Kidawa-Błońska:
The Constitution's Guarantees of Free and Safe Elections Must Be Respected, Rejecting Pseudo-Methods
- May 3rd is a special day in our history. On this day, we celebrate and commemorate the creators of the May 3rd Constitution, but let us also remember all those who wanted Poland to be a better, fairer, and more modern country. Throughout the centuries, people have desired Poland to be an exceptional nation, Poles have wanted their rights to be protected. And the Constitution exists so that we, the citizens, feel safe, so that we, the citizens, by jointly adopting the Constitution, know that it is the foundation of our social life, our safeguard, ensuring that no authority attempts to take away our rights. And today, the provisions of the Constitution that state we have the right to free elections are so important. To safe, secret, universal elections. Therefore, I say very loudly once again: the elections in May using the envelope method, a pseudo-method, cannot take place. We, as citizens, must have the courage to say this loudly to those in power: you are not allowed to take away our rights. We are free people, we have a Constitution, and we demand that our Constitution be respected. We want free, democratic elections, we want the authorities to think about our safety and our health and not create spectacles during elections - stated Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska at a press briefing in Warsaw.

Kosiniak-Kamysz:
As President, I Will Uphold and Oversee the Constitution. This Seems Obvious, But After Andrzej Duda's Last 5 Years, It's Not.
- We are proud of it [the Constitution], proud of our tradition and history. Patriotism, history – these are things that should unite us, not divide us, because we all have a right to them. As President, I will stand guard over the observance of the Constitution, I will oversee the observance of the Constitution. This seems obvious, but after the last 5 years of Andrzej Duda's presidency, it is not. Therefore, in my commitments, I emphasize with all my might: I will oversee the observance of the Constitution and I myself will abide by the Constitution – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing in Warsaw.

Kosiniak-Kamysz:
As President, I Will Deliver an Annual State of the Nation Address Around May 3rd
- I am determined to restore order and constitutional order, the separation of powers, adherence to the law, but also to repair Poland, because Poland requires renewal, repair, and moving forward. I also want to propose solutions that will change our reality for the better. The current Constitution also requires changes, and this is what we are talking about in our program, the program of the Polish Coalition, I am talking about this as a presidential candidate. However, some things that will lead to the renewal of Poland can be implemented without amending the Constitution, and I would like to declare this as my first point. As President, I will deliver an annual state of the nation address around May 3rd, our national holiday. Its purpose will be to present the truth about public finances, state management, the country's situation, the situation of local governments (JST), the state budget, and the situation of citizens. I will do this regardless of who is in government. Because I will present this information reliably to the public. Today, we do not have reliable information; we do not know the state of public finances. We are often misled by government propaganda about a country flowing with milk and honey. But the truth, especially in the face of coronavirus, seems to be different - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing in Warsaw.

The Senate Should Be Transformed into a Chamber of Self-Government

Kosiniak-Kamysz:
The Most Important Thing I'm Running On in These Elections, and Why I'm in Politics – Restoring Peace, Social Order, and Brotherhood
- For me, the most important thing I am running on in these elections, and why I am in politics – not just for this campaign, like some others, but for almost 20 years – is the restoration of peace, social order, and the restoration of brotherhood. The community of Poles. The Polish Republic has fallen throughout history when it was torn and internally divided. A torn, divided, feuding Republic, with neighbor feuding with neighbor, Pole with Pole, acting against each other, is the path to the downfall of the Polish Republic. It is a path to ruin, a dangerous track from which we must turn back and set Poland on safe tracks, on the tracks of justice and decency, on the path that leads to national accord, national reconciliation, and social cooperation. And this is possible in diversity. If everyone has a dignified place, then it is possible in diversity – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press briefing in Warsaw.

Hołownia:
We are on the threshold of a week that will reveal whether Poland remains a democracy or takes a big step towards dictatorship, a satrapy.
„The Constitution of May 3rd is an excellent opportunity for us Poles to remember how great we are, how truly wonderful we can be. I know we're drawn to celebrating and dwelling on our defeats. We're great at that, but the Constitution of May 3rd is truly a wonderful achievement. It's a document that led us from the land of infighting and liberum veto into a completely new political reality, a new way of thinking about the world” - said presidential candidate Szymon Hołownia at a press conference.
„We are on the threshold of a week that will reveal whether Poland remains a democratic country, or takes a big step towards dictatorship, a satrapy, and once again we manage to betray all that we have worked towards over the years, instead of heroically defending it, because we have already achieved this success” - he added.

Hołownia Publishes Citizen’s Address:
Fighting for democracy is our first step, but our plan reaches further. Our actions are oriented towards goals that transcend terms and serve generations.
“Six months ago, I was alone, powerless, and furious. I started acting because I couldn't stand watching PiS demolish our country while opposition parties were preoccupied with themselves and unable to resist it. Today, I feel hope because over these past six months, I've made a great discovery – that there are many of us. Many people who want to act and build a new Poland. We want a democratic Poland, where politicians serve people, not exploit them. A Green Poland, where we collectively save the natural environment, understanding its necessity for our lives. A Solidarity Poland, which ensures everyone access to healthcare, children access to 21st-century public schools, and seniors the care they need. We are already over 7,000. Volunteers, professionals, experts. There are donors, 55,000 people who have given us over 4 million zlotys. They gave their private money, and in such difficult times. Why? Because they want to contribute to a common plan, to building a new and better Poland. That’s why it’s no coincidence we are telling you about our actions today, on the holiday of the Republic, on the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of May 3rd. After 1980 and 1989, the year 2020 has arrived, and we, Poles, must once again ask ourselves questions about our freedoms. The time has come to unite again in the face of threat. Fighting for democracy is our first step, but our plan reaches further. Our actions are oriented towards goals that transcend terms, that serve generations. They are not intended for one political sect, but for the entire society. Jacek Kuroń said: ‘Don’t burn committees, start your own.’ And that’s exactly what we are doing. We invite you, come with us,” say the participants of the citizen’s address, which Szymon Hołownia published on social media.

Budka:
We're hearing that an attempt may be made soon to use the Constitutional Tribunal to legitimize unconstitutional May elections
- We are hearing that an attempt may be made in the near future to use the Constitutional Tribunal to legitimize unconstitutional elections in May of this year. I want to state clearly from this spot that the only way for the presidential elections to take place in accordance with the Constitution, within a safe timeframe and to be safe, is to introduce a state of natural disaster. And Marshal Kidawa-Błońska was the first to speak about this, and we in the entire opposition speak with one voice on this matter - stated Borys Budka at a press briefing in Katowice.
16:08
- I warn Jarosław Kaczyński against attempting to use legal loopholes and the Constitutional Tribunal to legalize things that are illegal. I call on Mateusz Morawiecki to introduce a state of natural disaster, so that we can jointly, in a spirit of agreement, establish a safe date for the presidential elections, allowing voters to freely cast their ballot for their chosen candidate and ensuring we remember those who will be deprived of their voting rights abroad. I appeal for this and believe that this agreement is possible, and I trust that on May 7th, the parliamentary majority will reject the unconstitutional postal voting – stated Borys Budka at a press briefing in Katowice.
20:45
The upcoming week in politics is primarily about the Senate's work on the postal voting bill and, more importantly, the Sejm's decision on the matter. In practice, within the next few days, we will learn how the presidential election will be conducted and when it will take place.
This week also marks another stage of economic reopening, a presidential debate organized by TVP, the General Assembly of Supreme Court judges to select candidates for the First President of the Supreme Court, and the presentation of a new initiative by Civic Platform (PO) regarding the economic crisis.
Furthermore, according to 300POLITYKA's sources, President Duda is expected to sign an agreement with "Solidarność" this week, Szymon Hołownia will unveil an electoral mural in central Warsaw, and Krzysztof Bosak will present an economic plan.

Another Stage of Economic Reopening. The second announced stage of lifting coronavirus-related restrictions in Poland begins on Monday. After the May long weekend, shopping centers will reopen, DIY stores will be open on weekends, and hotels will resume operations. Sick individuals will return to rehabilitation, and libraries and cultural institutions will be gradually opened after consultations with sanitary services. Additionally, changes will be introduced to the functioning of kindergartens and nurseries.
PO's New Initiative on the Economic Crisis. According to 300POLITYKA's interlocutors, an important press conference by Borys Budka will be held on Monday, during which the Civic Platform leader will present a new proposal regarding the economic crisis. Furthermore, we hear that on Monday at 9:00 AM, PO parliamentarians are scheduled to visit the Polish Security Printing Works.
Hołownia's Mural, Bosak's Economic Plan, WKK on PAD's Promises. On Monday at 12:00 PM, presidential candidate Szymon Hołownia will unveil an electoral mural in central Warsaw. His campaign staff emphasizes in a conversation with 300POLITYKA that this is the first mural in the history of election campaigns in Poland. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz's campaign staff, in turn, announces that they will continue to challenge Andrzej Duda over unfulfilled promises. The PSL candidate is also expected to receive support from "several interesting individuals."
PAD Signs New Agreement with Solidarność. We unofficially hear that President Andrzej Duda is expected to sign a new agreement with "Solidarność" on Tuesday. A similar agreement was signed by the then-PiS presidential candidate in 2015 – this move was then interpreted as one of the drivers of his victory. Additionally, on Monday, the Day of the State Fire Service, general nominations will take place, and there is also a plan for the head of state to visit Biebrza National Park.
Senate on Postal Voting. The Senate's two-day session will commence on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. The agenda includes only two points, one of which is the bill on special rules for conducting general presidential elections called in 2020, i.e., the so-called postal voting bill. The decision on this matter, as can be assumed, will be made on the second day of deliberations, on Wednesday. Earlier, on Monday at 11:00 AM, Senate committees are scheduled to continue their work on the bill.
Sejm on Another Government Bill. MPs will resume deliberations on Tuesday at 3:00 PM – a first reading of the government's draft bill on subsidies for interest rates on bank loans granted to ensure financial liquidity for entrepreneurs affected by the effects of COVID-19 is planned. According to the schedule, the Sejm is to adopt the proposal in a single session – the second reading is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:00 AM.
TVP Debate. On Wednesday at 8:30 PM, an pre-election debate of presidential candidates will be held on TVP1. It will be hosted by Michał Adamczyk, and the discussion will last a total of 60 minutes.
EU Summit plus Western Balkans. On Wednesday at 4:30 PM, another European Council summit will take place – in the form of a videoconference – with the Western Balkan countries.
Sejm on Postal Voting. A voting block, during which the Sejm is to consider the Senate's amendments to the postal voting bill, or a motion to reject the bill in its entirety, is scheduled for Wednesday between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. However, if the Senate has not taken a position by then, another block will take place on Thursday at 10:00 AM.
General Assembly of Supreme Court Judges. "I will convene the General Assembly of Supreme Court judges on May 8th to select candidates for the new First President of this court," announced Judge Kamil Zaradkiewicz on Polsat News. "This assembly is foreseen under general, ordinary rules. While ensuring all necessary precautions, of course," emphasized the acting First President of the Supreme Court.
Possible Presidential Election. In theory, the first round of the presidential election should take place on Sunday. However, this is not certain, as the aforementioned postal voting bill allows for a change in the election date – to fit within constitutional deadlines, i.e., by May 23rd – and in recent days, information has emerged that PiS wants to move the vote to May 17th or indeed May 23rd. Although the latter date falls on a Saturday, the ruling party has changed the law so that elections can be held on a day other than Sunday.
