The Polish Teachers' Union is expected to announce the date of a nationwide strike today. The press conference is scheduled for 14:00. President Andrzej Duda will inaugurate the celebrations of Poland's twentieth anniversary of NATO membership in Żagań. He will then visit Bolesławiec, where he will meet with residents at 16:30.

- Tomorrow it will be possible to talk about a concrete roadmap, meaning the presentation of the implementation of these individual proposals - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on "Sygnały Dnia" on Polish Radio One.

- Appropriate laws will be adopted this year that will decide on this. These laws will be passed even before the parliamentary elections, so that we can tell Poles that this is not a set of future promises, but very concrete things that we want to implement within this term - Sasin added.

- We do not foresee any amendments to the budget act. According to preliminary estimates from the Ministry of Finance, funding for the implementation of these proposals may be achieved through budget reallocations, and this is likely how it will indeed be handled. There is no question of us raising budget deficit forecasts - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on Radio Jedynka's "Sygnały Dnia".

- I must say that we have a certain problem with the Polish Teachers' Union, which stems from the fact, and this is somewhat objective, that it is a union that also has its political connotations. After all, we remember that the ZNP ran in the parliamentary elections aligned with the SLD. Chairman Broniarz himself has not hidden his political views in the past - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on Polskie Radio Programu 1's "Sygnały Dnia".

• This is the PiS 'Five-Point Plan'. Naturally, Chairman Kaczyński, as the leader of our party, is the face of this plan. There is nothing to suggest that any slowdown or economic cycle will occur this year that could change anything in this area. In politics, in an election year, everything has an electoral context. That's clear. - I don't know anything about [ministers running for the EP] receiving any suggestions [regarding leave]. Each minister will make those decisions individually. But we know that some ministers have such plans. When asked if a government reshuffle is planned only for the post-election period, the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister replied: - To my knowledge, yes, but these are decisions of the Prime Minister and the political leadership.

- Minister Szczerski's words are not only scandalous, they are simply destructive. Today, we also want to recall the words of Ms. Beata Mazurek, who once advised single mothers to stabilize their family situation and have more children. How little empathy one must have, how much contempt for another human being, to utter words like Minister Szczerski or Ms. Mazurek. Today, we are filing a request to President Duda, based on the Rules of Procedure of the Chancellery of the Sejm and the Constitution, for the immediate dismissal of Mr. Minister Szczerski. Minister Szczerski is a minister in the Chancellery of the President, he is the head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland. If he is not immediately dismissed, it means that President Andrzej Duda approves of such opinions that refer to entire professional groups and are exclusionary towards millions of people in our country - said Cezary Tomczyk during a press conference in the Sejm.

- Today, the Polish People's Party (PSL) is submitting the "People's Social Package" to the Sejm. This is a bill that addresses the most important social needs, which President Kaczyński and the Law and Justice party (PiS) have completely forgotten about. We are talking about the need to increase teacher salaries by PLN 1000, regardless of their academic or professional degree - stated Krzysztof Paszyk during a press conference in the Sejm.

- In this project, we also specify and guarantee an additional PLN 500 benefit for every child, regardless of whether they are the first child or in which family they were born - Paszyk assured.

- In our package, we also guarantee an additional PLN 1000 per month for every disabled child in Polish families. Our bill also clearly guarantees a PLN 500 benefit for the rehabilitation of disabled adults - the PSL MP continued.

I said that I would like the presence of NATO, units from various countries, in the territory of Poland to become a fact. President Andrzej Duda began NATO Week, the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, with a meeting with soldiers of the 11th Armoured Cavalry Division and the American Armoured Brigade Combat Team, which is training at the Żagań training ground.

The President received a report from the Commander of the 11th ACCD, Major General Stanisław Czosnek, and laid a wreath at the monument of Major General Stanisław Maczek. A static-dynamic demonstration of troops and discussions with soldiers, followed by a joint lunch, are planned at the training ground.

• Will Gdańsk finally break with the non-transparent, completely outdated way of conducting relations with businesses, especially developers? Will residents finally have access to all information regarding these interests?


• Will the process of politicization of Gdańsk's local government be halted, manifesting itself, among other things, in the financing from public funds of initiatives with a clearly political, society-dividing character?

The Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) proposes that a nationwide strike commence on April 8, 2019, and continue until further notice. Now, teachers themselves will have to confirm the date and the decision to protest in a referendum. 

The plebiscite in individual schools must conclude before March 25th. ZNP has also stated the question that teachers will have to answer:

“Given that the demand for a 1000 PLN increase in basic salaries for teachers, educators, other pedagogical staff, and non-teaching staff, with backdating to January 1, 2019, has not been met, are you in favour of conducting a strike in the school, starting from April 8th of this year?”

By this time, ZNP expects negotiations with the government. Should these negotiations fail, the administration of exams concluding primary and middle school would be jeopardized. According to the schedule of the Central Examination Commission, eighth-graders are set to take their test on April 15th, 16th, and 17th, while middle school graduates will take theirs on April 10th, 11th, and 12th.

"Looking at the polls, at the feedback from my colleagues - teachers and non-teaching staff - we are talking today about the start date of the strike. No one is indicating an end date for it," said the head of ZNP, Sławomir Broniarz. "*However it may sound and however those who want to label us, to give us a Gombrowicz-esque persona, might exploit it, it is indeed in the interest of the child, the student, because they, along with the teacher, are the salt of education.*"

The teachers' demands remain unchanged. They are demanding a gross salary increase of 1000 PLN from the government, with backdating to January 1, 2019. The salary increase would also apply to non-teaching staff. "*We are obligated to notify the head of the workplace five days before the commencement of the strike. We are saying this today, over a month before this event. In our opinion, this is a sufficiently long period for principals to prepare for it,*" Broniarz added.

- Teachers certainly also benefit from other programs we are proposing. Those who have children will certainly gain from this, while teachers are getting a raise, they will get it in September. I think a general solution for the public sector is also ahead of us. So all of this, I believe, will calm the tension that has arisen here. I hope that teachers will not undertake any actions that would harm the students entrusted to them - stated Ryszard Terlecki at a press conference.

- For me, the most beautiful moment to end my presidency will be when I hear from an ordinary, average Polish family: 'Yes, our lives are better than when you started.' That is enough for me, and beyond that, let the various important and great people on television say whatever they want about me. It is enough for me if I can hear that from an ordinary Pole – said President Andrzej Duda during a meeting with residents of Bolesławiec County. 

The President himself spoke on this matter, directly stating that the statement was unfortunate. However, such statements or verbal slips happen to all of us. We don't fully realize the context of this statement, and I think everyone who listened to the radio broadcast understood that the conversation had a broader nature – said Paweł Mucha in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

- This is also a question for ZNP today. Will this context, related to the ongoing election campaign period, because we are in an election campaign for the European Parliament, serve to politicize these talks? Secondly, are the demands presented in a zero-one fashion, with a lack of agreement, even feasible to meet? And finally, in my opinion, the most important question that needs to be answered. Asked what she would say today to the late President Adamowicz, she replied: "Boss, you set the bar high. I will try to reach it."

"The legacy of Mr. President is primarily the continuation of his thoughts; June 4th and the great celebration of freedom and solidarity will certainly be such a legacy, where it will necessarily be a celebration dedicated to Paweł Adamowicz and the questions he also posed about local government, about Gdańsk, about Poland, about our condition as a society" - said Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, the president-elect of Gdańsk, in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" on TVN24. "Certainly, Donald Tusk is keenly interested in the 30th anniversary commemorations of June 4th, I know he wants to actively participate in these commemorations. We are in constant contact, discussing how to prepare these commemorations together so that they are truly a celebration of citizens" - she added.

“Striving for the truth [regarding Father Jankowski] would certainly be extremely advisable, but that requires multiple parties. As for the monument itself – we will uphold the law. Both those who toppled the monument and those who erected it in violation of regulations should face consequences. My personal opinion is that today there is no place in Gdańsk's public space for Father Jankowski's monument. I would prefer this decision to be made through dialogue, through a reasonable, wise dialogue, which is why in the coming days I will speak with the head of the Gdańsk region of NSZZ "Solidarność" about how this monument can be moved to another location in a civilized, cultured manner” - said Gdańsk President-elect Aleksandra Dulkiewicz in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" on TVN24.
