Saturday's Political Doubleheader: PiS and KOD Conventions

At 12:00 PM in Katowice, the Law and Justice (PiS) party will hold its regional convention, featuring PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Later, at 2:15 PM, the head of the Polish government will visit the Ferrum S.A. production facility in Katowice.

At 1:00 PM in Warsaw, the Committee for the Defence of Democracy (KOD) will host its convention, where KOD will present its stance on participation in the European Parliament elections. During the event, KOD will unveil its new, refreshed visual identity.

The convention will be attended by leaders of KOD and parties within the European Coalition – including Grzegorz Schetyna, Katarzyna Lubnauer, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and Krzysztof Łoziński. The convention will conclude with a joint statement and a press briefing by representatives of KOD and the European Coalition.

Kaczyński:

I Must Thank the Warsaw Vice-President for His Honesty, He Made Things Clear. It's Not About Tolerance, It's About Affirming Same-Sex Unions. It's About Them Having the Right to Adopt Children.
I had hoped that within these 7 days that have passed since that meeting [the last PiS convention], we would hear some specifics from the other side, from our opponents. Concrete proposals, even an outline of some program. But we continue to have only a particular kind of ideology. I thanked them for their honesty 7 days ago. Today, I must again thank the President, the Vice-President of Warsaw, for his honesty, who simply made things clear. It's not about tolerance; it's about affirming same-sex unions, the marriages of these unions. It's about them having the right to adopt children. Well, we want to say clearly: here we say no, especially when it comes to children. Keep away from our children! – stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:27

Kaczyński:

Our plan, our program is to achieve a European standard of living in the heart of Europe. A European standard of living for Poles.

- We need to ask once again, what is our goal? What is our goal in the context of these elections, the European elections? Here is the heart. The heart in the middle of Europe. Because Poland is the heart of Europe, and our plan, our program is to achieve a European standard of living in the heart of Europe. A European standard of living for Poles. That is our European identity – stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

Kaczyński:

We've Completed the First Stage of Necessary Changes. The Second Stage Lies Ahead, Centered on PiS's 'Five'

- We have met this condition. We have also, one might say, honestly carried out the first stage of necessary changes. But not only in the sphere of finances and state reorganization, where there is still a long way to go in certain matters, but also in the social sphere, the welfare sphere, and above all, the societal sphere. Because this concerns the shape of our society. 500+ is a symbol, pensions are a symbol, but we also had minimum wage increases, minimum hourly rates, and various other social measures that would be difficult to list here. And we also had the mechanism we announced. That is, that we would strive for wage increases through administrative methods connected with the law, specifically the minimum wage, tax reductions in many cases, but also by ensuring that unemployment falls and the labor market becomes an employer's market. And indeed, this is the case. One can say we have accomplished this task. Now, the second stage lies ahead. In the second stage, the PiS 'Five' is at the center – stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:35

Kaczyński:

We Bow Our Heads to the Hard Work of Miners

- I want to say that I bow my head to the hard work of miners, smelters, laborers, and those in other plants. We all, I hope all of us, bow our heads. Because I repeat: it is hard, dangerous, often with not the highest salary. This is also the Silesian heritage, which must be remembered - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:37

Kaczyński:

There Is No Alternative to the EU

- We know where Poland is, in what part of Europe and the world. We know that a lot follows from this. We know that our membership in the EU follows from this. It is the choice of the vast majority of Poles. They want this. But let's be clear: there is no other alternative, no other possibility. We are in the EU, but if I speak in these terms, one must also ask why we are in the EU. Only because we have to be? No, we are in the EU precisely to implement this program. So that there is a European standard of living in the heart of Europe. And that is what we will strive for in the EU. This is very often a matter of moderation and reason – stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:41

Kaczyński on EP Elections: I am convinced we will be a large group. We are convinced we will also be in a large group. In one group, not three or even four, like those opting for the so-called European Coalition

- We must strive for Polish interests, and now the question is whether we will be able to do so? Yes, I am convinced we will be a large group. We are convinced we will also be in a large group. In one group, not three or even four, like those opting for the EP from the so-called European Coalition. For this reason alone, it is worth voting for us. We will not scatter. We will advocate for Poland - said Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:45

Kaczyński:

Elections aren't won by polls. They are won through hard work

- The recent polls, the ones I heard about today, are good. But remember: elections aren't won by polls, these elections aren't won by sociologists, with all due respect to them, of course. Elections are won through hard work. This kind of Silesian, tough, decisive, unambiguous work, with a clear goal. This is the work that awaits us. And not just the candidates, their immediate circle, but our entire formation, the party, the coalition. We must do one thing firmly in this election campaign, because that's enough, but it's an extremely important task. Namely, to reach our compatriots with our project, our grand project for Poland. Because that's where things are varied. Very many of them still don't know this project. They see the arguments, the various disputes that happen every day, for example on television. But they don't see the essence. And it's not their fault. If it doesn't reach the people, then we must blame ourselves. And in this campaign, we must convey this project of ours for Poland to the Poles, because then we will win. That is certain - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:47

Kaczyński:

The Stakes of These Elections Are the Future of Our Nation
The stakes of these elections are the future of our nation. Because on one hand, there is this project, which I've briefly discussed here, and on the other hand, there is an ideological concept that will destroy the very foundations of Polishness, Polish culture, just as it destroys the foundations of European culture. And there will be a return to what was. That is, an empty state treasury, an empty cash register, to put it simply. Nothing will be enough, the prime minister, whoever he might be, will be announcing further austerity measures. We will be dealing with a rollback, let there be no doubt, not only of what we are announcing and will do in the coming months, but also of what we have already done. We must defend Poland from this. And we will defend it - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at the PiS convention in Katowice.

PMM:

We Must Show Tremendous Discipline, Mobilization, and Self-Sacrifice to Win the EP Elections

- The Silesian land, the people from this land are very resilient, hardworking people, truly guided by an ethos of work, patriotism, and the people from this land truly know how to win. Do you remember our recent victory at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, how many medals did we win? Five medals. But I don't know if you know that 3 out of those 5 people came precisely from the Silesian Voivodeship. Bravo to them. They showed resilience. They showed how to win, how to triumph. And we, in our efforts and endeavors, must also show tremendous discipline, mobilization, and self-sacrifice in order to win these EP elections - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Katowice.

12:56

PMM:

Silesia Can and Must Be Poland's and Europe's Silicon Valley

- The Silesian Voivodeship is once again the engine of economic growth. It is again the engine of growth for all of Poland. Silesia can and must be Poland's and Europe's Silicon Valley - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Katowice.

13:05

PMM:

One of the KE Candidates Once Said Poland's Transformation Would Be Easier Without Industrial Regions Like Silesia. That Philosophy is Alien to Us.
Our predecessors, one of the candidates today competing against us from the European Coalition, once said that Poland's transformation would have been much easier if not for such legacies, such industrial regions as Silesia. That is a philosophy that is absolutely alien to us. We view economic development completely differently - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Katowice.

13:12

PM:

We are the Heart of Europe and We Protect Poland's Interests, Which Simultaneously Serves the Interests of All of Europe. We Need a Technological Race, Not a Race in Ideological Novelties.
I believe that our team going to the European Parliament must be super professional. I know that our MEPs, I hope they will be elected, as many as possible, like Jadwiga Wiśniewska, Grzegorz Tobiszowski, Izabela Kloc, all of them will ensure that Polish interests are guarded, not disregarded. This story, ladies and gentlemen, about Poland, which can break free from the shackles of impossibility, is being realized before our eyes. A story about Poland, which on the one hand respects the work of miners, and industry, which after transformations is also our hope for the future, and on the other hand respects family, social matters, tradition, culture, history, and patriotism – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Katowice. Today, we must enter Europe by showing that Poland is the heart of Europe. We are the heart of Europe and we protect Poland's interests, but at the same time, we also protect the interests of all of Europe. This is the kind of race we need. We need a technological race, not a race in ideological novelties – added PM.

PMM:

We Stand for Freedom, Democracy, the Ordinary Person. And That's Our Program, That's What It's For. So that a Strong Poland Becomes One of the Pillars of a Stronger, Increasingly Influential Europe and EU
Poland can be even stronger, and this depends primarily on our will. On the strength of will. On whether we find within ourselves that extra spark of mobilization. That need to push forward. Because we stand for freedom, democracy, the ordinary person. And that is our program, that's what it's for. So that a strong Poland becomes one of the pillars of a stronger, increasingly influential Europe and EU. Silesia is needed by Poland. The entire Silesian Voivodeship is needed by Poland. Poland is needed by your wonderful voivodeship. It is needed by your land. Likewise, Poland is needed by Europe, and Europe, the EU, is also needed by Poland, because here, in these EU realities, we will best be able to realize our interests and aspirations. For everyone and for victory. So that Poland in the coming decade achieves the standard of living we are aiming for. The standard of living of the richer and the richest countries in the EU – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the PiS convention in Katowice.

Schetyna at KOD Convention: Only Together Can We Win

- It is your steadfastness, conviction, great mobilization, this deep belief that we must speak the truth very firmly, together, right now, because after the 2015 elections, and it was freezing, snowing, raining, or sunny, we were always together. I want to say this very clearly: we will remember this. We thank KOD - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the KOD convention. He added:

"These thanks and this history, which we will certainly recall, must lead to something. Elections were mentioned here, and what lies ahead. In the electoral marathon that has already begun with the local elections, but soon, at the end of May, the European Parliament elections, then parliamentary elections in October, and finally presidential elections in April. All of this will show whether we are capable of changing Poland through mobilization, shared conviction, joint work, and solidarity. Whether we are ready for it. I believe so. Our common answer today must be affirmative. We must tell ourselves: only together can we win, only together can we realize your, our common dreams. Those shouted out at many demonstrations. A united opposition – be together, because only together can you win. Today we are together.”

- I have a great and heartfelt request. That this electoral and integration process, which we are continuously undergoing within the European Coalition, building a common program, but also inviting this extra-parliamentary opposition, all of you, people who support us so much and are aware of the situation, to be together, to seek agreement, to be able to find it. This is a great test for all of us today. We must draw this great lesson from Polish history. Only together can people with different views, but who are patriots, who love democracy, respect the Constitution, and know that our common dream of many generations is Poland's place in Europe, in Western civilization, can these people be together today and for the coming months. Because together, jointly, means victory. And today I wish you this. Satisfaction from the hard work you have done over 3.5 years. I wish you satisfaction at the end of May, in October, and in April. Together we will win all these elections - concluded the PO leader.
