"Yesterday's City Council session concerning alcohol sales restrictions generated a great deal of emotion. But let's clarify what's most important," said Rafał Trzaskowski in a recording published on X.

"I am not backing down from anything. I still maintain that these types of restrictions make sense. And that's why I managed to convince the councillors of this, because the majority of Civic Coalition councillors, and this is no secret, were against imposing things, prohibitions, mandates, but I managed to convince them that we need to act step by step, and following the example of other cities in Poland, we are introducing restrictions on alcohol sales in the very center, in Śródmieście and Praga Północ," he continued.

"That's where we're starting. I listened to the voices of the residents, we conducted very thorough consultations, and this is precisely the result of those consultations," he went on to say.

"Politics, ladies and gentlemen, is the art of compromise and implementing programs that have a chance of majority support. And that is exactly what happened in Warsaw," he added.
