Monday marks the second day of the Sejm Marshal Elżbieta Witek's visit to Prague. Today, the heads of the parliamentary chambers will meet at the Senate of the Czech Republic. Topics of discussion will include, among others, the democratic transformations of 1989 and cooperation within the Visegrad Group. After the conference concludes, Marshal Witek will hold talks with Radek Vondráček, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.

At 12:00 PM, a ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Foundation for the Development of Radiocommunications and Multimedia Technologies will take place at the Warsaw University of Technology. - It's not that we have to choose anything to support. We can reject both of these solutions [abolishing the 30-fold cap on ZUS contributions and raising excise duty on stimulants]. None of this is supportable. Certainly, for us in Nowoczesna, supporting any tax increases is unacceptable - stated Katarzyna Lubnauer in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- Everyone realizes that PiS is very nervously seeking money right now to confirm their thesis of a balanced budget. Unfortunately, the economic data is not the best. We already know that economic growth has recently fallen below 4%. This is an unpleasant surprise for the government. The budget is projected for economic growth above 3.5%, as far as I remember. If it falls below this level, it will mean that there will be no specific revenues for the budget - she continued.

- It is not the Senate's role to block laws in an undemocratic or dishonest manner. [Roman Giertych's nuclear option] would indeed be a transgression of certain principles of social coexistence, as they politely say. If it were about a law that, I have the impression, strikes at the foundations of democracy, for example, if someone introduced a law that hinders the possibility of future elections, etc., then one would probably have to consider the nuclear option as well. - I hear that consultations are ongoing. I can tell you who really wants to be the Left's presidential candidate. Undoubtedly, Robert Biedroń. - At the moment, it seems that this idea [of Modern being absorbed by Civic Platform] is not emerging, and what's more, there are no such plans - stated Katarzyna Lubnauer in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- I have a habit of not interfering in such actions, so as not to advise others on whom they should choose as their leader - she continued, when asked about the leadership elections within Civic Platform.

- There is no doubt that for me, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska is the best candidate [for president]. I do not see [another potential candidate] at this moment - stated Katarzyna Lubnauer in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

The situation has changed because Donald Tusk announced that he would not be running for this position [president]. This only increases Andrzej Duda's chances. This matter has three aspects: economic, social, and political. The economic aspect is that the government estimates that through this maneuver, it will gain an additional 5-6 billion PLN. The social aspect is that the abolition of the limit may in the future result in huge disparities in pension amounts, which has little in common with left-wing ideology. Meanwhile, the postulate I hear, that the amount of the highest pension can be legally limited, will be challenged in the Constitutional Tribunal and overturned. The third is political. We are witnessing for the first time in this, just-beginning, term of office, such a decomposition of the ruling camp, where one coalition party, Mr. Gowin's party, is decidedly opposed to the ideas of other coalition parties. This is a dream situation for the opposition. The opposition must not help under any circumstances, but should work towards deepening this decomposition. In conclusion, the Left should not support this bill – said Leszek Miller in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

- A disagreeable matter. All the more so because there is no surprise here, nor is it a new action, as Mr. Gowin and his party knew about such plans before the elections. Nothing allows the Prime Minister and ministers to avoid Senate questions or participation in Senate debates. I have the impression that, abstracting from the Banaś case, which is outrageous due to its scale and the Senate has the right to deal with it, because Poles are also concerned about this, of course within the framework of its constitutional powers. Senator Bogdan Zdrojewski's statement regarding raising the retirement age is not the position of Civic Platform (PO) and contradicts its program. Civic Platform has repeatedly emphasized that it is against raising the retirement age, and it maintains this stance - wrote Platforma's spokesperson Jan Grabiec in a statement, referring to Zdrojewski's interview for the weekly "Wprost" today.

- The Senate is not an emergency service, neither for the government nor the opposition. If a certain debate cannot take place in the Sejm, if the procedure for submitting this very important, fundamental project [regarding 30-fold limit] excludes social consultations at the Sejm level, meaning it allows the Sejm to bypass consultations because it is submitted by MPs. Consultation in such a field, hearing from experts, which has always been lacking in the previous Sejm term, is an inherent, most important, one of the most important features of parliamentary debate. So that parliamentarians, on behalf of the sovereign, can hear various opinions. Not only political, but also expert ones. Therefore, if the Sejm, with the majority it has, limits the rights of parliament, then within the framework prescribed by the Constitution, the Senate will exercise these rights. It will work on laws, invite various points of view to the debate, and moreover, I can promise as a member of the Senate presidium, as Deputy Marshal of the Senate, that I will always ensure that the voice of the government and the parliamentary majority is also heard, has the full right to participate in this debate. But to participate in a debate, a debate must take place. And PiS dislikes debates - stated Michał Kamiński in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

- I think Robert Biedroń has the strongest position. Frankly, it seems to me that it is a very good proposal for Robert Biedroń to become the Left's candidate in the upcoming elections - stated Marcelina Zawisza in an interview with Jacek Gądek on Gazeta.pl's Morning Talk, when asked about the Left's candidate in the presidential elections.

When asked if Adrian Zandberg was closer to her heart, she replied: - Of course, because we agree on most of the postulates, but I believe that Robert Biedroń simply has a lot of charisma. He is a very modern politician. He is a politician who can truly connect with citizens. We need someone who will not sit in the Presidential Palace, but someone who will actively conduct politics. We also need a politician who will not be afraid to sign good laws, bold laws, that the Left will propose.

- I will advocate for sending the bill for further work, to the committee, so we can work on improving it, because it has obvious flaws. Abolishing the 30-fold cap is necessary for us – stated Marcelina Zawisza in an interview with Jacek Gądek in Gazeta.pl's Morning Conversation, when asked about the potential support for abolishing the 30-fold cap by The Left (Lewica).

- We want to work on it [the act]. We see obvious flaws. A flaw is also how this project is being processed. Without social consultations, without consultations with the Social Dialogue Council, without consultations with trade unions. We believe that this act should be better consulted, it should actually be the subject of social consultations at all, because new issues keep emerging, but the very idea of abolishing the 30-fold cap is very good. That's why I would like us to work on this project – added the MP from The Left (Lewica).

– I am not urging for that. Today, when we look at the political scene, it is good that there are three different parties in parliament. Each with slightly different political roots and different programs – stated Krzysztof Gawkowski in a conversation with Michał Rachoń on the TVP Info program “Jedziemy,” when asked if the Together party would join a new left-wing party or coalition.

– If a union were to occur that would link both Spring and SLD, then the Together party should go its own way, because it has stronger programmatic elements in certain matters – added the head of The Left parliamentary club.

- Aleksander Kwaśniewski is a former Polish president. Former, meaning not currently tied to Poland, and his European or world lectures, as he is in Washington today, are not a problem for us. I assess Kwaśniewski's presidency excellently - stated Krzysztof Gawkowski in an interview with Michał Rachon on the TVP Info program “Jedziemy”, when asked about the impeachment of Donald Trump and the mention of Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Joe Biden's son by American congressmen during hearings regarding an Ukrainian oligarch.

When asked if he sees a problem with the former Polish president being at the center of a gigantic scandal, he replied: - The matter is at the center of a scandal because the current American president, Donald Trump, attempted through illegal methods to force the president of Ukraine to start a game aimed at eliminating his political opponent. I don't see a problem with the former Polish president. Former! He works or lectures at one of the institutions. President Kwaśniewski is not a public figure holding state positions and has the right to pursue his business mission. Leave him alone.

When pressed on whether former Polish presidents and prime ministers should participate in such dealings, the leader of The Left club responded: - Former Polish presidents and prime ministers, because this should concern these two important state positions, should have a worthy salary that allows them to live normally, not a salary at the level of parliamentarians, which sometimes doesn't even allow them to travel for lectures that are completely free. It was Jarosław Kaczyński who said that former presidents and prime ministers should earn at least twice as much as they do now. I have respect for President Kwaśniewski and I will defend him. If it turns out there were elements that could negatively affect his image, you can invite me and we'll talk. I don't believe that today.

The matter concerns the most important people in the state: the Prime Minister and the famous head of NIK [Supreme Audit Office], Mr. Banaś, who is directly identified as someone who allegedly torpedoed operational work against entities defrauding millions through VAT carousel schemes

Civic Platform will demand the disclosure of the report from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

A session of the parliamentary Committee on Justice and Human Rights has been convened for this coming Wednesday at 5:00 PM. The session will focus on reviewing applications for the positions of judges of the Constitutional Tribunal. The candidates in question are three individuals nominated for these positions by PiS: Robert Jastrzębski, Krystyna Pawłowicz, and Stanisław Piotrowicz. The election of judges is scheduled to take place the following day, during Thursday's voting block, which is planned to commence at 9:00 PM.

- On behalf of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union "Solidarity", we appeal to the Members of Parliament who are members of our union, as well as our sympathizers, to oppose the amendment to the law abolishing the annual limit of 30 times the average salary, above which contributions to social insurance are not deducted - it was written in an appeal to MPs who are members and MPs who are sympathizers of NSZZ "Solidarity", signed by chairman Piotr Duda.

"The current solution protects the Social Insurance Fund against excessive stratification of paid pensions, safeguards against a leap in the highest benefits, whose indexation would be higher than the value of the lowest pensions, and counteracts the creation of an excessive deficit of the fund.


In the labor market, the 30-fold limit promotes high employment standards by limiting the excessive growth of labor costs. Its abolition will cause a further increase in the number of employees operating under non-code employment forms.


NSZZ "Solidarity" also points to the flawed argumentation of the creators of this amendment, whose main premise is increased budget revenues. These are questionable, and in the face of the threats mentioned above, even dangerous. Therefore, we appeal to introduce other solutions instead of seeking budgetary crutches, such as a third higher tax bracket.


We consider statements by some MPs, who, using the argument of social "justice," postulate that along with the abolition of the 30-fold limit, a limit on the amount of paid pensions should be introduced, to be unacceptable. This is an expression of the lack of elementary competence of people who, having a democratic mandate to enact law, consequently call for the violation of the constitution."

„The national board has foreseen such a situation [where only one candidate runs], and the regulations for the primary nominations stipulate that the national board will make the final decision on further procedure by November 22. So, most likely, we will know this final decision this week on Friday” - said PO spokesperson Jan Grabiec in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM. 

„Everything is possible, although the idea of organizing a large national convention with delegates from all over Poland seems like a good idea to me, and this December 14th is a good date for a sharp start to the election campaign” - he added.

- For now, the problem lies more with Prime Minister Gowin, who previously supported it in the budget assumptions, in the act, in the government vote, and later stated that it is not a good solution after all and withdrew from it - said Andrzej Dera in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program 'Gość Wydarzeń' on Polsat News.

- I have seen stranger things in politics, so if there is no such majority, another will be sought, and we will see if it passes. I am curious myself - Dera added.

- Announcements about this democratic procedure, about which they said there would be primaries, and suddenly it turns out that for some strange reasons there are no candidates. Could it be a setup? Could it be that no one wants to lose? It's known in advance who will win. I'm wondering about this. I don't suspect it stems from fear. I think it stems from the fact that [Kidawa-Błońska] has already been marked, and no one wants to be the loser at this moment - said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

- Certainly, one cannot underestimate what Andrzej Duda is doing. However, I think he is a much better candidate than president. He performs better in campaigns, he's probably hardworking. That's worse for the competition, but he is a terrible president. He added that he understands that the primaries are an idea to engage public opinion.

- Certainly, the Civic Platform must rethink its operations because it has been in a very difficult situation for many, many years.
