-- BIRTHS IN EMERGENCY ROOMS. PREGNANT WOMEN ARE STRESSED, ASKING WHERE THEY WILL GIVE BIRTH. HOSPITALS DON'T KNOW EITHER - ANNA GORCZYCA IN GW: "The lack of maternity wards means immense stress for women. – They will tremble, wondering if they will make it to the hospital in time. Will they give birth in the ambulance? Or will they rent apartments in Rzeszów or Przemyśl a month before giving birth, just to be sure they make it – says one midwife."

-- WOMEN ARE AFRAID OF GIVING BIRTH IN EMERGENCY ROOMS. THE MINISTRY IS IGNORING THEM - JUDYTA WATOŁA IN GW: "The draft regulation, published by the Ministry of Health two months ago, offers no answers to these concerns. Nor does it address many others. The Ministry, represented by Deputy Minister Maciejewski, is treating the problem lightly. The very way he announced his idea sparked a lot of controversy. He simply threw it out in the media, without explaining the details of the solution. It's no wonder that right-wing television stations began to scaremonger about births in emergency rooms. Maciejewski practically asked for it."

-- THE ROAD TO A DEVELOPER'S INVESTMENT IN BIAŁOŁĘKA IS TO RUN THROUGH RESIDENTS' PLOT - MIŁOSZ PIOTROWSKI IN GW: "The designer planned the sidewalk not on the developer's side, but on our plot. This means that the obligation to maintain and clear it of snow will fall on its owners, who are my in-laws, both 75 years old. So, not only would they lose part of their plot, but they would also have to take care of a sidewalk serving the developer's investment and its residents for the rest of their lives – adds Ms. Katarzyna. She argues that the new road is intended solely for the developer and the residents of his buildings, not for public purposes."

-- IN A QUANDARY ARE BOTH DONALD TUSK AND JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI - MICHAŁ KOLANKO IN RZ ON THE POLL: "The problem – which no one in the Sejm misses – is that today both coalitions outlined by Prof. Flis are complicated to implement. The 'national' part of Krzysztof Bosak's Konfederacja would likely not want to join KO, and a coalition of Donald Tusk with only Sławomir Mentzen's Nowa Nadzieja would likely not have a majority. On the other hand, a coalition of PiS with Grzegorz Braun's party and all of Konfederacja appears extremely problematic for Jarosław Kaczyński. We have a stalemate. Or rather: a space for a new phase of reshuffling on the political scene. It is also worth noting that a coalition of KO and Nowa Lewica could count on as many as 213 seats according to the new poll – so it is only a little short of the majority of 231 votes."

-- MILLER TO THE FRONT! – SHOUTS J. K. BIELECKI, AND MILLER CONTINUES TO PERPETUATE ANTI-UKRAINIAN POISON IN THE MEDIA - PIOTR PACEWICZ QUOTES POLSATU PROGRAM PRESIDENTS AND PRIME MINISTERS - IN OKO.PRESS: "Miller's words, present in the program remotely online, caused an uproar. Komorowski: 'I can hardly collect myself listening to Mr. Miller. This anti-Ukrainian bitterness of his! Miller: What bitterness?! Komorowski: If you want to hit someone, you'll find a stick. We're talking about high politics, not internal matters. It's good that the Union has made a financial effort to support the Ukrainian state, which is engaged in a dramatic fight for freedom. As Prime Minister Tusk says, it's either money now or the blood of soldiers. Our soldiers!'
Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, one of the KLD leaders, prime minister in 1991: 'I thought that older gentlemen, we were discussing at a strategic level. And here we have voices, as if from overseas [allusion to Trump, but pointing to Miller], that we must give Ukraine a daily lesson using the best methods, slap their wrists. Because we know how to fight corruption, etc. That's weak. I wouldn't want to remind you of scandals from recent years. Either we will think strategically, guided by elementary decency, or we will use such tricks that are spectacular, but it's like playing in clips. (...) Let's send Mr. Miller to the front now, to count those tanks, vehicles, or launchers, whether they add up, let him count, let him watch.
Miller (to the host Katarzyna Zdanowicz): Ms. Editor, Ms. Editor!
Bielecki: Miller to the front, that's my proposal!'

-- PACEWICZ WRITES THAT MILLER EVEN UPSET FORMER PRIME MINISTER PAWLAK: "As if he didn't see the difference between a million Russian soldiers engaging in a devastating fight with Ukrainian troops in Donbas and Zaporizhzhia, or standing on the Bug River. Miller even managed to upset Waldemar Pawlak, prime minister from 1993-1995 from the PSL.
Pawlak: 'After the outbreak of the war, the trade balance with Ukraine improved, Poland is gaining. It's not as if there are only costs here. And if we talk about security, it's important that Russian forces are tied up in fighting with the Ukrainian army, and this moves the threat away. Russia has moved to hybrid warfare in Europe, in Poland. A turning point needs to be found [in relations with Ukraine]. Just as 60 years ago, the letter from Polish bishops to German bishops initiated a process of reconciliation [refers to the 1966 document 'We Forgive and Ask for Forgiveness' – ed.]. We need to seek understanding, not succumb to the psychosis of troublemakers who are looking for fights.'

-- IN 2027, WHEN THE MEMORY OF THE 2025 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION FADES, TRZASKOWSKI MAY BE CREDIBLE AS A PATRON OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT MOVEMENT - MICHAŁ WOJTCZUK IN GW: "He manages a city with a budget exceeding PLN 30 billion, and spectacular changes are occurring in Warsaw: hundreds of trees are being planted in the center, sports halls, theaters, swimming pools are being built or will be built, and at the turn of 2026 and 2027, a new section of the second metro line will be opened. In 2027, when the memory of the 2025 presidential election fades, he may be credible as a patron of the local government movement. But he must earn that credibility now. Regardless of whether Trzaskowski wants to be the mayor of Warsaw until the end of his term or be a patron of a local government movement with political ambitions – perhaps one role does not exclude the other – he must now focus on Warsaw's local government and shed the label of a city president who is not interested in Warsaw."

-- SUCH IS THE STRANGE AFFLICTION OF THE POLISH RIGHT SINCE 1989: ITS INITIALLY SOBER DIAGNOSES GRADUALLY BECOME EXCESSIVELY RADICALIZED - RAFAŁ KALUKIN IN KULTURA LIBERALNA: "But such is the strange affliction of the Polish right since 1989: its initially sober diagnoses gradually become excessively radicalized, which in turn leads to their political or ethical degradation. It is as if the right wing in our country has been infected with a revolutionary syndrome that does not allow it to rest on its laurels and enjoy successes, but compels it to constantly raise the stakes."

-- FROM REALISM, THEREFORE, INITIALLY STILL-CONCEALED NATIONALISM WAS BORN, AND THEN ITS EVEN MORE AGGRESSIVE RELATIVE, OPEN CHAUVINISM, FOLLOWED - FURTHER FROM KALUKIN: "From realism, therefore, nationalism, initially still concealed, was born, and then its even more aggressive relative, open chauvinism, followed. And thus, over the years, the evolution of right-wing thinking has proceeded. Largely shaped during the long rule of PiS, but also corrected by the experiences of global upheavals, great crises, and ideological trends coming from outside. Until a mixture was created, in which, after successive additions, the founding component of political realism has completely dissolved."

-- AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, IT IS CLEAR THAT POLAND HAS RADICALLY TURNED TO THE RIGHT - BOGUSŁAW CHRABOTA IN RZ: "In most of the latest surveys, about half of respondents usually vote for parties to the right of the center, which – after considering the parliamentary election threshold – gives them a significant advantage over the left and liberals."

-- TRENDS CAN REVERSE - FURTHER FROM CHRABOTA: "The most important hope for maintaining power is a change in the political climate in Europe and the world. Peace in Ukraine, an end to concerns about migrants, a focus on the economy, not war. It's not that all threats will disappear irrevocably. New ones will undoubtedly emerge. Nevertheless, the social tension that benefits the radical right will somewhat subside. People will be less afraid. And this, unlike the right-wing, is what Tusk and his coalition partners are counting on. Then the trends may reverse."
