Tusk Meets German Chancellor

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The leaders are expected to discuss, among other things, bilateral cooperation issues and topics from the current EU and international agenda.

At 6:00 PM, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will be officially welcomed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk in front of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM). At 6:15 PM, a meeting between the two politicians is scheduled. At 6:30 PM, a meeting between Tusk and Merz with the media is planned, and at 7:00 PM, a delegation meeting will commence.

Duda in Bulgaria

On Wednesday, President Andrzej Duda will begin a two-day visit to Bulgaria. – The Law and Justice party (PiS) deprived itself of funds by breaking the law, while this narrative that PiS services, because it was under PiS that Nawrocki was vetted and filled out this questionnaire, are trying to sink their own candidate, is utter absurdity. We all know that he has a past that he should talk about, because every candidate for President of the Republic of Poland should have a simple, clear, and very transparent and lucid biography. That is why Polish women and men deserve to know absolutely everything about us before making the most important decision, who to entrust with the most important office in the Republic of Poland – stated Rafał Trzaskowski on Radio Zet.

PiS is obviously grasping at straws like a drowning man, trying to attack and throwing accusations left and right. These accusations [regarding his apartment] are completely absurd, and everything is clear in my financial statements – stated Rafał Trzaskowski on Radio Zet.

– I'm more interested in what Karol Nawrocki discussed [with the US President]. That's why I'm wondering if he talked about ending the war in Ukraine, what exactly he told Trump, and how he defended Polish interests – stated Rafał Trzaskowski on Radio Zet.

– It’s hard for me to imagine such a government [Civic Coalition with Confederation]. We have a very stable coalition, and that’s the most important thing today. Any speculation about other coalitions is completely pointless – stated Rafał Trzaskowski on Radio Zet.

– This matter, like all previous attacks on Karol Nawrocki, demonstrates his above-average, one might say, not only integrity, but a certain empathy, because you recall, what it started with, the attack on him, that his son is too old in relation to the marriage […] then what turned out, turned out – Jacek Sasin stated in the "Morning Conversation" on RMF FM.

– Then the alleged connections with criminals, with gangsters turned out to be that he visited them in prison and was re-educating them […]. A man buys an apartment, pays market price […] even though he paid the money, he allowed that person to continue living there – he continued.

– A preliminary agreement, [Karol Nawrocki] lent [Mr. Jerzy] 12,000 zlotys for the purchase of [an apartment], [leaving] a little over 100,000 [PLN] over 5 years. […] For 5 years, all expenses for the apartment, rent, electricity […], groceries, medicine for this gentleman. In 5 years, he didn't spend 100,000? Let's be serious – said Jacek Sasin on RMF FM.

"First of all, [Karol Nawrocki] saved this man from homelessness, because if he hadn't made that offer... this man would have lost the apartment," Jacek Sasin stated on RMF FM.

"Secondly, once he bought the apartment, he had the right to tell the owner, 'Sir, take your things now, because this apartment is already mine and I'm taking possession of it, I can rent it out, benefit from it.' He didn't do that. He humanitarily allowed this Mr. Jerzy to continue living in the apartment, even though he had paid for it," he continued.

"Any other person would simply have said, 'Mr. Jerzy, you sold the apartment, you took the money, we agreed on something, please move out.' Karol Nawrocki acted differently, and today he is being punished and attacked for being an extremely noble person," he went on to say.

– He has one. In the common understanding of the word, he has one. Because if you have more apartments, you have them for a reason. You derive some benefit from them. […] Now he doesn't have this apartment, because he doesn't have the keys – Jacek Sasin said on RMF FM, referring to Karol Nawrocki's apartments.

– I have no knowledge other than what has appeared in the media. There is no connection with the activities of the Chancellery here, I have no insight into any of these documents. Therefore, I only know what has been said on this matter – said Małgorzata Paprocka in an interview with Grzegorz Osiecki on "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

– Undoubtedly, it is in the interest of the candidate supported by PiS to clarify this matter to the voters – I have no doubts about that – and to put an end to this issue, which involves various threads, as quickly as possible – she indicated.

– From our side, it has not – said Jacek Sasin in RMF FM, when asked if the non-aggression pact with Confederation had ended.

– I don't want to particularly comment on that, I think it's very short-sighted to attack Karol Nawrocki today – he continued, after the host pointed out that it seemed that way from Sławomir Mentzen's side.

– It will bring no effect, if Sławomir Mentzen believes that by such a brutal, unjustified, and unnecessary attack on Karol Nawrocki he will gain something, I don't think so. However, he is doing it unnecessarily because it ultimately helps Rafał Trzaskowski – he went on.

– It would be good if Sławomir Mentzen asked Rafał Trzaskowski, because we talk so much about financial statements, security clearances, questionnaires, ABW (Internal Security Agency), the services, whether it is true that Rafał Trzaskowski did not receive security clearance from the services at one point, even though he submitted such a questionnaire […] if he is attacking his opponent, he should do it equally – Jacek Sasin said on RMF FM.

– I am posing such a question publicly here on your program, because such information is circulating. I would like Rafał Trzaskowski to address this, because voters should also know, if he did not receive security clearance, despite submitting a questionnaire, then he did not receive it for some reason – he continued.

– Official support for Mr. Nawrocki – the President has clearly indicated for many, many months which candidate is politically closest to him. The President appeared at the convention in Łódź [...] and, following the line of the political camp, indicated that this is the candidacy – Małgorzata Paprocka said in "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

– I believe that nothing has happened so far that would cause a change in the President's stance. However, this matter [Karol Nawrocki's apartment] certainly needs to be clarified – she assessed.

– I think at this moment it was a directly political decision and an indication of the premises and view on this matter. Here, a clear, very strong signal to the parliamentary majority, which also voted inconsistently on this bill [on reducing the health contribution for entrepreneurs], that with full openness to changes in the tax system or contribution system, such principles should still be introduced according to the rules. Such a situation was not present here – Małgorzata Paprocka said in “Sygnały dnia” on PR1.

– Please forgive me, but given how Minister Domański carries out his duties – I am referring here to breaking the law by withholding funds owed to political parties – it is difficult to believe the minister's assurances that he will act in the citizens' interest in other matters – said Małgorzata Paprocka in PR1's "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day).

– The minister's assurance, based on nothing but his word, that the funds will be found – they might be found, but the minister today has not indicated any budget pocket from which he will take this 5 billion PLN, nor has he been able to say whether, for example, tax increases are not being planned – she pointed out.

– We want to ask several questions to the Vice-Chairman of Civic Platform, the Mayor of Warsaw, who is currently running for president. […] Has Rafal Trzaskowski ever applied for, or requested, a vetting procedure to be initiated against him? – said Radoslaw Fogiel at a press conference.

– He held important positions, Minister of Digitization […], Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. It seems natural that in these roles he had or should have had access to classified information. Did he undergo a vetting process by the Internal Security Agency, did he ever request such a process, did he withdraw such a request if he filed one, was the request considered, did Rafal Trzaskowski obtain access to classified information, or was access perhaps denied to him? – he continued.

– These are matters that the public should be aware of […]. Mr. Rafal, have courage, answer these questions – he added.

– Is wild reprivatization returning to Warsaw? Residents have been raising alarms for many days that Warsaw intends to sell a tenement house at Marszałkowska Street 66, despite a shortage of municipal apartments in Warsaw – said Sebastian Kaleta.

– Another matter is Rafal Trzaskowski's asset declaration, which is causing a lot of controversy. […] Rafal Trzaskowski owns several apartments and lives in a property over 100 square meters in Warsaw's Kabaty district […] the greatest controversy surrounds the value of this apartment – said Mateusz Kurzejewski.

– Rafal Trzaskowski deliberately, with premeditation, understated the value of his apartment […] by attesting to falsehoods. […] I entered the same criteria on a popular apartment sales website as Rafal Trzaskowski's property in Warsaw's Kabaty district has, and here are the results: 2 million PLN, 2 million PLN, 2 million PLN, 2.7 million PLN. […] And Rafal Trzaskowski valued it at 1 million PLN, he halved its value – he added.

– We are asking Rafal Trzaskowski for several things. First and foremost, a correction of his asset declaration. An explanation of why he has deceived Poles once again. An explanation of whether there are any other components of his assets that he has concealed, and an apology – he emphasized.

"Karol Nawrocki's visit to the White House, his meeting with the US President, Trzaskowski's worst campaign results so far. This information sent Donald Tusk into a rage and he decided to launch 'Operation Karol' – a coordinated operation announced by PO politicians, prepared by special services and carried out by an anti-Polish media cartel, which favors the current authorities," says the narrator in the video published by Karol Nawrocki's campaign team.

"Tusk and Trzaskowski's team is illegally using all state tools for media games, political repression, and false accusations. They will turn helping another person into a scandal and slander," he continues.

"The deceitful operation of Tusk's arrangement has been debunked at the chief of staff's conference, where key documents on this matter were presented. Together, we must stop this lawlessness," he emphasizes.

– Mr. Trzaskowski has another matter, he has the Warsaw scandal, compared to which this case, in which there is nothing wrong… I guarantee it, I don’t regret [appointing Karol Nawrocki] in the slightest. – Regarding commentary on the statements, one should ask Sławomir Mentzen himself or the campaign spokesperson. My assessment of this situation is, however, a bit more nuanced. I believe that based on the information we have publicly, it is still not entirely clear, at least to me, what actually happened there. Without a doubt, Karol Nawrocki got tangled up, and quite significantly, in explanations that changed over time – said Krzysztof Bosak on Radio Wnet.

– There are no procedures for this situation. Any talk that Marshal Hołownia served up yesterday, that he would summon someone before a commission, all of it has no constitutional basis. There are no explanatory procedures – said Krzysztof Bosak on Radio Wnet, when asked if Konfederacja plans to submit a formal request for a full audit of Karol Nawrocki's and other candidates' financial statements.

– Likewise, those defending Karol Nawrocki, citing that he underwent ABW checks multiple times, had attestations, and access. These are not actions that concern what the dispute is about, because the dispute is, in fact, largely on a moral level, concerning whether he behaved fairly or unfairly towards a person who was in a difficult situation – he continued.

– Neither the ABW, nor any Supreme Court, nor the CBA […] deals with moral evaluations, it deals with formal evaluations – he continued.

– Clearly, there is some confusion here, yes, clearly there are some missteps, there is inconsistency, there is some terrible carelessness, imprudence of the staff […] however, no state institution […] by virtue of any law deals with clarifying such an issue. I warn against the illusion that any state or control institutions like the Supreme Audit Office, the Sejm justice committee, the CBA or the ABW will replace our democratic electoral debate – he added.

"As for my support for Karol Nawrocki, I believe I have already expressed my opinion on this matter very clearly and explicitly," said President Andrzej Duda at a press conference with the President of Bulgaria, when asked whether he maintains his support for Karol Nawrocki in the context of recent information regarding an apartment in Gdańsk.

"You know, I clearly remember how I was slandered, brutally slandered by various circles; sometimes it was very unpleasant for me, in 2015 before the presidential elections. I was also brutally slandered in 2020 before the presidential elections. Fortunately, my voters and my compatriots were not deceived and chose wisely," he stated.

– The political entity currently engaged in the peace process is the President of the United States, Donald Trump – said President Andrzej Duda at a press conference with the President of Bulgaria.

– Let's be frank: looking at the present moment, if anyone is capable of forcing Russia and Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine, it is solely a superpower that can grab Russia by the throat. Only someone who has no economic interests with Russia, who is in fact an economic competitor to Russia, especially in strategic sectors, can grab Russia by the throat – he continued.

– Such a competitor to Russia, when it comes to, for example, energy, is certainly the United States, which is a major exporter of LNG gas. […] President Donald Trump once stopped the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. I recall 2020 and American sanctions on companies building Nord Stream 2. It was Donald Trump who imposed these sanctions, blocking this construction – he went on to say.

As the President assessed: – Today, we truly only have the United States, the world's greatest military superpower, a nuclear superpower, as the one who is capable – also through economic competition and the ability to exert various kinds of economic influence and manage the global economic market – of forcing President Putin to cease aggression against Ukraine. I hope this will happen.

– If we are talking about what to do to have more Poles in Poland and to avoid a demographic collapse in the near future… 800+, nurseries, and all these benefits we are currently trying to offer to young parents will not be enough – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

– If people are to have children, they must, first and foremost, have the freedom to decide about their lives. Today in Poland, among people aged 18 to 35, two-thirds still live with their parents, they are still financially dependent on them – he continued.

– One of the most important things… we can also take care of is housing. […] Special attention must be paid to housing in the form of affordable rental apartments – he went on to say.

"As President, I will do absolutely everything to veto all ideas [for loan subsidies], whether it's 2%, 0%, or ideas that the Left once proposed, which I hope they have now repented of and withdrawn, suggesting a compromise with the developer lobby and the banking lobby, in the form of one zloty for loan subsidies and one zloty for SIM subsidies – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

"Absolute uncompromisingness is needed here – he continued.

– We need to sort out, and I would also like to champion this, the situation with municipal apartments. Over the past dozen or so years, Polish local governments have gotten rid of over half a million municipal apartments on the free market, simply by selling them off. This should not be allowed. Communal property is not property that is meant to be sold off – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

– Every fourth municipality already belongs to SIMs, which shows the will of local governments to build, to provide these apartments for people. Our predecessors built 16 apartments in SIMs over 5 years, this year we will deliver two thousand apartments, and in the following years, tens of thousands more will be under construction – said Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz at a press conference.

– The issue of the health contribution will certainly return; we won't let go of this. We owe it to all those who yesterday President Duda, in cahoots with the Left, slapped. I'm talking about those who work the hardest […] sometimes from 3 AM to 11 PM, to 1 AM, having no holidays or actual sick leave, running small hairdressing salons, small flower shops, small stores, trying to make ends meet – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference, when asked about the president's veto of the health contribution bill.

– Mr. President Duda [...] until yesterday evening, I haven't checked today, the papers from the President have not yet arrived at the Sejm. And what does that mean? That he did something that, as Speaker of the Sejm, he has never done before, because always when he announced a veto, I simultaneously received the document, there was a communication from the Presidential Chancellery – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

– They announced it [the veto on changes to the healthcare contribution] in the media, and until yesterday evening it wasn't in the Sejm. What does that mean? That perhaps President Duda simply wanted to cover up the Nawrocki scandal with this decision – he continued.

– First and foremost, Mr. Sławomir Mentzen should explain a few things from his life to us, perhaps not necessarily concerning real estate, but for example, what MP Ćwik spoke about in the Sejm today, how Mr. Mentzen transferred shares worth several million zlotys to a family foundation, and then sold them through the family foundation, thereby avoiding almost three million in taxes that he would have had to pay to the Polish state – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference, when asked about Sławomir Mentzen's recent posts attacking Karol Nawrocki.

– The fact that one hasn't ripped off some old person for an apartment doesn't necessarily mean they have the character we require today from someone who is to be the President of the Republic of Poland. The President of the Republic of Poland cannot be a shrewd trickster – he continued.

– I say he [Sławomir Mentzen] isn't the best when it comes to economics because I saw an analysis of his PhD today. I have the impression that even though I didn't finish my studies, as I got involved in work in my fifth year, my semester papers were intellectually more advanced than his PhD – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

– Yesterday, I made the decision together with my wife, Marta, to donate this apartment to charitable purposes to one of the charitable organizations that will continue to carry out the mission I was undertaking for Mr. Jerzy Żywicki – Karol Nawrocki said in a statement.

– This apartment, in the coming years, I hope, in the coming decades, will serve the elderly, people who need help, excluded individuals, so the essence of its existence will not change for the next dozen or so years – he continued.

– Of course, in my donation agreement with the charitable organization, with whom we are already in contact, there will be a clear stipulation that Mr. Jerzy Żywicki [...] can use this apartment until his death – he added.

– I carried out the entirety of this agreement and will continue to do so until the end, because Mr. Jerzy always wanted me to take care of his funeral and his gravestone. Therefore, I will fulfill everything I have declared and committed to – said Karol Nawrocki in a statement.

– May 2nd, Flag Day… it is an absolutely sacred symbol for us. Of course, there are those who can forget the flag, but the vast majority of us always remember the flag – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Wrocław.

– The flag reminds us of what is most important… namely, values – he continued.

– At the moment when we talk about values, especially in these last few days, it has become clear that we must not forget the most fundamental values. About honesty. About selflessness. Ladies and gentlemen, these elections that lie ahead are also about this. Precisely about honesty and selflessness – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Wrocław.

– I am absolutely ready to extend my hand to all those who are even a little bit malicious today, to tell them what we can do together. And this is also my clear message to other politicians of the Left, but also to Szymon Hołownia. I am truly looking for what unites us and I am ready to cooperate with you in order to implement this good, positive program for young people – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Wrocław.

– Today, when we talk about the prospects of young people, we must mention the construction of new rental housing. We would like to build more housing. […] Today, if someone asks what to do for young people, the answer is more money for local governments and the construction of municipal housing. This is solving real problems – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Wrocław.

– These elections, and perhaps especially so, as the past few days have proven, are about values, about honesty, selflessness, about whether we will deal only with shouting and screaming and clenched fists, or whether we will deal with those who want dialogue and understanding – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Wrocław.

– Various projects concerning loans are emerging, and it's enough to tell the president of the Polish central bank, the National Bank of Poland, to stop behaving like a politician, and lower interest rates, and then we will also be able to deal with this problem much more effectively – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Wrocław.

– This is what I want to promise you, my dear compatriots: as President of Poland, I will build deportation centers, not integration centers for foreigners, and Poland will be safe. For me, our security, the security of Polish women, Polish men, and our children is paramount. We cannot have a president who is a deputy to the lackeys and butlers of German affairs, who will not take care of our western border – stated Karol Nawrocki in Płock.

– These elections will not be just elections between two specific individuals: between Karol Nawrocki and Rafał Trzaskowski. Who we are and where we come from is, of course, very important. – The meaning of a struggle should be measured by the values in whose name this struggle takes place, not by the chances of victory. We have a great chance for victory today, and we have concrete values that stand behind us. Today, I want to speak about one of them: the sovereignty of Poland – stated Karol Nawrocki in Płock.

– These elections on May 18th are, above all, a choice between a sovereign Poland and a Poland that succumbs to the centralizing tendencies of the EU and ceases to be sovereign with each passing year. I propose to you a sovereign Poland, one that remains Poland, based on 1000 years of our values and heritage – he continued.

– Yes, we want to be part of the European Union, which offers our entrepreneurs the opportunity of a common market, enabling businesses to undertake many key investments and activities. Yes, we want to benefit from the Schengen Area. I will take care of our partners in the European Union, but I don't want the European Union telling us how we should dress, what to eat, or what our farmers should do under the pressure of the Green Deal – stated Karol Nawrocki in Płock.

– For 20 years, we have been living under PO-PiS rule. Both of these parties have held all the presidencies and prime ministerships during this time. Both of these parties have essentially done similar things, utilized TVP for their party objectives, for producing slander against their political opponents. Both have used special services for their internal party dealings, complicated taxes, indebted our country, and supported EU climate policy, the Green Deal, and COVID policies – stated Sławomir Mentzen in a recording published on social media.

– Both sides engaged in scandals while the most important matters for Poland and Poles were neglected. Both sides only worried about how to win the next election, not about what Poland's future would look like – he said.

– I am fed up with a system where two major parties treat others as appendages so they can continue to steal and destroy the state. First, the media associated with PO and PO itself attacked me, and now PiS has attacked me. Only because I spoke the truth about Karol Nawrocki's past. I did not make any pact with PiS, I owe them nothing, and I am not in PiS without reason, precisely because I disagree with this party's policies – he emphasized.

– I disagree with tolerating the fact that Nawrocki defrauded an elderly, infirm person of an apartment, not paying for it at the time, that he deceived a notary, and that he attested to falsehoods in a notarial deed. It's not my fault that you chose such a candidate – the leader of Konfederacja continued.

– Now PiS attacks me, claiming that telling the truth about Karol Nawrocki's past is an attack on Poland and the right wing. But it was PiS, during its time in power, that treated Konfederacja very brutally. It was PiS that for years denied us access to TVP, preferring to promote Lewica instead. It was PiS that led to Konfederacja losing its subsidies, and that led to TVP publishing recordings of the Supreme Audit Office president on the eve of the 2023 parliamentary elections, which were intended to harm Konfederacja, possibly leading to Tusk winning those elections. Everything suggests that PiS thought we would be their Hołownia – he said.

– Konfederacja is ready to take responsibility for Poland. Konfederacja is ready to co-govern Poland, but on normal terms. We will never be anyone's appendage, we will never tolerate theft, scandals, or the plundering of state property. We will never be anyone's Hołownia – he continued.

– In these elections, there is finally hope for change. For the end of the 20-year PO-PiS duopoly, for a return to normal politics. Where who is right matters, not who belongs to which party. Where fraudsters and thieves are not tolerated simply because they are from the 'right' party – he stressed.

– On May 18th, let's go to the polls, let's end the 20-year PO-PiS era, and give Poland a chance for real change – he concluded.

– These are the first such democratic elections in which a civic, non-partisan candidate for president, and I say this with pride, supported by PiS, is deprived of financial resources because the PiS subsidy was unlawfully taken away – said Karol Nawrocki in Płock.

– It is an unequal fight, also because the institutions of the Polish state, government television – and you remember that the funds were supposed to be allocated to children with cancer, but were instead given to government television, which is part of my opponent's campaign team – the Supreme Audit Office, the prosecutor's office, and now we know, the special services – all against the civic candidate for the office of the President of the Republic of Poland – he continued.

– On May 18th, each of us, my dears, must have our own Monte Cassino. Each of us on May 18th must have our own Monte Cassino amidst toil, in the sun, under the constant pressure of enemy fire. – We have a real chance to strengthen Polish-German relations in such a way that they serve Poland, Germany, and Europe as best as possible. I am convinced, I know your views very well, your attitude towards our relations, towards Poland, towards Europe, and I know enough to be optimistic today about the future of our relations – stated Donald Tusk during a briefing with the German Chancellor.

– Everyone here in Warsaw and in Poland received this gesture, which shows how important our relations are for both sides, with great appreciation. The fact that on the first day of your term, you found time to visit Paris and Warsaw clearly demonstrates how important Polish-German relations are for the future of Europe, and by extension, in a sense, for the future of the world. – We have practically closed the illegal migration route organized by Belarus and Russia. And by international smuggling groups through us. We expect not only understanding, but full support in these tasks. – Every day, we have incidents on the Polish border, violence organized by Belarusian special services. Just yesterday, another soldier was injured at the border. – I will expect full cooperation from the new German government and Mr. Chancellor, primarily on securing the EU's external borders, and Poland has exceeded its duty – he continued.

– I also made a proposal to the Chancellor that the German side consider extending the presence of German Patriot batteries in Rzeszów until the end of the year. – I will ask the Polish Sejm, at its next session, to extend our new regulation, which temporarily suspends the right to apply for asylum for those who are illegally attempting to cross the Belarus-Poland border – stated Donald Tusk during a briefing with the German Chancellor.

– We also want to build the strongest army in Europe, and we will do it. In 5 years, the Polish army will be the strongest in Europe. Not because we have some hegemonic ambitions; I am a reasonable politician, this is not about any delusions. It's simply that we are at such a time and in such a place where we have no other choice. – The diplomatic decision on reparations was made during communist times. We really had nothing to say on the matter. We did not decide this. Have the Germans ever made amends for the losses and tragedies of World War II in Poland? No. Of course not. Is it even conceivable? I am a historian, I am from Gdańsk, I could talk for hours about what this bill looks like, and it has never been settled, but we will not ask for it. – Yesterday, I had a long phone conversation with President Macron to finalize all the details. Yes, this is a historic moment in terms of increasing the security of France and Poland, truly historic. And the treaty, in which we assure each other of mutual assistance in a situation of threat or aggression, also taking into account France's capabilities in certain defense aspects, is truly a game-changer from our point of view, and it is highly anticipated and positive – stated Donald Tusk during a briefing with the Chancellor of Germany.

AfD is the Chancellor's problem, not mine. I have my own AfD in Poland. I'm trying my best, and so far, we're managing – stated Donald Tusk during a briefing with the German Chancellor.

– Recently, even Wipler said it was okay, even though he is in the opposition, because I recognize the rights of the opposition. This means 28 opposition bills have been read in the last 1.5 years. At every Sejm session, I ensure that there is at least one bill from PiS and Konfederacja – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– We had simple options on the table [after entering the Sejm]. Sometimes you dream it will be perfect, but you have to choose between this option and that option. The first option was to go into coalition with PiS. They offered us mountains of gold, truly. For example, Władysław Kosiniak as Prime Minister, with 13 out of 16 people in the government from Trzecia Droga, myself as the sole candidate of the right-wing bloc for President in 2025, and beforehand, Speaker of the Sejm, anything we wanted, as long as they wouldn't go to jail and face accountability. We told them absolutely not – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– I truly want to break this duopoly, and break it not in the style of: I'll come out with a big hammer, destroy everything, and then reign there myself, but to move forward from this clinch, which means doing exactly what I've done my whole life – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanal Zero.

– I am part of a coalition that I am indeed co-creating with Donald Tusk, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz… No [I'm not breaking it from the inside], we agreed on parliamentary elections and a governing coalition. We did not agree on a presidential one, we have different visions of the presidency. I believe that a president from the duopoly will be a bad solution for Poland – he continued.

– If he really wanted to play something like that, which Kosiniak and I also proposed for a year, to create, we provisionally called it the party of 40-year-olds, meaning he leaves PO, Kosiniak leaves PSL… – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– PO keeps losing these presidential elections in the second round, one after another, because there simply isn't a Poland that would give, for example, Rafał Trzaskowski – in my assessment today – 51% support in the second round. In the first round, there will be flexing of muscles, a 'great result'… – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

When asked if Trzaskowski would lose the second round, he replied: – I believe I have significantly higher chances of winning the second round. I fear that this might be the case [that he will lose]. For one reason: Rafał, despite considerable financial investment over the last six months, has added practically zero percent to PO's support.

– He hasn't gained any additional, extra support, and that's a dangerous sign for the second round, because in the second round, you don't need a strong 35%, you need 51% – he assessed.

– I have no influence over MAP, where I don't have a single deputy minister, because after what was done to our deputy minister, I decided to withdraw him from there. I communicate clearly and distinctly to Donald Tusk that MAP is a problem. I state clearly and distinctly that in my assessment, not in all corners of this ministry are we upholding the standards we should be. I think he [Donald Tusk] knows this, perhaps he is trying to resolve it somehow, but I am telling him this very clearly – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– I realized there's a problem with mileage reimbursement, among other things. We are currently preparing a regulation that will change the rules for calculating mileage reimbursements. Although there's a howl in the Sejm on this point – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– There was one Marshal [...] it was probably under Oleksy or Kuchciński, who tried to change the mileage rules. It lasted a week before he had to withdraw from it after MPs rebelled against it – he continued.

– I assure you that [we will] do something about it – he added.

– As Marshal, I sometimes find myself in conflict with the government. I ask Minister Berek, I ask others, and I say: where are the laws? Why aren't you pushing forward with laws on important matters that we should have passed long ago? And then I hear: ah, because Duda will veto them, we're waiting for the next president – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanal Zero.

– So what if Duda vetoes them? We should pass laws; that's what people elected us for. We passed one law concerning the Constitutional Tribunal. Where is the law on separating the Prosecutor General from the Minister of Justice? On the structure of the courts? On the Supreme Court? Where are all those laws that we should already have? Where is the law on public media? – he asked.

– I don't have such plans. We'll see, tomorrow I will make a decision on this matter [participation in Friday's TV Republika debate], because it's simply too much – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– My opinion is that we can consider working on this [cadastral] tax under one condition – it should apply from the 3rd apartment or from the 3rd property for people who have fewer than three children. I would link the number of properties with the number of children – stated Szymon Hołownia on Kanał Zero.

– Why? Because I know there are many people, as I talk to them, who treat an apartment or property as a kind of dowry or a start in life. Not as an investment, but as a start in life for their children; they save for it, they take out loans. I would respect that, their foresight and effort – he explained.

– If a cadastral tax proposal appears and includes this postulate I mentioned, I am willing to support such a proposal. But only under this condition – he indicated.
