Giertych on the Abortion Bill He Didn't Vote On:

Never Has There Been Such a Sloppy, Unreasonable Bill.

- I accept the penalty imposed on me by the PDT with humility, but I would ask you to read my explanation. As a suspended MP from KO, I am hereby suspending my own decision not to comment on abortion - Roman Giertych wrote on Twitter. - I only read the bill authored by MP Anna Maria Żukowska from Lewica on Monday. Never before has there been such a sloppy, unreasonable, and in some points even dangerous for women bill. Not to mention that there has never been a bill that would introduce such a free-for-all regarding abortions - he continued. - The bill assumed the deletion of Art. 152, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Penal Code, meaning absolute freedom to perform abortions on demand up to 12 weeks. Anyone can perform an abortion, as long as it's not a doctor (the authors did not delete Art. 4a of the act, which allows a doctor to perform an abortion only in the cases listed there). Of course, this would mean that in most cases, an abortion would be performed by a charlatan. At the same time, the bill deleted Art. 154, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code, i.e., it repealed criminal liability for the death of a woman resulting from an abortion performed by someone. This is madness! To prohibit doctors, allow shamans, and release them from criminal liability for errors? General provisions on medical errors do not apply to charlatans. Exempting these individuals from criminal liability and allowing them to perform abortions is an aberration. I don't need to say that such provisions were not in KO's program - Giertych wrote. In the further part of his post, Giertych suggests, among other things, that the bill decriminalizing abortion would introduce interpretive freedom, through which the right-wing could in the future impose life sentences for terminating a pregnancy.
