President Karol Nawrocki will make a working visit to the USA, where he will meet with President Donald Trump. Scheduled for 5:00 PM Polish time in Washington D.C. is a welcome ceremony and the introduction of the American delegation, followed by an entry in the guestbook and the introduction of the Polish delegation.
At 5:25 PM, the meeting between the presidents will begin, and at 5:55 PM – plenary talks in the format of a working breakfast. At 7:30 PM, President Nawrocki is scheduled to speak to Polish media, and at 10:15 PM – a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
At 1:00 PM in the Sejm (Polish Parliament), a press conference will be held by the head of the PiS parliamentary club, Mariusz Błaszczak, along with MPs Andrzej Śliwka and Zbigniew Kuźmiuk.
– Poland needs cheap electricity – for Polish families, but above all, for our economy to be competitive and continue to develop dynamically! Unlike the current government, we know how to achieve this, and we will demonstrate it tomorrow! – wrote Mateusz Morawiecki on social media, announcing the presentation of the plan.
– I will present a plan to make electricity bills 30% lower for families and businesses – noted the former prime minister.
07:58
– I know they spoke, among other things, about the visit to the USA. There is contact, whether one likes it or not. I think the Prime Minister spoke very precisely about these relations after their first meeting, already after the elections, saying that simply, cooperation is necessary here. These are not social gatherings; it's not that the two gentlemen arrange meetings to chat about the weather, but about important matters – stated Adam Szłapka on 'Piasecki's Interview' on TVN24.
07:59
Szłapka:
I hope the president will ultimately act responsibly, perhaps sometimes contrary to his own circle
– Even if the President's circle attempts to generate conflict here, Polish-American relations are important, and cooperation is necessary. I hope that the president will ultimately act responsibly, perhaps sometimes contrary to his own circle – stated Adam Szłapka in 'Rozmowa Piaseckiego' on TVN24.
08:04
– It is a fact that the President, as he himself has repeatedly stated, lacks significant experience in politics generally, and not much in international politics either. Previously, he was the head of the IPN. It's worth utilizing experienced individuals, and it's also worth drawing upon institutional memory, from the entire archives, from everything available at the MSZ – stated Adam Szłapka in "Piasecki's Conversation" on TVN24.
08:05
Szłapka:
While Przydacz was at the MFA, Wawrzyk was reportedly selling visas
– I'll allow myself a moment of malice. When Marcin Przydacz worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Mr. Wawrzyk was seemingly selling visas. Marcin Przydacz is the last person who can possibly criticize the MFA – stated Adam Szłapka on 'Piasecki's Interview' on TVN24.
08:15
Szłapka Asked About Deputy Minister Changes:
I'm Taking the Heat Not for My Own Mistakes.
– That's true, and apparently, I won't be making any declarations or setting dates here anymore, because I'm taking the heat not for my own mistakes. The ministers are still working on it [regarding changes to deputy ministers]. Certainly, the reshuffle issues will be finalized, as announced by the Prime Minister – stated Adam Szłapka on TVN24's 'Piasecki's Conversation'.

“That’s a good question. I hope so [that the dismissal of Ruchniewicz from the position of director of the Pilecki Institute concludes the entire scandal]. The question is whether it can truly be called a scandal. The personnel decision resulted from my investigative proceedings, all the data I gathered, and an analysis of the situation at hand,” Marta Cienkowska said in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on “Gość Radia ZET.”
When asked if she would resign after this matter, she stated: “No. Because if I were to yield to the opinions of Mr. Sawicki or other Members of Parliament, I most likely wouldn’t have accomplished anything in this ministry. […] I am not afraid to make difficult decisions, even though some politicians may not like it.”
“I realize that many people who participated in this whole situation might have felt wronged. […] I am committed to thoroughly clarifying this matter. Some consequences have already been drawn following my analysis of the situation. It’s not the case that I make decisions without empathy; I possess a great deal of it,” she continued.
Asked if she would like Hanna Radziejowska to return to the Institute, she replied: “These are decisions for the new director of the Pilecki Institute. He also stated directly that the issue of the Pilecki Institute in Berlin, meaning that branch, is important to him, and he will clarify it quickly.”

Cienkowska:
Changes are Needed at TVP, But I Can't Imagine the Minister of Culture Pressuring its President
– Changes are needed at Telewizja Polska (Polish Television). I believe that the television could operate much more effectively, reach many more viewers, and perform better based on much improved metrics – said Marta Cienkowska on "Gość Radia ZET."
– I really enjoy working on streamlining processes. [...] This is precisely what we need at Telewizja Polska. Hence this audit of expenditures and processes. Based on the data, I will make specific decisions – she stated.
– However, Telewizja Polska is a free media outlet, and I cannot imagine a situation where the Minister of Culture pressures the president of Telewizja Polska – she indicated.

Cienkowska on the Details of the New Media Law:
Minister Domański Has Reservations About Public Media Funding.
"The media law is ready; it has been sent to the government. First and foremost, this law implements a very important EU directive, specifically the European Media Freedom Act, which has been in force since August 8th, so we are running a bit short on time," said Marta Cienkowska on "Gość Radia ZET."
"We have had discussions with Minister Domański, who has reservations about the funding of public media. This is because we want public media to be fully financed by the state budget, as this is how we guarantee their independence," she stated.
"And secondly, we want to abolish the subscription fee, which is an absolutely archaic charge," she pointed out.
09:03
Cienkowska:
I Cannot Imagine President Nawrocki Not Signing the New Media Law
– The [media] law is ready. I hope it passes through the Sejm and is quickly signed by the president. Because I cannot imagine a situation in which President Nawrocki does not sign the media law, which implements EU directives, and simultaneously incurs penalties for Poland for the non-implementation of European acts – said Marta Cienkowska on “Gość Radia ZET”.
09:08
– I have a sense that this [new media law] is a well-developed compromise that will truly be easy to implement. I hope it will be submitted to the Sejm in October – said Marta Cienkowska in "Gość Radia ZET."
09:25
– For this year, absolutely nothing has changed; it's exactly the same reading list, plus what we've already introduced: the possibility for students and teachers to choose an additional book – stated Barbara Nowacka during 'Poranna rozmowa w RMF' (Morning Talk on RMF), when asked about reforms to the reading list curriculum.
– And next year, the reform will be launched, and the team working on the core curriculum has proposals on how to encourage young people to read. This doesn't mean there will be less. It means it will be more interesting – she continued.
– When teachers see that young people are absorbing [the material], they provide additional, supplementary readings, and I would like one thing to be clear: it's truly not the minister who should choose the books; rather, let those who simply know about it handle it – that is, teachers, practitioners – Nowacka concluded.
09:25
Nowacka on Religious Education in Schools:
Nothing Will Change.
– There will be one religious education class for a very obvious reason: parents want religious education classes to be in schools. And this is primarily a request from parents in smaller towns – stated Barbara Nowacka on “Morning Conversation on RMF”.
– Nothing will change. There will be one religious education class, meaning we have reduced it by one class, held during the first or last lesson so that it is convenient. […] I believe this is a sensible, fair, and rational solution, also offering parents who don’t want to drive their children to a catechetical room after work or during work so they can have their religious education class at school – she continued.
09:26
Nowacka on Health Education:
We've Prepared a Good and Necessary Subject.
– I absolutely do not see this [students opting out of health education] as a failure, because we have prepared a good and necessary subject. Given the political storm surrounding it, we protected schools as much as possible, and now we have given ourselves a year to see how this subject functions. It's also clear that young people, when they hear all this monstrous, aberrant nonsense from parts of the Episcopate or PiS politicians who haven't read it but are eager to comment, are perplexed. However, they will soon experience this subject with their teachers – stated Barbara Nowacka during "Poranna rozmowa w RMF" (Morning Talk on RMF), when asked about the new school subject – health education.
– We are at a point where many rationally thinking people are starting to read these curricula, because they hear from the pulpit about depravity, they hear from PiS politicians that there are unacceptable and demoralizing things in it, and they start reading with interest and see that it's not true. And we have two effects. Firstly, it turns out that PiS are liars, it turns out that the Episcopate has not read the core curricula, and it is they who will ultimately bear the negative consequences of their hopeless campaign. My only concern is that the health and safety of young people will suffer – she continued.

Cienkowska:
German Reparations? 'This Matter Has Already Been Formally Settled'
– This issue [of war reparations from Germany] was, if I recall correctly, formally concluded in 1953. I know those were the times of the PRL (People's Republic of Poland). […] Do I believe Germany has made amends to us? I think they should look after those individuals who witnessed this history and were directly involved in those events. […] I would like the matters and financial provisions for those people who are still alive and witnessed the war to be appropriately addressed – said Marta Cienkowska on “Gość Radia ZET”.
– That is my opinion. We are also bound by certain international treaties that have already been signed, and international agreements that were signed in the 1970s and 1990s. Therefore, formally, this matter has already been settled. […] I believe that the German state should look after those individuals who witnessed this war – she stated.

Nowacka:
Tying Teacher Pay to the Economy – On Education Wage Policy and a New Citizen's Bill
– Fortunately, changes to the Teacher's Charter have come into effect thanks to our work with trade unions. We eliminated the so-called 'czarnkowe' hours, improved teachers' working conditions, and salaries are rising. I understand that from a teacher's perspective, they should be rising faster, and that is our political commitment, but we increased spending on education from 65 billion to 115 billion, and that is genuinely visible in schools every day – stated Barbara Nowacka during 'Poranna rozmowa w RMF'.
– The citizen's bill – which we indeed voted for, after all – will be considered in the Sejm, and it is our political commitment that the linking of teacher pay to the economy, rather than to the will of any particular political formation, should come into force – she continued.

Tusk on Defense Spending:
Poland Will No Longer Be a Big Piggy Bank Solely for Foreign Companies and Allied States.
– The number one task for the government, and for people, institutions, and companies cooperating with us in this area, is primarily to maximize Poland's participation in all projects. Poland will no longer be a big piggy bank solely for foreign companies and allied states when it comes to spending money on armaments, defense, and broadly understood infrastructure serving state security. Our most important task today is to strengthen Poland's autonomous, sovereign production capabilities, and consequently, maximum self-reliance in terms of the country's defense capacity – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
11:43
Tusk:
The Most Important Message From Today For Me
– The most important message from today for me is for PGZ, in response to PGZ's appeal for Polish companies wanting to participate in this major modernization program to come forward, nearly 1,000 Polish companies, small, medium, and large, have registered. They are ready to cooperate and to effectively utilize Polish funds for Polish production – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
11:47
– The Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the Presidential Chancellery many days ago that, in addition to the government brief we prepared for the President for his visit to the USA, the Minister also unequivocally offered readiness to accompany the President personally or to send one of the deputy ministers. However, this did not meet with interest from the Presidential Chancellery. We are always ready to help, because these are crucially important matters – our relations with the USA, and indeed all international politics – which require full cooperation and professionalism. Therefore, we are always prepared for such cooperation in this area; truly, there is not a word of exaggeration here – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
– For now, there is no positive response from that side, but let's wait, maybe it will change – he continued.
11:53
Tusk:
'I told the President one thing'
– I told President Nawrocki one thing. I always repeat this to our American friends – whenever I have the opportunity – and this was also the case when President Trump was president for the first time, when I was the President of the European Council. I also explained with great conviction, even when Law and Justice (PiS) and President Duda were in power, that regardless of who governs in Poland, when it comes to our relations with the USA, they are marked by loyalty, a readiness for full cooperation, and traditional friendship, because it is we, Poles, and they, Americans – I'm talking about nations – who are the guarantors of these relations – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
– Poland, I repeat, it doesn't matter who is president or who is prime minister. Poland is the most stable link in NATO in this part of the world and the most loyal partner for the USA. I am glad that yesterday Secretary Rubio confirmed that the American side also sees Poland this way and that this will not change – he continued.
11:57
– I asked President Nawrocki to present this once again to President Trump: that Poland, on matters of security, international politics, and relations with America, is absolutely united. We differ on almost all issues, we argue, we quarrel – yes, that's democracy, a Polish characteristic – and not exclusively Polish – but on these matters, we must be like one fist – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
12:09
– I would like us in Poland to stop – and I address this to all people of good will – to stop inflaming the atmosphere. It is clear that cohabitation, the cooperation between the government and the president, will be difficult. I have a very critical view of many of President Nawrocki's opinions, announcements, and initial actions – very critical – and I expect that political confrontation here is inevitable, because we represent somewhat different political worlds and probably also different worlds of values. That is how it is – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a press conference at the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
– The Polish political scene is quite clearly divided; we won't change that even with the nicest gestures, but in these matters, I want to help President Nawrocki, because frankly, this Polish infighting interests me little when we are talking about matters as important as our security – he continued.
As the Prime Minister said: – Polish-American relations mean, first, second, and third, our security, and I would very much like, unlike during the governments of my predecessors, when decisions were made quite thoughtlessly and without reflection about spending tens, even hundreds of billions of zlotys, sometimes uncritically, for these relations with the USA to be as friendly as possible, but again, on a partnership basis. So my main recommendation for President Nawrocki was this: – with heads held high, not on our knees, as friends, but with the awareness that we are a proud and sovereign state.
12:12
– Tomorrow, I will be in Paris not only for the conference of the coalition of the willing, meaning those states helping Ukraine in the war with Russia, but I will also find time for a one-on-one conversation with President Macron to discuss how to mitigate the effects of Mercosur. What I also said at the Cabinet Council and explained to the President – there is currently no one, besides Poland, who wants to block Mercosur. So, we cannot outvote it. Poland will oppose Mercosur because we want to truly care for, or at least demonstrate, that we will not back down when it comes to the interests of Polish agricultural producers, but there are no partners to block it right now – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition.
– I have the right to believe that we will receive from the EC not only a declaration but also practical decisions concerning precisely these defense and control mechanisms. Mercosur will probably be adopted by a majority of votes, Poland will be against it. If it becomes a fact, we will not rest until these defense mechanisms come into force – he continued.
This will be, in a way, a sign that we have a new Poland.
