– The problem with the rule of law in Poland began back in 2015 when PO (Civic Platform) selected judges for the Constitutional Tribunal in reserve. Then PiS (Law and Justice) came along, outdid PO, and broke the rule of law even more. It reached a point where they released, for example, COVID-related laws that contradicted the Constitution, and regulations that contradicted those laws – stated Sławomir Mentzen during a debate on TV Republika, wPolsce24, and TV Trwam.

– We are now witnessing overt lawbreaking, the illegal takeover of the prosecution, the illegal takeover of TVP, various types of 'extraction arrests', and a democracy at war – he continued.
