Kierwiński on the European Parliament: Many Issues to Address

- Because there [in the EP] there are also many issues to address, such as the money for the expansion of this barrier, such as a different approach to policy. I think there are very important issues to be resolved there. I have spoken many times with my partners from other countries regarding the Ministry of Interior and Administration. Their view on migration issues at our eastern border is completely detached from reality. This is a big job that needs to be done – stated Marcin Kierwiński in the "Piasecki's Conversation" on TVN24.

Schetyna on the National Council of the Judiciary: It's hard to imagine us doing something against people who must guarantee the return of the separation of powers

- The situation is quite sensitive. For years, we fought and supported judges at demonstrations in front of the courts. It's hard to imagine now that we would do something against these people who must guarantee the return of the separation of powers (...) we will see what initiative the Minister of Justice proposes after consultations and talks. Please remember that President Duda is in the last year of his term, and he has announced a veto - stated Grzegorz Schetyna on the program "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

07:55

Kierwiński:

We Had Several Difficult Conversations with Tusk

- We definitely had a few difficult conversations [with Donald Tusk], whether this is a good scenario [for the EP election], but we ultimately agreed that it's a good scenario for KO - stated Marcin Kierwiński in "Piasecki's Conversation" on TVN24.

07:55

The Chairman's Decision: Kierwiński Announces Talks on the PO Secretary-General Position

- In Warsaw, members choose their leader. I do not intend to resign; I plan to continue managing Warsaw's Platform affairs. Regarding the [PO] Secretary-General, that is always the decision of the party chairman. We have not yet discussed this matter with the chairman – stated Marcin Kierwiński in the "Piasecki Interview" on TVN24.

08:01

Kierwiński:

PiS's entire policy largely serves Russia

- PiS's entire policy is, in large part, a policy that serves Russia. The fact that they, out of foolishness, met with Putin's puppets in Europe, does not absolve, so to speak, the fact that Poland simultaneously is in alliances, cooperating with NATO and the EU. Please look at the policy as a whole – stated Marcin Kierwiński in "Rozmowa Piaseckiego" on TVN24.

08:04

Schetyna:

I am convinced this coalition is stable
We signed the coalition agreement precisely to implement it and endure together for four years; this is a four-year agreement. I am convinced that this coalition is stable and will remain so until the end of the term, until the elections - stated Grzegorz Schetyna on the PR1 program "Sygnały dnia".

08:09

Schetyna on the Presidential Election:

Trzaskowski is a Natural Candidate.

- For now, all signs in heaven and on earth indicate that Rafał Trzaskowski is a natural candidate. He ran, achieving an excellent result in the last campaign, he is a natural candidate. After the presidential elections, after the European Parliament elections - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in the program "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

08:09

Kierwiński:

This is not Sovereign Poland, but a Greedy Gang

- This is not Sovereign Poland, but a greedy gang. If all of this is confirmed, and I assume the materials are strong, as the prosecutor's office has been working on this for 2-3 months, information is already emerging today that there will be motions to lift immunity, which means the matter is very serious. If this information is confirmed, then every politician of Sovereign Poland should actually resign their mandate and leave Polish politics - stated Marcin Kierwiński in "Piasecki's Conversation" on TVN24.

A Form of Political Theater and an Element of Party Warfare. Dworczyk on the Government Commission on Russian Influence
- I don't believe this commission will clarify anything, just as the parliamentary inquiry commissions are not supposed to clarify anything. It is a form of political theater and an element of the party or political warfare being waged by Donald Tusk's government - said Michał Dworczyk in the RMF FM 'Morning Interview', when asked about the government commission on Russian influence.

08:46

Dworczyk on the European Army:

I Will Be Against Such an Idea.
- I am critically disposed towards this idea and will certainly, if such a slogan is uttered [...] I will postulate that it never be realized. Why? Because NATO, which today is the strongest political-military alliance, is largely based on American capabilities, over 80% of capabilities are American. Today, we are not able, as in the case of Germany, I am talking about European countries, a part of European countries is still unable to allocate even 2% of GDP to this strongest alliance - said Michał Dworczyk on RMF FM, when asked about a European army. - So now, if we, unable to fulfill our commitments to NATO, want to start building some alternative, it will end with us losing NATO or American support, and we will not build any alternative. That is why I will be against such an idea - he continued.

08:54

Dworczyk on Defense Commissioner Post: Sikorski Should First Outline His Vision for the Office and His Mission
- If you ask me whether I would like a Pole to take such a position [Defense Commissioner], my answer is: absolutely yes. [...] In my opinion, this is a premature discussion [about Radosław Sikorski's candidacy], because we first need to hear from the candidate. [...] Radosław Sikorski should first state how he envisions both the functioning of this office and his mission within it - said Michał Dworczyk on RMF FM.

09:12

Hołownia on the June 4th Rally:

Everyone Has Their Job to Do.

- I still don't know enough about this event, what its format will be, because it's five days before the elections, and I understand it's a PO, KO event. We have this pre-election week packed to the brim with trips, meetings, and communication, because this is truly the time when the fate of the European elections will be decided. So if you're asking me today, I'd say probably not. If I knew the details of the invitation, a broad invitation, because none has been sent to me, but I still believe that each of us has their job to do – stated Szymon Hołownia in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on "Graffiti" on Polsat News.

09:13

Hołownia Skeptical About Banning PiS:

I See No Basis for It, These Are Campaign Statements.

- I absolutely see no basis for banning PiS. I think these are campaign statements that go too far and do not serve well the purpose of what is important today, which is for people in Poland to go to the elections, to find themselves in democracy. Because if they don't find themselves in it, someone else will exploit them, outside the democratic mechanism. It is in our interest to calm the situation and to develop – said Szymon Hołownia on Polsat News.

09:13

Hołownia on CPK:

A Symbol of Poles' Aspirational Vision.

- I understand that tidying up is necessary, but if we continue to chase people around with a vacuum cleaner, which is essential at home, and say that this is our idea for the next 4 years, people will kick us out of that home. We have to show them how to furnish this home, we have to show that we have an idea for this shared home and the details of this idea; we, in the campaign, but also I think more broadly as a coalition, should start presenting it as soon as possible. People are longing today not just for peace, but for development; they need a story. Please look at what happened to CPK; we sometimes call it CPK patriotism. It has become a certain symbol of an aspirational vision, like Gdynia once was, like other projects – stated Szymon Hołownia on Polsat News.

09:14

Hołownia Announces Decisions on Motion for Trial of Adam Glapiński Before the State Tribunal

- I believe this motion [concerning Adam Glapiński's trial before the State Tribunal] should not be blocked, but I also need to familiarize myself with what lawyers from both sides are saying, and then we will decide at the Sejm Presidium – said Szymon Hołownia in an interview with Polsat News.

11:32

Kobosko on Hołownia’s Candidacy:

It Will Be His Decision.

- It will be Marshal Hołownia’s decision. It will be his decision. If you are asking for my assessment, I believe he should run in the presidential election, and secondly, that he would be a very good president, just as he is a very good Marshal of the Sejm. But he will make that decision himself. For now, we are not hearing other names of individuals who have openly declared their desire to run as Marshal Hołownia has. I would gladly hear those names, both from our democratic side and from PiS – stated Michał Kobosko in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

- I don’t think he has made a final decision, but he will ultimately make it, it must be his decision – he added.

11:45

Siemoniak to PiS: A Colonel Praising Putin Was Appointed to the Government. Such Matters Will Be Accounted For

- I want to assure you that such matters will be accounted for, and Minister Macierewicz and Minister Dworczyk, for appointing Colonel Gaj, who before 2015 praised Putin and made anti-Ukrainian statements, which he did not hide, to your government – stated Tomasz Siemoniak in the Sejm.

11:47

Government Actions on Nuclear Power Plant Construction in Poland. Müller Announces Parliamentary Inspection
- Starting from July 1st this year, significant increases in electricity, gas, and heating prices are expected. This is one of the reasons why the modernization of the Polish energy system is necessary. One of the ways to achieve this is precisely through the construction of a Polish nuclear power plant, and that's why the Law and Justice government decided last year to sign agreements with American companies to ensure this nuclear power plant is built in Poland - said Piotr Müller at a press conference. - For these agreements to be implemented, further government actions are needed. And today, we are asking about these government actions. I will submit a special parliamentary inquiry on this matter, and next week I will also conduct a parliamentary inspection in this regard to verify if and at what stage the appeal against the environmental decision, which was filed last year, is proceeding, because this procedure is currently being extended beyond the standard environmental procedure timelines. Secondly, has the Polish government already submitted a notification regarding the planned state aid for the construction of the Polish nuclear power plant, and have specific actions also been taken in this regard with the European Commission [...]. Is this government truly working on the further stages of building this power plant - he continued.

11:55

Kropiwnicki to PiS: You were doing business with the Russians, non-stop

- The truth is that in 2019, you imported 10 million tons of coal to Poland from Russia. The imports were carried out by companies you supervised. The same was true in previous and subsequent years. These are facts, you were doing business with the Russians, non-stop - stated Tomasz Siemoniak in the Sejm.

11:58

Müller on the NBP: PO Wants to Politicize This Institution by Dismissing the President During His Term Without Any Legal Basis
- Regarding the actions of the National Bank of Poland, which helped save jobs and save businesses in Poland during COVID [...] such actions should be praised, rather than lead to the State Tribunal [...]. As for accusations of apoliticality, politicality, I will only say this: Our Constitution directly regulates the principles of appointing and functioning of the President of the National Bank of Poland. He is appointed through a joint mechanism of the President and the Sejm and is independent in his actions. What Civic Platform wants to do today is precisely to politicize this institution by taking it over, simply by dismissing the President of the National Bank of Poland during his term without any legal basis. [...] The only reason they are doing this is that he was once appointed during the rule of Law and Justice - said Piotr Müller at a press conference.

12:05

Czarnek Attacks Tusk and Responds to Civic Platform's Accusations:

Who Shook Hands with Putin and Was Merkel's Lapdog?

- Who, from this podium, said: "We want cooperation with Russia as it is"? Donald Tusk. Who shook hands with Putin on the pier? Donald Tusk. Who divided the visits to Smolensk and politically led to the catastrophe? Donald Tusk. Who was Merkel's lapdog and built Putin up politically together with Merkel? You are the ones who are pro-Russian - stated Przemysław Czarnek.

12:14

Civic Coalition Files Motion for State Tribunal Against Świrski:

Affecting 3 Segments.

- I would like to inform you that this motion was just submitted to the Marshal of the Sejm, Mr. Hołownia. The motion, including evidentiary material, is 285 pages long, and it has been signed by 185 parliamentarians of the October 15th coalition. The motion concerns 3 segments, namely the blocking of funds from the subscription fees for public radio and public television, which amounts to approximately 300 million zlotys. If this situation continues, the entire scenario where public radio stations stop paying their obligations this summer is not excluded. The next accusation concerns the delaying, essentially blocking, of re-licensing for private broadcasters. The third accusation, this group of accusations, essentially concerns the non-execution of statistical research regarding television station viewership in Poland – stated Piotr Adamowicz at a press conference.

12:14

Sienkiewicz on the National Broadcasting Council: Destroying Institutions Must Be Subject to Sanctions and Penalties

- The National Broadcasting Council has become exactly the same as the Tribunal of Ms. Master Przyłębska. A completely destroyed institution, which formally pretends to still be an institution operating in accordance with the law, but is simply an appendage of PiS, led by a gentleman who called himself a PiS Taliban and behaves as such, as the head of a state's constitutional body – stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz at a press conference.

- The problem is that if we are to restore elementary law, this type of institutional destruction, characteristic of PiS, must be subject to some kind of sanction and penalty. The motion for impeachment against Mr. Świrski is a logical consequence of such thinking. In addition, I remind you that there is a motion to the prosecutor's office for exceeding authority, within the penal code, which will be considered in parallel. Simply put, we cannot tolerate destroyed institutions by PiS continuing to exist in Poland, while in reality pretending to be those institutions – he continued.

13:57

Bodnar Announces Requests for Immunity Revocation in the Justice Fund Case:

A Matter of Days.
- It is worth mentioning that Mr. Tomasz Mraz previously cooperated with the prosecution regarding the clarification of this matter [the Justice Fund]. According to the information I have received, he was questioned dozens of times by the prosecution; all these materials and all this information he had to convey have been gathered and deposited with the prosecution - said Adam Bodnar at a press conference. - They have, incidentally, become the basis for undertaking these actions concerning both the searches, i.e., actions from the end of March, as well as the subsequent indictment, and have also, in part [...], formed the basis for requests, recognized by the court, for pre-trial detention - he continued. - Now is the stage of preparing requests for the revocation of immunities. I am using the plural because it will be more than one request. I would not want to preempt the prosecution now as to how many requests there will ultimately be [...]. From the information I have received, I know that this is a matter of days rather than weeks - informed the Minister of Justice.

14:07

Bodnar Announces Press Conference to Summarize Actions Regarding the Justice Fund

Adam Bodnar announced that a press conference concerning the Justice Fund will be held next Wednesday.

- It will summarize various actions related to the Justice Fund and the various results of audits that have been conducted here. At the same time, we want to state that we are moving on from the past and moving forward in the context of announcing new, fully transparent, professionally prepared competitions - said the Minister of Justice.

14:09

Duda:

I Will Not Accept or Sign Off on an Ambassador Appointed in This Manner
There are no objections to the ambassador, neither from NATO authorities, and I'm thinking here primarily of the Secretary General. There have been no reservations regarding his work, nor the results of that work over all the years he has held this position. There are also no reservations about his work and how he is preparing for the NATO summit, neither from the Prime Minister, nor the Minister of Foreign Affairs, nor the Minister of National Defence. So, I must say that this attempt to remove him from his post just before the NATO summit effectively disrupts our preparations for the NATO summit. In fact, it's worth asking ourselves here whether perhaps the commission for examining Russian influences, which the Prime Minister recently appointed, should not be looking into this – stated President Andrzej Duda at a press conference with the President of the Republic of Cyprus. - Such a change is not made before a major event, for which this individual is currently working on behalf of the Polish state. Only if the NATO summit in Washington takes place in mid-July, then I believe that after the conclusion of the NATO summit, the procedure for changing our representative to NATO can calmly begin – he added. - There is no consent from me for this candidacy, there is no consent from the President of the Republic of Poland. This candidacy was presented today without the consent of the President of the Republic of Poland, in violation of the existing procedure. I want to declare to you that I will not accept a candidate presented in this way, and I will not sign off on an ambassador appointed in this manner. I believe this is a violation of principles and a lack of political culture – he continued.

18:12

Śmiszek on Immunity Verdicts:

A Matter of Days.

- I think it's a matter of days. Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar spoke about it. The prosecution has been working since December and gathering evidence. For example, the director, who has recently made a meteoric media and parliamentary career and talks about things that happened in the Ministry of Justice, has been questioned dozens of times - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek on RMF FM.

18:20

Śmiszek Announces Government Approval of Draft Law on Hate Speech Ban

- Today, two hours ago at the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers, the draft law amending the Penal Code to prohibit hate speech, to criminalize hate speech, was adopted, and on Tuesday, this draft will most likely be presented at the Council of Ministers and sent to parliament – stated Krzysztof Śmiszek on RMF FM.

18:24

Śmiszek Announces Talks on the Civil Partnerships Act:

PSL is the brake.

- It is very clearly visible that PSL is the brake. It is not Lewica, after all, that is blocking the adoption of the bill on civil partnerships. A bill, not a legislative crumb, but a really decent bill - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek on RMF FM.

- Minister Kotula is working on this project. We are talking, and I deeply believe that after 5 months it is still possible to continue these discussions - he continued.

18:30

Śmiszek Skeptical of Budka's Idea Regarding PiS:

There is no room today.

- I think that today there is no room for delegalizing organizations like this [like PiS]. We need to first examine the party's financing. We must remember who dissolves political parties in Poland – that is the task of the Constitutional Tribunal. In today's conditions, a Constitutional Tribunal that does not exist will certainly not dissolve the PiS party – stated Krzysztof Śmiszek on RMF FM.

18:52

Tusk:

If You Don't Want War, Go Vote

- If you don't want to go to war, go to the elections. No one will dare to attack a strong and united Europe; a weak and divided one may fall victim to aggression - wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Twitter.

20:13

Tusk on His Guarantee for Prosecutors: 'I Am Paying the Highest Political Price for This'
- Prosecutors in Poland today, since I became Prime Minister, have one thing guaranteed: neither I nor any of my ministers will call them, will not expect swift administration of justice, because some politician or another has decided it so. And I am paying the highest political price for this, because a great many of our compatriots, I understand this, thought: there will be a change of government, the next day there will be punishment. One has to wait for punishment, because the prosecution service and the court are responsible for punishment – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk in an interview with Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz on TVP Info's program 'Pytanie dnia' (Question of the Day). - As long as I am Prime Minister, politicians and political parties will not decide who goes to prison – he continued.

20:17

Tusk:

I don't want Bodnar to put the pedal to the metal
- I don't want the Minister of Justice, Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar, to put the pedal to the metal – Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on TVP Info. - If it seems that things are moving slowly, that these mills of justice grind slowly, that there is a lot in the media about scandals, crimes, abuses, and they are not sitting [...] I wanted Poland to become a rule-of-law state again, meaning a place where the judiciary, independent of politicians, decides who goes to jail and who doesn't, not me – he continued.

20:20

Tusk:

I'm Obsessed with Upholding and Respecting the Constitution

- Minister Sikorski, with whom I often discuss this, displays profound patience. I know what constitutional powers the president has, and I respect them. Unlike PiS, unlike Kaczyński, and at times, unlike President Duda himself, I am obsessed with upholding and respecting the constitution. This was one of the main reasons why I re-engaged in Polish affairs – so that the constitution governs politics, and not that current politics distorts the constitution – Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on TVP Info.

20:24

Tusk:

Russia's Aggressive Behavior Is Increasingly Visible Here
I have no doubts that today, in a situation where there is a war, where Russia's aggressive behavior is increasingly visible here. I am also a human being, and I will often use strong language wherever it concerns our fundamental security – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk on TVP Info.

20:28

Who will be the Civic Coalition's presidential candidate? Tusk cuts speculation
- No, I will not be running in the presidential elections. There is a whole group of candidates determined to fight for the presidency, and I have really a lot of work to do here, and neither months nor years will be enough to clean all this up, so I really have my hands full - Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on TVP Info. - I would be very happy if he tried again, he was very close to victory back then. All these opinions, they are true, these were also opinions of international institutions, that the previous presidential elections, they were not falsified in the sense that someone changed the results or added to them, I am not claiming that, but they were obviously unfair. The entire state apparatus was used against Trzaskowski, so I am convinced that if the elections had been fully fair, if the state had behaved neutrally during these elections, then Rafał Trzaskowski would be the President of the Republic - he continued, when asked if Rafał Trzaskowski would be the Civic Coalition's candidate for president. - I am convinced that he has all the qualities to be a good president, but I know that he has Warsaw in his heart and that he also has work to do, so it will be his decision, but if he decides to run, he will have my full support - he added.

20:35

Tusk:

I cannot allow even a single person dependent on Russia to operate in public life in Poland
- I cannot allow anyone, not even a single person, to operate in public life in Poland, in state institutions, who may be dependent on Russia, under Russian influence, or an agent of Russian services. I would have no right to hold the office of Prime Minister for another moment if I were to overlook this - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk on TVP Info.

20:38

Tusk Comments on Mraz's Testimony:

Organized Criminal Group Led by the Attorney General.
- I accept these formulations. Yes, criminal power. Because if today both the court and the prosecution acknowledge that the testimony and materials provided by the whistleblower, director Mraz, who is spilling, forgive me for this phrasing, on his former colleagues from the Ministry of Justice, are credible, and they have publicly stated this, then we are de facto dealing with an organized criminal group, headed by the Attorney General. There has been no such state in Europe [...] I don't remember any country in Europe where such actions, which today deserve the opinion, the assessment, that this is organized criminal activity, were headed by a Minister of Justice – Attorney General - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk on TVP Info.
