Monday's Political Agenda: President Duda in Szczecin, Dulkiewicz Sworn In, Biedroń Launches Salary Transparency Initiative

At 11:00 AM, President Andrzej Duda will visit the Headquarters of the Multinational Corps – Northeast in Szczecin.

Also at 11:00 AM, Confederation politicians will hold a conference on Poland's 15 years in the European Union. Half an hour later, Members of Parliament from Nowoczesna will speak at the Sejm desks, responding to Saturday's statements by PiS politicians regarding sexual minorities.

At 12:00 PM, a session of the Gdańsk City Council will take place, during which the new Mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, will be sworn in. She emerged victorious in the early elections in the first round, securing 82.22% of the votes.

At 2:00 PM, Robert Biedroń is scheduled to launch the "Spring Cleaning" initiative at a press conference. The aim of this campaign is to investigate salaries within state institutions.

Dworczyk:

PiS Aims to Defend Polish Families and Children

- The Law and Justice party, as explicitly stated by its leader Jarosław Kaczyński last Saturday, aims to defend the family and defend Polish children. This has been a core element of our political formation's policy for years, a programmatic element known for a long time - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Piotr Gociek on "Sygnały Dnia" (Signals of the Day) on Polish Radio Channel One.

- We will unequivocally oppose any attempts to introduce content into schools that is inconsistent with the curriculum approved by the Ministry of National Education - Dworczyk added.

Dworczyk on Government Changes After European Elections: Decisions Not Yet Made – Will Reconstruction Happen After or Before the EP Elections?

- To my knowledge, there is still some discussion, some conversation going on right now. The Prime Minister mentioned it in recent days, that these decisions have not yet been made – whether this reconstruction will happen after the European Parliament elections, or perhaps even before them. Let's wait, decisions will be made on this matter in the coming days – said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Piotr Goczek on Polskie Radio Jedynka's "Sygnały Dnia".

Scheuring-Wielgus:

I Never Publicly Stated I Would Run for the EP. I Said I Was Considering It, Like Anyone Else

- I wasn't in Warsaw for some time, and everything is happening a bit behind my back. What I can say is that I never aspired to it, I never publicly stated that I would run for the EP. I said I was considering it, like anyone else. Robert Biedroń and I have known each other for years, I value Robert greatly, I strongly support him. He is a fighter, I like that very much, and I hope that Biedroń's Spring will be strong enough that in the final outcome, i.e., in the parliamentary elections, PiS will not be in power. I always believe in Biedroń, I always have believed in him. We've known each other for years. I believe in anyone who has the power to break the PiS and PO duopoly - stated Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

07:55

Scheuring-Wielgus:

I Didn't Pursue the European Coalition

- The European Coalition began to court me in a way. I didn't go after the European Coalition. Secondly, I started hearing in the media, in radio interviews, that I am a problem or that I am controversial because I met with the Pope and I am fighting against pedophilia in the Polish Church. I don't want to be a problem for anyone. What's more, I'll tell you honestly that, of course, I also talked with people from the coalition, because I like to talk and I believe these conversations sometimes make sense and bring something, but I am surprised that, for example, after the words of PSL leader Kosiniak-Kamysz, who said that PiS, PO, and PSL share the same values, no one from, for instance, Civic Platform denied it. Because, for example, I have completely different values than PiS - stated Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

Scheuring-Wielgus Announces Her Conference for Today
"The decision is always mine, and today at 10:00 AM, I am holding a press conference in the Sejm, so I will explain everything in detail. Today, around 10:00 AM, I will say more," stated Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego."

07:58

Scheuring-Wielgus:

I'm Surprised Some Politicians in the European Coalition See it as a Problem That I Stand with the Victims
- I don't like certain gestures directed at me. I am generally surprised that there are politicians in the European Coalition for whom it is a problem that I stand with the victims. For me, this is completely incomprehensible - stated Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:02

Tyszka:

Kukiz May Present Our EP Candidates This Week

- Paweł Kukiz may present our candidates this week. Most likely this week, please note that no party has yet presented full lists - said Stanisław Tyszka in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

- This is not what is most important to us right now. Programmatic work is more important to us. Cooperation with the Five Star Movement. Perhaps another meeting will take place this week. This time in Croatia - Tyszka added.

08:03

Scheuring-Wielgus:

Schetyna, Lubnauer, and Kosiniak-Kamysz Built Nothing from Scratch. They Always Took Over.

- Neither Grzegorz Schetyna, nor Katarzyna Lubnauer, nor Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz built anything from scratch. They always took over. One needs to have the courage to do so. And all these people you mentioned, like Palikot, Petru, or now Robert Biedroń, have the courage to do it. I appreciate that very much - stated Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- Robert Biedroń represents the generation from which I come. A generation of people who are not from the "Warsaw salons," but who based their professional and political careers on experience from non-governmental organizations. We are different - she added.

Tyszka on LGBT+: President Trzaskowski Clearly Went Too Far
This is a typical diversionary tactic in our public debate. Political parties like PiS and Platforma, they really like to bring up topics like civil unions, in vitro, and LGBT. President Trzaskowski clearly went too far. However, as long as this doesn't translate into actions, for example, educational programs, which would be an absolute scandal, and then I believe decisive action must be taken against President Trzaskowski – said Stanisław Tyszka in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Graffiti".

08:24

Brudziński:

As a Member of Parliament, I am fully satisfied with my income. Sometimes, I accept with great shame the laments of some of my colleagues who whine about earning little.

"As a Member of Parliament, I am fully satisfied with my income. Sometimes, I accept with great shame the laments of some of my colleagues who, somewhere in corners, whine about earning little. Let them meet people whose incomes are at the level of 2,000, below 2,000, and only then shed tears" - said Minister Joachim Brudziński in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

08:29

Brudziński:

If I Win an EP Seat, It Won't Be to Chase a Bitch for a Euro to Brussels. I Want to Use This Time to Be an Even More Effective Politician

If I win this mandate, it won't be to – excuse my language – chase a bitch for a euro to Brussels. I apologize, there's such a saying. So-called 'dietary MEPs' who do everything to stuff their pockets. I want to use this time to be an even more effective politician and lobby for Polish interests even more effectively” – said Minister Joachim Brudziński in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

Karczewski on Ministers' Move to the European Parliament: 'It Won't Be a Reconstruction, It Will Be a Supplementation'

- It won't be a reconstruction, it will be a supplementation. Reconstruction happens when something is going on… It's not a reconstruction, it's just a change of ministers. If they get [to the EP], then of course [it will happen]. Of course we have [candidates to replace the ministers] – stated Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Marcin Wikło on TVP1's 'Kwadrans polityczny' (Political Quarter Hour).

08:35

Karczewski:

I Didn't Expect Such a Strong Reaction When I Sent This Tweet
I didn't expect it to stir up such big emotions. Clearly, the topic stirs up emotions. Not my tweet itself, but the [LGBT] topic stirs up emotions. When I wrote this tweet, when I sent it, I didn't expect such a strong reaction and a reaction showing such a deep division among Poles. It's an important, significant topic, as the reaction after our convention showed – stated Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Marcin Wikło on TVP1's "Political Fifteen Minutes". https://twitter.com/StKarczewski/status/1104621361601921024

09:18

Brudziński:

I'm the Last Person Who'd Want to Scare Anyone with Gay People

I'm the last person who would want to scare anyone with gay people. I know at least a few. They are very nice, polite, and cultured individuals. Why would I want to scare anyone with them?” - stated Minister Joachim Brudziński in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

I don't recall any speech in which anyone from my party's leadership committed such abominations, meaning scaring citizens with other citizens,” he added.

Szefernaker on the LGBT+ Charter Debate: Ideological Disputes Imposed by PO and Other Parties are Not Good in an Election Campaign, But One Must Clearly Take a Side. We Did.
There will probably be many topics [for the European Parliament campaign]. I believe that ideological disputes, which are being imposed by PO and other parties, are not good disputes during an election campaign, but one must clearly take a side in such disputes. We did that on Saturday. Poles cannot put ideology into a pot and cook soup from it" - said Deputy Minister Paweł Szefernaker on Polish Radio 24.

Brudziński on Twitter Explains Remarks About a 'Bitch Chased to Brussels for One Euro': My Friend's Dog Gave Birth at Night. My Thoughts Were With Him

Józef Brudziński, a Member of the European Parliament and former Minister of the Interior, explained his controversial statement about a "bitch chased to Brussels for one euro" on Twitter. He claims his words were misinterpreted and were related to the birth of his friend's dog.

"I was thinking about my friend whose dog, a bitch, gave birth at night, and I sent him a message. She was running around, 'chased' around the yard and the doghouse, as dogs sometimes do, and I sent him a message about it, that a dog ran after the bitch and it gave birth. This is a literal interpretation of events," Brudziński wrote.

He added that he was inspired by a dog that was "chased" by another dog and ended up giving birth. He also emphasized that he was thinking about his friend during this time.

His original statement, made during a debate on the future of the European Union, sparked outrage and criticism. Critics accused him of using misogynistic language and demeaning women. The tweet can be found at: https://twitter.com/jbrudzinski/status/1105027065676525569

PO:

Is Jakub K., who hung MEPs' portraits on gallows, still employed at the Katowice court? We demand explanations

- According to information presented by the media, one of the active individuals participating in this disgraceful event in Katowice was an assistant to a judge in the district court in Gliwice, and then was on delegation at the Ministry of Justice and was among the people who provided substantive support for the so-called Patryk Jaki commission. This information is so outrageous that the very fact should have been clarified by ministry employees, management, and we expected Minister Ziobro, who is so eager for media appearances, to clearly and plainly explain how Mr. Jakub ended up at the Ministry of Justice. But another, very important piece of information emerges. Apparently, Jakub K., despite the Ministry of Justice being aware of his active participation in hanging MEPs on gallows in Katowice, still holds the position of a judge's assistant. Allegedly, he is employed at the court of appeal in Katowice, which is located behind us. For this reason, together with MP Wójcik, we have submitted an intervention to the president of the court of appeal requesting an answer to the following questions: is it true that Jakub K. is an employee of this court, is it true that he holds the function of a judge's assistant? In the opinion of the president, does a person about whom the media report that they committed such disgraceful acts in November 2017 meet the prerequisite of impeccable character, as mentioned in the act on the organization of common courts, which is required of judges' assistants. If it is true that Jakub K. is still an employee of the court, what steps does the president of the court of appeal in Katowice intend to take as the person who performs functions and activities related to employment law towards judges' assistants. We expect President Mazur to respond quickly to this information - stated Borys Budka at a briefing in Katowice.

10:32

Scheuring-Wielgus:

If Fighting for the Dignity of Victims of Clerical Abuse is a Burden for the European Coalition, I Don't Want to Be Part of Such a Group. I Will Not Run on the EC's List.

- Firstly, last week I heard that I am a problem for the European Coalition. Ladies and gentlemen, I do not want to be a problem for anyone, especially when we talk about Poland's significance in the EU. Secondly, I will never give up my values and the goals I intend to pursue. If fighting for the dignity of individuals who have been raped and molested by priests is a burden for the European Coalition, if meeting Pope Francis in the Vatican is a burden for the EC, then ladies and gentlemen, I do not want to be part of such a group. My values and the commitments I make to those I fight for will always matter to me. Thirdly and finally, I would like to announce that I will not be running on the European Coalition's list, and I will keep you informed about all my other plans - Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus said during a press conference in the Sejm.

10:34

Kidawa-Błońska:

I suspect the lists will be presented by the end of this week
Jarosław Kaczyński has certainly shown that there is full determination on the PiS side. The recent period has not been good for this camp, because all the scandals related to the Srebrna affair, what is happening around it, does not evoke a good atmosphere - stated Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in an interview with Marek Kacprzak on the WP program "Tłit". Even this package of five proposals, the so-called Kaczyński's Five, or PiS's Five, does not take up as much space in the media as PiS would like - added the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm.
"I have the impression that PiS will go all out in these elections. They will not adhere to any rules of the game, it will be an all-out fight for PiS, which is why the elections are so important, not to succumb to emotions, to this 'biting the grass,' but to maintain common sense. To talk about substance and about what these solutions will bring and what kind of Poland we will be in some time from now."
- I suspect that the [European Coalition] lists will be presented by the end of this week - she emphasized.

Sasin on Sunday Trading Ban: "We are analyzing the matter"

- We are analyzing the matter. There are very diverse voices on this, and we need to see what the real impact on the trade situation looks like. In politics, it's never the case that a solution once adopted cannot be changed if it turns out not to meet expectations. For now, there are no decisions. The factual state is being established - stated Jacek Sasin in an interview with Marek Kacprzak on WP's program "Tłit", when asked about changes to the law on the Sunday trading ban.

Scheuring-Wielgus to Kaczyński: If Family is So Important, Where is Yours?
Law and Justice announced on Saturday, through the words of MP Pawłowicz, that a war is beginning. A war against an environment that is excluded and attacked in Poland. I do not consent to this. Jarosław Kaczyński announced on Saturday that family is the most important. So, my question, from me as a mother: Mr. Jarosław, where is your family, if this family is so important? - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus during a press conference in the Sejm.

President Duda: Joining NATO Signified the Ultimate Confirmation of Poland's Sovereignty and Independence

- I won't hesitate to say that generations of Poles, since the end of World War II, waited for this moment. For this moment, one could say, many also gave their lives. Joining the North Atlantic Alliance signified the ultimate confirmation of Poland's sovereignty and independence. It confirmed our exit from the Russian sphere of influence and our entry into the geopolitical circles of the West – said President Andrzej Duda during his visit to the Headquarters of the Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin.

12:31

Dworczyk:

I hope Trzaskowski will withdraw from the signed declaration, as even people from his political camp are unequivocally criticizing this decision

PiS politicians continue to raise the issue of the LGBT declaration for another day. Beata Mazurek appeals to Civic Platform (PO) to "stop beating around the bush" [idiomatic expression meaning to not change one's mind or position], and Michał Dworczyk expresses hope that the mayor will withdraw, especially since even individuals from his political camp are unequivocally criticizing this decision.

Dulkiewicz is Officially the Mayor of Gdańsk:

It’s a great responsibility, but I know I’m not alone. We have an ally above who will watch over us and support us in our work.

In my oath of office, I said: ‘I will perform the office entrusted to me for the public good and the prosperity of Gdańsk.’ These words encompass the trust of the residents, the voters, the women and men of Gdańsk, which I have experienced, as well as the premise of my care for Gdańsk, its residents, and the diligence in harmonious cooperation of all people and institutions, entities for the efficient functioning of the city, and care for the common good. I feel the weight of these words and I wish to fulfill them to the best of my ability. This is a very solemn moment for me,” said the Mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, after her inauguration.

I am filled with many emotions. I feel great respect for the tradition into which I am stepping. It creates a great obligation towards the women and men of Gdańsk – all those who believed that I would be able to shoulder this duty. At the same time, I experience sadness, because the mourning for our president, Paweł Adamowicz, has not yet subsided. I know that many of you also carry this grief in your hearts. This is an irreplaceable loss, but I know that we have an ally above, in heaven, who will watch over us and support our work for Gdańsk. It’s a great responsibility, but I know that I am not alone” – she added.

Kopacz Appeals to Kaczyński: Please Don't Use Children as Campaign Shields
Mr. Kaczyński, who stood up in defense of Polish children, forgot that Polish children needed defending when his minister changed the price of a life-saving drug from 3.20 zł to 900 zł. I am referring to children undergoing transplants. A drug that saves lives. Mr. Kaczyński also forgot that the former head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration prohibited the separate recording of crimes against children in statistics. Mr. Kaczyński also forgot that his leading politicians defended pedophilia, rather than standing with victimized children. I want to appeal to Mr. Kaczyński and say: Mr. Kaczyński, this is Ewa Kopacz, speaking to you as a pediatrician and a mother. Please do not use children as shields in this campaign. Please do not use children in this campaign as a panacea for your problems - stated Ewa Kopacz at a briefing in the Sejm.

President Dulkiewicz Buying Alcohol in a Store? Is There a Ban on Such Purchases? I See No Problem. It's a Private Matter, Not Official. Leave It Alone!

The President's Office responded to the media's interest in the president of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, purchasing alcohol in a store. The tweet from the President's Twitter account states: "President Dulkiewicz bought alcohol in a store? And what, is there a ban on making such purchases? I don't see any problem here. It's a private matter, not an official one. Give it a rest!"

The statement refers to a situation where the president of Gdańsk was seen buying alcohol in a store. The President's Office emphasizes that this is a personal matter and not an official act that warrants public attention or commentary.

SLD Presents Its Own Housing Program - "Simply Housing"

We will allocate 40 billion PLN for 800,000 people, regardless of whether they are in a relationship or not, whether they are married or not, whether they are young or not. Although such proposals are mainly directed at the younger generation. How would the "Simply Housing" program work? The State Treasury would provide 800,000 people with a 50,000 PLN non-repayable housing deposit, which is the 20% down payment required by banks or cooperatives. Let's imagine what would happen then. Using these 40 billion PLN in this way is a prelude to investments that will reach the level of 200 billion PLN within 4-5 years, and which will be allocated to housing construction. And 200 billion PLN is half of our country's budget” - SLD quotes its leader, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, on its website.

BAS Urgently Opinions Bill on Filling EP Seats in Case of Brexit; Sejm Begins Work

On Thursday at 11:00 AM, a meeting of the extraordinary parliamentary committee for reviewing electoral law bills is scheduled, during which the first reading of the bill proposed by PiS regarding the filling of European Parliament seats in the event of Brexit will take place. The bill was urgently opined on by the Bureau of Analysis and Expertise (BAS) today.

It is not yet known whether the ruling party will seek to pass the bill this week; Thursday's committee date does not indicate this. The PiS proposal concerns the introduction of a solution whereby, among the candidates of a committee that has been allocated a seat corresponding to the 52nd electoral quotient, the candidate considered by the legislator to be least legitimized to take the seat is the one who received the fewest votes.

Biedroń:

We're Starting to Clean Up Government Offices This Spring. The Action Begins at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. We'll Submit Requests Regarding Salaries to All Offices Nationwide.

- We're starting to clean up government offices this spring, just as we clean our homes, backyards, streets, and cities. We, as Spring, are starting to clean up government offices - said Robert Biedroń during a press conference.

- Today, we are commencing our action at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, in the Registry Office. We will submit a request under the freedom of information act, concerning questions related to salaries at the Chancellery. We want to ask how much officials at the Chancellery earn. In this symbolic way, we will submit such requests to all offices across Poland. Marshal's offices, provincial offices, and municipal offices - added the leader of Spring.

Full European Parliament Lists in a Few Days. We Had a Good Meeting with Scheuring-Wielgus. I'm Keeping My Fingers Crossed for a Good Decision
- Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus met with me last Friday. We had a very good meeting. She is facing a serious decision regarding her political and public activities. We talked, and I know she is still in a rather stable relationship with Teraz! and Ryszard Petru, which I understand. I know myself that such separations are very difficult, but I am waiting for this decision. It must be a serious, mature decision. Joining Wiosna involves a serious declaration - said Robert Biedroń during a press conference. - If Joanna decides to join, it will be a lasting relationship. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a good decision, because Joanna will bring spring to Wiosna and will bring values that are already in Wiosna and that are very close to her - assured the leader of Wiosna. - Full lists in a few days. We are working on them, and we also had a good meeting with our structures over the weekend. As you know, we already have over ten thousand people in our structures, so we worked hard on the lists this weekend. There are no squabbles within our party, there are decisions at every level - added Biedroń.

Kopcińska:

Any reasonable politician would react to Trzaskowski's proposal as President Kaczyński did

Children are and should be protected by adults. We cannot play with children, we cannot exploit children for any disputes – political, ideological. Our task is to protect children and the Polish family, and we are doing that. Any reasonable politician would react to President Trzaskowski's proposal in the same way President Kaczyński did. One cannot educate through ideology. Parents are primarily responsible for educating” – said government spokesperson Joanna Kopcińska in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski in „Wydarzenia i opinie” on Polsat News.

19:48

Kopcińska:

Trzaskowski Wants to Conduct an Experiment on Children in Warsaw

President Trzaskowski wants to conduct an experiment on children in Warsaw. Parents are not agreeing to this. We listen to these parents. You cannot impose such ideologies or experiments in any way, because it is the parent who decides” - said the government spokesperson, Joanna Kopcińska, in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on „Wydarzenia i opinie” on Polsat News.

Mikołaj Pawlak: Trzaskowski's Declaration is Not a Legal Act. I Appeal for a Meeting
President Trzaskowski's declaration is not a legal act. I don't know under what procedure it was established or signed. We only know the outcome. Besides, it is characterized by a high degree of generality, from which, fortunately, the President has already begun to retract today. I appeal to the President for a meeting. I hope such a meeting will take place. We don't necessarily have to exchange only documents, which he is of course expecting. The issue is to clarify the procedure for local governments, because local government in the Polish education system has no influence on the content being conveyed – said Mikołaj Pawlak in an interview with Edyta Lewandowska on TVP Info's program "Gość Wiadomości".

20:29

Mikołaj Pawlak: Trzaskowski's Declaration Itself Carries Very Positive Aspects. However, Regarding Sexuality, It is Primarily Left to Parental Will and the Education System
The declaration itself, signed by President Trzaskowski, carries very positive aspects that should also be supported. Introducing tolerance, respecting other people. These are universal values that should be supported. However, regarding sexuality, regarding the content that we, as parents, as an ombudsman, should have influence over its analysis and when it will be introduced, this is primarily left to parental will and the education system – said Mikołaj Pawlak in an interview with Edyta Lewandowska on the TVP Info program "Gość Wiadomości".
