Also today in Warsaw, celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) will occur, with the participation of, among others, former Prime Ministers Cimoszewicz, Miller, and Belka, former SLD leaders, Speakers of the Sejm, ministers, MPs, and senators from the SLD. At 12:45 PM in Warsaw, Ryszard Petru will hold a press briefing regarding proposals to end the teachers' strike and the signature collection for a bill repealing the retail ban.

Bielan:

I Don't Believe Any Politician Will Actually Cause Exams to Be Cancelled. I Think Schetyna and Broniarz Will Back Down.

- I don't believe any politician will actually cause the high school exit exams to be cancelled. I think Mr. Schetyna and Mr. Broniarz will back down. He is a friend [Schetyna] and almost Mr. Broniarz's superior. I think Mr. Broniarz consults him on all more serious decisions - stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM. He added:

"No [I'm not exaggerating], I see how they have been cooperating closely for several years. I've seen them shoulder-to-shoulder at demonstrations against the government. I've often seen Mr. Broniarz leaving the Civic Platform headquarters and I know how Mr. Broniarz behaved, for example, during the three years of Civic Platform rule when teachers' salaries were frozen. If we have a significant problem with teachers' salaries today, and I admit this problem exists, then these are the omissions of the government of Grzegorz Schetyna, who froze teachers' salaries for three years between 2012 and 2015, and today we have to make up for lost ground."

09:50

Bielan:

Broniarz Dreams of Civic Platform Returning to Power

- The Ombudsman echoed what the ZNP [Polish Teachers' Union] said last week, or the past week, that exams that have already been conducted can be questioned. This is a monstrosity. If we subjected children to such immense stress and uncertainty regarding whether these exams would take place or not, and we conducted these exams. It was possible thanks to the great commitment of teachers and superintendents. And today, to utter words that these exams can be questioned. Truly, one must have no imagination about what those students who have just passed such exams, their parents, their grandparents, feel and think - stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM. He added:

"I don't know if a mediator is needed. What is needed is real good will from the trade unionists. What is needed is for politicians from the European Coalition not to interfere in this process. I think we are capable of reaching an agreement. Educational Solidarity itself admits that it received more from the government in the framework of these negotiations than it expected. Educational Solidarity did not count on receiving a three-hundred-zloty childcare supplement, and the government has proposed such a supplement."

- I don't know. Mr. Broniarz dreams of Civic Platform returning to power. For me, that is obvious - emphasized the Deputy Speaker of the Senate.

09:58

Bielan:

The Most Likely Scenario is Reconstruction After the Elections. But I Reserve the Right to Say These are PM's Decisions
I believe that the most likely scenario – but I reserve the right to say that these are ultimately the Prime Minister's decisions – is a reconstruction after the elections. The Prime Minister always assesses the work of individual ministries on an ongoing basis. If, on any given day, he decides that the time is right, he can do it – stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM. – We leave him full autonomy in this matter – declared the Deputy Marshal of the Senate.

Schetyna Poses 5 Questions to Kaczynski:

If Not Now, Then You'll Answer to an Independent Prosecutor After the Elections.
I want to [give Jarosław Kaczynski] here, if you'll allow me. I have a real 'five' for him, a 'five' for Jarosław Kaczynski, which he should answer. First, what else needs to happen to replace the Minister of Education? Don't you have anyone better than Anna Zalewska? Please answer this question. If there's no one better, it means you must leave immediately. Second, when will you start treating teachers with dignity? When will your shameful propaganda machine, especially TVP, to which you've already given over 2 billion PLN from taxpayers' pockets, stop attacking them? Third, is the collapse of the defense industry and the downfall of the Polish army not a sufficient reason for the Minister of Defense to resign? Does it really have to be that if it's not Macierewicz, then it's Błaszczak? If you have no one better, then leave, because Poland cannot afford such weakness today. Fourth, how do you intend to hold your deputy, PiS Vice-Chairman Antoni Macierewicz, accountable for the Smolensk investigation, and when will you apologize to the nation for the years in which you lied about an assassination attempt? And fifth, do you accept the words of Grzegorz Bierecki, a PiS senator, that you will cleanse Poland of people considered unworthy by you? And if not, will you have the courage to disavow this shameful statement, on the verge of fascism, and remove Bierecki from the party? This question is for you, Mr. Kaczynski – stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the European Coalition convention in Rzeszów. - But there is one more question, a 'plus' to this 'five', which they use very often. I wanted to ask Chairman Kaczynski, what happened to the envelope from the Austrian businessman? Will you finally answer this? Because if you don't answer, if not now, then you will answer to an independent prosecutor after the elections. I promise you this – he added.

10:52

Schetyna:

Kaczyński, Surrounded by Sycophants, Is Out of Touch with Reality. It's a Truism; Everyone Knows It, Which is Why We'll Ask Him Such Questions and Expect Answers.

- President Kaczyński, surrounded by sycophants, is out of touch with reality. It's a truism; everyone knows it, which is why we will ask him such questions and expect answers. Because Poland needs a breath of fresh air. Increasingly, even those who once voted for PiS are saying this. We need to end the republic of cronies, to bring order to this chaos. To put things right side up. To let those who know how to work do so. We will do this. That is why we are going into these elections. We want a normal, European state. We say very clearly and plainly: this is a great choice, because it concerns Poland's future, our children's future, and I believe that in May we will take the first step to choose this future for Poland, and that is why we will win - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the European Coalition convention in Rzeszów.

10:59

Schetyna:

Zalewska is the Worst Minister of Education in History

- Today, it must be said directly: Anna Zalewska is the worst minister of education in history. That is the truth. None of us remember such chaos. If not for the local governments and their dedication, it would have ended in a total, complete catastrophe. This isn't just about the strike itself. Anyone with children in school knows how much mess there is on a daily basis, knows about the overloaded and hastily written curricula, about the youth from the double-year cohort, the majority of whom have no chance of realizing their dreams of attending their chosen school, and about the fact that PiS is shifting the costs of education onto local governments - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the European Coalition convention in Rzeszów.

11:04

Dorota Stalińska Supports Bartoszewski:

Let's Go to the Polls and Vote for a Competent and Decent Person.

- If you are thinking about the future of Poland, if you are thinking about a good life for yourselves, your children, and grandchildren, go to the polls and cast an appropriate vote. For the first time in history, five former Prime Ministers of Poland are running for the European Parliament. This is a great opportunity to rebuild Poland's good image in the eyes of Europe and the world, an image that has unfortunately been so damaged recently by the current government. I deeply believe that all former prime ministers will obtain a mandate, but there are many more seats in the EP. It is very important that alongside them, people will sit in those benches whom we will not have to be ashamed of. Wise, educated, competent, and decent people. Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski is exactly such a person. The son of an outstanding Pole, Professor Bartoszewski, who, as you remember, always repeated. It is worth being decent. So let's go to the polls and vote for a competent and decent person - says Dorota Stalińska in a clip published on social media by the PSL candidate in the EP elections.

11:10

WKK:

Beyond Electoral Victory, We Will Do Something More Important. We Will Restore Brotherhood, Solidarity, and Justice to Poland and Poles
"Today, a Senator of the Republic of Poland speaks of cleansing Poland of individuals unworthy of the national community. We do not consent to this. Beyond electoral victory, we will do something even more important. We will restore brotherhood, solidarity, and justice to Poland and Poles" - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at the European Coalition convention in Rzeszów.

11:18

WKK:

European Elections are Actually the First Round of Parliamentary Elections
'By winning the European elections, which are in fact the first round of parliamentary elections, by winning the European and parliamentary elections together, and forming a government – because that is our very important goal – we will restore community within volunteer fire brigades, rural women's circles, and regardless of whether someone registers with the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation or is part of another association, they will have the chance to receive support. An end to divisions in Poland, an end to divisions among Poles, an end to the division of rural women's circles, OSP (Volunteer Fire Brigades), firefighters, and the firefighter community into better and worse. We will restore unity, because unity in diversity is possible and will prevail in the European elections' - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at the European Coalition convention in Rzeszów.

11:22

WKK:

The Prime Minister Should Immediately Go to the Protesting Teachers

- Today, it is the teachers who need this support, those who carry the torch of education. They receive it from us, but they must feel this support from everyone. And the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland should immediately go to the striking, protesting teachers who want to talk. He should engage in talks and, before the Easter holidays, end the strike with an agreement and respond to the demands of the trade unions, because they are entirely justified. Not hide and not promise a round table. Mr. Prime Minister Morawiecki, you need to sit down at the table and negotiate with the trade unions – stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at the European Coalition convention in Rzeszów.

11:46

Kaczyński Throws the Euro into the Campaign Arena:

We Mean European Wages, Not European Prices.
Let's ask if the euro serves various European countries well. This topic will certainly be developed here, but I can say this: yes, it serves Germany, it serves the Netherlands, perhaps we can add Austria to that, maybe one or two other countries, or even Belgium, but others, even large and strong countries like France, lose out on the euro, and others are simply falling into ruin. Greece is the best example here. The euro is good for those who are very strong, efficient. Even countries with well-developed economies like Finland are losing out on it. Will the Polish economy gain from it? Very, very doubtful. But there is also a second question. This question relates to whether Polish households will gain from it, or to put it simply: will Poles' pockets gain from it? Will they be diminished, reduced once again. I mean the content of household budgets. Well, yes. Regardless of the mechanism for adopting the euro, because there can be various mechanisms here, exchange rates of the zloty for the euro, we will lose out in one way or another. There will be another shock, and Poles, especially the middle and older generations of Poles, have already experienced more than one such shock. Is the euro therefore necessary for us? Will it accelerate our development, will it lead to us catching up with countries west of our borders in terms of our economy, our individual prosperity? No. Therefore, we repeat this "no." We say: no to the euro, no to European prices. We say: European wages, not European prices. And we have the support of the majority of Poles here - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Lublin.

11:51

Kaczyński on the Euro: Our Election Victory Will Guarantee Rational Action in Our Interests
I can say with full responsibility: our victory in these upcoming elections, in the parliamentary elections this autumn, will be a guarantee that we will act rationally in this matter and in accordance with our interests. Do Germany defend its interests in the EU, even then. If it is in clear contradiction with the interests of others, let's take Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 – a clear breach of European solidarity. They defend, they carry out these plans, against the will of others. Does the Netherlands defend its interests, does Austria defend its interests, does Spain defend its interests, even though it adopted the euro and is paying dearly for it today? Yes, they do. And we will also defend our interests, the interests of our citizens - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Lublin.

11:55

Kaczyński:

We'll Eventually Adopt the Euro Due to Our Obligation, But Only When It Serves Our Interests, Reaching a Level Close to Germany's
- The Accession Treaty obliges us to adopt the euro. But it does not set a deadline. And therefore, one can say this: we will eventually adopt the euro because we have such an obligation. And we are and will remain in the EU. But we will adopt it when it is in our interest, and it will be in our interest when we reach a level at least very close to Germany's. The level of GDP, the standard of living. This is the defense of our interests and our sacred duty to society, to the nation - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Lublin. - This is the fundamental difference. Another fundamental difference, but one that excellently illustrates this overall difference I spoke about. This attitude towards society and the nation. This is a very important matter, but it is part of the most important matter. To serve Poland, the Polish nation - added the PiS chairman.

PM:

Our Political Competitors Want to Introduce the Euro as Quickly as Possible
Our political competitors, Platforma, meaning the European Coalition, want to introduce the euro as quickly as possible. And we are showing that, in accordance with both theory and the practice we have experienced, with our experience, it is not beneficial for us, especially today, to adopt the euro currency and it is beneficial to base our economy on the Polish currency, the Polish zloty - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Lublin.

12:31

Schetyna:

Mr. Kaczyński, it's the same old record, frightening and dividing Poles. It's not working. Time to go.

The Civic Platform (PO) leader, Grzegorz Schetyna, is responding on Twitter to Jarosław Kaczyński's speech at a regional PiS convention today.

S&P's Rating Maintenance Confirms the Strength of Our Economy

- Yesterday's confirmation of our rating by the Standard & Poor's agency, which doesn't exactly, you know, particularly love us, because they already downgraded our rating in January 2016, yet yesterday, by incorporating these 40 billion PLN from our 'five' into their macroeconomic models, they maintained our rating. This confirms [the] strength of our economy - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Lublin.

12:36

PMM:

We Want European Salaries, Not European Prices

- We primarily want European salaries, not European prices. The way to achieve this is precisely by maintaining the Polish zloty - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Lublin.

Scheuring-Wielgus:

I'm Fed Up with Politicians Kneeling Before the Altar and Telling Us What to Do. I Want a Gay Couple Holding Hands in Paris or Amsterdam to Be Able to Do So in Gniezno and Rzeszów Too.
- I'm fed up with politicians who kneel before the altar and tell us what to do. I want a gay couple holding hands in Paris or Amsterdam to be able to do so in Gniezno and Rzeszów too. I don't want people with disabilities to have to complain about Poland in Brussels. I want victims of sexual crimes to feel supported and helped by the state. I will do everything so that the victims of pedophile priests finally regain their dignity and receive compensation - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus at the Spring convention.

Adopting the Euro in the Near Future is Not in Poland's Interest

- Today I can say with full responsibility: adopting this currency [the euro] in the near future is not in Poland's interest - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Lublin.

12:46

PMM:

We Stand Before a Great Opportunity
We stand before a great opportunity, the fulfillment of which was the dream of our great compatriots and also of every ordinary Polish family. And today, with the Polish zloty, a strong Polish economy, a cohesive Polish nation, and with patriotism, we will seize this opportunity. We will not squander it – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Lublin.

13:19

Biedroń:

They did everything to make us stop trusting them. Expensive watches, or magazines, hundreds of thousands for Russologists and Misiewiczes. Had enough? So have I!
- Who would give a bank card to Kaczyński? No, because he doesn't even know how to operate it. And to Grzegorz Schetyna? Not him either. Because almost no one trusts these gentlemen. They did everything to make us stop trusting them. Expensive watches, or magazines, hundreds of thousands for Russologists and Misiewiczes. Had enough? So have I! - said Robert Biedroń at the Wiosna convention.

13:20

Biedroń:

While They Squabble, Polish Parents Have No Chance of Finding a Kindergarten Spot, and Polish Seniors No Chance of Seeing a Specialist This Year! The Old Parties Have Failed Us
- While they squabble, Polish parents have no chance of finding a kindergarten spot, and Polish seniors have no chance of seeing a specialist this year! The old parties have failed us and are proving they cannot be trusted, preoccupied with themselves and the conflict they have fed on for years. The state treats politicians and priests well, but not entrepreneurs. For years, we had no one to vote for. No more lukewarm approaches, finally change, and finally spring – said Robert Biedroń at the Spring convention.

13:21

Biedroń:

Politicians Divide Us Because It Pays Off. A Divided Society Is Easier to Manipulate
- Politicians divide us because it pays off. A divided society is easier to manipulate. Their dispute is not a dispute over programs, but about access to an ATM. That's what the budget has become for parties - said Robert Biedroń.

13:21

Biedroń:

PO Claims to Stand with Women, But Says It's Not the Time Yet. After the Elections, We'll Hear Again That It's Not the Time. The Fight for Women's Rights Will Wait, Because We Need to Fight PiS
- PO claims to stand with women, but says it's not the time yet. But after the elections, we'll hear again that it's not the time. The fight for women's rights will wait, because we need to fight PiS. The President of Gniezno from PO is banning the equality parade. It's time for a change! Enough of this, we must rebuild the community, enough of saying: wait. Enough waiting! - Biedroń said.

13:22

Biedroń:

Women Are the Majority of Our Society, Yet They Are Treated as a Minority
- Women constitute the majority of our society, yet they are treated as a minority. Women deserve European standards, equal pay for the same positions, places in kindergartens for their children, and access to abortion up to the 12th week. End the hell for women! Wiosna will not be intimidated by politicians who say it's not time yet! - said Robert Biedroń, while the hall chanted "secular state".

13:23

Biedroń:

We Won't Back Down. Perhaps the Civic Platform Finally Needs Courage. The State Tribunal Must Function, and We Will Have the Courage
- Mr. Chairman Kaczyński, we're coming for you! Articles 115, 181, 231, 232, 296 of the Constitution. And to you specifically, I dedicate Article 18 of the Penal Code to read. Before bed, after the rodeo! We won't back down. Perhaps the Civic Platform finally needs courage. The State Tribunal must finally function, and we will have the courage. Based on our old acquaintance, I can promise Mr. Chairman Kaczyński that no politician will interfere in the work of the police and courts anymore. We will do it, we will restore constitutional order, and Spring will bring that - said Robert Biedroń at a convention in Warsaw.

"Włodzimierz the Unifier": SLD Celebrates 20th Anniversary
20 years of SLD. Great victories, the EU, also the Constitution, Aleksander Kwaśniewski's signature on the NATO agreement. There were also several mistakes that led to our current absence from the Sejm, but there are also 24,000 people in SLD. These are structures in 340 counties, 4 prime ministers, and a president for two terms. There is also the future, which we will realize in the upcoming elections within the European Coalition. I, and the party I represent, are thinking about the future, but history truly gives us great strength every day. Things have been different, but I know one thing. When all those standing here stand together, there was strength. We know now that together we can do more. We are currently pursuing a policy where we apologize to those who deserve it, those we have wronged, and we invite back those who left for other reasons. The history is varied, but I know one thing. The Polish left needs unity on many issues. I will always strive for this - stated Włodzimierz Czarzasty at a briefing on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of SLD. The leader of SLD managed to "unite" important SLD politicians. Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, Leszek Miller, Marek Borowski, Maria Oleksy, and Małgorzata Sekuła-Szmajdzińska appeared at the celebrations. Wojciech Olejniczak sent a letter, and Marek Belka sent greetings from his location as he is campaigning. One of the alliance's important politicians even speaks of "Włodzimierz the Unifier." https://twitter.com/sldpoland/status/1117058868876587013?s=21&fbclid=IwAR0AQ2cCuRw8RB_Yzz7EzbokQ2xnuVxFrVygP2jQx51wysysUgleng0AHio

Miller:

The History of the Republic of Poland After 1989 Cannot Be Separated from the History of the SLD

- If today we hear that the European Coalition is a strange creation, where nothing fits anything else, I wanted to remind everyone that such a civic coalition has existed before. During the accession referendum. When a great civic movement was formed, whose goal and desire was to bring Poland into the EU. At that time, many pro-European political parties and many social organizations and associations did a lot to achieve this beautiful goal. In those days, in 2003, 13.5 million Polish women and men said "yes" to Europe, and Europe said "yes" to us - stated Leszek Miller at a briefing on the occasion of the SLD's 20th anniversary. He added:

"Today, as we head into the European Parliament elections within a broad European coalition, it is worth remembering that we have already undertaken such a successful experiment. We are convinced that it will be successful this time too. On May 26th, we will have the greatest satisfaction from the fact that the European Coalition will win more seats than our greatest political rival, opponent, that finally, after years of PiS supremacy, the pro-European, modern, progressive, and enlightened force will win the elections in Poland and defeat the forces of darkness."

- The history of the Republic of Poland after 1989 cannot be separated from the history of the SLD. These two histories have become intertwined, and the people of the SLD have left a wonderful stamp of their presence on Polish reality. All the fundamental reforms that have taken place in Poland were with the participation or involvement of the SLD, and in the process of joining the EU, their participation was decisive. We have great reasons for satisfaction, but also for sadness, because, as in life, sometimes the sun shines, and sometimes it rains. But with this baggage of successes and failures, the new SLD, which is taking shape before our eyes, will move forward - he emphasized.

19:08

Szymański:

We Must Do Everything Possible to Avoid a No-Deal Brexit – A Chaotic, Crisis-Ridden Brexit Without a Legal Framework
We recognize that everything possible must be done to avoid a no-deal Brexit. A chaotic, crisis-ridden Brexit without a legal framework. The agreement that has been negotiated with the EU is good, balanced, and protects the rights of citizens, the financial interests of the EU, and the budget. This is also important for us. And perhaps most importantly, which is often overlooked, it provides an opportunity for changes in trade relations to occur smoothly and calmly. A no-deal Brexit means a sudden rupture of trade relations, and this must be avoided, because the eventual collapse of this agreement would also mean enormous political and economic costs. Therefore, during the summit, Prime Minister Morawiecki was one of those who most vociferously called for proceeding cautiously, understanding the irritation and the fact that it is taking too long. We cannot afford to have the EU's position dictated by emotions or other political stances not directly related to Brexit. We must keep the door ajar so that this agreement can finally be adopted by the British Parliament, or perhaps so that the general stance on Brexit in Great Britain changes, either in relation to the customs union or the single market, to be a little more engaged. This would be in Poland's interest, but also in the EU's interest, if Brexit, if it must happen, proceeds in a manner that is as controlled as possible – stated Konrad Szymański in the program "Horyzont" on TVN24.

19:12

Szymański:

Poland's Stance on Brexit is Now Shared by the Vast Majority of Member States

- One thing can be said with absolute certainty. Poland's stance on Brexit, or rather its evolution towards the conviction that a no-deal Brexit must be avoided, is today the stance of the vast majority of member states, and that is positive news – stated Konrad Szymański on TVN24's program "Horyzont".

19:23

Szymański:

Poland is Not the Source of Any European Crises
It is clear that Poland is not the source of any European crises. On the contrary, we are trying to find solutions constructively, of course, taking into account that we have been in the EU for 15 years, we expect that Polish positions and interests will be taken into consideration - stated Konrad Szymański in the TVN24 program “Horyzont”.
