Today's State of Play
-- BOSAK ON TUSK: HE FACED A MUCH TOUGHER OPPONENT, ON WHOM HE MAY BREAK HIS TEETH - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/pl/live
-- THE PRESIDENT LIFTED THE SPIRITS OF POLES IN BELARUS - RUSLAN SZOSZYN IN RZ: “The Order of the White Eagle for Andrzej Poczobut is a signal to all Poles in Belarus that Poland remembers them and will not abandon them to fate. He belongs to the group of people who still believe that bravery and sacrifice matter in today's artificial, two-faced, and cynical world. By awarding Poczobut the Order of the White Eagle, President Karol Nawrocki shows that Poland understands this perfectly and knows how to appreciate it.”

-- EWA SZADKOWSKA ON THE PRESIDENT'S DECISION AND THE CHILLING EFFECT IN COURTS - WRITES IN RZ: “Thus, although the president's entire maneuver may cause a chilling effect (and that was probably the intention), discouraging some judges from excessive involvement in restoring the rule of law in courts, the lack of nominations for these forty-six is not a great loss.”

-- HOŁOWNIA WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE ONE WHO PREVENTED A COUP - MAREK JUREK IN CONVERSATION WITH JACEK NIZINKIEWICZ IN RZ: “Unfortunately, he also used his abilities for passionate polemics and direct combat with the opposition. Meanwhile, he should have sought a mediator position, which is part of the calling of this office. And if he had done so earlier – he would have better prepared his supporters for the necessity of talks with the opposition after the presidential elections. And these were truly his great days. Marshal Hołownia will go down in history as the one who prevented a coup and, moreover – called by name an attempt to prevent the elected president from taking office. It is a pity he did not prepare his supporters for this earlier, although the fact that he managed to do it despite this is a real act of inner freedom.”
-- CZARZASTY SENT A BAD SIGNAL BY ATTACKING THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC IN A COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE WAY. I DO NOT KNOW IF HE WILL BE ABLE TO RESIGN FROM SUCH ACTIONS ONCE HE TAKES OFFICE AS MARSHAL - MAREK JUREK CONTINUES IN RZ WITH NIZINKIEWICZ: “A choice is a choice, I do not know the backstage of the majority, this is not my environment. If he is chosen – I will watch with great curiosity how he performs his duties. We worked together, standing on opposite sides of the barricade, in the National Council of Radio and Television Broadcasting. Back then, he was a hawk of the Ordynacka circle, i.e., President Kwaśniewski's milieu. How will he fare as an arbiter? For now, he sent a bad signal by attacking the President of the Republic in a completely unacceptable way. I do not know if he will be able to resign from such actions once he takes office. Let's hope he can.”

-- HOŁOWNIA HAD THE AMBITION TO RESTORE STANDARDS FROM THE ERA OF KOZAKIEWICZ AND CHRZANOWSKI. ONLY THAT IN TIMES OF EXTREME POLARIZATION AND SHAKY LEGAL ORDER, THIS WAS NOT FEASIBLE - RAFAŁ KALUKIN IN TYGODNIK POLITYKA: “Through him, informality, wit, and sharp humor returned to Wiejska Street. Indispensable as a tool for promoting democratic patterns. But Hołownia also had the ambition to restore standards from the era of Kozakiewicz and Chrzanowski. Only that in times of extreme polarization and shaky legal order, this was not feasible. Because how can one rise above divisions and strictly adhere to legalism? Today, everything is political and serves mobilization. It is no coincidence that in the 1990 presidential campaign, Kozakiewicz could halt work on abortion projects to avoid inciting toxic emotions, and the public applauded him. A few decades later, Hołownia did the same, taking a beating from all sides.”
-- HIS LEAP TO THE GRAND PALACE DID NOT SUCCEED, AND GENERALLY, HE TURNED OUT TO BE A POOR POLITICIAN. BUT HE ROSE TO THE OCCASION AS MARSHAL - CONTINUES KALUKIN.
-- CZARZASTY HAS LONG BEEN ACCUSTOMED TO THE ROLE OF A 'THUG' AND DOES NOT ASPIRE TO FURTHER POSITIONS. HIS GOAL IS TO SAVE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE WITH THE WIDEST POSSIBLE PARTICIPATION OF THE LEFT - CONTINUES RAFAŁ KALUKIN IN TYGODNIK POLITYKA: “In the current reality, impartiality is, however, mainly a tool for personal creation, which Czarzasty is least concerned with. He has long been accustomed to the role of a 'thug' and does not aspire to further positions. His goal is to save democratic governance with the widest possible participation of the Left. And this means he will probably often use some procedural trick against the 'total opposition.' He will less often tease the skirmishers and more often turn off their microphones. And the parliamentary 'freezer' for the president's more populist projects will likely return. Hopefully without excessive cruelty, but as much dialogue and respect for procedures as there is space limited by the demands of political effectiveness. Sorry, these are the times we live in.”

-- PRESIDENT NAWROCKI CAME OUT BEST IN THE COMPETITION AT THE MARCH - PROF. RAFAŁ CHWEDORUK IN CONVERSATION WITH AGNIESZKA KUBLIK IN GW: “However, now the political significance of the Independence March is mainly connected with the second of these factors – competition on the right. Essentially, in the triangle of PiS-Konfederacja-Konfederacja Korony Polskiej of Grzegorz Braun, with the president associated with PiS in the background. President Nawrocki came out best in the competition.”
-- KAROL NAWROCKI'S POLITICAL MISSION WILL BE TO BUILD BRIDGES BETWEEN PiS AND THE RIGHT-WING TO THE RIGHT OF PiS - CONTINUES CHWEDORUK WITH KUBLIK IN GW: “Karol Nawrocki's political mission will be to build bridges between PiS and the right-wing to the right of PiS. This is not easy due to differing interests, competition for – partly – similar voters, especially on the Braun-Kaczyński axis.”
-- CONFEDERATION CAN HAVE NO GUARANTEE THAT THE REALIZATION OF SUPPORT WILL NOT OCCUR THIS TIME EITHER - CLAIMS CHWEDORUK: “Konfederacja had results close to this for a very long time. Only in late summer, when Polish-Ukrainian tensions somewhat eased, did public attention shift to other topics, and a realization of support for Konfederacja occurred. So this party can have no guarantee that such a realization will not occur this time either.”
-- THE PRESIDENTIAL CENTER COULD BE A NATURAL BRIDGE TO SOME FUSION, CREATING A NEW RIGHT-WING – SAYS CHWEDORUK IN CONVERSATION WITH KUBLIK IN GW: “The presidential center could be a natural bridge to some fusion, creating a New Right-wing based on the PiS majority and perhaps part of Konfederacja. This would be a small insurance policy for political survival, based on the assumption that Nawrocki will maintain his popularity, or at least most of it.”

-- GIANTS ARE RESIGNING FROM MAJOR INVESTMENTS IN POLAND. "THE CLIMATE IS DETERIORATING" - GRZEGORZ KOWALCZYK IN BUSINESS INSIDER: “In total, investments in Poland account for about 17% of GDP, and they should account for 25%. This is PLN 300-350 billion annually that is missing – indicates Kamil Sobolewski, chief economist at Employers of Poland. Problems have also affected major players in flagship production branches in Poland, such as household appliances. Following Beko, which laid off employees in the first half of the year, LG Electronics is following suit, announcing the layoff of nearly 200 employees from the refrigerator production department at a factory near Wrocław. The automotive industry is also facing problems – the latest report from the Polish Economic Institute indicated a decreasing role of the sector and a 8.7% drop in export value (to the level of 52.2 billion euros). Car production in Poland between January and September 2025 fell by as much as 58%. During the same period, Toyota announced a major investment in the Czech Republic.”
