I wish to reassure Polish entrepreneurs. There will be no test. What appears in today's press are false reports
As government spokesperson, I wish to debunk the false information appearing in the media space. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has sent a clear and unambiguous signal to all entrepreneurs. Dear entrepreneurs, there will be no entrepreneur test. I want to reassure Polish entrepreneurs. There will be no test. What appears in today's press are false reports,” said government spokesperson Joanna Kopcińska in an interview with Piotr Goćek on “Sygnały dnia” on Polish Radio Channel One.

07:46

Kopcińska:

We Expect the True Version of Events from Tel Aviv to Be Clarified and Presented Swiftly. To Avoid Inflaming Polish-Israeli Emotions, We Appeal for Mutual Respect.

We expect the true version of events [the attack on Ambassador Magierowski] to be clarified and presented swiftly. The version that appears in the media is the one presented by the perpetrator. The police have apprehended the individual who attacked the Polish ambassador and are clarifying all circumstances. In order not to inflame emotions, and to avoid adding unnecessary tension to this incident and Polish-Israeli relations, we appeal for mutual respect. It is absolutely unacceptable for an attack on a Polish diplomat in Israel to occur” – said government spokesperson Joanna Kopcińska in an interview with Piotr Goćek on "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day) on Jedynka radio.

Kopcińska on Claims Regarding Uninherited Property: Solutions Announced by the Prime Minister Will Be Implemented Immediately After the Election Campaign

"We do not want the issue of Polish-Israeli relations and the return of property to become an election topic. These are too serious matters. Poland's position is firm and unambiguous. We owe no one anything and will return nothing to anyone, but the appropriate solutions announced by Prime Minister Morawiecki will be implemented immediately after the election campaign" - said government spokesperson Joanna Kopcińska in an interview with Piotr Gócki on "Sygnały dnia" on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

Wójcik on Amendments to the Penal Code: This is Another Stage in Our Fight Against Pedophilia, Against This Disgusting Phenomenon
This is another stage [of amendments to the Penal Code] in our fight against pedophilia, against this disgusting phenomenon. In legal terms, we want to create a framework within which the state, i.e., state authorities, law enforcement, will operate to combat pedophilia. These changes have been in preparation for much longer than these last few days. They were not prepared under the influence of the film. We are effective, and as another stage, following the so-called pedophile registry, we want to introduce a second step, which is the toughening of penalties – stated Michał Wójcik in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:01

Mazurek on the amendment to the Penal Code: This is not such difficult or complicated material that it cannot be familiarized with in such a short time. Especially since everyone plays with the topic of pedophilia.

- This is not such difficult or complicated material that it cannot be familiarized with in such a short time. Especially since everyone plays with the topic of pedophilia and who protected pedophiles. There is a solution, and I believe it should be adopted – said Beata Mazurek in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on the program „Graffiti” on Polsat News.

08:04

Mazurek:

We are not in close contact with Church dignitaries

- I, for example, am a politician from the Law and Justice party. We are not in close contact with Church dignitaries, so let's not generalize. We all go to church. Both Civic Platform and the Polish People's Party talk about values - said Beata Mazurek in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on the program "Graffiti" on Polsat News.

08:04

Wójcik on the So-Called Age of Consent: 'To My Knowledge, Yesterday Evening, During Commission Works, an Amendment Was Submitted That Reinstates 15 Years'

- To my knowledge, yesterday evening, during commission works, an amendment was submitted that reinstates the age at 15 years. Please do not interpret this as a withdrawal. The legislative process is ongoing, and according to my knowledge, one of the MPs submitted such an amendment, and the commission adopted it. One can defend the age of 16, because here there is only this case, if it occurred, for example, in this phenomenon, in this situation, if someone was, for instance, 19 years old, this age proximity, it gave the court the possibility to refrain from imposing a penalty or to exceptionally mitigate it. However, due to, among other things, the provision in the Family and Guardianship Code, that a woman, upon marrying earlier, this age limit is lowered, we have concluded that 15 years will be the good limit, i.e., no changes – stated Michał Wójcik in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:07

Mazurek:

We Owe No One Anything, We Will Pay No One. If We Receive a Bill, We'll Send It to Berlin

- Firstly, this is what Jarosław Kaczyński said. We owe no one anything, we will pay no one. If anyone owes us anything, and as other politicians of ours say, if we receive a bill, we will send that bill to Berlin – said Beata Mazurek in a conversation with Wojciech Dąbrowski on the Polsat News program „Graffiti”.

08:11

Szynkowski vel Sęk on Legutko's Statement: 'Pedophile Crimes Cannot Be Relativized Under Any Circumstances'
'Pedophile crimes cannot be relativized under any circumstances. I believe they should be punished with the utmost severity, regardless of which social group they concern, whether it's a prominent figure, a priest, a politician, or a journalist. I think Professor Legutko wanted to categorize. Pedophile offenses against very young children, and then to distinguish offenses committed against teenagers. In a criminal sense, there is no difference here. I would not endorse those words' - said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:15

Szynkowski vel Sęk on Halting Work on the So-Called Anti-447 Bill: There Were No Pressures. We Will Not Allow the 447 Issue to be Played in the Campaign. It is Contrary to Poland's Interests

There were no such pressures [to halt work on the Anti-447 bill], however, we will not allow such projects and the issue of the 447 bill to be played in the election campaign. This is contrary to Poland's interests, to the interests of Polish foreign policy. A week and a half before the elections, one cannot make such insertions, where the bill is essentially a legal flop” - said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:19

Szynkowski vel Sęk on Tusk's Presence at Saturday's EC March: It's a Novelty for a High-Ranking EU Official to Engage in Campaign Activities for Two Weeks

"In my opinion, it is a novelty for a high-ranking official in the European Union to openly engage in current campaign activities in one of the member states for two weeks. This is peculiar. Donald Tusk participates in various events and winks, but it's clear to everyone what it's about," stated Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:27

Wójcik:

In Recent Years, We Have Begun to Seriously Fight Pedophilia

- If you look at the recent statements by church officials, one cannot speak of a structural problem here. If we know the professions carried out by the perpetrators at the time of the offense, and it comes to light due to the amendment we adopted, you will see what professions these individuals represent - stated Michał Wójcik in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- In recent years, we have begun to seriously fight pedophilia. Do you remember Donald Tusk, who spoke about the chemical castration of pedophiles? What came of that? Nothing. Do you remember that in 2010 there was already a proposal for a pedophile registry? The Civic Platform did not want this registry. In 2016 they voted against it, and yesterday they also voted against this project - he added.

08:32

Mucha on the amendment to the Penal Code: In my opinion, these proposals being put forward are good legislative proposals

- I can speak on my own behalf. Yes, in my opinion, these proposals being put forward are good legislative proposals. They also refer to solutions found in the legal systems of other countries when it comes to increasing the penalty - said Paweł Mucha in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Polish Radio 3's "Salon polityczny" (Political Salon).

09:04

Santander:

No Severance Package Granted to Morawiecki
Santander Bank Polska S.A. states that in connection with the resignation from the position of President of the Management Board of Bank Zachodni WBK submitted on November 9, 2015, no severance package was granted to Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki – it was written in the statement.

09:22

Radziwiłł:

Tusk is a top EU official. Rules dictate officials stay out of politics. His involvement in the election campaign is inconsistent with this.

- Everything indicates [Donald Tusk's participation in Saturday's march is a violation of the treaties]. Donald Tusk, depending on his sympathies and antipathies towards political groupings in Poland and his greater or lesser involvement in Poland, is today a high-ranking, top-level official in the EU, and certain rules apply to officials regarding staying out of politics. That's just how it is. And it seems that his increasing involvement in the election campaign, because such announcements should be perceived as such, in Polish politics altogether, is indeed inconsistent with his duties and the limitations accompanying his function. In my opinion, he should not be doing this – stated Konstanty Radziwiłł in an interview with Dorota Łosiewicz on TVP1's "Kwadrans polityczny" (Political Quarter of an Hour).

Civic Platform Asks: 'Who Pays Morawiecki? Who is His Employer?' Amidst Speculation of 'Financial Benefit' Linked to Premier's Banking Past
“As the Civic Platform parliamentary club, we demanded information from the government on this matter. We submitted a request to the Marshal of the Sejm to expand the agenda to include information on this issue, so that all clubs could express their views and the public could learn this information. We were prevented from doing so, and the impression remains that someone is trying to hide certain things in this matter or not tell the whole truth, when the public deserves reliable information on this. Another day has passed since the publications appeared, reporting on an alleged agreement or decision by the bank, the former employer of Prime Minister Morawiecki, granting the prime minister a bonus, a financial benefit related to his previous work,” stated Sławomir Nitras from Civic Platform during a press conference in the Sejm. “We have information that a serious financial institution, directly dependent on the prime minister, is providing some benefits to the prime minister. Serious doubts arise as to who is paying Prime Minister Morawiecki, who is Prime Minister Morawiecki’s employer. It is in the interest of the Polish state and Prime Minister Morawiecki to cut short speculation on this matter.”

10:56

Cymański on the Swiss Franc Bill: "We Did Our Job, But This Law, Regarding Conversion, Does Not Meet the Expectations of the Swiss Franc Borrowers' Community"
- I don't know if the [Sejm] Marshal will include it, but I want to say right away, because I chaired that subcommittee. We did our job, but this law, when it comes to conversion, meaning the second part, the spectacular, the controversial, the most difficult part, i.e., the recalculation of these loans, it does not meet the expectations of the Swiss Franc borrowers' community. On the other hand, the first part, concerning assistance for all borrowers, including those with zloty loans, is good. But the decision rests with the Marshal - stated Tadeusz Cymański in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

Vote on Contested Point Regarding Second Reading of Criminal Code Amendments at 1:00 PM

Today at 1:05 PM - as planned - the second reading of the government's proposed amendments to the Criminal Code, aiming to toughen penalties for pedophilia, is scheduled to take place. Earlier, at 1:00 PM, a vote will be held, as this point is a contested one. Consequently, it is almost certain that the amendments to the Code will be adopted this evening.

11:37

Legutko:

Manipulated Information About My Statement. In the Very First Sentences of the Interview, I Condemned Disgusting Sexual Behavior Towards Minors, Which, In My Opinion, Should Be Punished With Full Severity
- In connection with the appearing manipulated information regarding my statement from an interview for Polish Radio 24 on May 15th of this year, I hereby inform that in the very first sentences of the interview, I condemned disgusting sexual behavior towards minors, which in my opinion should be punished with full severity - wrote Ryszard Legutko in a statement sent to the media.
"I would like to remind that the term 'pederasty' in translation from Greek means 'love for boys,' and more broadly defines sexual relations between men and adolescent youths. Labeling this phenomenon as an element of the problem the Church has been facing for years by name does not mean that there should not be punishments provided for by Polish law – quite the opposite. I further inform that any attempts to attribute an approving character to my statement or to suggest any leniency or downplaying of the problem of punishing sexual acts against minors will be met with a lawsuit."

Civic Platform: I have a proposal for Professor Legutko. Let him go to the parents of altar boys molested by priests and tell them that what was done to their children is not pedophilia.

- Today I have a proposal for Professor Legutko. Let him go to the parents of altar boys molested by priests and tell them that what was done to their children is not pedophilia. Let him go and have the courage to look them in the face, sitting opposite them, not sitting in a studio in front of a journalist from a friendly TV station - said Ewa Kopacz during a press conference in the Sejm.

Parliament works on amendments to the Penal Code, voting this evening. Kownacki submits amendments:

This project is not the result of an ad hoc action.
- This project, during its first reading, was previously prepared by the Ministry of Justice. It is not the result of an ad hoc action, but of diligent, substantive, calm work by the former Minister of Justice. However, given the current public demand and the emotions this issue evokes, it is the duty of parliamentarians to start working as quickly as possible and to work substantively - stated Bartosz Kownacki during the second reading of the bill to amend the Penal Code, which aims to toughen penalties for pedophilia. - We want these pedophilic offenses to not become statute-barred before the victim of the offense reaches the age of 40 - continued the PiS MP regarding the amendments. - We are also proposing solutions that will toughen criminal liability in cases of organized criminal groups, including organized criminal groups that commit offenses of a pedophilic nature - he added. It is almost certain that the government's bill will be adopted in the evening session, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Budka to PiS: You Don't Want to Solve the Pedophilia Issue. You're Merely Pretending for the Public, Because You're Complicit Through Silence with Those Who Didn't Report Criminals

It is a disgrace how you are treating this issue. It is a disgrace how you are treating victims of crime. It is a disgrace that once again you are using this matter for a drastic and absolutely unconstitutional toughening of the Penal Code in other areas. We want a thorough, real fight against this problem. Without the special committee we want to establish, there is no chance of clarifying this matter, because you are in a constant alliance, including with those who also concealed cases. Today, you are trying in an absolutely shameful way to pretend that you are fighting the problem of pedophilia” – said Borys Budka from Civic Platform (PO) during a parliamentary debate.

You absolutely do not want this matter resolved. You are merely pretending for the public, because you have a pact of silence with those who, unfortunately, very often, did not report criminals” – he added.

14:20

Gasiuk-Pihowicz:

You Can Enshrine Even 100 Years for Pedophilia in the Penal Code, But What's the Point if Nearly 60% of Pedophilia Offenses Committed in the Church Were Not Reported to Law Enforcement?

You can enshrine even 100 years for pedophilia in the Penal Code, but what's the point if nearly 60% of pedophilia offenses committed in the Church were not reported to law enforcement? The law is once again becoming a smokescreen for politicians of the ruling party. Today, the problem with combating pedophilia does not lie in the severity of punishments, but in the fact that pedophiles in cassocks do not end up in prison at all” – said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz from Civic Platform-Civic Coalition (PO-KO) during a parliamentary debate.

14:21

Gasiuk-Pihowicz:

We will protect children from paedophiles and from PiS politicians like Legutko, Piotrowicz, and Saryusz-Wolski

We will protect children from paedophiles and we will protect children from PiS politicians, such as Prof. Legutko, who says that sexual abuse against a 12-year-old boy is not paedophilia. We will have to protect children from PiS politicians like Piotrowicz, who says that touching the genitals of a several-year-old girl constitutes bioenergetic activities. We will defend children from PiS politicians like Saryusz-Wolski, who says that paedophilia is an invented problem, and we will introduce such effective protection” - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz from Civic Platform-Civic Coalition (PO-KO) during a parliamentary debate.

14:25

Ziobro to the Opposition: Your Shouting, Insults, and Abuse, Meant to Conceal Your Helplessness and Inaction, is an Effort Doomed to Failure

"Your shouting, those insults, the abuse that you want to use here to cover up your helplessness, to hide your inaction, which has accompanied your governments and actions in the fight against crime for years, is an effort doomed to failure, because Poles see the facts. They see that one must distinguish between those who shout, who have a mouth full of platitudes, and those who can demonstrate that they have taken appropriate action" - said Minister Zbigniew Ziobro during a Sejm debate.

14:31

Ziobro to the Opposition: You Could Say You Were a Pro-Pedophile Camp. You Don't Care About Children at All. You're Using These Facts to Fight the Entire Catholic Church. That's Your Goal.

Your actions have always been against. They served pedophiles. You were a party, a camp – one could say – supporting pedophiles. You couldn't care less about the victims; you held them in utter disregard. This pain, this sensitivity to children, is merely a pretense in your actions. You don't care about children at all. Children don't interest you. You are interested in political struggle. You want to exploit these outrageous, terrible, reprehensible events, which also took place within the bosom of the Catholic Church and did not receive an adequate response – and I say this as a Catholic and a person of faith. You are using these facts to fight the entire Catholic Church, to transfer these incredibly shameful events, which demand the harshest reactions, onto all priests and the entire Church. That is your goal” – said Minister Zbigniew Ziobro during a parliamentary debate.

President Duda Signs Law Expanding 500+ Benefit to First Child

- I always say, at every meeting I attend, that one of the most important goals I set for myself when running for president was to improve the quality of life for the average Polish family through the actions that, together, I deeply believed with the parliamentary majority and the government, I could lead as president. I always say that if, at the end of my presidential service, I can hear from an average Polish family that their quality of life has improved, that things are better, that they live more securely, more peacefully, that they are wealthier, that they live comfortably, then I will consider the main goal that guided me to have been achieved – stated President Andrzej Duda during the ceremony for signing the law expanding the Family 500+ program to include the first child.

- This law undoubtedly brings us closer to the realization of a goal I once set for myself and which I also strive to achieve. I am grateful that I could sign it today, that more budgetary funds will go directly to Polish families raising children. This law is an extension of the famous and excellently performing 500+ program – he added.

- If we call ourselves a European state, and we are one, if we want to follow the same direction as Western Europe, then such benefits that support families must exist, because it is the standard in Western European countries – emphasized PAD.

15:14

President Duda on 500+: 'This is not charity, it's the Polish state's participation in raising children'

- I want to emphasize. This is not charity. It is the participation of the Polish state in raising children. It is the care of the Polish state for the good national asset that are children - stated President Andrzej Duda during the ceremony of signing the act extending the "Family 500+" program to the first child.

Konfederacja Responds to Mosbacher: We Protest Foreign Government Interference in Poland's Election Campaign. We Will Act via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Election Commission
- Today, the US Ambassador directly addressed observers on Twitter, claiming that Konfederacja is misleading voters. We protest against foreign government interference in electoral matters and in Poland's election campaign. This is an absolute example of disregarding international law. As this is a scandal, we will take action on this matter. We will act via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and likely also the National Election Commission - said Marek Jakubiak in the Sejm.

Trzaskowski and Żuk in Joanna Mucha's Campaign Spot: "Should People Still Be Alone in This? Politics is Not a Battlefield or a Deal-Making Arena. It's Hours of Talking to People"

Joanna Mucha, running as the second candidate on the European Coalition list in the Lublin-Chełm constituency, has released a new campaign spot presenting her electoral creed. "Politics is not a battlefield or a deal-making arena. It's hours of talking to people" – states Mucha in a dynamic video, where she is seen meeting with voters, accompanied by the mayors of Warsaw and Lublin.

"I cook extra, I do laundry extra. I haven't wasted time on parliamentary dealings; I give it to the people who need me. Politics is a tool, not an end in itself" – says Mucha. The politician from Civic Platform also emphasizes that healthcare and cancer treatment programs are the most important for people.

Mazurek Supports Sawicki's Statement on "Anti-PiS Hysteria Pushing Everyone into One Pot": It's a Shame Kosiniak-Kamysz is Deaf to Wise Suggestions
"I will say honestly that some kind of collective anti-PiS hysteria is pushing everyone into one pot. In my opinion, this pot will not defeat PiS. If, before the European elections, you don't create two or three good lists that will be a good offer for a broader electorate, but everyone wants to fit into one pot, such a thing narrows the electorate, not expands it. This is a direct path to PiS having a few more mandates than the Civic Coalition (KE) in the European Parliament elections. Only after the defeat will the search for solutions for 'Children's Day' begin. What to do to win, not just chase" - said Marek Sawicki from the Polish People's Party (PSL) in an interview with wpolityce.pl. Archbishop Polak: Mr. Sekielski's film once again confirms that we must decisively struggle and fight to cleanse the Church of the revealed sin and crime.
- We see that the crisis we are facing today is caused primarily by the sins and crimes of pedophilia within the Church. And we see this clearly. Of course, these have not only come to light now, but I think a film like Mr. Sekielski's once again confirms that we must decisively struggle and fight to cleanse the Church of the sin and crime that are being revealed - said Archbishop Wojciech Polak in an interview with Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

Archbishop Polak: I will not comment on such statements from the ruling party leader. I don't see this hand raised against the Church.

- I will not comment on such statements from the ruling party leader. I don't see this hand raised against the Church. That is, if the Church is currently experiencing various serious, even critical, difficulties and challenges, they are meant to serve the purification of the Church – said Archbishop Wojciech Polak in an interview with Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

- That is, concerning the issue we are discussing here, namely the abuse of minors, I believe there is no such attack on the Church, because Mr. Sekielski's film was not an attack on the Church. It was a portrayal, through the testimonies of victims, which are indeed very painful, of the reality in which we, as the Church, must operate – added the Primate of Poland.

20:23

Dera:

Not Destroying the Church, But Showing Problems with Clergy Who Committed Abhorrent Crimes
- I don't view this film as any kind of fight, but rather as a study of pedophilia victims, deeply shocking to me and showing the trauma these people endure years later. I don't see it as destroying the Church, but as demonstrating that there are problems within the Church with clergy who have committed these acts. These are terrible things and abominable crimes - said presidential minister Andrzej Dera on Kropka nad I.

20:35

Dera:

Teachers and Priests Should Be Removed from Their Professions and the Priesthood. Olejnik: And a Bricklayer from His Trade!
- We are constantly focusing only on the Church, but this phenomenon is much broader and more serious. This is a fringe issue. The law exists to prosecute these individuals, regardless of whether they are priests or professors. And in the case of professions such as teacher or priest, such individuals should be expelled from the priesthood and their professions - said Andrzej Dera on Kropka nad I. - And a bricklayer from his trade! - added Olejnik. - But why are you trivializing it? - replied Dera. - No, the state is trivializing it - replied Olejnik.

20:43

Dera:

The Church Has a Problem Because It Operates in the Moral Sphere, and Those Who Commit Such Acts Greatly Conflict with the Church's Mission, Thus Causing the Church Problems
- The Church has a problem with this because it operates in the moral sphere, and individuals who commit these acts greatly conflict with the Church's mission, and for this reason, the Church has a problem. But I want to state clearly that the Episcopate has made public what the scale of the issue is – Andrzej Dera said on Kropka nad I.

Legutko on Claims Regarding Uninherited Property: It Has Been Repeatedly Said That This is Unfeasible, Impossible

When it comes to claims regarding property without heirs, there is no doubt. On the government's side, it has been repeatedly said that this is unfeasible, impossible” - said Ryszard Legutko in „Gość Wiadomości” on TVP Info - „Polish law in general does not allow for such a possibility. To do this, the law would have to be changed. For now, there is no consent for that”.

20:54

Legutko:

I spoke for 15 minutes about neglect by the Church and the state. Suddenly, I'm a defender of pedophiles. It's astonishing. There was a furious explosion of invective.

Criticism is an understatement. Some furious explosion of invective. It's absurd. I spoke for 15 minutes, and for 15 minutes in a conversation on Polish Radio, I discussed how sanctions should be tightened, how good it is that this law was created. I spoke about neglect by the Church and by the state. Suddenly, it turns out I'm a defender of pedophiles. It's astonishing. If someone doesn't understand what's being said to them, I can't do anything about it. I can only lament” – Ryszard Legutko said on “Gość Wiadomości” on TVP Info.

Stir in the Sejm: Nitras Places Children's Shoes on PiS Leader's Desk, Demanding Answers on Clerical Abuse
- Minister Ziobro said he lacks facts. He lacks facts. The report states 382 priests were involved in abuse. Two ended up in prison. So where are the other 380? Nearly 700 children, Mr. Speaker, that is a matter of conscience. A matter of conscience for all of us! These are facts! - said Sławomir Nitras, before the Speaker of the Sejm cut him off. Nitras then took out children's shoes and placed them on Jarosław Kaczyński's desk, eliciting a reaction from those seated nearby: Deputy Speaker Terlecki, Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak, and Patryk Jaki, who was standing by the government benches.

Sejm Adopts Draft Amendments to the Penal Code, Including Stricter Penalties for Pedophilia

In an evening voting session, MPs adopted the government's draft amendments to the Penal Code, which include, among other things, stricter penalties for pedophilia. The draft was supported by 263 MPs. Most opposition MPs abstained from voting by removing their ballots.

Civic Platform MPs with "Commission Immediately" and "Stop Pedophilia" Signs, Neumann on PiS Alliance with Politicizing Part of the Church [Photos]
- This law doesn't solve anything, only a state investigative commission has a chance to clarify this matter and help the Church cleanse itself - said the head of the Civic Platform (PO) club, S. Neumann. - You don't want to clarify this matter, you want to create a smokescreen and protect pedophile priests because you have an alliance with that part of the Church which engages in politics - Neumann said. When the Marshal of the Sejm turned off the microphone of the PO club leader, PO MPs - visible in the photos Cezary Tomczyk and Paweł Olszewski - took out signs with the demands written on them: "Commission Immediately" and "Stop Pedophilia". - I call on the MPs to remove these signs - reacted the Marshal. In the meantime, the Marshal conducted a vote in which the entire Sejm, except for 6 MPs, supported the government's bill.

22:22

Ziobro:

PO Consistently Voted Against Stricter Penalties for Pedophiles, Advocating for Leniency
- 40% of sentences for sexual exploitation of children in Poland are suspended sentences. Once, the mother of one of the children who was raped, after the suspended sentence, said that she almost felt raped, but by the state apparatus, and the pedophile perpetrator laughed in her face. There was an opportunity to change this penal policy when in 2007 the PiS government presented a draft of the Penal Code with a radical tightening of penalties for pedophilic offenses, giving courts and prosecutors the tools to effectively combat pedophilia. The case of a priest convicted in 2006 was also presented, but the sentence was so lenient that he was able to return to his criminal activities later, in 2012, during the PO government. We want to combine inevitability with severity. We want to give hope to victims and parents, so they can count on a sense of security, while perpetrators do not feel fear. PO consistently voted against increasing penalties for pedophiles. They advocated for solutions more lenient towards pedophiles than what we proposed, both when in government and in opposition. Platforma voted against a registry of pedophiles, and did nothing to ensure that individuals possessing credible information about a crime face consequences for not reporting it - said Zbigniew Ziobro in the Sejm, after the project was voted on and amidst turmoil involving the opposition.

22:23

Schetyna:

The Church as an institution cannot cope with this problem alone. A state commission should be established, and we will present this proposal next week.

- I want to say very clearly that the shameful style of leadership by Marshal Kuchciński, preventing questions from being asked, manipulated statements by ministers, conducting debate in a manner that is an affront to parliamentary standards and basic human decency. That is one thing. But secondly, I want to say very clearly that this law cannot be treated as something sufficient, as a sufficient response from the Polish parliament to the situation that is so dramatically revealing itself today, concerning human tragedies, pedophilia, and cases that are now coming to public awareness, to the news. We are speaking very firmly: this law is not designed to effectively combat pedophilia, because we submitted many amendments, we spoke about many things that were not included in it - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at a briefing in the Sejm.

- Today we know that the Church as an institution cannot cope with this problem alone. We believe that a state commission should be established, and we will present such a proposal next week. Only a commission, modeled after countries that have dealt with this cruel problem and the issues that have plagued the Church, such as in Ireland, Chile, or now in Germany, can effectively answer the questions that will be asked, that are asked by victims and the public. It cannot be the case that we sweep this news under the rug, that the prosecution, as Zbigniew Ziobro said today, has no facts and thus shows that it can do nothing in this matter. Actions are needed today. We are submitting this project. If PiS does not agree to its passage in this parliament, we will make it one of the first laws passed by the next parliament after the elections in October 2019 - added the PO chairman.

22:31

Ziobro:

No Leniency for Anyone, but We Won't Participate in This Farce or Spectacle Organized by the Total Opposition at the Expense of Children
- In every situation where credible information reaches the prosecutor's office that someone, having credible information, failed to fulfill their obligation to report child abuse, they will bear criminal responsibility for it, whoever they may be. There will be no leniency for anyone, but we will not participate in this farce or spectacle organized by the total opposition at the expense of children. All these cases that come to our attention of not notifying the authorities cannot be the basis for prosecutorial action, because they were not punishable at the time. You could have introduced the obligation to denounce pedophiles during your long years in power – said Zbigniew Ziobro in the Sejm.

22:33

Ziobro:

The Church Has Seen Deeds That Are a Grim Chapter, Revealing Shameful Behavior by Some Individuals. When Not Barred by Statute of Limitations, Criminal Law Should Be Applied
- The Church has seen deeds that are a grim chapter, revealing shameful behavior by some individuals. When not barred by statute of limitations, criminal law should be applied. But the opposition is not at all concerned with the victims, but with political warfare. They want to indict the entire Church for these deeds. They are not interested in the truth, only in politics. Each time, they have been against us and stood on the side of pedophiles. We will ruthlessly eradicate pedophilia, wherever it may be. From all social groups, all professions, without distinction - stated Zbigniew Ziobro.

Mazurek:
