President Duda on the "Despite Everything Duda" Meeting: I Couldn't Stomach Voting for Kwaśniewski in 1995, So I Voted for Wałęsa, Based on the Principle of "Despite Everything, Wałęsa"
It's no secret to anyone, I've spoken about it several times already, although I suspect some will be taken aback in different directions, when I say this, in 1995 I went to the presidential election, and there were two options to choose from in the second round. Lech Wałęsa was an option, and Aleksander Kwaśniewski was an option - said President Andrzej Duda in a conversation with internet creator Karol Paciorek.
- For me, he was a member of the repressive apparatus [Kwaśniewski], although perhaps some will disagree, but for me the communist party and everything connected with it was the repressive apparatus. The people in power then were, in general terms, the repressive apparatus for me, that's how I approached it then. So I couldn't come to terms with the idea that I could vote for him at all in 1995, and I went to vote for Lech Wałęsa based on the principle: well, despite everything, Wałęsa. Despite everything. Even though I had grievances against him on various matters, I believed that if I saw values that were important to me somewhere, I definitely saw them more in Lech Wałęsa than in Aleksander Kwaśniewski - the president continued.
