Political Tuesday Agenda: Government Meeting, Sasin on Corporate Governance, Biedroń's Committee Registration, and EP Debate on Poland

The government meeting will commence at 10:00. Among other matters, ministers will address the amendment to the act on the emergency notification system.

At 11:00, Robert Biedroń's campaign team will hold a press conference before registering their committee with the National Electoral Commission (PKW).

At 14:00, Members of Parliament from the Sejm Committee on Special Services will consider and opine on the motion of no confidence filed by Civic Platform-Civic Coalition (PO-KO) against the Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, Mariusz Kamiński.

Also at 14:00, during a joint session of two Sejm committees: Justice and Human Rights, and Legislative, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal (TK), Julia Przyłębska, is scheduled to present information on significant issues arising from the activities and jurisprudence of the Constitutional Tribunal in 2018. However, information from the TK suggests that Przyłębska will not appear in the Sejm.

At 14:30, politicians from the parliamentary group for LGBT will hold a press conference in the Sejm. The topic is expected to be further anti-LGBT resolutions.

Also today, the European Parliament will host a debate titled “The Current Threat to the Rule of Law in Poland,” which is set to be attended by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Vera Jourová. According to the agenda, the debate block begins at 15:00 and will last until 23:00.

Today will also feature a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets, Jacek Sasin, with experts in law and economics concerning ownership supervision and corporate governance.

Śmiszek on Kempa's Words: I Was a Little Upset, But Not Offended, Because Kempa Cannot Offend Me With Views Belonging to the 19th Century, Not the 21st
Offended, probably not, I was a little upset [by Beata Kempa's words]. I won't hide it. I knew that entering politics means being prepared for various jabs or comments from political opponents, but I don't feel offended because Kempa cannot offend me with views that are not from 2020, but rather from the 19th century - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". - She didn't call [with an apology], and in fact, she probably announced she wouldn't. No, I don't expect anything from Kempa, especially any personal contact. Beata Kempa testifies for herself - he continued.

08:02

Śmiszek:

Kempa is perhaps an envoy of the Polish open-air museum in the EP. Yes, her words are homophobia

- I encourage Beata Kempa, since she is already in Brussels, not only to walk the corridors of the European Parliament but to go out onto the streets. There she will meet Belgians who have had a prime minister for many, many years, and previously also had a prime minister who was homosexual. Nearby is Luxembourg, a country where the prime minister is a homosexual person who has a partner. In these countries, for many years, there have been registered partnerships and same-sex marriages, and society treats such matters as completely normal. Therefore, it seems to me that Beata Kempa is perhaps an envoy of the Polish open-air museum in the EP, unfortunately. Yes, these are [Kempa's] words of homophobia - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

Sobolewski on Protesters in Puck Against PAD: I Expect Kidawa-Błońska to Apologize. After Everything, She Hugged Them. It Was a Traveling KOD Troupe.
- I don’t so much expect the Marshal Kidawa-Błońska to speak, as to apologize. After this situation, after all that, the Marshal went to those people, hugged them, and now the question arises whether this is hypocrisy from the candidate and the candidate’s campaign staff, or if these people were brought there by that staff. I want to emphasize that these were not people from Puck or Wejherowo. It was a traveling KOD troupe that had previously disrupted various ceremonies in Warsaw - said Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

08:07

Sobolewski on Judicial Reform: We Will Convince Prime Minister Gowin to Dispel Doubts

- We will convince Mr. Prime Minister Gowin to dispel these doubts. We will manage - said Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

08:11

Sobolewski on Kempa's Statement Regarding Śmiszek: 'I Wouldn't Use Such Words.' However, Everyone Has the Right to Express Different Opinions

- I wouldn't use such words - said Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

- And what words would you use? Will you talk to Beata Kempa or not? - the journalist pressed.

- We will certainly talk. However, everyone has the right to express different opinions - Sobolewski replied.

08:16

Śmiszek:

Biedroń Knows Where Poland's Heart Beats. It Beats in Small and Medium-Sized Cities. He Was a Mayor of Such a Town and Knows How to Solve and Respond to the Needs of Its Residents
The campaign started a few days ago, as far as I recall. From what I see, [Robert Biedroń] is mainly in third place. I don't see others having wind in their sails, and Robert Biedroń experiencing any stumbles or a slowdown in this campaign. I'm not thinking about what was, I'm thinking about how best to lead this campaign. The three parties that created a strong left-wing bloc in parliament, whose ratings are systematically rising, decided that Robert Biedroń would be a good candidate, and it's a good choice. Biedroń doesn't just shine in the salons of big cities; the day before yesterday in Nowa Ruda, he defended a closing hospital. He travels to smaller towns - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". - Robert Biedroń knows where Poland's heart beats. This heart of Poland beats in small and medium-sized cities. Why? Because he was the mayor of such a town and knows how to solve and respond to the needs of the residents of these types of cities - the Left politician continued.

08:20

Śmiszek:

I Promise Biedroń Will Be Kwaśniewski 2.0

- I promise that Robert Biedroń will be Kwaśniewski 2.0. In 1995, Aleksander Kwaśniewski also had 8, 9% and everyone was clutching their heads: what, a post-communist against a world legend? A good campaign, good debates, a good program, contact with voters caused... 8-10% [Kwaśniewski had], just like Robert Biedroń - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:21

Śmiszek on Biedroń's Chances: Second Round is Absolutely Within Reach

- Robert Biedroń has excellent contact with voters. He finds himself, feels like a fish in water, when interacting with voters, and this result will be really very good, and the second round is absolutely within reach - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Conversation".

08:26

Śmiszek on The Left: The Unification Congress Will Likely Be in June or July

- We are merging [Wiosna with SLD]. The unification congress will likely be in June or July. I am a Spring patriot, I co-founded Wiosna, but in 3.5 years we have elections, and I want to win those elections so that The Left governs or co-governs in a new government. It's not time to look back at this or that banner. The SLD also changed its name after several decades to merge with Wiosna. More important are the matters on the horizon, taking power, removing PiS from governing, than dwelling on some sentiments concerning this or that banner - stated Krzysztof Śmiszek in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:46

Sasin:

Today We Will Appoint a Special Council of Legal and Economic Authorities to Develop Changes in Law Strengthening Ownership Supervision

Today, we will appoint a special council composed of legal and economic authorities, which will develop changes in law that would strengthen ownership supervision. An owner has the right to know what is happening with their property. Today, in many areas, this supervision is illusory. The aim is for owners, not just public ones, to have the feeling that they have a real influence on what happens to their assets” – said Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin on Radio Jedynka.

09:00

Sasin on Presidential Campaign: It Will Determine if PiS Can Implement its Program and Goals for This Term. It's Very Difficult to Imagine Effective Governance with Cohabitation

"We are starting this campaign. The campaign is already underway. An important campaign, because in reality, it will determine whether we, as PiS, will be able to implement our program and goals for this term. It's very difficult to imagine effective governance in a situation where cohabitation would occur, where we would cooperate with a president who does not share our view on the direction Poland should take, and who would have very powerful tools to block actions taken by the parliamentary majority. We will be raising this point in this campaign," said Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin on Jedynka radio.

09:01

Sasin on Disrupting President Duda's Rallies: The Use of Insulting Words Against the President Particularly Reminds Me of the 'Industry of Contempt' Used Against the Late President Kaczyński

"Our political opponents lack class and are unable to behave with dignity in such solemn occasions [as the centenary of Poland's union with the sea]. The use of insulting words against the president, in particular, strongly reminds me of what I thought was behind us – the 'industry of contempt' that was used against the late President Lech Kaczyński. It's clear our political competitors have learned nothing," said Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin on Jedynka radio.

09:14

Kamiński:

Ziobro's Politics Always Aimed to Push PiS Towards Radicalism, Making Kaczyński's Party a Hostage

If we trace Zbigniew Ziobro’s politics over many years, including in areas I personally witnessed during crises, it always consisted of pushing PiS, both Jarosław Kaczyński and the party leadership, so far to the right, forcing it into such radicalism, that they would become Zbigniew Ziobro’s hostages. Let me recall the crisis concerning the Lisbon Treaty” - said Michał Kamiński, Deputy Speaker of the Senate from PSL-Koalicja Polska, in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on Radio TOK FM’s Poranek.

09:18

Czarzasty on Biedroń's Campaign: We Came to the Conclusion That This Entire Process Needs to Be Based on a Vehicle Called SLD
I kindly inform you that the Left does not have a single MP whose last name is Anonymous. Sir, for two weeks Mr. Biedroń has been traveling around Poland, we have observed how everything looks, how it should be organized - and at a certain point after these two weeks, we all came to the conclusion that if a campaign is based - and that's what we're doing - on small and medium-sized towns, then we need very well-functioning structures. Since the Democratic Left Alliance has structures in 340 districts, therefore together - that is: Robert, Adrian Zandberg, Włodek Czarzasty plus the party leaderships - we came to the conclusion that this entire process needs to be based on a vehicle called: SLD - stated Włodzimierz Czarzasty in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

09:19

Kamiński on Disrupting PAD's Rallies: Where was PAD's campaign team when Komorowski was called 'Komoruski'? I didn't hear Duda's outrage then

"Where was Andrzej Duda's campaign team, where were Andrzej Duda's politicians, when his predecessor, an outstanding Polish patriot, Bronisław Komorowski, a hero of Polish freedom, was called 'Komoruski', suggesting he was not a sovereign Polish president. I didn't hear Andrzej Duda's outrage then," said Senate Deputy Marshal Michał Kamiński of the PSL-Polish Coalition in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on Radio TOK FM's Poranek.

09:30

Czarzasty:

'Our Campaign Plan is for Robert to Visit Four Districts Daily Until the End of March'

- Yes, this is the dynamic campaign we have been waiting for. Our campaign plan is for Robert to travel and visit four districts daily until the end of March. He has been traveling for three weeks... - stated Włodzimierz Czarzasty in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

- Yes, yesterday he flew to Strasbourg because there is an important debate for Poland. It's normal that we wanted him to go there. He returns in two days, we all meet on Saturday in Świdnica. Robert is doing four districts a day, three weeks times seven equals 21. 21 days times four is 84 districts. Therefore, I wish everyone – and I've run many campaigns – to be in 80 districts in three weeks, as Robert has been. There are local media, there is good attendance. This is what we want - continued the leader of the SLD.

09:58

Sawicki:

Citizens Shouldn't Pay for Rulers' Stupidity. Money from the EU Isn't Government Money; It's Ours and It's What Truly Changes Poland

- I am strongly against this mechanism because citizens cannot be held responsible for the rulers' stupidity. Because this money that comes from the EU for agriculture and cohesion policy is not government money. It is our money, the citizens', and this money truly changes Poland – stated Marek Sawicki in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

10:03

Sawicki:

If the President Thinks He'll Only Attend Closed PiS-Organized Meetings with Bused-In Supporters, He's Mistaken
If the President thinks that he will participate exclusively in closed meetings, organized by PiS, where people are brought in by buses, and there are no unfavorable individuals, then he is mistaken. He will have more and more such meetings. He must be prepared for this. However, it is also difficult to be surprised that other politicians are talking with politicians or with people who do not accept the President - stated Marek Sawicki in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

Ministry of State Assets Establishes Commission for Ownership Supervision Reform

We are meeting at an important moment for our ministry. We are actively working in many areas. One of the intentions was to consolidate supervision over state Treasury companies within the ministry, which was previously dispersed across many departments. The second area we identified as important is the area of law that defines the method of ownership supervision over state Treasury companies, but this law concerns all economic entities, not just state Treasury companies” - said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin at a press conference.

We have decided to establish a commission for the reform of ownership supervision, which will review the current law and propose new solutions that are intended to provide good instruments for owners to effectively manage these economic entities” - he added.

15:12

Gasiuk-Pihowicz:

I have the impression that ordering a pizza over the phone would be more difficult for Kaczyński than ordering a specific ruling from the Constitutional Tribunal

Today's report on the activities of the Constitutional Tribunal should be called a report on its dismantling. Ms. Przyłębska, by announcing her absence from the committee meeting today, is in fact running away from an honest assessment of her activities. Perhaps she is aware that her actions are leading to the downfall of the CT, or perhaps it is the arrogance and hubris so characteristic of PiS members. Whatever the motives for her escape, this is perhaps the first such case where a person claiming to be the acting president of the CT does not appear to report on the institution's activities. Today, in our country, there is no Constitutional Tribunal. It is a dead institution since Ms. Przyłębska was appointed president in violation of the law” - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz from Civic Coalition at a press conference in the Sejm.

I have the impression that today it would be much more difficult for Mr. President Kaczyński to order a pizza over the phone than to order a specific ruling from the CT” - she added.

15:18

Leszczyna:

We Want the GetBack Investigative Committee to be Appointed During This Sejm Session

The PiS government is responsible for the GetBack affair. It is the PiS government and the parliamentary majority that should be concerned with clarifying the GetBack affair. PiS must answer the 9,000 bondholders what happened to their money. We want an investigative committee on this matter to be appointed during this Sejm session” – stated Izabela Leszczyna from Civic Coalition at a press conference in the Sejm.

Because PiS is behaving as if it hasn't noticed our motion to appoint an investigative committee at all, as if it hasn't heard any requests from those harmed in this affair for its appointment, we are submitting a motion to the Marshal to include our resolution on appointing an investigative committee regarding GetBack during the Sejm session that begins tomorrow. This is the last moment when we can answer the injured parties' crucial questions” – added Paulina Hennig-Kloska from KO.

Sobolewski Confirms: PAD's Campaign Inauguration on Saturday

The official inauguration of President Andrzej Duda's election campaign will take place this Saturday, February 15th, during a convention at Warsaw's Expo hall - confirmed Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Onet, adding that the convention is intended to have a distinctly American character.

The chairman of PiS's Executive Committee also confirmed that a meeting of the PiS Political Council has been convened for 11:00 AM, which is to formally designate Andrzej Duda as the ruling party's official presidential candidate.

We were the first to report on the planned PiS convention with the president's participation on February 15th, on 300POLITYKA at the beginning of February.

Fogiel:

PiS Headquarters to Establish Special Unit to Rectify False Information

Rzecznik partii Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) poinformował o powołaniu specjalnej komórki w sztabie partii.

17:24

Halicki:

We Appeal for the PiS Government to Withdraw from Confrontation with the EU, Because Poles Want the EU, They Are Europeans, and We Want to Be in the EU on Normal Terms

- In a few hours there will be another debate, but this is not a debate about Poland. Frankly speaking, we are fed up with this situation, which the government is provoking, by violating agreements, also provisions that result from talks and contacts with representatives, by entering into a squabble and conflict with the EU. We must be ashamed again that the government is breaking the law, that it does not even keep its promises, violating these agreements after the Commissioner's visit to Warsaw, President Duda signed a law that evidently not only violates the Constitution, but also treaties and the principle that says that until the dispute is resolved by the Court of Justice of the EU, no further steps should be taken. The PiS government and President Duda did this with premeditation. We appeal from this place for the PiS government to withdraw from this confrontation with the EU, because Poles want the EU, they are Europeans, and we want to be in the EU on normal terms - stated Andrzej Halicki at a briefing in the EP.

- We warn that through the actions of the PiS government, Poland could face sanctions, but let us remember that the driver receives a speeding ticket and it is not the passenger who warns the driver who is to blame, but the driver who is speeding - said Radosław Sikorski.

The following day, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, voting will occur during which the Sejm will adopt the draft budget bill for 2020.

The session begins on Wednesday at 10:00 AM, at which time Mariusz Marek Gosek will take his oath of office, followed by the second reading of the aforementioned draft budget bill.

Kierwiński on Puck Events: If Anyone Owes an Apology, It's Andrzej Duda for Introducing Hate into Polish Public Life
If anyone owes an apology, it's Andrzej Duda for introducing hate into Polish public life. Today, PiS politicians are so disturbed by what happened yesterday, but they were the ones who introduced this hate themselves - said Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News. - When did Andrzej Duda introduce hate, please tell me? - the journalist asked. - When I looked at President Duda's speeches in recent weeks, for example, directed at Polish judges, I rubbed my eyes in astonishment - Kierwiński replied.

19:37

Kierwiński:

It's not the case that the President will only meet with those who love him
Profanity is a completely different category, there's no endorsement for that. However, this is the only occasion [in the context of the ceremony in Puck] when the so-called sovereign can meet with President Duda. It's not the case that the President will only meet with those who love him - said Marcin Kierwiński in a conversation with Dorota Gawryluk on the program 'Gość Wydarzeń' on Polsat News.

19:43

Kierwiński on the MKB Strategy: Being in Small Towns, Talking to People Genuinely, Unlike President Duda Who Shouts Through a Microphone Surrounded by Security and PiS Activists

- The latest poll is encouraging. It's not that I think everything has changed, but systematically this strategy of being in small towns [of Kidawa-Błońska], talking to people, genuinely talking, unlike President Duda who, surrounded by a cordon of security guards and PiS activists, shouts through a microphone - said Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

21:17

Jourová:

The Commission Wants to Ensure Respect for EU Law and Will Take All Necessary Steps

- This law, called the repressive law, is controversial. The Venice Commission has already stated that the independence and impartiality of the judiciary continue to be threatened. Furthermore, we do not know if it complies with EU law; the Commission is closely examining the matter. I want to confirm that the Commission wants to ensure respect for EU law and will take all necessary steps [European Parliament simultaneous interpretation] - stated Věra Jourová during a debate in the European Parliament.

21:19

Jourová:

Respect for European Law is Crucial for EU Institutions and Member States; Vital for Judgement Recognition and Single Market Functioning

- I am concerned that recent events have unfolded as they have, because the situation is confirmed as very serious. Furthermore, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has also decided to consider a new motion and open proceedings regarding the rule of law in Poland. I want to reiterate once more that the European Commission wishes to engage in dialogue, continue this dialogue, and resolve problems. I have heard from Polish authorities that they are open at both the political and technical levels. We hope that the open debate will continue, because respect for European law is very important for EU institutions, but also for member states. This is very important when it comes to the recognition of judgments and the functioning of the single market [EP simultaneous translation] – Vera Jourová stated during a debate in the European Parliament.

Szydło:

We Have Begun Reforming the Judiciary and We Will Finish This Reform

- I express regret that the European Parliament is presenting a clearly political tone and so overtly refers to the instrumental use of the rule of law. The Polish justice system requires reforms. For 4 years, the Polish government, in accordance with the Constitution, within the scope of competences defined by EU treaties, and according to the expectations of Poles, because they are our sovereign, has been carrying out such reforms. We have begun reforming the judiciary and we will finish this reform. The fact is that a legal and political dispute is ongoing in Poland, but the resolution of the former belongs to Polish courts and tribunals, and the latter to Polish politicians. The system of the judiciary is an area not covered by EU law, and the involvement of the EP and the EC in these matters violates the fundamental principles of the treaties in the Union. It is also worth noting that the introduced reforms are modeled on solutions already functioning and never questioned by EU bodies in other member states. For example, the regulations prohibiting judges from making political statements functioning in France, or judges appointed by politicians in the Czech Republic or Germany are not challenged - said Beata Szydło during the EP debate on the rule of law in Poland.

Szydło:

We Want to Complete the Reform of the Polish Judiciary and, According to the Treaties, We Have the Right to Do So. Today's Debate Unfortunately Has a Political Dimension.
The reform of the judiciary is expected by the majority of Polish society, and the Polish government is acting in its interest, not in the interest of a selected social, professional, or political group. We want to complete the reform of the Polish judiciary and, according to the Treaties, as part of the community, we have the right to do so. Today's debate unfortunately has a political dimension. I find no justification for conducting it. We debated the rule of law in Poland here three weeks ago. No substantiated facts were then indicated to prove that the rule of law is being violated in Poland. Today we are returning to the topic. One might get the impression that the EP is forcing such facts, such a fictional reality it wants to create - said Beata Szydło during the EP debate on the rule of law in Poland.

Szydło:

For Dialogue and Cooperation to be Possible, Both Sides Must Want It, and I Get the Impression That For Now, This Readiness is Only on the Side of the Polish Government

- Commissioner Jourova received assurances from the most important people in the state regarding their willingness to cooperate and readiness for dialogue, but for dialogue and cooperation to be possible, both sides must want it, and I get the impression that for now, this readiness is only on the side of the Polish government - said Beata Szydło during the European Parliament debate on the rule of law in Poland.

Szydło:

For 4 Years, We've Been Justifying What Has Long Been Functioning in Other EU Countries
For 4 years, we have been justifying what has long been functioning in other EU countries. We are explaining reforms that are being introduced based on solutions operational in other member states. Poland is being denied the right to make sovereign decisions stemming from the treaties. Why is this happening? I leave the answer to this question to you, colleagues, because it seems that the Parliament needs to reflect not on what is happening in Poland, but on what is happening here – said Beata Szydło during the European Parliament debate on the rule of law in Poland.

Szydło:

Poland is in election campaign mode; it's likely the aim of today's debate was to involve Parliament in it

- Poland is in election campaign mode. It can be assumed with high probability that the aim of the initiators of today's debate was to involve Parliament in its course. To influence the election results in Poland in this way. EU institutions should not interfere in the electoral process of any member state. That is why I appeal to you, fellow Members of the European Parliament, do not succumb to the pressure of political frustrates who, unable to accept a democratic choice, want to influence the outcome this way. I can only apologize to you for those Polish politicians who do not understand that domestic political disputes transferred to the EU arena harm the community. I am sorry about this and I simply feel embarrassed by such an attitude - said Beata Szydło during the European Parliament debate on the rule of law in Poland.

Biedroń to Wiśniewska: I'm Ashamed That People Worse Than Communists Live in My Country, Destroying It More Than They Did
Minister of Justice, Prosecutor General Ziobro is destroying the Polish legal system at a whim. He is heading for a complete confrontation with European institutions and his own citizens. The Polish government is ready to lead to another catastrophe, to the freezing of EU funds and to a slow Polexit. Of course, with one goal. The defense of their party interests. And this is a real threat, for which unfortunately ordinary citizens may have to pay. Fortunately, in Poland, there is still no equality sign between Poles and the ruling party. Today, Poland is made up of people who defend democracy and want to live in a country governed by the rule of law, but due to the mad frenzy of PiS, they unfortunately cannot. Therefore, today, as we debate the rule of law, we must remember the ordinary people who, due to the incompetence and madness of the PiS government, may pay the highest price. Freezing of funds and a slow Polexit - said Robert Biedroń during a debate in the European Parliament. Joanna Kopcińska referred to Biedroń's statement as part of a blue card, which is an instrument used for asking questions during a debate. - Anyone who talks about Polexit only wants a row. I am an MEP elected from Poland. I am a Pole proud of my country, of a nation with a beautiful history and beautiful people. Let's not scare people with Polexit. It is as possible as Germany or France leaving the EU - she stated. - Dear Madam Member of Parliament. I am also proud of Poland. I am proud of a country that had the second oldest constitution in the world. I am proud of a country that overthrew communism, but I am ashamed that people live in my country who are worse than communists because they have destroyed my country more than the communists did. This is the greatest shame of the Third Polish Republic - Biedroń replied to her.

21:58

Szydło:

Poland is a Law-Abiding Country, and the Polish Government Acts in Accordance with the Polish Constitution and EU Treaties. Poland is a Member of the EU and a Sovereign Country. This Is How It Is and How It Will Be.

- We co-create the EU and share responsibility for it. Just like all member states, and on the same principles, we want to be treated. Many times, including in the past as Prime Minister of Poland, I have stated here in the EP, and today I say this as a Polish MEP, that Poland is a law-abiding country, and the Polish government acts in accordance with the Polish Constitution and EU treaties. Poland is a member of the EU and a sovereign country. This is how it is and how it will be - said Beata Szydło during the EP debate on the rule of law in Poland.

22:02

Halicki:

This is Not a Debate About Judicial Reform, Because No Such Reform Exists in Poland
Indeed, this is not a debate about judicial reform, because no such reform exists in Poland. Access to courts is longer, fees are higher, citizens can indeed feel disappointed. This is a debate about the desire of one party to seize the judiciary, to build a system that grants impunity to the authorities. The symbol of the past few days in Poland has become a party nominee, a government appointee, who tore up a resolution, acting not only unlawfully but arrogantly suggesting that he would be immune from punishment. This is how the government wants to treat the Constitution, EU treaties, or other commitments. And there can be no consent to this within our community. This is because citizens have the right to expect that their rights, civil rights, human rights, will be protected, and judges are judges who work throughout the EU for the benefit of all of us and must also have legal guarantees – said Andrzej Halicki during the European Parliament debate on the rule of law in Poland.

22:05

Sikorski to Jourová: Thank you, Commissioner, and the Commission, for trying to help us restore the rule of law in Poland
The current government has been trying for years to frame the former President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, for responsibility in a fictitious Smoleńsk attack. His lawyer, incidentally a former Deputy Prime Minister in Jarosław Kaczyński's government, stated that indicting him would be absurd. However, at the request of the current minister, he was brought before the so-called Disciplinary Chamber today. So, the fact that a lawyer says his client is innocent is already a reason for persecution. This is not the European understanding of the rule of law. Therefore, thank you, Commissioner, and the Commission, for trying to help us restore the rule of law in Poland – said Radosław Sikorski during a debate in the European Parliament.

22:07

Halicki:

It is You, I'm speaking to PiS, Who Harass Judges and Poles

- It is you, I'm speaking to PiS, who harass judges and Poles. Here is a report concerning 64 judges illegally repressed by the Disciplinary Chamber, which should not be operating. It is you who use falsehoods and propaganda, and for that, there is no consent either. But I have one piece of information for the Committee of Goodness. Polish society, throughout history, has dealt with those who violated the law and wanted to be unpunished. It will be the same now - said Andrzej Halicki during the EP debate on the rule of law in Poland.
