- Firstly, this is what Jarosław Kaczyński said. We owe no one anything, we will pay no one. - Minister Ziobro said he lacks facts. He lacks facts. The report states 382 priests were involved in abuse. Two ended up in prison. So where are the other 380? Nearly 700 children, Mr. Speaker, that is a matter of conscience. A matter of conscience for all of us! These are facts! - said Sławomir Nitras, before the Speaker of the Sejm cut him off. - This law doesn't solve anything, only a state investigative commission has a chance to clarify this matter and help the Church cleanse itself - said the head of the Civic Platform (PO) club, S. Neumann. - You don't want to clarify this matter, you want to create a smokescreen and protect pedophile priests because you have an alliance with that part of the Church which engages in politics - Neumann said. When the Marshal of the Sejm turned off the microphone of the PO club leader, PO MPs - visible in the photos Cezary Tomczyk and Paweł Olszewski - took out signs with the demands written on them: "Commission Immediately" and "Stop Pedophilia". - I call on the MPs to remove these signs - reacted the Marshal. In the meantime, the Marshal conducted a vote in which the entire Sejm, except for 6 MPs, supported the government's bill.

- 40% of sentences for sexual exploitation of children in Poland are suspended sentences. Once, the mother of one of the children who was raped, after the suspended sentence, said that she almost felt raped, but by the state apparatus, and the pedophile perpetrator laughed in her face. There was an opportunity to change this penal policy when in 2007 the PiS government presented a draft of the Penal Code with a radical tightening of penalties for pedophilic offenses, giving courts and prosecutors the tools to effectively combat pedophilia. The case of a priest convicted in 2006 was also presented, but the sentence was so lenient that he was able to return to his criminal activities later, in 2012, during the PO government. We want to combine inevitability with severity. We want to give hope to victims and parents, so they can count on a sense of security, while perpetrators do not feel fear. PO consistently voted against increasing penalties for pedophiles. They advocated for solutions more lenient towards pedophiles than what we proposed, both when in government and in opposition. Platforma voted against a registry of pedophiles, and did nothing to ensure that individuals possessing credible information about a crime face consequences for not reporting it - said Zbigniew Ziobro in the Sejm, after the project was voted on and amidst turmoil involving the opposition.

- I want to say very clearly that the shameful style of leadership by Marshal Kuchciński, preventing questions from being asked, manipulated statements by ministers, conducting debate in a manner that is an affront to parliamentary standards and basic human decency. That is one thing. But secondly, I want to say very clearly that this law cannot be treated as something sufficient, as a sufficient response from the Polish parliament to the situation that is so dramatically revealing itself today, concerning human tragedies, pedophilia, and cases that are now coming to public awareness, to the news. We are speaking very firmly: this law is not designed to effectively combat pedophilia, because we submitted many amendments, we spoke about many things that were not included in it - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at a briefing in the Sejm.

- Today we know that the Church as an institution cannot cope with this problem alone. We believe that a state commission should be established, and we will present such a proposal next week. Only a commission, modeled after countries that have dealt with this cruel problem and the issues that have plagued the Church, such as in Ireland, Chile, or now in Germany, can effectively answer the questions that will be asked, that are asked by victims and the public. It cannot be the case that we sweep this news under the rug, that the prosecution, as Zbigniew Ziobro said today, has no facts and thus shows that it can do nothing in this matter. Actions are needed today. We are submitting this project. If PiS does not agree to its passage in this parliament, we will make it one of the first laws passed by the next parliament after the elections in October 2019 - added the PO chairman.

- In every situation where credible information reaches the prosecutor's office that someone, having credible information, failed to fulfill their obligation to report child abuse, they will bear criminal responsibility for it, whoever they may be. There will be no leniency for anyone, but we will not participate in this farce or spectacle organized by the total opposition at the expense of children. All these cases that come to our attention of not notifying the authorities cannot be the basis for prosecutorial action, because they were not punishable at the time. You could have introduced the obligation to denounce pedophiles during your long years in power – said Zbigniew Ziobro in the Sejm.

- The Church has seen deeds that are a grim chapter, revealing shameful behavior by some individuals. When not barred by statute of limitations, criminal law should be applied. But the opposition is not at all concerned with the victims, but with political warfare. They want to indict the entire Church for these deeds. They are not interested in the truth, only in politics. Each time, they have been against us and stood on the side of pedophiles. We will ruthlessly eradicate pedophilia, wherever it may be. From all social groups, all professions, without distinction - stated Zbigniew Ziobro.

The goal of the scuffles incited in the Sejm by the opposition was to prevent the adoption of amendments to the Penal Code increasing penalties for pedophiles.
