Thursday's Political Agenda: Resumption of Talks Between Unions and Government, PM Morawiecki on Education Roundtable Details

At 10:00 AM, at the "Dialog" Social Accord Center, talks will resume between the government and protesting trade unionists from the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) and the Forum of Trade Unions (FZZ).

Teachers consistently demand a 30 percent salary increase, either with retroactive effect from January 1st or spread over two installments. Ministers have previously signed an agreement with the educational branch of Solidarity and would like ZNP and FZZ to sign the same document.

Also today, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is expected to present details regarding a roundtable discussion on the situation in education. Such a debate, involving teachers, trade unionists, social partners, and opposition representatives, is planned to take place after Easter – on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. President Andrzej Duda has expressed his readiness to make the Belweder halls available for this purpose.

It is likely that exactly 994 years ago, the first King of Poland, Bolesław I the Brave, was crowned in Gniezno.

Bodnar:

Let's Not Be Surprised Later When Students or Parents Challenge Exams Due to Improperly Staffed Examination Committees

- As a matter of principle, I do not intend [to challenge the legality of the procedure or the manner in which the final exams for junior high schools and primary schools were conducted]. I issued an opinion on this matter, which was widely commented upon. I am saying, it can be grounds for annulment. We formulated this opinion taking into account the many years of experience of the RPO [Commissioner for Human Rights] bureau, when various individuals dissatisfied with the exams, after exams themselves, for example, the matura exams, undertook various attempts to question these exams. I am not so much a Wernyhora, but rather a person who, if a legal act appears that has flaws, points out that these flaws exist, and so that we are not surprised later when some students or their parents try to challenge the exams precisely due to the improperly staffed examination committees - stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:01

Bodnar:

It's My Duty to Point Out Legal Reservations to Draft Legal Acts

No, absolutely not. I am the last person to suggest such a thing [filing applications to annul exams]. I am simply showing that there are legal arguments that can be presented, but I am not presenting them now, post factum; I presented them when that [Ministry of Education] regulation was issued, because it is my duty to point out legal reservations to such draft legal acts – stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

Dera on Teacher Negotiation Venue: 'Just a Moment, Nothing is Settled Yet'

- Just a moment, nothing is settled yet. Today we have a meeting at the Social Dialogue Council at 10:00 AM, because this is the place where disputes between the social and governmental sides should be resolved - said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the Polsat News program 'Wydarzenia i Opinie' (Events and Opinions).

08:06

Dera on Talks with Teacher Unions: I Wouldn't Rule Out the First Lady Joining These Negotiations

- This is a decision for the First Lady. I'll put it this way. I wouldn't rule out the First Lady joining these negotiations at all, because by nature, by conviction, by passion, she has always been a teacher and continues to practice this profession - said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the program „Wydarzenia i Opinie” on Polsat News.

08:06

Bodnar:

I cannot act in a way where I constantly wonder if politicians will like it

- The regulation was issued [by the Ministry of National Education] on April 2. My opinion was on April 4. This argument about a stick in the spokes only started to appear when the strike began. I have the impression that it might have been convenient for politicians to present it that way, but I would like to say one thing. If someone were to look closely, including Marshal Bielan, who also presented such formulations regarding various opinions on educational law before the Constitutional Tribunal, they would know that we are simply consistent in opining on various legal acts concerning the education system – stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- I cannot act in a way where I constantly wonder if something will appeal to politicians or not – he added.

Dera on Trump's Visit to Poland: We're Quietly Hoping, There Are Informal Signals We Can Count on This Visit
President Donald Trump has been invited to the 80th anniversary commemorations of the outbreak of World War II. We're quietly hoping, there are informal signals that we can count on this visit – said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on the Polsat News program "Events and Opinions".

08:11

Bodnar:

I Believe There Won't Be a Problem with Maturas

- I believe that, in the end, there won't be a problem with the matura exams, that these are purely theoretical deliberations at the moment. However, in principle, I believe that finishing school should be linked to the matura exam taking place and providing a pass to further career and educational development – stated Adam Bodnar in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:24

Bodnar:

Most Demands of Guardians of Disabled Individuals Not Met

- The majority of demands [from guardians of disabled individuals from a year ago] have not been met. In fact, one of the most important demands was to equalize the social pension with the minimum disability pension. That was a concrete achievement by the government. The government declared some issues, for example, the creation of a unified adjudication system. To this day, this has not been completed, although work on this matter has indeed been ongoing, but it is not apparent that it will conclude with legislation – stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:33

Mucha on Today's Talks: I'm Still Hoping for Declarations on Suspending or Withdrawing the Protest. I Hope We Are Closer to an Agreement

We are two hours before the start of talks that will be conducted by the government with trade unions, also with the participation of Minister Dera. I am still hoping for declarations regarding the suspension or perhaps withdrawal from this protest. I hope we are getting closer to an agreement, while a round table would be a broader discussion concerning issues related to the education system, and I think it would be good if this round table did not take place under such pressure of current matters – stated Paweł Mucha in an interview with Piotr Gociek on PR1's "Sygnały dnia".

Mazurek:

May 18th Convention to Summarize Our Proposals and Actions
Conventions will be held until May 18th. Obviously not now, as it's Holy Saturday. All the time will be used for these conventions. The topics will be national and European. So far, the conventions have had a guiding theme, so I assume that will also appear at the upcoming ones. The final convention will be a summary convention of what we have proposed and what we have done - Beata Mazurek said in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on the "Political Salon" of Radio Trójka.

Changes to OFE Show There Was No Money for Kaczyński's 'Five for Workers' From the Start

"These [changes to OFE] just show that there was no money for Kaczyński's 'Five for Workers' from the very beginning. The raid on OFE is something that could have been expected" - said Ryszard Petru from Teraz! in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on Radio TOK FM's Morning Show.

Petru on PiS's Electoral Proposals: "It's Impossible for Everything Promised to Be Fulfilled"

"It's impossible for everything that has been promised to be fulfilled. There is no such possibility" - said Ryszard Petru from Teraz! in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM Radio's Morning program. - "The limit that wealthy individuals should not receive 500+ represents a saving of around 5 billion zlotys. I will submit such an amendment next week. Instead of 500 zlotys per child - 250. There would be enough money for teacher raises of exactly one thousand zlotys".

PiS Submits Amendment to Supreme Court Act to Parliament

The amendment concerns regulations related to the appointment of positions in the Supreme Court, nomination proceedings for judicial positions, the lifting of judicial or prosecutorial immunity, and the jurisdiction of Supreme Court chambers. Its stated aim is to streamline procedures in these areas, according to the description on the Sejm's website. The bill itself, submitted yesterday by the PiS parliamentary club, is not yet available. Marek Ast is the representative of the initiators.

UPDATE: The bill is now available on the Sejm's website. The PiS proposal includes several points, one of which can be described as safeguard provisions (for the current government) concerning the selection of the Supreme Court President and the presidents of individual chambers. One change eliminates the quorum requirement for adopting a resolution on candidates for the First President of the Supreme Court. Another grants the President the power to appoint the President in the absence of a resolution. In the case of presidents of individual chambers, the President will be able to appoint them from among all judges of a given chamber if a resolution is not passed within a specified period.

Petru:

Just as Morawiecki indebted Poles, only Gierek has done so recently. He will go down in history as the one who brought Polish public finances to their knees.

This is the most expensive election campaign in history. Just as Morawiecki will indebt Poles, only Gierek has done so recently. There hasn't been money for the 500+ program for the first child recently, throughout the entire PiS government's years. How is it that this money suddenly appears during an economic slowdown? The money isn't there” - said Ryszard Petru from Teraz! in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on Radio TOK FM's Poranek.

We don't have a small economic miracle. We have a man who will go down in history as the one who brought Polish public finances to their knees” - he added.

08:41

Mazurek:

We are aware that the euro should be introduced in Poland sooner or later, when the level of earnings for Poles is appropriate
- We are aware that the euro should be introduced in Poland sooner or later, because treaties oblige us to do so. However, the treaties do not specify when. We say: when the level of earnings for Poles is appropriate - said Beata Mazurek in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Polskie Radio Trójka's "Political Salon".

08:44

Neumann:

Maturas Must Take Place. It Would Be Unthinkable. If the Government Won't Take Responsibility, the Opposition Must and Forge a Social Pact
"As the European Coalition, we have declared that we will fulfill the teachers' demands highlighted during the protest, and that we will implement the 1000 zloty increase when we win the elections, meaning such an increase could be realized as early as autumn. Maturas are important, they are key to this dispute. Just as the gimnazjum and eighth-grade exams took place, maturas cannot fail to take place in Poland. That would be something unthinkable. Someone must take responsibility for the situation in education. If the government doesn't, then the opposition must take responsibility and some kind of social pact must be forged" - said Sławomir Neumann, head of the Civic Platform-The Greens parliamentary club, in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM Radio's Morning program.

08:48

Neumann:

By Dismantling the Foundations of a Strong State, a Democratic Rule of Law, Poland Today Cannot Even Discuss Adopting the Euro

“By dismantling the foundations of a strong state, a democratic rule of law, Poland today cannot even discuss adopting the euro. Such artificial, substitute topics lead nowhere. There are many questions for Kaczyński, or many problems that Kaczyński should solve. Kaczyński is trying to talk about something that will not happen in Poland for the next few years,” said the head of the Civic Platform-Koalicja Obywatelska club, Sławomir Neumann, in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM Radio’s Morning Show.

Pawłowicz Bears Full Responsibility for Her Writings and Tweets. I've Spoken Personally with Mrs. Pawłowicz Several Times, and I Think Short-Term Results from These Conversations Were Visible.

- Krystyna Pawłowicz is not a member of Law and Justice, she is in the PiS parliamentary club. However, she bears full responsibility for what she writes and posts on Twitter. The majority of us have certain threads we wouldn't initiate. Her posts are very expressive – said Beata Mazurek in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Radio Three's "Political Salon".

- I have spoken personally with Mrs. Pawłowicz several times, and I think that in the short term, the effect of these conversations was visible. However, she is who she is. Everyone tweets at their own risk – Mazurek added.

09:59

Wałęsa to Teachers: Stand on Your Heads to Pay Strikers Double. Grit Your Teeth, We'll Wait for a Change of Government, Then We'll Reach an Agreement
Twice in the same way they tried to break our strike in 1980. Standing at this gate, I heard the management announce that at the moment when families gathered here to collect their pay from the shipyard workers, we would only pay those not on strike. It was a provocation similar to what's happening now. To pit us against each other, to divide us, so that our wives and mothers would pull us out of the strike. I immediately announced that we would pay the strikers double. I appointed one of the biggest activists at that time, Jacek M., and he paid out the money immediately. I suggested to the teachers that in these circumstances, you should do the same. Stand on your heads to pay the strikers double, so that this government yields like that government did – said Lech Wałęsa during a press conference. - I would do this. I would sit down at the table, see what they propose, and say: thank you very much, it's impossible to reach an agreement with you. We are leaving. Teachers, grit your teeth, we will wait for a change of government, and then there will be an agreement – added the former president.

10:09

Dworczyk:

If it must continue, let it, but we appeal for the strike to be suspended so that matriculation students can take this very important exam
We hope for a substantive discussion. We have some proposals that meet the expectations of teachers primarily, because that is extremely important, but it seems to me that the most crucial thing today is a joint stance that would involve suspending the strike. If it must continue, let it, but we appeal for the strike to be suspended so that matriculation students can take this very important exam. All of this is in the hands of the trade unionists today - stated Michał Dworczyk in a conversation with journalists.

10:15

Dworczyk Appeals to Broniarz and Schetyna: Don't Use Teachers Instrumentally and Cynically

- I must say that we observe with regret and concern the actions of some politicians and trade unionists who are trying to politicize the strike, to which teachers have the right. Therefore, an appeal to Mr. Broniarz and Mr. Schetyna not to use teachers instrumentally and cynically. Teachers who want to earn a decent living. These earnings are indeed too low. For years, salaries have been frozen. We propose an increase in salaries, striving to meet the teachers' expectations, but we must do it in such a way that, on the one hand, teachers are satisfied, and on the other hand, the state budget can withstand it. Hence our proposal for broader discussion, dialogue, and the creation of a round table. However, what we are seeing, and how some local government officials from Civic Platform, like Mr. Schetyna, PO activists, and unfortunately some trade unionists, are trying to radicalize the sentiments of some protesters, this causes objection and great concern, because children and youth preparing for their maturitas exams are suffering. We appeal to the teachers to return to the children, so that the maturitas exams can take place according to plan – stated Michał Dworczyk in a conversation with journalists.

10:17

Dworczyk:

The Government Will Do Everything to Ensure This Year's Graduates Can Continue Their Education

- I can declare: the government will do everything to ensure that every graduate this year can continue their education and enroll in higher education. However, today everything is in the hands of the teachers, hence our appeal to Mr. Broniarz and Schetyna not to instrumentalize this protest - stated Michał Dworczyk in a conversation with journalists.

Asked about the amendment to the education law, the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister replied: - The well-being of young people is at stake, who should be able to take their final exams, and hence our appeal.

11:15

Witczak:

What's Happening in Toruń is Outrageous. No Zloty for Teachers, but Nearly 150 Million for the "First Teacher of the Republic" from PiS's Perspective

- What is happening in Toruń is infuriating. It must be scandalous because we are dealing with another provocation, as this situation should be called, where there isn't a single zloty for teachers, but nearly 150 million is found for this so-called "first teacher of the Republic" from the perspective of Law and Justice - said Mariusz Witczak during a press conference in the Sejm.

11:48

Petru:

Kaczyński Announced Declaration on Euro. I Believe Poles Should First Hear a More Fundamental Declaration From Him Regarding the Security of Poland's Interests
President Jarosław Kaczyński announced a declaration regarding the euro. I believe Poles should first hear a more fundamental declaration from him concerning the security of Poland's interests. This is the declaration I sent to Jarosław Kaczyński with space for a signature. Specifically, it concerns several fundamental questions. The first is whether Jarosław Kaczyński will fully respect the results of the 2003 referendum. That was the moment when Poles decided to join the European Union. I would like to hear a commitment from Jarosław Kaczyński to respect the results of the 2003 referendum. I would also expect a declaration that no actions will be taken that weaken Poland's position in the EU. Thirdly, and most importantly, that the Law and Justice (PiS) government, nor Jarosław Kaczyński himself, will undertake any attempts to renegotiate the accession treaty concerning Poland's membership in the eurozone, nor on any other matter that undermines the very purpose of the European Union's existence – said Ryszard Petru during a press conference in the Sejm.

11:55

Dworczyk:

Youth Welfare is Paramount, Hence the Government Proposes a PLN 250 Raise for Senior Teachers from September, Assuming a 90-Minute Increase in Weekly Student Contact Time

Michał Dworczyk, a prominent figure in Polish politics, announced a new government proposal aimed at improving the conditions for educators and, by extension, the well-being of young people.

Speaking on the matter, Dworczyk stated, "The welfare of our youth is our highest priority. Therefore, the government is proposing a salary increase of 250 PLN for senior teachers, effective from September 1st."

However, this proposed raise is contingent on a specific condition. "This increase," Dworczyk clarified, "is based on the assumption of an additional 90 minutes of weekly contact time with students."

The announcement, shared via a tweet from Dworczyk's official account (https://twitter.com/michaldworczyk/status/1118815065568890880), suggests a government effort to balance increased financial incentives for teachers with a potential adjustment to their workload. The implications of this proposal for the education sector, teacher unions, and the broader discussion on educational reform in Poland are expected to be significant.

Sejm to Address Motion to Dismiss Zalewska Next Week

On Thursday, April 25th at 11:00 AM, the parliamentary committee on education, science, and youth will review the opposition's motion to express a vote of no confidence in the head of the Ministry of National Education, Anna Zalewska. The date for considering the motion in the plenary hall is not yet known – as of now, this item is not included in the current schedule for Thursday's session. If not now, then the next Sejm session will take place from May 15th to 17th. This is the last session before the European elections – unless a decision is made to convene an additional one.

12:43

Gasiuk-Pihowicz on the Supreme Court Act Amendment: Introducing Belarusian Standards. At the end of this legal chaos, there will simply be Polexit

There is no doubt that the provisions violate the standards of the Polish Constitution and the rule of law as contained in the EU treaties. This is another step towards taking Poland out of the European Union, practically removing EU standards from Poland. It is impossible today to reconcile EU standards, treaty provisions with the legal order that PiS is introducing through such changes” - said Jan Grabiec from Civic Platform (PO) at a press conference in the Sejm.

The very first analyses of this law show that at least 3 ideas violate the principles of the rule of law. This is the statutory termination of proceedings concerning the appointment of judges made by the current, politicized National Council of the Judiciary (KRS). It is granting President Andrzej Duda broader powers regarding the selection of the First President of the Supreme Court and chamber presidents. It is increasing the role of the Disciplinary Chamber controlled by Ziobro's people” - added Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz from PO-KO.

It looks a bit like the door is opening for a purge of all judges. If the current government wants to arrest judges who are not compliant with the current authorities, nothing will stand in their way anymore. These are Belarusian standards in an EU country. Introducing such Belarusian standards will only deepen the conflict with the European Union. At the end of this legal chaos, there will simply be Polexit” - emphasized Gasiuk-Pihowicz.

13:11

Dworczyk:

Today we heard that the 30% salary increase is to be divided into three tranches, while the 30% remains unchanged
- We of course accepted the invitation because, as the government, we emphasize that we are always open to dialogue and discussion, because only in this way can we reach an agreement. This is particularly important at this moment because we are in the hot period of final high school exams (matura). Fortunately, thanks to the great determination and dedication of thousands of volunteers, it was possible to conduct the exams for 8th graders and middle school students, but now it is the time for the matura exams, an extremely sensitive period - stated Michał Dworczyk at a briefing in the RDS (Social Dialogue Council). - We heard today that the trade unions' proposal has two points. The first point concerns inviting mediators to further talks. The second point concerns salary increases. The proposals so far can, in the shortest terms, be presented in such a way that the trade union centers expected a 30% salary increase. then this proposal changed, that 30% this year, in 2019, was to be divided into two tranches, 15% each. Today we heard that the same 30% is to be divided into three further tranches, while the 30% remains unchanged all the time. In short, from a fundamental point of view, no change can be seen in this. We are of course open to introducing any new experts, mediators to the talks, although we emphasize that the chairperson of the RDS plays an excellent role as a mediator, not only institutionally but also as a person who conducted these meetings perfectly. Nevertheless, in the upcoming roundtable, we are open to using all experts proposed also by the trade union centers - added the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. As he emphasized, it can be stated briefly that there is no new idea.

13:15

Szydło:

Union Proposal 'Practically the Same,' But We Want Dialogue, Especially for Maturas

- This proposal [from the trade unions] is practically the same as before. Unfortunately, their stance is very rigid, which certainly does not facilitate talks. Nevertheless, we are ready and want to remain in dialogue, we want to talk, because the most important thing now is to conduct the maturity exams (maturas) - stated Beata Szydło at a briefing in the Social Dialogue Council (RDS).

13:17

Szydło:

We've Prepared a New Proposal for Trade Unions

- We have prepared a new proposal for trade unions. This proposal is the commencement of a significant increase in teachers' salaries, which would begin next year, from September, from the new school year in 2020. I will give an example. An average of PLN 250 for a certified teacher for an increase of 90 minutes of work per week, and this pay rise program would be spread out, we assume, over two or three years - stated Beata Szydło at a briefing in the RDS (Social Dialogue Council).

- I hope, we all deeply believe, that we will reach an agreement, because that is what Polish schools need most today - emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.

13:22

Szydło:

Government Will Do Everything to Ensure Matura Exams Take Place
The government will do everything to ensure that the matura exams take place. I know that more and more teaching councils are proceeding with student classification. We sincerely thank all the principals and teaching councils that are making such decisions. I am aware that further council meetings are also scheduled for the week after the holidays. We earnestly ask and appeal to teachers for these matura exams to proceed peacefully – stated Beata Szydło at a briefing at the RDS.

13:25

Dworczyk:

We Wanted to Appeal Again to Broniarz and Schetyna Not to Inflame Tensions Among Striking Teachers and Not to Exploit the Situation

- We are also receiving disturbing signals, which is why we wanted to appeal again to Chairman Broniarz and Chairman Schetyna not to further inflame tensions among some striking teachers and not to exploit this situation. We know that in some local governments, local politicians are indeed exacerbating the situation, and here we are truly appealing for the well-being of the youth to be taken into consideration above all else at this moment, so that the strike is at least suspended during the maturita exams. If it must continue, we respect that, of course, let it continue, but for the duration of the maturita exams, we very much ask, we appeal for this form of protest to be suspended - stated Michał Dworczyk at a briefing in the RDS.

13:31

Gardias:

No Agreement Reached

- On the seventh day of negotiations, no agreement was reached between the trade union and government sides - stated Dorota Gardias at a briefing at the RDS.

13:33

Czarzasty on PiS's Euro Declaration: "Kaczyński Invented This Topic, Just Like He Invented Three-Year-Old, Masturbating Children Two Months Ago"

"Mr. Kaczyński invented this euro topic just as he invented three-year-old, masturbating children two or three months ago. This is an escape from the topic of teachers, from current issues. The euro must come to Poland," said the leader of the SLD, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, in an interview with Agnieszka Burzyńska for "Fakt Opinie".

13:35

Broniarz:

We are to consult with our colleagues on the government's proposal because the Prime Minister expects a different reaction from the community. We will promptly undertake these consultations.
Today, as an Easter gift, the Prime Minister [Szydło], in an effort to de-escalate the conflict with teachers, proposed an increase in teaching hours by two hours from September next year and a compensation of approximately 125 PLN net for a certified teacher. The proposal submitted in writing by the trade union centers to the government, which concerned the phased implementation of the projected salary increase in 2019 by 30%, taking into account what the government has already proposed and based on 2018 figures, was rejected by the government. We are to go to our colleagues with this information, asking for consultations regarding the government's proposal, because the Prime Minister expects that the community might react differently than the union leadership. Therefore, I assure the Prime Minister that we will promptly undertake such appropriate consultations – stated Sławomir Broniarz at a briefing at the RDS.

13:40

Wittkowicz:

We Have No Grounds to Consider Changing the Protest and Strike Action Formula

- We currently have no grounds to consider changing the formula of protest and strike action - stated Sławomir Wittkowicz at a briefing at the RDS.

13:44

Broniarz:

I Appeal to the Government Side to Avoid Discrediting Partners and Constantly Referring to My Alleged Contacts with Schetyna

- I have an appeal to the government side, because we will surely sit at the negotiating table again more than once, for us to try to avoid discrediting our partner and constantly referring to my alleged contacts with Grzegorz Schetyna. Progress is such that we are no longer an appendage of the SLD, but now of Civic Platform, because this is not only testing the partner, but it is simply rude and untrue. Even more so because we should refer to substantive issues, bearing in mind that perhaps it will be necessary to sit down at the negotiating table with this partner again - stated Sławomir Broniarz at a briefing at the RDS.

17:15

Educational Roundtable Scheduled for Next Friday at the National Stadium

As 300POLITYKA has learned, the first session of the so-called educational roundtable is planned for next Friday, April 26th, at 12:00 PM. The venue for these discussions will be the National Stadium. This information will be officially announced shortly by Prime Minister Morawiecki at a press conference. Official invitations are expected to be sent out tomorrow.

Biedroń is among the politicians most distant from me. But attacking him by invoking alleged violence from 20 years ago against his closest person is, even by Polish politics standards, exceptionally disgusting

PMM:

Educational Round Table in Four Areas: Students, Teachers, Quality of Education, Modern School
  • We are initially proposing that the educational round table be structured around four basic areas. The first is students. The second, teachers. The third area is the quality of education, the quality of learning. The fourth, we've conventionally named the modern school. I would like everyone to be a winner as a result of this round table – said Mateusz Morawiecki during a press conference in Krakow.
  • We cordially invite you for next Friday, April 26th, at 12 PM. We invite you to the National Stadium, because we expect a large turnout – added the Prime Minister.

17:51

PM:

I Would Like to Appeal for Pedagogical Councils to Classify Graduates for Matura Exams
- I would like to ask, to appeal for pedagogical councils to classify graduates for the Matura exams, because it is a very important moment ahead of them. My fervent request is also not to overexert the stress that students already have - said Mateusz Morawiecki during a press conference in Krakow.

17:55

Szydło:

This is a great test for us on whether we can reach an agreement. Let's not mix politics into education

- I think that for all of us, especially for adults, this is a great test of whether we can reach an agreement, whether we can put political disputes aside. Let's not mix politics into education. Let's sit down at the table and talk - said Beata Szydło during a press conference in Krakow.

19:56

Miller:

The Round Table Maneuver Seems Like Another Attempt to Prolong the Conflict

- The Social Dialogue Council was established precisely to resolve problems within its forum. One should not multiply entities beyond what is strictly necessary. The maneuver with this round table seems like another attempt to prolong this conflict, to play for time in the hope that public support for teachers will decline - said Leszek Miller in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program “Wydarzenia i Opinie” on Polsat News.

20:02

Miller:

Gilowska Said Poland Would Join the Eurozone in 2012. Then-Prime Minister Kaczyński Didn't Protest
When I hear today that Jarosław Kaczyński feels such aversion, such disgust towards the euro, his deputy prime minister, minister of finance, the unfortunately deceased Zyta Gilowska, had a plan to join the euro. She said that in 2009 Poland would meet the convergence criteria, and in 2012 Poland would join the eurozone. Then Mr. Prime Minister Kaczyński did not protest – said Leszek Miller in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program 'Wydarzenia i Opinie' on Polsat News.

20:06

Miller:

Rulewski's Club Includes Former PZPR Members. So What? They Didn't Bother Him Before? Now Zemke is a Problem? There's Clearly More to This

- There are people with a past in the PZPR within Mr. Rulewski's club. So what? They didn't bother him until now? Now Mr. Zemke has become a problem? There's clearly a hidden agenda here. I suspect Mr. Rulewski might be disappointed by something and decided to demonstrate it this way - Leszek Miller said in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" on Polsat News.

20:10

Broniarz:

Today, Prime Minister Szydło's stance indicates the government is more interested in confrontation than de-escalation
The ball is in the government's court, and I share Prime Minister Miller's opinion that the government manages finances and can attempt to resolve this conflict. However, today Prime Minister Szydło's stance suggests the government is more interested in confrontation than de-escalation – said Sławomir Broniarz in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program “Wydarzenia i Opinie” (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

Broniarz on Whether He Will Participate in the Roundtable: Yes, but I Think the National Stadium Formula Evokes Many Emotions

- Yes, but I think the National Stadium formula evokes many emotions. I share Mr. Miller's opinion that the Social Dialogue Council is a fantastic place. It is a legally established body - said Sławomir Broniarz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

Hofman on Tusk: He says this to Schetyna: 'Very well with this coalition.' But in reality, he is very pleased because internally it's viewed poorly. PO is buzzing because many seats had to be given up to coalition partners.

- It's not his game yet, he's waiting to see what happens. He says this to Schetyna: 'Very well with this coalition, you've done a great job with this unification.' But in reality, he is very pleased, because internally within Civic Platform, it's viewed very negatively. Platforma is buzzing, boiling, because many seats had to be given up to coalition partners, and it's unclear if it will yield results - said Adam Hofman in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program 'Wydarzenia i Opinie' (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

Kukiz:

Please, for just two days during the holidays, let's all forget about politics

- Above all, I would like to extend my warmest, truly heartfelt wishes for joyful, serene, and merry Easter holidays, filled with love, family, and hope. For them to be filled with love, I beg you, for just two days during these holidays, let's all forget about politics, about the existence of political parties, Kukiz and all the rest, etc. Let's love each other, rejoice, and be together, regardless of our worldviews - stated Paweł Kukiz in an interview with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".

20:57

Kukiz:

Teachers Allowed Themselves to Be Dominated by a Group Unwilling to Negotiate

- I believe that the form of the strike and the fact that teachers allowed the strike to be politicized, to be seized by one union, which is by no means acting primarily for the benefit of teachers or students, but is carrying out a certain kind of political mission, is simply so evident that any denial would be a lie - stated Paweł Kukiz in a conversation with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".

- Teachers allowed themselves to be dominated by such a group, which is unwilling to enter into any negotiations, which came with one banner, one slogan, right before the elections, incidentally. PLN 1000. Making Mr. Broniarz the face of the strike is like making Mr. Kijowski the face of defending democracy, let's call it that, or the democratic system. It's roughly the same analogy - he added.

Kukiz:

Teachers Made a Mistake by Letting Themselves Be Convinced That Demands Can Only Be Made on the Government During Exam Periods
I believe that the teachers made a mistake by letting themselves be convinced that only in such a situation, only during the exam period, can anything be demanded from the government - stated Paweł Kukiz in a conversation with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości". - There is no option to suddenly raise the salary of one entire professional group by 1/3. I have not encountered [such a case] in history - he added.

21:11

Kukiz:

We Should Firmly Oppose the Introduction of the Euro in Poland
We should firmly oppose the possibility of introducing the euro in Poland. Perhaps we should start with that. That is the most important matter. I said I would sign [the declaration proposed by Jarosław Kaczyński]. I still have hope, because I haven't had the opportunity to meet the chairman face-to-face. I believe that, after all, a draft resolution, which Kukiz'15 submitted on March 1, 2018, would be better for us, for Poland, than a declaration - stated Paweł Kukiz in an interview with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".
