Żurek:

The President is Trying to Change the System of Government Without Amending the Constitution

"The President is trying to bring about a change in the state's system of government without amending the Constitution. I have seen the President's media statements where he says: 'I decide who will be a judge in Poland.' No. That is an absolutely mistaken interpretation of the Constitution" - said Waldemar Żurek in "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

"There is the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS), where the President has his representative with voting rights, a public appointment process, open, very complex, lasting many months, with resolutions appealable to the Supreme Court. Once it becomes legally binding – then we present it to the President, and he nominates" - he continued.

"The President's prerogative is only to hand over the nomination and sign the act of nomination. Without the KRS, the President cannot unilaterally say: 'This person has graduated from law school, is a very intelligent individual, I will give them a nomination, without the Council, because why do I even need the Council?'" - he stated.
