Wednesday's Political Agenda: Sejm to Vote on No-Confidence Motion Against Kierwiński, Kaczyński's Address, and 14th Anniversary of Smoleńsk Disaster Commemorations

At 8:20 AM, a ceremony commemorating the 14th anniversary of the Smoleńsk disaster will commence at Powązki Cemetery, where a delegation from the Civic Coalition parliamentary club, including Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, Katarzyna Piekarska, and Dariusz Joński, will lay wreaths.

At 8:50 AM in Kraków, President Andrzej Duda is scheduled to address the media following the laying of a wreath before the sarcophagus of the late Maria and Lech Kaczyński in the crypt at Wawel Castle. The head of state will also lay wreaths and participate in a holy mass in Warsaw.

At 10:00 AM, a delegation from the Civic Coalition parliamentary club, including parliamentary club leader Zbigniew Konwiński, Marta Golbik, and Krystyna Sibińska, will lay wreaths in the Sejm, under the plaques commemorating the victims of the disaster.

Also at 10:00 AM, a press conference with the Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, is scheduled.

At 11:00 AM, a three-day Sejm session will begin. The initial agenda includes the second reading of the government's draft amendment to the act on the National Council of the Judiciary. At 1:30 PM, the second reading will commence for the draft amendment to the act on supporting borrowers who have taken out housing loans and are in difficult financial situations, as well as the act on crowdfunding for economic ventures and support for borrowers.

At 3:30 PM, MPs will address the motion to express no-confidence in the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński. A vote is scheduled for 5:00 PM.

At 9:00 PM, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński will deliver an address in front of the Presidential Palace as part of the commemorations of the 14th anniversary of the Smoleńsk disaster.

Kierwiński:

Since the October Elections, a Practice Has Emerged of Us Running in Three Blocs. I Think This Will Also Be the Case in the European Parliament Elections
- Since the elections on October 15th last year, a practice has emerged of us running in three blocs. And I think this will also be the case in the European elections – said Marcin Kierwiński in a conversation with Grzegorz Osiecki on PR1's "Sygnały dnia". - We know that a single list, which we as Civic Coalition (KO) advocated for many months before the October 15th elections, is a construct that is not feasible today, and also was not a few months ago. So, if there is no single list, then the best formula is to run in three blocs. This formula has already won elections twice, it won the elections on October 15th [...], we won in the majority of regional assemblies, and it will likely be the same now – he continued.

07:58

Scheuring-Wielgus:

I Completely Disagree That the Left Focused on Abortion in the Elections. Hołownia Sparked This Topic.
- I completely disagree with the thesis, and I will repeat it like a mantra, that the Left focused on abortion in the local government elections. We did not initiate this topic. [...] I will tell you who did. Szymon Hołownia. We submitted the abortion bills on December 13th. From December 13th, we had January, we had February, we had March. And Szymon Hołownia, who [...] said there would be no parliamentary freeze, held these projects in the parliamentary freeze for three months. For these three months, we tried in the corridors to bring about this debate about abortion. And then we started to be misled and lied to by Marshal Hołownia. And if we are talking about who started this entire debate, it was Szymon Hołownia - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Agata Adamek on TVN24's "One on One". - In this local election campaign, we focused on housing, schools, and hospitals. The fact that these topics did not break through is, of course, our fault, but none of us truly thought about discussing abortion. That's how it turned out, and it is indeed a mistake - she continued.

08:01

Scheuring-Wielgus:

No one in the October 15 coalition will let it fall apart
- No one in the October 15 coalition, and I want to say this clearly, will bring about a situation where this coalition falls apart, because none of us simply want Law and Justice (PiS) to return to power - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus on TVN24.

08:06

Mastalerek:

PiS Can Still Take Power, But Must Learn Lessons, Change Its Approach, Fight, and Have a Coalition Partner

- Yes [PiS can still regain power in Poland]. First and foremost, it must learn lessons from its parliamentary election defeat, it must change its conduct, its actions, mobilize, maintain unity, and fight, but it must also have a coalition partner. This is probably, at least, coalition capacity – stated Marcin Mastalerek in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Radio Zet.

08:09

Mastalerek:

PiS Has Two Paths

- PiS has two paths: either they manage to win once more on their own, building a broader coalition than just PiS – after all, President Duda spoke of a Coalition of Polish Affairs during the 2020 presidential election. If such a coalition is built, they can win independently, or simply have a coalition partner – stated Marcin Mastalerek on Radio Zet.

08:10

Kierwiński:

There's talk of 2-3 ministers wanting to run in the European Parliament elections
- I am not going [to the European Parliament] - said Marcin Kierwiński in "Sygnały dnia" on PR1. Asked which ministers are heading to the EP: I think everything will be clear soon. [...] It will be the Prime Minister's decision, the coalition leaders' decision. There is indeed talk of 2-3 colleagues, but I don't think there are any final decisions yet.

08:16

Kierwiński:

Lower Turnout Than in Parliamentary Elections Means Real Losses for the Ruling Coalition
- It's more a question of how we are going to mobilize our electorate. After all, this 20% lower turnout than in the parliamentary elections means real losses for the ruling coalition - said Marcin Kierwiński in "Sygnały dnia" on PR1. - We will certainly accelerate, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced, the implementation of our concrete program points. Yesterday, the act on the so-called 'babciowe' [grandparent benefit]. We will also accelerate the process of settling accounts for the wrongdoings committed by PiS - he continued.

08:17

Scheuring-Wielgus:

After the debate on women's rights, Hołownia is unsure of his presidential poll numbers, so perhaps he wants to secure his future seat
- No, I don't expect this [government reconstruction that is unfavorable for The Left or the questioning of Włodzimierz Czarzasty's political future], when it comes to government reconstruction, it won't be Hołownia or Kosiniak-Kamysz who decides this, but the Prime Minister will decide in agreement with all his coalition partners, which also includes The Left, that's the first point - Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus said on TVN24.

- Secondly, I don't want to be malicious towards Marshal Hołownia, because I like him, but I understand that after this whole discussion about women's rights, which showed people what Marshal Hołownia's stance is, he also doesn't have the certainty that he will have good poll numbers as president, so perhaps he wants to secure his seat for the future, yes, but I'm saying this out of malice, I don't want to be like that - she continued.

08:21

Kierwiński:

I am convinced we will fulfill all promises to voters during this term
- The coalition agreement is very precisely written. I am a representative of Civic Coalition (KO), so we have our 100 concrete proposals. We will proceed within the framework of this plan, and within the framework of this plan, we will fulfill promises to voters. And I am convinced that we will fulfill them all during this term - said Marcin Kierwiński in “Sygnały dnia” (Signals of the Day) on PR1.

08:21

Scheuring-Wielgus:

We agreed to vote for sending all abortion bills to committee
- I am generally calm about the Left parliamentary club, because we had a conversation on this topic yesterday. We unanimously agreed that we will vote to send all [abortion] bills to committee. What's more, thanks to Czarzasty and Gawkowski, we managed to negotiate that our bills will be voted on first, so it will become clear whether the Third Way, because there are problems there with voting as they should, not with us, will vote for all the bills - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus on TVN24.

08:22

Mastalerek:

Tusk Naively Believed He Could Annihilate PiS; They Won Despite Lowered Expectations

- Donald Tusk is right when he said in April that October 15th repeated itself, but I don't think that's what he meant, because in reality the election results are the same as six months ago, but then PO triumphed, and today, after these 6 months, the results have repeated, and it's a PiS victory. This is because Donald Tusk tried to annihilate PiS, to destroy it, he did everything from day one, and unfortunately his coalition partners agreed to simply get rid of PiS. He naively believed this could happen, and with those lowered expectations, PiS won - stated Marcin Mastalerek on Radio Zet.

08:25

Mastalerek:

In his naivety, Hołownia preferred to help Trzaskowski become a candidate for President of Poland

- Rafał Trzaskowski exploited Szymon Hołownia here, his naivety, and the fact that he has no experience in elections, because if I were to advise Szymon Hołownia, I would tell him: field the strongest possible candidate in the Warsaw mayoral election, Trzaskowski will get below 45%, he'll be finished in the presidential election. But in his naivety, Hołownia preferred to help Trzaskowski become a candidate for President of Poland - stated Marcin Mastalerek on Radio Zet.

08:30

Scheuring-Wielgus on the Civil Partnerships Bill: Kotula Wants it to be a Government Project. She Told Me It's Generally Ready, but There's a Problem with the PSL.
- It seems to me that Katarzyna Kotula wants this [civil partnerships] bill not to be a parliamentary initiative, but a government one. I spoke with her about this yesterday and she told me that the bill is generally ready, but there is, of course, a problem with the PSL and it needs to be sorted out. It's about nuances related to the law; we know that the PSL does not accept certain things - Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus said on TVN24. - It is also symbolically important that it be a government project; I'm keeping my fingers very tightly crossed for this. She told me that it will enter a government session any moment now, that there will be inter-ministerial consultations, and that it will be introduced any moment now - she continued.

08:34

Kierwiński:

Hours Separate Us from Registering an Electoral Committee for the EP Elections
- We have closed one election, I think hours separate us from registering an electoral committee [for the European Parliament elections], and then very soon the candidate lists - said Marcin Kierwiński in PR1's "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day).

09:05

Trela:

Campaign Strategy for European Parliament Elections Must Change, As 6.3% in Regional Elections is Unacceptable

- We will go 'all out' regarding strategy, tactics, and action concepts, but these will not be personal attacks, because we are already in the election campaign for the European Parliament. However, the tactics and strategy undoubtedly need to change, because if we get 6.3% in the regional elections, then it's not good, especially since we received 8.6% on October 15th, so a rapid correction is necessary here – stated Tomasz Trela on the program "Graffiti" on Polsat News.

09:05

Trela:

This is Not the Time to Discuss Leadership Changes in the Left. I Can't Imagine Removing Czarzasty to Fulfill Someone's Ambitions

- This is certainly not the moment to discuss [leadership changes], because whoever might consider it now would be destabilizing the party, and this is the party that formed the coalition of October 15th. The main architect and negotiator of the October 15th coalition on behalf of the Left is Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty. I cannot imagine a situation where the architect is removed today simply to fulfill someone's ambitions – said Tomasz Trela on Polsat News.

09:06

Trela:

If Hołownia Links Local Election Results to Coalition Stability, He's Not Doing It Entirely Right
I would tell our fellow MP Sawicki, dear Marek, enough bickering, let's move forward. Since we are to cooperate and are cooperating, and we are only talking about sending these [abortion] bills for further work in committee, let's respect each other's views, let's respect each other's convictions – stated Tomasz Trela on Polsat News. If Marshal Hołownia links the results of the local government elections with the stability and predictability of the governing coalition, then in my opinion he is not doing it entirely right, because equally well, Marshal Hołownia himself could stumble, things could go a bit worse for him. I certainly wouldn't go around saying 'let's renegotiate the coalition agreement' – he added.

09:08

Mastalerek on EP Elections: If the same committees participate, PiS is the natural and obvious favourite to win

- If the same committees participate as in the local government elections, if PO does not join forces with the Left, PSL, and Szymon Hołownia, then PiS is the natural and obvious favourite to win - stated Marcin Mastalerek on Radio Zet.

09:37

Bosak:

Not ruling out Derehajło becoming Marshal of Podlaskie Voivodeship

- It is not out of the question that Stanisław Derehajło will become the Marshal of Podlaskie Voivodeship. He was already on the board of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, so why shouldn't he return. On the other hand, it is interesting that the media showed little interest in what our candidates for councillors had to say, and the moment it turns out that one vote might be missing for a majority, suddenly, for two or three days, the media's attention has been focused precisely on him – stated Krzysztof Bosak in the program "Morning Conversation" on RMF FM.

09:39

Duda:

We remember the Polish officers murdered in Katyn and those who flew on April 10th to pay them homage, losing their lives for the homeland
- Today, once again, we pay homage to them, we pray for their souls, we remember them. This is one of the most difficult, most tragic, but also extremely important moments in our history, as it also underscores what is important to us. For us, historical memory, the memory of the heroes of our homeland, which the Polish officers who died, were murdered by the Soviets in Katyn, undoubtedly were, has been of fundamental significance. That is precisely why all of them, people from different sides of the political scene, who argue and discuss with each other daily, holding different views, all traveled there together, pilgrimaged, flying together on that plane on that tragic day, to pay homage to our heroes, those who were murdered because they fought for a free, independent, sovereign Poland - stated President Andrzej Duda in Krakow. - Today, we remember all of them: both the Polish officers who were murdered by the Soviets in Katyn, and those who on that terrible day, on that terrible Saturday, April 10, 2010, flew to pay them homage and also gave their lives for the homeland, in service to the homeland. Eternal memory, honor, and glory to the heroes – he continued.

09:42

Bosak on Cooperation with PiS in Lublin Region: We Are Not Holding Any Talks with PiS

- We are not holding any talks with PiS

- We are not holding any talks with PiS, neither in the Lublin region nor in Podlasie – stated Krzysztof Bosak in the RMF FM program “Morning Conversation”.

09:47

Bosak:

We Aim to Double Konfederacja's Previous EP Election Results

- We aim to double Konfederacja's results from the previous European Parliament elections. I think this is within our reach. Many people, our European Affairs Director Anna Bryłka, Krystian Kamiński, a former member of the foreign affairs committee, one of the few individuals in the Sejm who reviewed ambassadors before they had negative slip-ups as ambassadorial candidates - stated Krzysztof Bosak during the "Morning Conversation" program on RMF FM.

10:22

Leszczyna:

We've Got It – The In Vitro Fertilization Medical Support Program and In Vitro Infertility Treatment Program

- We have good news. Today we are talking about the in vitro fertilization procedure, another element of the project that I announced to you immediately after taking office as Minister of Health, the 'Conscious, Safe Me' project. Simply put, we've got it. We have a program for medical support of extracorporeal fertilization, we have a program for infertility treatment using the in vitro method, and we have it primarily thanks to the determination and above-standard commitment of Director Korbasińska-Chwedczuk, who managed to coordinate the work of our outstanding experts – stated Izabela Leszczyna at a press conference.

- The goal of our program is equal access to the in vitro method for all couples struggling with infertility (…) today we are talking about something that is very important, necessary for women and men. We are restoring hope today, or rather, we are giving a real chance to all those who want to become parents to have a child. The second goal is oncofertility, which means securing reproductive material for all those individuals who will likely want to have children in the future, but have to undergo difficult, very demanding oncological therapy that would even often deprive them of the chance to have a child. The program will run from June 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028 – she added.

10:40

Hołownia:

We will begin abortion law proceedings tomorrow, Leftist proposals to be read first
- Tomorrow [...] around 12:45 PM, we will commence proceedings on laws related to the right to abortion. I have allocated a considerable amount of time for this, until 7 PM, as we have four proposals. As you are well aware, we will proceed in such a way that both the reading and the vote will take place according to the print number assigned to each project as it arrived. Therefore, first will be the decriminalization bill, which I am stating very colloquially and briefly, from the Left, followed by the second bill from the Left, the rather extensive one. After that, according to the print numbers, will be the proposal from the Third Way, and finally, with the next print number, the proposal from the Civic Coalition – said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference. - They will be read in this manner and voted upon in a block of votes on Friday at 2 PM. On Thursday, we will read them, there will be a debate [...] We are not limiting questions in this debate, so we expect many questions as well; this discussion must resonate, and everyone must feel that they have had their say in it – he continued.

10:49

Hołownia:

If the Sejm Decides Abortion Bills Go to an Extraordinary Committee, the Sejm Will Establish It on Friday
- If, during the proceedings of the abortion bills, there are motions to reject them at first reading, we will vote on them, as I said, on Friday. There will be no vote on Thursday. However, on Friday we will vote on them, if the Sejm, which I sincerely hope for, decides that these projects will be referred to an extraordinary committee established specifically for the purpose of considering these projects, then the Sejm will establish this committee on Friday - said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference. - We have approached the parliamentary clubs yesterday to propose their candidacies for members of such a committee by tomorrow, 6 PM. If such a decision is made by the Sejm during the votes on Friday, then this committee will be established immediately during the votes on Friday. The Sejm Presidium, at my request, decided that this committee will consist of 27 people, 27 members. The parity will be in accordance with the principle of determining parities that we have adopted in the Sejm [...] Law and Justice - 11 members, Civic Coalition - 9, Poland 2050 - Third Way - 2, Polish People's Party - Third Way - 2, The Left - 2, Confederation - 1 MP - he continued.

10:56

Hołownia:

I have the impression that in the legal dimension, the activities of the Smoleńsk Subcommittee are something for which Macierewicz should be held accountable
- I have the impression that in the legal dimension, the activities of Mr. Macierewicz, his commission, this Smoleńsk subcommittee, all this fuss he made, is something for which he should be held accountable. In my opinion, this is embezzlement of public funds, or at least there is a very strong suspicion that this is precisely what happened; it is a suspicion of destroying evidence, of mishandling it - said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

11:06

Hołownia:

Restoring the Rule of Law in Parliament Will Be Symbolic in Many Aspects, as the President Won't Sign These Laws
- Regardless of the emotions that guide us and how much we desire the restoration of the rule of law, let us remember that in many important, constitutional aspects, this restoration of the rule of law here, in parliament, will have a symbolic dimension, because these laws will not be signed by President Andrzej Duda, who is today the main brake on Poland's return to the path it should have been on for 8 years - said Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.

12:25

Rosa:

I'm not sure how votes will be divided in the PSL on Left and KO's abortion bills, but I hope there will be a majority
- I'm not sure how votes will be divided within the Polish People's Party regarding the bills that liberalize abortion law, specifically the bill from the Left and from Civic Coalition, but I do hope that there will be a majority and that the bills, despite likely rejection motions from PiS, will proceed to committee - said Monika Rosa in 'Rozmowa w południe' on RMF24.

12:37

Rosa:

I Hope to Be on the Extraordinary Committee. Internal Discussions Are Underway Today on Who Will Work On It
- I am a co-author of one of these projects [on abortion], ours, from Civic Coalition, so naturally I have expressed my desire to work on the [extraordinary] committee. I hope I will be on it, but regardless of whether it's me or someone else, we know perfectly well what Civic Coalition's views are, what our goal is. Our goal is for a bill that will liberalize abortion law in Poland to emerge from the committee - Monika Rosa told RMF24. - A final decision has not yet been made [on who from Civic Coalition will be on the extraordinary committee], so I don't want to mention these names because something might still change, and these individuals must agree. [...] Today, internal discussions are taking place regarding who will simply work on this committee. [...] It is natural that more people want to work on this topic than we have available spots - she continued.

12:47

Rosa on the Bill Granting Regional Status to the Silesian Language: It Will Be Debated and Voted On at the Next Sejm Session
- The bill has undergone detailed proceedings in committee, legislative amendments have been introduced, amendments extending the time for the ministries of education and internal affairs to create teaching programs and prepare teachers, and by a majority vote of 8 to 2, the bill was passed in committee. At the next Sejm session, from April 23rd to 26th, the bill, along with the committee's report, will be debated again in the Sejm and will be voted on. It will then go to the Senate, where we have an assurance that during one Senate session [...] the bill will pass and then go to the president for signature – Monika Rosa told RMF24 when asked about the bill granting regional status to the Silesian language.

13:31

Kosiniak-Kamysz on Abortion Law: 'We Don't Have Party Discipline. I Will Vote for Our Bill, Abstain on Others'

- We have a tradition in the Polish People's Party (PSL) for almost 30 years that in matters of worldview, each member votes according to their own conscience. I will certainly vote for the bill we have submitted so that it proceeds to further work, and I am voting for the continuation of work on this bill. On other matters, I will abstain from voting, so the decision will belong to each MP individually; we do not have party discipline, and we never have in matters of worldview - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

15:13

Czarzasty:

The Left's Abortion Bills Are Voted on First for a Reason. There's No Trust Within the Coalition on This Matter.

- Firstly, the Left's [abortion] bills are not voted on first by accident. Because there is no trust within this coalition in this regard. I emphasize, in this regard. I state clearly and very firmly - this will not affect the functioning of the coalition. The coalition is not threatened, and please, simply forget about any talk of internal coalition reckonings, that sort of thing - stated Włodzimierz Czarzasty in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

15:17

Prosecutors Investigating Pegasus Issue Summons for 31 Individuals to Testify
Prosecutors investigating the use of the "Pegasus" software have issued summonses for the first 31 individuals to appear at the prosecutor's office. These individuals will be questioned as witnesses – the National Prosecutor's Office announced on social media.

15:36

Sejm Debates No-Confidence Vote Against Kierwiński. Błaszczak: He Dishonored the Police Uniform, He's a Terrible Minister

- He is responsible for the attacks on protesting farmers that took place on March 6th in front of the Sejm in Warsaw. He has dishonored the Polish police uniform and is a bad minister because of it. After these 3 months, it has become clear that he is a terrible minister - stated Mariusz Błaszczak in the Sejm.

15:48

Błaszczak:

'Russian Booth' Tactics Are Back on Warsaw Streets
- Let's return to the methods used during the Civic Platform government, especially before 2015, which, as it appears, have made a comeback. I've already spoken about those gentlemen who have also reappeared, returning from retirement, and the 'Russian booth' tactics are once again on the streets of Warsaw. I would also like to remind you that before 2015, these same methods were used against protesting miners in Jastrzębie-Zdrój and against football fans - said Mariusz Błaszczak during a Sejm session.

16:36

Konwiński:

We Stand United Behind the Polish Uniform, You Stand United Behind Wąsik and Kamiński
We stand united behind the Polish uniform, and you stand united behind Wąsik and Kamiński, that is the difference between us. Today's debate is an excellent opportunity to summarize the achievements of the PiS governments in the police force, and believe me, there is plenty to talk about. The no-confidence vote against Minister Kierwiński is itself an act of cynical revenge by a group of people who cannot understand that the law is equal for everyone. The same law for a citizen, a minister, a politician, and a PiS member, the same law. This is an act of revenge for the detention of former MPs Wąsik and Kamiński in the presidential chancellery building – stated Zbigniew Konwiński in the Sejm.

16:40

Kierwiński:

The Era of Impunity Has Ended, the Era of Using Police to Protect Kaczyński and His Private Parties is Over
- For four months, the fundamental words have regained their proper meaning in Poland. "Law" means law, "justice" means justice. I know that this part of the room might have a problem with that. The era of impunity has ended, the era of using the police to protect Mr. MP Kaczyński and his private parties is over. The era when various obscenities from this side of the political scene went unaddressed has ended. The era when state services did not prosecute PiS politicians solely because they had PiS identification badges has ended - said Marcin Kierwiński during a Sejm session.

16:43

Kierwiński:

The Days of Hundreds of Police Officers Stationed at Kaczyński's Villa Are Over. The Police Will Not Serve as His Private Security Agency
- I know you don't like this, but the days of police helicopters flying to your friends' parties are over. They are over, it won't happen anymore. The days of police officers cutting confetti so a certain insecure deputy minister can feel better are over. This will not return - said Marcin Kierwiński in the Sejm. - The days of hundreds of police officers standing outside Nowogrodzka are over. The days of hundreds of police officers standing outside MP Kaczyński's villa are over. This will not return. The police will not work as a security agency for Kaczyński and you, PiS politicians - he continued.

16:49

Kierwiński:

You Dare Say You Stand United Behind the Polish Uniform? You're Throwing Cobblestones at the Polish Uniform
- The police protect citizens. The police also responded to calls from citizens who live here, on Wiejska street. This matter was assessed, ladies and gentlemen, 26 people were detained, 15 of those individuals admitted guilt for attacking police officers - said Marcin Kierwiński during a Sejm session. - You dare say that you stand united behind the Polish uniform? You're throwing cobblestones at the Polish uniform. But from Błaszczak, nothing else can be expected, because in a slightly different ministry, not the Ministry of Interior and Administration, it was indeed this Błaszczak [...] who claims how he stands behind the Polish uniform, but as soon as it turned out that a missile flew across half of Poland, he said: it's not my fault, it's all the generals' fault. And what turned out to be true? That for two weeks he didn't find time to read a note because he was busy dressing up in military outfits, not taking care of Polish security - he continued.

16:50

Kierwiński to Błaszczak: Democracy has returned, and the rule of law has returned, and you will have to live with it

- I have two pieces of news for him, both bad. Democracy has returned, and the rule of law has returned, and Mr. Błaszczak will have to live with that - stated Marcin Kierwiński in the Sejm.

16:54

Tusk:

I Understand Why PiS is Filing a No-Confidence Motion Against Kierwiński. No Thieves Have Ever Wanted an Effective and Efficient Police Force

- I fully understand why, this time again, PiS is filing a motion of no confidence against Marcin Kierwiński. Because as long as the world exists, no thieves have ever wanted an effective and efficient police force – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

16:54

Tusk:

Kierwiński, Honest to a Fault, Brave, and Exceptionally Capable, Will Continue His Mission

- I have very bad news for PiS today, good news for criminals, and good news for Poland. Marcin Kierwiński, honest to a fault, brave, and exceptionally capable, will continue his mission – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the Sejm.

17:04

Sejm Rejects PiS's Motion to Dismiss Kierwiński

188 MPs supported the Law and Justice (PiS) motion to express a vote of no confidence in the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński. 240 MPs voted against it, and no one abstained.

17:35

Tusk:

Macierewicz's Responsibility Should Be Not Only Political and Moral, But Also Criminal

- I heard something unprecedented today, that Mr. Macierewicz, on another anniversary of the Smolensk tragedy, is once again putting on his hideous spectacle on stage. It's interesting that Macierewicz decided to accuse me of an assassination attempt on these days and hours when prosecutors who worked with PiS, under the control and authority of Mr. Ziobro and Macierewicz, have apparently found their tongues in recent days and publicly confirmed what we have known for a long time: what this humbug, this dramatic display of Macierewicz's arrogance and cynicism, was all about, and how completely baseless all his accusations were - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in the Sejm.

- Mr. Macierewicz's responsibility for the division in Poland, for the Smolensk tragedy, because it wasn't just the death of people there in Smolensk, it was then followed by 8 years of torment in Poland, suffering because people like Macierewicz used it to ignite a political civil war from time to time - the head of government continued.

- It seems to me that Mr. Macierewicz's responsibility, and that this moment is approaching, should be not only political, not only moral, but also criminal, because the actions he has committed bear the hallmarks of very serious offenses against Polish law - he added.

17:36

Tusk:

The Consequence of the October 15th Elections and 100 Days of Governance is a Truly Stable Parliamentary Situation
- On the side of those who wanted to dismiss Minister Marcin Kierwiński, there were 188 votes. It is clearly visible that the consequence of the October 15th elections and these 100-plus days of governance is a truly stable situation in parliament, regardless of the efforts of all those who have tried to destabilize the situation in parliament over these weeks, and to whom Marcin Kierwiński stood up truly bravely and consistently - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in the Sejm.

17:51

Tusk:

For months I've been saying that a good way to win elections is to be together

- I respectfully accept the decision of our partners. For months I've been saying that a good way to win elections is to be together. If we govern together, then we can also run in elections together, but our partners, some want to, others don't, but we never managed to persuade them to go as a single coalition on October 15th. Therefore, I don't want to risk it in any way, and let this variant, I won't call it B, but this variant, in which three blocs go: Lewica, 3D, and KO – we won as October 15th, both in October and a few days ago in the local elections, so I am an optimist. I don't have any 'maximum plan' in mind – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in the Sejm.

Tusk:

Poland Will Not Agree to Relocation Mechanism, Even if Migration Pact Enters into Force
- The migration pact has gained a majority in the [European] Parliament despite the votes of Polish parliamentarians. [...] But also, to be absolutely clear, Poland will not agree to the relocation mechanism one way or another. We will see what the final version of this pact will be; I have certain possibilities and abilities to build certain alliances, and with absolute certainty, the relocation mechanism or paying for not accepting [immigrants] will not concern Poland - Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a press conference. - I do not rule out that after the European Parliament elections, the political structure of the Parliament will also change somewhat, and we will return, one way or another, to this topic. [...] We will find [...] ways so that even if this pact enters into force in more or less the form in which it was voted on today in Parliament, we will protect Poland from the relocation mechanism - he continued.

Tusk Announces Government Reshuffle: "I Will Conduct a Very Thorough Assessment of Who Performed Well"
- Government reshuffling is not a topic for jokes and anecdotes. I mentioned it because it's quite obvious, as I assume, and I'm speaking with my ladies and gentlemen ministers, that some will, by their own decision or their party's, run in the European Parliament elections. And this is one reason why this reshuffle will be understandable and obvious - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in the Sejm. - I will also conduct a very thorough assessment in June of who performed well and who did not. And I do not rule out that, in addition to those necessitated by the EP elections, this reshuffle will be deeper - he continued. - I would also very much like, using this moment, to reduce the number of so-called 'erkis', deputy ministers. I already have some ideas here, but we will discuss this in June when I am ready with the entire personnel map - he added.

Tusk:

Government bill on civil partnerships is ready, but I can't submit it without certainty of coalition party support
- In a sense, what I commissioned from Minister Kotula is ready, the government bill is ready. But I cannot submit a government bill if I am not sure that the parties forming the government support it. The government consists, whether we like it or not, of four parties which have differences of opinion and slightly different sensibilities on precisely these matters: abortion and civil partnerships - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in the Sejm. - Next week we will decide, in fact we are almost decided, to submit this and possibly other bills not as a government, but as parliamentary clubs, and to quickly start work. I will not force anyone in the government, from the coalition parties, to support this bill - he added.

19:05

Morawiecki:

The Current Governing Coalition Sent People to Brussels Who Voted for the Migration Pact. Shame on You.
- The current governing coalition sent people to Brussels who today voted for the migration pact. Shame on you. You are harming Poland and Poles - wrote Mateusz Morawiecki on social media.

Gajewska:

I spoke with Hołownia about the "Babciowe" program. He told me that after reviewing the details, he no longer has doubts.

- No, that is not true [what Marlena Maląg wrote about the liquidation of the Family Care Capital]. I responded to that post on the same portal where it was published. The Family Care Capital applied from the second child, our “Active at Home” benefit within the “Babciowe” program will apply from the first child, so large families who decide to organize childcare themselves will exclusively benefit from our program - stated Aleksandra Gajewska in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Polsat News's “Gość Wydarzeń”.

- I listened to the Marshal’s [Hołownia’s] statement, it surprised me greatly. It does not reflect the solutions we are proposing. However, I spoke with the Marshal personally today, I asked him about these doubts. He told me that after reviewing the details of this program, he no longer has such doubts. He still has some questions regarding the details of the solutions. I declared my willingness to clarify, explain, and answer all questions; if necessary, I can also come to a parliamentary club meeting - she continued.

Trzaskowski:

PiS's Electorate is Much More Mobilized; Ours, Without Strong Emotions, Leads to Lower Turnout
- I think that on October 15th, young people flocked to the polling stations because they felt, they knew that their fundamental rights were threatened. However, when it comes to local government issues, apparently there wasn't the same feeling. I deeply regret this because we have been working for many years, for example, through Campus Polska Przyszłości, to appeal to the younger generation [...]. There isn't that sense that these elections are so important in an existential sense, I'm speaking among the younger generation - said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" on TVN24. - The Law and Justice electorate is much more mobilized, and ours, when it doesn't feel those strong emotions, unfortunately, then the turnout is lower - he continued.

20:31

Trzaskowski on Warsaw Mayoral Elections: "In No Serious Poll Has The Left Ever Held Second Place"
"Without taking anything away from Madam Marshal [Biejat], polls were conducted from the very beginning that were not precise enough, let's be frank, we had completely different ones. In no serious poll has The Left ever held second place, never. I have always said that PiS is underestimated, that one must be careful, it cannot be written off as a loss" - said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24.

20:38

Trzaskowski:

Kaczyński Stated It's Beneficial for Him to Manipulate and Lie About Smolensk
- This is very sad in general, because I remember what Jarosław Kaczyński said at the beginning [after the Smolensk catastrophe], when he was in such a difficult life situation that he deserved respect for what he was going through. Then he was very calm, then he seemed to shy away from such words, and then he simply stated that it cynically pays him to manipulate and lie, he switched the lever and has simply been lying all along since then. Besides, it's something psychological, it's unacceptable for him that his brother could have simply died in a catastrophe - said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24.

20:39

Giertych:

I Filed a Motion to Interrogate Kaczynski with a Polygraph Regarding His Last Conversation with His Brother
- On behalf of the family of the BOR (Government Protection Bureau) officer, I have filed such a motion [to the prosecutor's office for the interrogation of Jarosław Kaczyński using a polygraph]. I think it's time for Mr. Jarosław Kaczyński to decide on perhaps the final act of the Smolensk investigation, and I am appealing to him because it depends on his decision. The prosecutor's office can request consent from the witness to be interrogated using a so-called polygraph - said Roman Giertych in an interview with Dorota Wysocka-Schnepf on TVP Info's "Pytanie dnia" (Question of the Day). - His pain is not more important than the pain of my clients. I have been representing the families of the victims of this catastrophe for 14 years, and we have filed this motion perhaps three times. Each time, the prosecutor's office refused - he continued. - I would like Jarosław Kaczyński to answer the question about the subject of his last conversation with Lech Kaczyński. Because we have no other means of evidence [...] no one was a witness to Jarosław Kaczyński's conversation; he was not present for it in Poland - he stated. - I do not suspect Jarosław Kaczyński of anything in this specific matter. It simply seems to me that the victims' families have the right to utilize all possible forms of reaching the truth about what happened - he added.

20:43

Trzaskowski:

"Nobody knows PiS MEPs in Brussels; no one in the EP knows who they are because they shout here but do nothing there."
- To effectively defend Poland's interests, one must be in large factions [in the EP] that have something to offer. And there, one can block bad solutions for Poland. All the PiS MEPs, or those from Solidarna Polska, nobody knows them in Brussels, nobody knows who they are in the European Parliament, because they shout here but do nothing there, it's simply a wasted vote - said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24.

20:47

Trzaskowski on potential joint KO and TD bid for European Parliament: Perhaps not all paths to agreement are closed yet
- Our offer has always been on the table, each time an attempt to reach an agreement. However, if we hear from our colleagues in Trzecia Droga that they still want to go together because this is how they are solidifying their project, I understand that. I do not intend to criticize it. [...] We will see, perhaps not all paths to agreement are closed yet - said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24.

20:56

Trzaskowski on Duda: This is the last moment for him to come to his senses
- This is the last moment for the President to come to his senses and actually consider that there are some things he agrees with, and some things he disagrees with. So, if it's going to look like he's blocking everything because that's what was dictated from Nowogrodzka regarding two individuals who broke the law [...] then this is something unbelievable - said Rafał Trzaskowski on TVN24. - There must be pressure on President Andrzej Duda, he has the last 1.5 years of his term, maybe he will understand that if he wants to be remembered in history in any way with a positive note at the end, if he thinks about his future in politics, he cannot be on Jarosław Kaczyński's party leash all the time. That it simply doesn't pay off for him. After all, Jarosław Kaczyński will sooner or later disappear from the Polish political scene, and Andrzej Duda will only have a chance to find his place in this new right-wing camp as someone independent, if he shows a shred of independence - he continued.

21:02

Giertych on the Pegasus Affair: Today I Received a Summons from the Prosecutor's Office as a Witness
- Today I received a summons for May 16th, as a witness in this [Pegasus] case. I am not surprised, because my phone was previously examined by experts from Toronto, which is why I already had this knowledge beforehand - said Roman Giertych in "Pytanie dnia" on TVP Info.

21:18

Kaczyński:

No Divisions Among Polish Patriots. We Must March Together in a Great Procession

- There can be no divisions here, no divisions among Polish patriots; various specific or personal issues must not divide us. We must march together in a great procession, which will be, on the one hand, a literal march in the full sense of the word on May 10th, but which is and should also be a march in a more figurative sense, our constant striving to ensure that what is happening in Poland today is merely a fatal incident, an incident that will never be repeated. That we may return to the path once shown to us by Lech Kaczyński and follow it until we can say: yes, there is a strong Polish state, a strong Polish nation – stated Jarosław Kaczyński during the April 10th commemorations.

21:22

Kaczyński:

Macierewicz Commission Presented Evidence. It Was Putin's Assassination

- The [Macierewicz commission] presented evidence [of the Smolensk assassination]. It presented evidence. It was an assassination, we must know this and we must have the courage to talk about it. Because very many people in Poland know this perfectly well, and some, by no means insignificant, knew it from the very beginning, but either their interests or a lack of determination and courage prevented them from talking about it - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during the April 10 commemorations.

- It was an assassination, it was Putin's assassination, and as for the involvement of others, perhaps that is still to come, for us to know it completely - he continued.

21:35

Kaczyński:

Implementing Lech Kaczyński's will means opposing what is happening in our country today and what the December 13 coalition is doing

- The authorities of December 13, the December 13 coalition, are consistently rejecting this policy [of Lech Kaczyński] in virtually all its aspects, and we must be aware of this. We must know that our goal, a goal that will also be the implementation of the will of Lech Kaczyński and all those who worked with him, who supported him, his wife, all friends and collaborators, is to oppose what is happening in our country today. What is happening both in the sphere related to law, law which today is completely trampled, rejected in Poland, that in fact it no longer applies and the constitution practically no longer applies in Poland, but also in an enormously important economic and social sphere. In the economic sphere, everything that hinders Germany is rejected – stated Jarosław Kaczyński during the commemorations of the Smolensk catastrophe in Warsaw.
