- I don't think such a decision would be the right one to make at this moment. The convocation of this body, meaning a government session chaired by the president, will serve to discuss the situation that has arisen after recent events in the Middle East and their potential consequences for Poland. However, it is also difficult to anticipate the discussion that will take place at this time. - stated Jacek Sasin in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego," when asked if the Cabinet Council would decide today on the withdrawal of Polish soldiers from Iraq.
- We are part of a larger whole here. I think these decisions should be made jointly with our allies. It does not seem appropriate to me for Poland to unilaterally and individually make any binding decisions - continued the Deputy Prime Minister.

Venice Commission Opinions Are Opinions and Do Not Directly Impact or Relate to the Legal Acts We Adopt
- We both know that the Venice Commission's opinions are opinions and do not have a direct impact or direct reference to the legal acts we adopt - stated Jacek Sasin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".
- Poland, despite being a member of the EU, is a sovereign country and also shapes its legal system, including in the area of the judiciary. These are not matters regulated by European law. There is no single model for the judiciary or the appointment of judges in the EU - the Deputy Prime Minister continued.

The Marshal of the Senate has started pursuing his own politics. It's a bit on the verge of violating the constitution.
- It was a meeting [between the Marshal of the Senate and the Russian ambassador], where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs clearly suggested that this meeting should not take place. This was disregarded. There were also no recommendations for the Marshal regarding the formula of the meeting. The only recommendation was that the meeting should not take place at all. The Marshal disregarded it, and started pursuing his own politics. It's a bit on the verge of violating the constitution - said Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

We Know Grodzki's Intentions. Unfortunately, They Aim to Strengthen the Model of Fighting the Government Through Foreign Channels
- Today, we know what Marshal Grodzki's intentions are. Unfortunately, these intentions are to strengthen this model of fighting the government through foreign channels. This is what the opposition has been doing for 4 years, for over 4 years. This is not a good solution - stated Jacek Sasin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Interview."
- I see a certain disturbing signal at the moment that the Marshal of the Senate has decided he is a completely separate authority, one that stands apart, does not need to cooperate with the government, the president, or those centers that conduct foreign policy, that he is like a third independent center that will conduct its own foreign policy. This is very bad, because it gives many countries, which do not necessarily wish us well, the opportunity to play these centers against each other - the Deputy Prime Minister continued.
- This is a principle that should be strictly adhered to. There are specialized diplomatic bodies in every country, and they should play a leading role when it comes to foreign policy. It cannot be the case that every politician, even an important one, conducts foreign policy according to their own discretion, because this simply harms us - he concluded.

„To my knowledge, no [one from the ruling camp will be present during the PSL's round table on judicial changes]. I would like to say on behalf of the Ministry of Justice – at the meeting organized by the agrarian party. It is difficult to engage in the agrarian party leader’s campaign, a presidential campaign. There was an excellent opportunity to discuss matters of justice when the opposition filed a vote of no confidence against the Minister of Justice” – said Deputy Minister Michał Wójcik in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

I Don't Know on What Basis the Venice Commission is Supposed to Appear in Poland. A Head of State, Government, or Parliament Can Make a Request or Invitation. Whom Does Grodzki Represent?
„I am wondering on what basis the Venice Commission is supposed to appear in Poland at all. If we were to look at the solutions concerning the Venice Commission itself, a state must first issue an invitation. Such a request can be made by the head of state, the government, the parliament, or international organizations. Whom does Marshal Grodzki represent? There was no resolution from the parliament – neither the Senate nor the Sejm” – said Deputy Minister Michał Wójcik in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

- Opening this table today, I will say something that will surprise everyone: I believe that Poland should be a state of law, not a state of lawyers. I will, of course, talk about this corporatism, which is a blight on the Polish justice system - stated Piotr Zgorzelski in an interview with Michał Rachoń on the TVP Info program "Jedziemy".
- I would like this not to be just idle talk, I would like it not to be the case that everyone says whatever is on their mind. I would like it to end with a consensus, a package that gives a chance to work through our proposed solutions. We are talking, for instance, about justices of the peace, who would, to a large extent, in a significant way, solve the most important ailments of the justice system, which the Civic Platform-Polish People's Party coalition (Po-PSL), Law and Justice (PiS), and earlier the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) failed to deal with - the PSL politician continued.

Schetyna Revitalized Civic Platform, Reorganized It, and Regained Trust. Only Victory in Parliamentary Elections Was Missing
- He [Grzegorz Schetyna] explained in the first words of his decision [why he is not running]. We have 4 years that close a certain chapter. During this time, Grzegorz Schetyna undoubtedly revitalized Platforma Obywatelska, reorganized it, but also regained a high level of trust for Platforma. It is logical [why he is not running], because if we recall the beginning, then the positive assessment I made in the first part of the sentence does not mean that everything was achieved as planned. He planned to return to the 30% level, when we were at 10, or even 8-9. He planned to rebuild trust in Platforma and to be the leading [party] in the opposition. He wanted to build broad support around it, meaning a whole bloc. This happened in both the Civic Coalition and the European Coalition. What was missing was that cherry on top in the form of victory in the parliamentary elections – stated Andrzej Halicki in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

The day after I was elected Marshal of the Senate, as media analysts calculated, within three days, 31 negative comments appeared about me, and shameful accusations began to surface regarding my unethical behavior concerning the acceptance of money from patients. I have consistently denied this and I deny it now. I have never demanded any money from anyone for surgeries or other medical services, nor have I accepted any" - said Marshal of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki at a press conference.

– Here we will demonstrate how many provisions of international law, European law, and the Constitution are being violated by the solutions adopted in the Sejm. But here we will also show the public why the adoption of these regulations is so very dangerous from the perspective of our national interests. As Chairman Klich pointed out, in a situation of international tensions, we should base our security and position on the international stage on close cooperation with our partners in the EU. Meanwhile, this law, this gag law, unfortunately, only and exclusively deepens our conflict with our partners in the EU, and therefore we want to warn the government in the Senate, but also to make the public aware that by adopting such solutions, we are in fact exposing the security of Poles to a very, very great threat. Therefore, we will do everything in the Senate to ensure that this law is first thoroughly discussed, and then that we in the Sejm can adopt the Senate's motion to reject this law in its entirety – stated Borys Budka at a briefing in the Senate.

Grodzki Violated Polish Law by Sending a Letter to the Venice Commission for an Opinion on Polish Law
A short video posted on Twitter by MP Michał Wójcik of the United Poland party alleges that Senator Tomasz Grodzki, Marshal of the Senate, violated Polish law by sending a letter to the Venice Commission seeking an opinion on a Polish legislative act.
In the video, Wójcik states, “Dear viewers, I am holding in my hand a letter from the Marshal of the Senate, Mr. Grodzki, sent to the Venice Commission. This is a clear violation of Polish law. The Marshal of the Senate, under Polish law, cannot request opinions from foreign bodies on Polish legislation. This is an act of disloyalty to the Republic of Poland.”
Wójcik further asserts that such actions undermine Polish sovereignty and disrespect the legislative process. He emphasizes that Polish laws should be reviewed and judged by Polish authorities, not by external entities.

President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday administered the oath of office to Rafał Wojciechowski, the new judge of the Constitutional Tribunal.
The ceremony took place in the Presidential Palace.
Rafał Wojciechowski was appointed to the Constitutional Tribunal by President Duda on January 14, 2020. He fills the vacancy left by the resignation of former judge Stanisław Biernat.
Wojciechowski is a lawyer and academic, specializing in constitutional law. He previously served as a legal advisor and held various positions in public administration.
The Constitutional Tribunal is the highest judicial body in Poland, responsible for reviewing the constitutionality of laws and other acts of public authorities. Its decisions are binding and can invalidate legislation.
The appointment of new judges to the Constitutional Tribunal has been a subject of political debate in Poland in recent years, with concerns raised about the politicization of the judiciary.

"This year it happened that a few days before this event, the World Holocaust Forum, a private organization, a foundation established by one of the world's, one might say, entrepreneurs of Jewish origin, which for several years has been organizing meetings related to commemorating the victims of the Holocaust, invites world leaders to Jerusalem, together with the Yad Vashem Museum, to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. I, as president, also received an invitation to these ceremonies. This happened some time ago. However, from the invitation, it could be inferred that my address was not foreseen, meaning that the Polish position and Polish remembrance of Holocaust victims, but the Polish remembrance and tribute by the president to all victims of the German, Nazi crime that occurred during World War II, could not be presented there. We have long addressed the Israeli side in various ways so that this voice, as the most important representative of the most important country, could be given there, because to be perfectly clear, the president of Germany, Israel, but also France, Great Britain will speak there, and in the corridors, the organizer mentions President Putin as the most important guest, who will also have a voice there. Therefore, it is important for me, even fundamental, that the President of the Republic of Poland, the country whose citizens suffered the most deaths in the Holocaust, three million Polish Jews, citizens of the Republic of Poland, lost their lives in the Holocaust, also speaks there. This is the largest number of Holocaust victims, as it is half of the total number of Holocaust victims recorded worldwide. Therefore, I had no doubt that, considering this fact, the President of the Republic of Poland taking the floor there, since the president of Germany and the presidents of so many other countries will speak, is something completely natural, justified. If only from the perspective of historical reasons, historical truth, not only telling this historical truth, but also acknowledging this historical truth, which is the number of victims and the significance of Poland as the state that was first attacked, from which World War II began, with the attack by German, Hitlerite Germany and Stalinist Russia, the Soviet Union, based on the Hitler-Stalin pact of August 23, 1939.”- I believed and still believe that the president speaking here was something natural, is something natural, and from the perspective of historical truth, it is also something necessary - PAD continued.
15:11
- All of this has been compounded by the statements made recently, primarily by President Putin himself, but also by a whole range of less prominent Russian politicians and commentators, which clearly distort historical truth. They are nothing but a kind of post-Stalinist revisionism, as there is no other way to describe them. Among other things, they attempt to shift responsibility for the outbreak of World War II onto Poland, in effect pointing to the responsibility of Poles. The responsibility of Poles for the Holocaust is also suggested, with claims of Polish anti-Semitism and generalizations that grossly violate, it can be boldly said, not only the interests of the Republic of Poland, but above all, they wound and unjustly treat Poles. Especially those who were Righteous Among the Nations, who risked their lives as entire families to save their fellow citizens, their Jewish neighbors, and who today at the Yad Vashem Institute, where these ceremonies will take place, where these speeches will be delivered, have the most commemorations – because the most Poles as Righteous Among the Nations, thus heroes of saving Jews from extermination, are commemorated in the Yad Vashem garden, where they have their planted trees, as is the custom of this museum and institute – stated President Andrzej Duda during the Cabinet Council meeting.
- Therefore, if we consider this situation, if we take into account the evident process of the Russian authorities implementing a specific policy in connection with this, if we consider everything we have accomplished so far in this matter, for which I am immensely grateful to the Prime Minister, as well as to Minister Czaputowicz and Prime Minister Gliński, referring to these historical issues, I have no doubt that this must be a policy that we will further plan in detail and we must foresee and discuss various scenarios and variants – PAD continued.

PMM:
We Bear a Special Responsibility to Develop the Best Approach to the Conflict, Which Has Entered a New Phase
- As such a partner, as a state fulfilling its obligations regarding defense spending at a level of at least 2% [of GDP], one of only a few such states, we bear a special responsibility to develop the best approach to this conflict, which, let's not hide it, has entered a new phase, in cooperation with our main partners, the USA, the countries of Western Europe, and also the EU, of which very many member states are also EU members. Poland can play an enormously positive role here, because we are very pro-European, at the same time we greatly respect and are pleased with our special alliance within NATO and with the USA, but we also traditionally have good diplomatic contacts in the Middle East. Our services are very active in the Middle East, and for several weeks now, with the escalation of this situation, we have been informing the President, along with Minister Czaputowicz, and consulting with the President on how to react to this escalating situation in the Middle East. We are also fully aware that any spark there can lead to an uncontrolled explosion, which is why we are trying to achieve de-escalation – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the Cabinet Council meeting.
15:51
– January 27th [is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day] and now we have the 75th anniversary, and it is in this context that we should view the recent statements by President Putin and other high-ranking officials of the Russian Federation. Statements with which we absolutely cannot agree. Statements that can indeed be called neo-Stalinist revisionism. Something that fundamentally aims to change the perception of one of the key moments in world history, it can safely be said, namely the outbreak of World War II. We know perfectly well how it was, and that is why, together with the President, we prepared a statement. I consulted on every stage of its content with the President, agreed on its text, and presented it to the world's public opinion, it can safely be said, because the resonance of this statement from a few days ago was indeed very positive for us, for our historical vision, for the historical truth that we are defending. This resonance was very positive worldwide – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the Cabinet Council meeting.
16:18
PM:
In cooperation with the President's office, we will spread historical truth around the world with the President
- We want to strongly emphasize that, in cooperation with the President's office, with the President, we will spread historical truth around the world, because it is an extremely important instrument of contemporary politics and also a tribute to the victims of gigantic, monstrous German crimes, and also Soviet crimes, which must be emphasized, because President Putin is trying to forget about this and falsify history in such a way that the world does not notice, bypasses Soviet crimes, Soviet communism. Fortunately, the Polish voice in Europe, in the world, is very strong, it is heard – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the Cabinet Council meeting.

Kidawa-Błońska Invited All Candidates for Internal Elections to a Meeting
Joanna Mucha, a Member of Parliament, stated that Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, the Civic Platform's presidential candidate, invited all individuals who ran in the internal elections to a meeting.

„Tensions and uncertainties related to foreign policy are growing. It is worth confirming the absolute uniformity, the coherence of our policy. We all know that tensions have been rising in the Middle East for several months. We remember the attack on the refinery in Saudi Arabia, the attacks on ships in the Persian Gulf, and this is one of the key areas from which oil and gas are exported worldwide, so economic stability is also linked to this. That is why it was necessary to discuss this very thoroughly, in depth, as we did at the Cabinet Council” - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
18:02
“We have agreed actions for the coming weeks, months, and quarters. This is very important because we do not know how the situation in the Middle East will develop, both from an economic perspective and also in terms of the hard security aspects,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after the Cabinet Council meeting.

Grodzki:
I tried to reach Czaputowicz all day today
- This trip [to Brussels], the [Ministry of Foreign Affairs] is of course aware of it. I tried to reach Minister Czaputowicz all day today, but they were at this Council of Ministers meeting. The Bureau of International Affairs has been in contact for a long time, and such visits are always coordinated at the official level. However, today I wanted to discuss some details with him, because you need to know that on January 9th, the Ambassador of Iran was scheduled to visit. I wanted to consult with him about this, but I couldn't reach him – stated Tomasz Grodzki in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.
18:10
“I received an invitation as President of the Republic of Poland to the ceremony in Jerusalem, but in addition to this invitation, it was unequivocally clear from it and the context of the situation that no speech by the President of the Republic of Poland was foreseen. Through diplomatic channels, as is customary in such situations, I proposed and approached the Israeli side to allow the President the opportunity to speak among other presidents in connection with the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. Unfortunately, despite numerous appeals through various diplomatic channels, this did not receive a positive response from the organizers of the ceremony. My decision as president was therefore unequivocal. I believed that the absence of a speech, the prevention of the President of the Republic of Poland, a country whose citizens constituted the majority of Holocaust victims, from speaking – 3 million Polish Jews were victims of the Holocaust out of 6 million Holocaust victims from all of Europe – shows how immense the loss was for the Polish state and society” - said President Andrzej Duda.
“The absence of a speech by the President of the Republic of Poland, who would speak about these victims and all Polish victims of the Holocaust and World War II, is not only an affront to the interests of the Republic of Poland and Poles, an affront to the interests and memory of those who saved Jews, but above all, it is a distortion of historical truth. I see no reason why the presidents of Russia, Germany, France, a representative of Great Britain, or the United States can speak on this great anniversary, and the President of the Republic of Poland could not, especially when President Putin is making accusations against Poland that are completely contrary to historical truth and which serve to attempt to humiliate us as a society” - he added.
18:13
- This visit, I want to strongly deny this, has nothing to do with what I am accused of, with conducting foreign policy. We are going at the invitation of Commissioner Jourová. Secondly, I have been trying to call the minister [Czaputowicz] all day today. I haven't succeeded, we still have a chance tomorrow, however, the visit is a working one. I am taking lawyers with me, both from the Chancellery of the Senate and from outside the chancellery, so that out of concern for Poland, we can consider which paragraphs of the bill, which has been sent to the Senate, could be so dangerous that the CJEU considers them to be a violation of the rule of law - stated Tomasz Grodzki in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.
19:41
“The Polish president is an undesirable person on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camp. This means that Poland’s position is such that we are being told to sit in the second or third row. That is the truth about Polish foreign policy and Poland’s standing in Europe and the world. [The President’s non-attendance in Jerusalem] is a desperate attempt to draw attention to the fact that we are completely on the political outside. This is sad, unfortunate” – said Grzegorz Schetyna, the outgoing chairman of Civic Platform, in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News.
19:42
Schetyna:
PAD Won't Fly to Jerusalem Due to Lack of Speaking Rights. Such Matters Take Months and Reflect Diplomatic Efforts. Diplomacy Failed Here.
"Things are not going well, as there will be no Polish voice [in Jerusalem]. It is unfortunate that the Polish president will not be there, that there is no possibility for him to speak. The question is who will represent Poland, because I believe there is a danger of another attack on President Putin's historical policy and on Poland. [Andrzej Duda] is not flying because he did not receive the right to speak. Such matters are arranged months in advance and are the result of diplomatic work. Diplomacy has failed here" - said the outgoing Civic Platform leader, Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.
19:46
Schetyna:
Had We Been Invited to the National Security Council Meeting, We Would Have Spoken with One Voice with the President
„[Had we been invited to the National Security Council meeting], we would have spoken [with the president] with one voice. I am convinced of this. Just as we are now working in the Sejm on the resolution drafted by Marshal Kidawa-Błońska regarding those mendacious statements by President Putin” – stated the outgoing leader of Civic Platform, Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News.
19:53
Schetyna:
I believed that the debate surrounding me and my candidacy would not serve Civic Platform. This is the most important project of my life, and I will do everything to make PO stronger.
“I believe that the 4 years of this term mark the end of a certain phase. Three elections – the ones won in the Senate and the recent ones lost in the Sejm – have led to a debate within Civic Platform, but mainly, often perhaps, in the media, about a new beginning, the necessity of starting a new chapter. Perhaps [a new chapter] would have been [possible with me as leader]. Perhaps if I had pushed my candidacy, and I was urged to, perhaps I would have won. I believed that the debate surrounding me and my candidacy would not serve Civic Platform. This is the most important project of my life, and I will do everything to make it [PO] stronger, not weakened by a debate about whether I should be the leader or not” – said the outgoing leader of Civic Platform, Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News.
19:54
Schetyna:
I realized there's also a possibility of finding a place in Civic Platform, not necessarily at the forefront or at the very top. Perhaps one needs to have distance from oneself.

The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda (PJK - President Jarosław Kaczyński, then leader of PiS), and the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki (PMM), met with the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán.
The meeting, details of which were shared via a post on the official Twitter account of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) on January 7, 2020, likely focused on ongoing political and strategic cooperation between Poland and Hungary within the European Union, particularly concerning their shared perspectives on key EU policies and challenges.
Given the context of 2020, discussions may have touched upon topics such as the future of the EU, migration policies, the rule of law debates, and bilateral relations.

Although, generally, the partners for commissioners are the Prime Minister or the Minister of Foreign Affairs. I haven't met with her yet during this term. It's known that various actions are being undertaken there. Moreover, and this is a problem, the Marshal's initiative to approach the Venice Commission, and certain verifications here – I don't see good faith in this - said Jacek Czaputowicz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" on Polsat News.

Grodzki Announces Brussels Visit in Special Recording:
We’re Going Not to Complain, but Out of Concern for Poland.
- First, there will be a conversation at the level of the Marshal and Deputy Marshals with Commissioner Jourová and Commissioner Reynders from the justice commission. Then, there will be an expert debate, as that is the main reason for the visit. I remind you that we are going to Brussels not to complain, as many might claim, but out of concern for Poland. This is because the EU budget is to be linked to the rule of law. And we want to avoid a situation where this bill, which is currently being processed in the Senate, could be accused of violating the rule of law in Poland, and thus we would be deprived of all or part of the EU funds. We cannot allow that. It is a great danger, and as the Senate, we must prevent this danger. So that we can continue to enjoy EU funds for the reconstruction of our country and support for our economy. That is also why I am going, among other things, to exchange views on which articles of this bill carry the danger of being recognized as violating the rule of law, and such articles can be found, for example, in the election of the First President of the Supreme Court - says Tomasz Grodzki in a special recording, which 300POLITYKA is the first to publish. The Marshal of the Senate thus announces tomorrow's visit to Brussels, during which he will meet with Věra Jourová.
No one will put pressure on the President regarding when to sign or not sign.
