts the request, the regional leader may change. On Friday, the regional council is to meet to elect the provincial board under the leadership of Wcisło. One important Civic Coalition politician in the Lublin region admits that a potential annulment would be widely commented on. - If the commission upholds the protest and annuls the elections, it would be a scandal for all of Poland – says a Civic Coalition politician.”

-- THE DANGER OF ORBANIZATION OF PIS AND THE ENTIRE POLISH RIGHT-WING - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “PiS therefore faces its last chance to make a choice. Does it want to aspire to create its own vision of building right-wing politics, one that is not built solely on anti-EU and anti-German phobias – and the opposition to SAFE, crowned by Karol Nawrocki's veto, was an example of succumbing to such phobias – but becomes a force striving for the sensible modernization of Poland with respect for the cultural or historical specifics of this region. Or will it fall solely into anti-Western resentment, become a tool of the American alt-right to break up the European Union from within, which sooner or later will lead to an alliance with pro-Russian forces of the anti-EU right-wing – who have exactly the same goals. And then no objections that Nawrocki dislikes Putin will help.”
