President Duda: If Netanyahu's statement was as reported, I am ready to offer the presidential residence in Wisła for a V4 prime ministers' meeting. Israel is not a good place to meet in this situation, despite earlier arrangements.

If Netanyahu's statement sounded as reported by the media, I am ready to make the presidential residence in Wisła available for a meeting of the V4 prime ministers. Israel is not a good place to meet in this situation, despite earlier arrangements.

We Received Official Clarifications from the Israeli Side Regarding the Alleged Quote of the Israeli Prime Minister's Words. It Appears the Article in the Jerusalem Post is an Example of Harmful Journalistic Manipulation

Kaczyński:

Olszewski's Government Was Crucial; It Settled Matters Decisive for Our Future, Such as Russian Bases in Poland and Raising the Issue of Lustration and, Prospectively, Decommunization

- This was a very important government, and in two dimensions. Firstly, it settled certain matters. Foremost among these, we must mention an issue that was absolutely decisive for our future. I'm referring to Russian bases in Poland. There was this idea from the then-President Wałęsa to establish Polish-Russian companies there. In essence, it was a Russian idea, merely adopted by Wałęsa. Had it come to pass, we would essentially have been dealing with a continuation of Russian presence in Poland, with all its consequences, including a cut-off from the West, at least in the military dimension. It was therefore an extremely important decision. And I would like to remind you that it was precisely after this decision that President Wałęsa sent a letter to the Sejm demanding the Prime Minister's resignation - stated Jarosław Kaczyński on "Sygnały dnia” PR1, when asked about his assessment of Prime Minister Olszewski's government. He added:

"Another matter was raising the issue of lustration, and prospectively, decommunization, which means simply changing the essence of the system that was functioning then. Furthermore, the issue of privatization was halted – the predatory privatization. And finally, the matter related to the fact that economic growth began. Its causes were decisions made even earlier, but contrary to the announcements, because the policy of Jan Olszewski's government was supposed to ruin the Polish economy. Yet, it was precisely during this period, after two years of decline, that growth began, which continues to this day. And this, with absolute certainty, is something that can be considered a merit of the Prime Minister. His good sense, his not succumbing to various pressures, because there were such pressures in exchange for support from large formations, urging him to engage in a kind of economic adventurism. He rejected these demands, and this must be remembered."

Kaczyński:

The Olszewski Government Was Groundbreaking. Despite Its Short Tenure, It Set a Course That Was Halted for 13 Years But Remained Part of Polish Politics and Memory

- It was a government [of Jan Olszewski] of groundbreaking significance. Despite its short duration, it nevertheless set a certain course. This course was, as it were, halted for as long as 13 years, but it remained a part of Polish politics, Polish public life, Polish memory, at least for a segment of society, and it was taken up again – stated Jarosław Kaczyński on "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day) PR1.

Mucha:

According to the Israeli side's explanations, the press or part of the press reported statements that were not made

- According to information presented to us by the Israeli embassy, also citing the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel was to be asked about issues related to the IPN law and was to state in this regard that there were no sanctions or convictions whatsoever based on the IPN law, so according to the explanations of the Israeli side, we are dealing with the press or part of the press reporting statements that were not made, that did not take place - said Paweł Mucha in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on the Polsat News program "Graffiti".

- Minister Szczerski intervened, communicating with the Israeli side on this matter, and these kinds of responses also reached us through the Israeli embassy in Poland, through the Ambassador - added Mucha.

Johann:

Netanyahu's Scandalous Remarks. It's Difficult to Understand Why the Prime Minister of a Country with Which We Maintain Very Good Relations Said This. Our Authorities Must React Sharply.
What can one say. A scandalous statement [by the Prime Minister of Israel], just like the statement by an American journalist. These are scandalous statements, it's difficult to understand why the Prime Minister of Israel [said this], a country with which we maintain very good relations, we try to explain history wherever possible, wherever we can, and suddenly such words are uttered. For me, it's simply a scandalous statement. I don't want to say we should break diplomatic relations, because that would be an exaggeration, but there must be a very sharp reaction from the Polish authorities - stated Wiesław Johann in a conversation with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

Mucha on PAD-Glapiński Meeting: The President Supports Transparency of All Public Sector Salaries. However, we also have the context of NBP's independence.

- This meeting also, of course, concerned the context related to the law on salary transparency at the NBP. The President has spoken about this publicly; he is a proponent of all public sector salaries being transparent. However, we also have the context of the NBP's independence as a central bank here - said Paweł Mucha in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News's "Graffiti" program.

- When the legislative process concludes, the law will land on the President's desk, and the President will certainly scrutinize it closely - added Mucha.

Airbus A380 Ends Its Career, Apple Creates a 'Netflix for Media,' German Economy Slows Down
$475 million ...or 2.5 billion if expressed in Turkish Lira – that's how much Turks spend on flowers on Valentine's Day. To meet the demand observed on this single day, florists there grow flowers for the entire month. In 2019, flower prices in Turkey rose by 20%, and a single red rose now costs an average of 10 Lira, or about $1.9. We wish all florists and non-florists that on Valentine's Day, only roses are red... not, for example, balance sheets. (Hurriyet Daily News) The German statistical office has released official data for economic growth in the last quarter of 2018. When preliminary results for the entire year 2018 were announced – they spoke of 1.5% GDP growth – officials assured that GDP in the fourth quarter “did not decrease”. Indeed, it didn't decrease, as it amounted to 0.0%. The Statistisches Bundesamt also revised the data for the whole of 2018, and the preliminary 1.5% became a final 1.4%. Context: An average annual growth of 1.4% is not alarmingly low for Germany in the last decade. In 2009, they recorded a GDP decline of 5.6%; naturally, there was a rebound afterwards, but in 2012 and 2013, the economy grew by only 0.5%. In subsequent years, they observed annual growth of 1.7-2.2%. What is concerning in last year's figures is the 0.2% contraction of the economy in the third quarter. (Statistisches Bundesamt) Airbus is ending production of the world's largest aircraft. The European consortium has announced that the last A380 model – which can carry between 520 and 850 passengers – will be delivered to its customer in 2021. The direct cause was the decision by Emirates, the largest A380 operator, to reduce its order for these aircraft by 25%. Additionally, for many years, Airbus struggled to sell the giant to other airlines, which valued smaller aircraft more (Emirates itself has swapped some of its originally ordered A380s for smaller Airbus models). Among the reasons for the A380's lack of success are its high operating costs, the difficulty in filling it, and the fact that many airports worldwide do not meet the technical requirements to accommodate such a large machine (e.g., the A380 has nowhere to land in Poland). There are currently 234 A380 aircraft flying worldwide, with 109 of them in the colors of Dubai-based carrier Emirates. (The Guardian) French car manufacturer Renault will present its 2018 financial results today. Analysts expect slight declines in revenue, but also a significant drop in earnings per share, by as much as a quarter compared to the previous year. The earnings conference will take place amidst a scandal related to the arrest of former company CEO Carlos Ghosn, from whom the company has withheld his due remuneration for a two-year non-compete period and other bonuses and allowances – totaling €30 million. Context: Ghosn was arrested in November on charges of failing to disclose financial benefits and thereby acting to the detriment of the company. He has been in custody ever since. The issue concerns compensation that Nissan – Renault's partner in their strategic alliance – paid to the executive, which neither he nor the company declared in their financial reports. Last month, he resigned as Chairman of Renault; according to his contract, he should receive €5 million for a two-year non-compete clause. What's next? The former head of Renault has changed his legal defense team, which now includes, among others, a star of the Japanese legal profession, Junichiro Hironaka, known as 'the contractor of innocence'. Hironaka has a track record of high-profile cases in Japan: he has defended prominent politicians and businessmen, most often in cases of mismanagement or insider trading (transactions of securities made by individuals with access to non-public information and using it for private gain). Let's hope Ghosn isn't planning to pay his lawyers with the €30 million he won't receive from Renault... (Handelsblatt, Financial Times) APPLE LOSES A LAWYER AND CREATES A 'NETFLIX FOR MEDIA' One of Apple's executives has been accused of insider trading. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission stated that Gene Levoff, one of the higher-ranking individuals in the company's legal department, abused his position to illegally trade the company's securities before quarterly reports were released. In July 2015, he sold $10 million worth of Apple shares shortly after noticing an analysts' error in profit forecasts, and just before the report was made public, which caused a 4% drop in the securities' valuation. This allowed him to save $345,000. The greatest irony in the case is that Levoff himself was responsible for the company's strategy regarding insider trading. (Financial Times) On the strategic front, Apple has plans to turn the media market upside down. 'Netflix for media' – that's how the American technology giant's product, which will appear in our browsers in April, is being described. It's intended to be a platform aggregating and 'streaming' journalistic products, operating on a monthly subscription model. What is causing controversy in the media industry is the 50/50 profit split from user fees with publishers available on the platform. This means Apple takes half for itself and divides the other half among publishers based on how engaging their content was for users. Media professionals believe this will wipe out their businesses, as they will only be able to generate a fraction of the revenue from Apple subscriptions compared to what they currently earn from advertising. What else is a potential threat from the new service? That it will become another place for collecting data on political preferences and their possible use in creating personalized campaigns, similar to what Facebook did with Cambridge Analytica during, among other events, the U.S. elections in 2016. On the Polish ground: Referring to the Netflix analogy, there is always a risk that Apple's product will lose out in the Polish market to local providers of a corresponding service. Recall: in 2018, in Poland, vod.pl had the most users (3.7 million), followed by cda.pl premium version (2.6 million), tvp.pl (2.4), and player.pl (2.3). Netflix, with 2 million viewers, ranked only fifth in this comparison. (The Verge) Poland is a forge of IT industry talent. In Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, and Romania, there are no disparities between the expected skills of programming specialists and their availability on the market. In 2018, these countries exported IT services worth $13 billion, and the growth dynamics of the R&D (research and development of innovation) market is 20-25%, while the global average is 5%. In Poland, most software services are created for the telecommunications technology market – 35% of the total market. All IT services in our country are projected to reach a value of 14 billion euros in 2022. Still, IT specialists working in Poland earn 46% less than their counterparts in Germany. Kwieciński on Talks with Netanyahu: The Issue of Jewish Property Restitution Did Not Arise. We Primarily Discussed Economic Cooperation

- I can tell you that this issue [of Jewish property restitution] did not come up during the conversation. We primarily discussed economic cooperation. You may not know this, but Israel, with its approximately nine million inhabitants, meaning four times fewer than Poland, is an example of a country that is technologically most advanced - said Jerzy Kwieciński in an interview with Marcin Fijołek on the Siódma9 program.

Following Morawiecki's Intervention, Azari Summoned to MFA from Airport for Note [NEWS 300POLITYKI]

As 300POLITYKA has learned, Israel's Ambassador Anna Azari has been urgently summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), where she is to receive a note in which the Polish government expects an official clarification of Prime Minister Netanyahu's words, as quoted by the Jerusalem Post.

This occurred after a personal intervention by Prime Minister Morawiecki. Consequently, Anna Azari did not depart for the security conference in Munich, but proceeded directly to the MFA from the airport.

Sasin on the Middle East Conference: Extremely Beneficial from Poland's Perspective. We've Entered the Top League of World Politics

This is an event that is extremely beneficial from the perspective of Poland's interests. We have entered the top league of world politics. Poland is the country that is co-hosting a conference discussing global security. Until now, this was the domain of states that have been referred to as superpowers for centuries. I don't want to say that Poland has become a superpower. Today, we are among those who participate at the main table” - Minister Jacek Sasin said on Radio Jedynka.

10:43

Witczak:

We Demand Secrecy for the Upcoming Sejm Session and a Report from the Prosecutor General Regarding Srebrna

- Today, we have no guarantee that such serious accusations directed at a person currently holding power in Poland will be properly clarified, presented, and evaluated. This is a crisis situation resulting from the crisis of the entire system created by PiS. In light of this situation, these reports, these accusations, and the testimony of the Austrian entrepreneur, we demand that the upcoming Sejm session, the 77th Sejm session, be held in secret. We demand that during this secret Sejm session, the Prosecutor General present a very detailed report on the investigation concerning Srebrna, the construction of two towers, and the accusations made by the Austrian entrepreneur - said Mariusz Witczak during a press conference in the Sejm.

Sasin on Netanyahu's Statement: We Will Clarify This Matter Until the End, Because We Cannot Leave Any Ambiguities

There is no reason not to trust Ambassador Azari's communication. The initial information shocked us all. If this statement were to have occurred, it would indeed be scandalous, as it is extremely untrue. We will clarify this matter until the end, because we cannot leave any ambiguities” - said Minister Jacek Sasin on Radio Jedynka.

10:49

Sasin:

We Want to Present Our New Programmatic Proposals and Demonstrate Credibility. The Government's Actions Will Showcase This in the Coming Days

Officially, there is no given date [for PiS's convention]. We are preparing for both types of elections, as the campaign will informally transition from one to the other. We want to present our new programmatic proposals and demonstrate what is the foundation and most important distinguishing factor from other political forces active on the Polish stage, which is credibility. The government's actions will showcase this in the coming days” – said Minister Jacek Sasin on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

Mazurek:

We don't start the day by reading 'Gazeta Wyborcza'. A comment will be made in due course.

"A comment will certainly be made in due course. Please forgive us, but we really don't start the day by reading 'Gazeta Wyborcza'. Patience, this comment will definitely be made" - said the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, Beata Mazurek, in the Sejm, when asked by Radomir Wit from TVN24.

Siemoniak on the Middle East Conference: A Grim Summary of 3 Years of PiS Foreign Policy. It Exceeded the Worst Expectations. Its Failure Clearly Blames the Rulers

We warned about the so-called Middle East conference, organized by the government and President Duda, that the goals of this conference were unclear, that no one said what Poland's interest in it was. Meanwhile, what happened over these two days exceeded the worst expectations and is a very grim summary of three years of the PiS government's foreign policy, or rather, its lack thereof. A lack described by chaotic decisions, tensions with many major partners, including in the EU. Due to thoughtless actions, this conference has positioned us as a party to a serious Middle East conflict, unable to cope at all with the various contexts of this conference. We believe this is a great failure of Polish foreign policy and a failure for Poland, the price of which we will pay for a long time. The failure of this conference clearly blames the rulers” - said the Vice-Chairman of Civic Platform, Tomasz Siemoniak, at a press conference in the Sejm.

For 3 years, we have had anti-diplomacy instead of diplomacy. It does not serve Poland's interest. This conference was contrary to Poland's raison d'état. Poland's raison d'état is to guarantee the security of Poles and build Poland's position as strong and effective as possible in international politics” - added Andrzej Halicki.

Szynkowski vel Sęk: We Find Previous Explanations Regarding Netanyahu's Remarks Unclear. We Expect the Israeli Side to Unambiguously Address What the Prime Minister Meant
On the morning of the current day, Ambassador Anna Azari was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the request of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. We expressed to the Ambassador our expectation that the Israeli side will unambiguously address what Prime Minister Netanyahu meant in his statement quoted by the Israeli media. We consider the explanations provided so far on this matter to be unclear. Therefore, our expectation is that this matter will be clarified unequivocally” - said Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk at a press conference.

Prime Minister Bids Farewell to Jan Olszewski in Online Video:

A Brave Man, a Patriot, an Outstanding Politician, One of the Fathers of Modern Independence After 1989.

On February 7th, Jan Olszewski departed from us – a brave man, a patriot, an outstanding politician, one of the fathers of modern independence after 1989. His entire life bore witness to courage. First, during the occupation, when he served in the Grey Ranks as a participant in the Warsaw Uprising; then, as a participant in the anti-communist opposition, when he repeatedly stood up in defense of the repressed. As a lawyer, he defended people against the oppressive and unjust machinery of the communist system. He supported mistreated workers, he helped repressed opposition members” – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki recalled Jan Olszewski in a video published by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

Desperate Attempts to Discredit Kaczyński Now Evoke Pity and Embarrassment. On Today's GW Publication: Such an Event Did Not Occur

"There are limits to ridiculousness. These desperate attempts to discredit Jarosław Kaczyński, undertaken by 'Gazeta Wyborcza', now evoke pity and embarrassment" – writes the PiS spokesperson, Deputy Marshal Beata Mazurek, in a statement.

"This [today's GW report] is an obvious untruth. Such an event did not occur. Father Sawicz signed the council's resolution without placing any conditions, let alone financial ones. He also did not seek financial support for himself, either before or after signing the resolution" – she added.

Mazurek also announced that lawyers would analyze today's publication by Gazeta Wyborcza.

Israeli Prime Minister's Office: Netanyahu's Statement Misquoted and Falsely Presented in Media Reports

- During a press briefing, Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke about "Poles," not about the "Polish nation" or the "Polish state." This statement was misquoted and falsely presented in media reports, and was subsequently corrected by the journalist who first published the untrue assertion - stated the Prime Minister's Office of Israel in a statement sent to journalists. This information is being shared on Twitter by, among others, Jonny Daniels and Raphael Aren.

Zandberg:

Disagreement with Dziemianowicz-Bąk Concerned Accepting Biedroń's Proposal
We also spoke with Robert Biedroń, who made a rather bizarre proposal for something that is difficult to call a coalition. This difference of opinion concerned precisely that. That is, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk believed that this proposal, the proposal to hide the Razem party’s logo, to transfer campaign funds under the Spring logo, and for the Spring party to choose who would be Spring's candidate, should be accepted. The vast majority of the national board of the National Council and the Razem party’s organizations across the country believed that a different path should be taken – said Adrian Zandberg in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM’s “Political Interview.”

17:31

Zandberg:

SLD Will Likely Go to Schetyna. Biedroń Avoids the Word 'Left,' Targeting Petru's Disappointed Voters. A Void for the Left is Emerging, and It's Our Task.

- We are facing this situation. The Democratic Left Alliance will likely decide to, how should I put it, leave its place on the political stage and go to Grzegorz Schetyna. As for Robert Biedroń, the messages from month to month are becoming clearer. Robert Biedroń is running away from the word 'left,' saying he is not building a left-wing movement. It is becoming increasingly evident that he is targeting the former, disappointed voters of Ryszard Petru. Voters of the liberal center. Here, a space is being created, a void is forming for the left, and it is our task and our responsibility to ensure there is one list for the social left – said Adrian Zandberg in a conversation with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM's "Political Interview."

Siemoniak on Srebrna: It seems that with today's publication, this matter has crossed a red line

- Currently, we have a situation where the credibility of this gentleman, the Austrian developer, is greater than that of President Kaczyński in this matter. First, he was summoned to pay the invoice. The invoice was shown. Then they said there were no documents confirming the work done. It turned out there are. So today, when President Kaczyński hides from responsibility, when state organs are not functioning, quite the opposite, the President pays some secret visits to Minister Ziobro, these questions are becoming more serious. It seems that with today's publication, this matter has crossed a red line - said Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Piotr Marciniak on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

19:50

Siemoniak:

We are close to an agreement on a broad coalition. It will take a few days for individual parties to make their statements on this matter

- I think, I know, that we are close to an agreement on precisely such a broad coalition, which, based on various environments, will go together in the European Parliament elections, and now it will take a few days for the individual authorities, of individual parties, to make their statements on this matter. What is most important is trust between the leaders - said Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Piotr Marciniak on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".
