Gowin:

The Hunting Season Has Begun

- Don't worry about us. We are big boys. We will manage. And of course, the hunting season has begun. The last year of the term, double, and in reality, triple elections ahead of us. I am aware that this will be a time of ruthless thrashing – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Interview".

07:56

Gowin on Kaczyński Tapes: 'I Believe There Is No Scandal. It's a Normal Legal Dispute That Should Be Settled in Court'

- First and foremost, I believe there is no scandal [regarding Jarosław Kaczyński's tapes]. I read the first article with interest, but frankly, the subsequent ones I read with a certain weariness. Generally, I believe this is a normal situation of a legal dispute that should find its resolution in court - stated Jarosław Gowin in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:03

Gowin on Kaczyński's Words: Glapiński's Statements Don't Please Me Either
In my attitude towards President Glapiński, there is absolutely nothing personal. I believe certain standards should apply, standards of transparency, and it is only in this sense, in a very restrained manner, because of tweets, one of which consisted of a single word, that I am participating in this discussion – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

Referring to Jarosław Kaczyński's words, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized: [Adam Glapiński's statements] don't please me either.

08:06

Gowin on Glapiński: It would be irresponsible for a Deputy Prime Minister to suggest the resignation of someone with constitutional protection against dismissal

- I have never discussed this [regarding Adam Glapiński's potential resignation] with any politician from the ruling camp. It would be irresponsible for a Deputy Prime Minister to suggest the resignation of someone with constitutional protection against dismissal. Of course, [he can resign himself], but judging by the statements of President Glapiński, he sees no reason whatsoever – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:15

Sasin on Kujda surrounded by PJK: This was possible because Poland did not undergo a true lustration

- This was possible (Kujda in the entourage of PJK - ed.) because in Poland, true lustration did not actually take place - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Graffiti".

08:19

Sasin:

I'm Not Going to the European Parliament

- I am not going to the European Parliament. I have my current responsibilities. I am engaged in and concentrating on my work at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister - said Jacek Sasin in a conversation with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's 'Graffiti'.

08:24

Weiss on the Middle East Conference: It's Prestigious for Poland, and Prestige Gives Strength

- I would have given Poland broader chances. Such a conference, so many participants, a global conference nonetheless. Not all sides, but still a delegation from the States and from various other important places, this is prestigious for Poland, and prestige gives strength - said Szewach Weiss in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM's "Morning Interview".

08:30

Weiss:

Trump's Politics is a Politics of Encounters. Sometimes Trump Himself Doesn't Know What Will Come of It

- Trump's politics is a politics of encounters. He meets with North Korea, he meets here. Sometimes Trump himself doesn't know what will come of it. If he doesn't know, he will decide what to take from it. This wasn't a joke, that's how he conducts it. That is his system - said Szewach Weiss in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM's "Morning Interview".

08:30

Siemoniak on the Opposition's Joint List: In PO, we assess that an agreement is close, and various matters need to be settled. We want this bloc to be as broad as possible.

"We are close to an agreement. Talks are ongoing. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is participating, so his assessment will be important. In PO, we assess that an agreement is close, and various matters need to be settled. We want this bloc to be as broad as possible. We will certainly fit within the timeline for preparations for the European elections," said the Vice-Chairman of PO, Tomasz Siemoniak, in an interview with Piotr Kraśko on Radio TOK FM's "Poranek."

08:34

Siemoniak on the Middle East Conference: I See No Gains

I see no gains from this [Middle East conference]. It is not a peace conference because not all parties are participating. It is a one-sided conference, and Poland, which has pursued a balanced policy regarding the Middle East for many years, is becoming a party. We are standing alongside the United States, Israel, and other states, without a Palestinian delegation. We are building tension on this line” - said the Vice-Chairman of Civic Platform (PO), Tomasz Siemoniak, in an interview with Piotr Kraśko on TOK FM Radio's "Poranek".

08:39

Bielan on Kaczyński's Tapes: "Gazeta Wyborcza" Has Been Occupied with This Matter for Two Weeks. During These Two Weeks, Support for PiS and the United Right Has Increased by 7%.

- A power of attorney is not a contract, firstly. Secondly, we are dealing here with a normal dispute between two companies. A company represented by this gentleman from Austria and the Srebrna company, and the dispute should be resolved in a commercial court. If the intentions of the representatives of this Austrian's attorneys were pure, there would be no political undertones here; this matter would currently be handled by a commercial court, as Jarosław Kaczyński himself proposed last year in the leaked recording. Well, I can only shrug my shoulders. "Gazeta Wyborcza" has been occupied with this matter [Jarosław Kaczyński's tapes] for two weeks. During these two weeks, support for PiS, the United Right, has increased by 7%. - stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Paweł Lisicki on "Salon polityczny Trójki".

08:45

Bielan:

'Gazeta Wyborcza' is Obsessed with Kaczyński and Srebrna Company

- Gazeta [Wyborcza] has been obsessed with Jarosław Kaczyński since the 1990s. You know this perfectly well, because you follow these events closely. It also has an obsession with the Srebrna company. They've written about it hundreds of times over many years - stated Adam Bielan in a conversation with Paweł Lisicki on 'Salon polityczny Trójki'.

09:49

Former Polish Ambassador to Ukraine on Cichocki: In Kyiv, he will quickly realize that the vector of internal policy there may prove mistaken
I cannot assess my minister at this moment. He [Deputy Foreign Minister Bartosz Cichocki] is my line minister. I think you will know them by their deeds. The minister is working here, in Warsaw, and is often guided by the vector of internal policy. And unfortunately, to a large extent, the vector of internal policy determines the shape of Poland's foreign policy. If he finds himself in a different environment, not working at headquarters, but working in Kyiv, he will probably quickly understand that certain behaviors that are beneficial here may prove mistaken there - stated Jan Piekło in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet. As he continued:
"I acted as a firefighter, who was supposed to put out fires. I happened to have exceptionally bad luck to find myself in a situation where relations became heavily strained. This also stemmed from the fact that the victory of PiS was a certain surprise for the Ukrainian authorities, and the narrative shifted somewhat towards historical issues. This was then wonderfully exploited by a third party that tried to sow discord between us. The shelling of the consulate in Lutsk, very serious situations, when we, as diplomats working in Ukraine, were simply afraid, we were also afraid for our own safety. So it was a very, very difficult period, and it was a time when my task, practically – at least that's how I imagined it – was to maintain communication between the Polish government and the Ukrainian government. So that there would be no collapse, so that there wouldn't be something like having a problem because we simply stop talking to each other."

09:57

Kidawa-Błońska:

A Better and More Honest Approach: Our Prime Ministerial Candidate if We Win the Election – Grzegorz Schetyna

The leader of PO is Grzegorz Schetyna, and it is honest and natural that if a political grouping strives to gain power, it states that it is natural for the party leader to be the candidate for prime minister. It cannot be that President Kaczyński is not the prime minister, yet in reality, all power rests in his hands and he decides everything. A better, more honest presentation of the matter: our candidate, if we win the election – Grzegorz Schetyna, depending on the coalition, will be the candidate for prime minister”  - said the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska from PO, in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

09:57

Kidawa-Błońska on Kujda: It was bad that he took the position of NFOŚiGW President. It was good that he no longer holds this position

"It was bad that he took this position [President of NFOŚiGW]. It was good that he no longer holds this position. He concealed it, he was in the immediate circle of the president. Since the president himself didn't know, I find it hard to believe. The matter is extremely unpleasant for PiS. The state is not functioning. We see that it is constantly within the interests of Law and Justice" - said the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska from PO, in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus, referring to Kazimierz Kujda.

10:17

Sienkiewicz:

Interview with PAP Proves Kaczyński Realized He Can't Overcome Crisis by Granting Interviews to the Karnowski Brothers
Jarosław Kaczyński can feel comfortable because nothing threatens him, everything is subordinate to him. I am convinced that the PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński will never hold a press conference for all journalists - stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz in a conversation with Marek Kacprzak on WP's "Tłit" program. He added:
"At the peak of the Srebrna affair, Jarosław Kaczyński went to his own people, where he heard gentle questions and could say what he wanted. The wave of criticism he faced for avoiding confrontation caused him to take a further step and go to PAP, where the questions were already a bit more complicated."
- The interview with PAP is proof that Jarosław Kaczyński has realized that he is unable to overcome this crisis if he continues to grant interviews to the Karnowski brothers - Sienkiewicz said.

Recruitment Opens for President of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management

The recruitment process for the position of President of the Management Board of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) has begun. According to an announcement published this morning on the Public Information Bulletin (BIP) of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, candidates have 10 days to submit the required documents. This announcement appeared on the BIP of the Prime Minister's Chancellery earlier today.

10:53

Karczewski on Kujda: Like PJK, I Was Surprised. We Had a Very Good Opinion of the President

- I heard absolutely nothing. Like President Jarosław Kaczyński, I was surprised. Like President Jarosław Kaczyński, we had a very good opinion of the President. Personally, in all matters where I had contact with President Kujda, I spoke with him, we cooperated in many areas. I can only speak in the highest terms about our cooperation, about his competences - said Stanisław Karczewski during a press conference in the Senate.

12:15

Kierwiński on today's GW publication: It demolishes the myth that there are no documents regarding Srebrna and that we were not dealing with fraud

"Once again, we have confirmation, a very tangible, written proof that what happened between the Austrian businessman and the representatives of Srebrna, including Mr. Jarosław Kaczyński, were business negotiations for which important documents remain. GW publishes Srebrna's powers of attorney for the Austrian businessman to conduct almost all matters related to the implementation of the investment on Srebrna. This demolishes the myth propagated by PiS politicians that there are no documents in this matter, that we were not dealing with fraud" - said Marcin Kierwiński from PO at a press conference in the Sejm.

Pompeo and Czaputowicz Visit NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group in Bemowo Piskie
Nobody is here by accident. Americans, British, Romanians, Croats, and Poles. Soldiers of NATO, you are here because all member states of the alliance have jointly agreed that NATO's eastern border requires your presence, vigilance, courage, and professionalism. The Alliance cannot allow citizens of the Euro-Atlantic community to be threatened from the East. On behalf of the entire Polish nation, I would like to express my deep gratitude for your service and sacrifice. You are a significant symbol of allied solidarity and readiness. Thanks to your service, we feel much safer. Not because there are so many of you in Poland, but because you represent the power of the entire alliance. We particularly thank the American soldiers present here, as the USA plays the most significant role in the alliance - said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jacek Czaputowicz. Today, the priorities of our commanders are once again focused on potential aggression from Russia. It has been 5 years since the aggression against Ukraine began, which is why we take this front and this direction very seriously, including here. In connection with the threat, the Alliance is essential to protect the free nations of Europe - said Mike Pompeo. https://twitter.com/Poland_MOD/status/1095646588607885315

Sejm to Tackle Public Media Compensation and Justice Minister's Dismissal Next Week, Voting Scheduled Until Midnight

On Wednesday, February 20th, at 3:15 PM, the Sejm will address Civic Platform-Civic Coalition's (PO-KO) motion to dismiss Zbigniew Ziobro from the position of Minister of Justice, according to the preliminary schedule. The debate is planned to last until 5:00 PM, followed by a vote on the motion. Lawmakers were initially scheduled to consider the opposition's motion on Wednesday morning.

A day later, on Thursday, February 21st, at 4:45 PM, the second reading of the bill submitted by Law and Justice (PiS) regarding compensation for public media will take place. While this is a contentious point, much suggests that the Sejm will adopt the proposal on the same day, in a block voting session between 9:00 PM and midnight.

Furthermore, lawmakers will vote on an amendment to the law concerning salaries at the National Bank of Poland (NBP). The session will continue until Friday, but there will be no voting block on that day.

Pence:

The United States Stands Shoulder to Shoulder with Poland, and Always Will
We are with you. We stand with you. The United States of America stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland, as part of the most successful military alliance in world history, and it always will. The United States will always put America first, but that does not mean America will act alone. America will always be with the Polish nation [simultaneous translation TVP Info] - said Mike Pence during the ceremony for the signing of the agreement on the purchase of the HIMARS system.

14:30

Pence to PAD: Poland Was One of Four NATO Countries to Meet Its Commitments, Allocating 2% of GDP to Defense. Mr. President, You Have Our Admiration and Thanks for This.
We stand together defending our alliance and all that is near and dear to us. Every nation has a role to play. A serious promise that says an attack on one is an attack on all is important, requires sacrifice, investment, and preparation to fulfill the declaration of common defense. Because of its history, Poles understand this very well. That is precisely why, in the first year of our term, Poland was one of only four NATO countries that fulfilled its commitments, allocating 2 percent of GDP to defense. Mr. President, you have our admiration and thanks for this [simultaneous translation by TVP Info] – said Mike Pence during the ceremony for signing the agreement on the purchase of the HIMARS system.

14:30

President Duda on the HIMARS System: I Believe the Polish Soldier Will Proudly Stand Guard at Poland's Border and NATO's Border, Knowing They Possess the Best Equipment in the World

I am immensely pleased that the visit of the Vice President of the United States, along with his delegation, to Poland begins with an important and symbolic event, with the signing of an agreement opening the Western HIMARS artillery systems to Poland, an American system that will not only significantly increase Poland's defensive capabilities and the combat potential of the Polish army, but will also contribute to strengthening the security of our part of Europe as the eastern flank of NATO. This is an important event that fits into the long-announced and prepared program for the modernization of the Polish army. A program that entails replacing armaments with modern ones, corresponding to the standards in place in NATO countries, and this time the HIMARS systems represent the manifestation of the most advanced military technical and defensive thought” – said President Andrzej Duda after the signing of the agreement.

I believe that the Polish soldier will be able to stand with pride on guard at Poland's border and NATO's border, knowing that they possess the best possible equipment in the world. This is immensely important. I believe that we will continue to develop our military potential” – he added.

US Vice President Welcomed at the Belvedere Palace

Mike Pence, accompanied by his wife, was welcomed at the Belvedere Palace, where a meeting of the presidential couples will take place. Following this, a one-on-one conversation between the presidents is planned. Afterwards, Andrzej Duda and Mike Pence will lead delegation talks.

Dubois After Birgfellner's Interrogation: The Narrative and Case Management Have Diametrically Changed. We Fear the Proceedings May Lead to a Situation Where the Client's Knowledge is Used Against Him

"There is no set date for [Birgfellner's next interrogation] yet, but it will be next week. Today I am concerned because the narrative and the way the case is being handled have diametrically changed for us. On Monday, we observed the prosecution's incredible insight in establishing actions that could have violated the law, whereas today we observed actions aimed at nullifying these discoveries. We are convinced that the prosecution's goal was to probe what our client knows, rather than to get to the heart of the matter – whether a prohibited act occurred. I had the impression that we were actually dealing with a representative of the injured party, who was probing what we know. We have immense concerns about whether these proceedings are aimed at establishing a prohibited act and who committed it, or if they are intended to prevent the discovery of truth and lead to a situation where our client's knowledge is used against him," stated attorney Jacek Dubois after the interrogation of Gerald Birgfellner.

17:14

Pence:

We are truly proud and grateful for your opposition to Nord Stream 2

- We look forward to cooperating in developing other energy sources, such as nuclear. Our entire government, President Trump, we are truly proud and grateful for your opposition to Nord Stream 2. The USA appreciates Poland's partnership in efforts to defend the telecommunications sector against China. Recent actions against a high-ranking Huawei employee and a Pole accused of cooperating with him have proven that our commitment to efforts protecting the telecommunications sector is unwavering [simultaneous translation by TVP Info] - said Mike Pence at the Belvedere Palace.

17:19

Pence:

US Supports Poland's Leadership Role in the Three Seas Initiative

- The United States supports Poland in its leadership role in the Three Seas Initiative. As President Trump recently said, through increased trade and new infrastructure, we will unleash incredible energy in innovation that will be safe, responsible, and environmentally friendly [simultaneous translation by TVP Info] - said Mike Pence at the Belvedere Palace.

17:27

Pence Quotes Wałęsa: "We Hold Our Heads High, Because Despite the Price Paid, We Know Freedom Has No Price"

- Together, we will ensure the security and prosperity of our nations, our countries. As the great Polish hero Lech Wałęsa said, "We hold our heads high, because despite the price paid, we know freedom has no price." Today in America, just like the people of Poland, we hold our heads high because we stand shoulder to shoulder with you, protecting the priceless gift of freedom [simultaneous translation by TVP Info] – said Mike Pence at the Belvedere Palace.

17:30

President Duda after meeting with Pence: We addressed the most crucial issues concerning our allied and economic cooperation

The conference has this political, bilateral component between our nations, between Poland and the United States. Today, for several hours, we were able to discuss important topics of interest to us, which in the space between the USA and Poland today constitute the most crucial issues related to our allied cooperation and our economic cooperation. Our meeting today began with a symbolic moment when Minister Błaszczak signed an agreement on future deliveries of the HAIMARS system” - said President Andrzej Duda after the meeting with the Vice President of the United States.

I am extremely pleased that we were able to meet with our soldiers. There were soldiers from the Polish Army and the United States Army. A symbolic moment, demonstrating the military presence of the USA in Poland within NATO and within the alliance between our countries. We discussed the American military presence. I am very glad, because the President mentioned that American soldiers and officers arriving in Poland and those who were already in Poland highly rate the conditions in which they are staying. They are satisfied with their stay and service in Poland” - said President Duda.

We discussed energy and economic cooperation. This cooperation is a very important topic in our mutual relations. Today, we have a whole series of agreements signed for the import of liquefied gas to the terminal in Świnoujście” - he added.

WKK:

We Greatly Respect Barbara Nowacka for Her Social Sensitivity. We Disagree with Proposals, and Will Never Vote for Them, That Provoke a War with the Church

- We greatly respect Barbara Nowacka for her social sensitivity. We disagree with proposals, and will never vote for them, that provoke a war with the Church. We will defend Christian roots in Europe and in Poland. We will not let them be undermined. For this, a strong representation is necessary - stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program „Wydarzenia i Opinie” (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

19:45

WKK on Biedroń's Program: No Credibility in This Call for Brotherhood

- I really liked his call for an end to the Polish-Polish war. This is consistent with what we have been saying for many, many years. However, this is not confirmed in the second sentence. In the second sentence, there is a bringing to the table of ideological projects, a breaking of the abortion compromise, and the introduction for debate and consideration of issues that will maximally divide Poles. Introducing an ideological war into a political war that has torn Polish families in half is a complete tragedy. There is no credibility in this call for brotherhood - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

20:27

Bielan:

These documents published today were already released days ago. GW is starting to repeat itself

- I am not surprised by [the testimonies]. "Gazeta Wyborcza" has a real obsession with Jarosław Kaczyński. Besides, these documents that were published today were already published a few days earlier. So "Gazeta Wyborcza" is starting to repeat itself. Within two weeks of the outbreak of this pseudo-scandal, support for PiS, the United Right, has increased by 7% - stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".

EP Elections Likely to Be Announced by End of February. We'll Reveal Our Candidates Around That Time, I Believe.
We are awaiting the President's decision on announcing the election date. The date is already roughly known, as a result of European agreements. May 26th, the last Sunday in May. The President will likely announce it by the end of February. I believe we will reveal our candidates around that time. We are very well prepared for this campaign. These will be very important elections, both for Poland and for the entire EU. We will resolve many dilemmas facing the EU - stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".

Never in the History of Our Official Diplomatic Relations Have Polish-American Relations Been as Good as They Are Today

- Quite recently, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and the USA. I would like to recall that the United States was the first country to recognize Ignacy Paderewski's government in January 1919, and never in the history of these 100 years of our official diplomatic relations have Polish-American relations been as good as they are today. For two years, thanks to the decisions of the NATO summit in Warsaw, over 4,500 American soldiers have been stationed in our country. We are doing everything to increase the military engagement of the USA in Poland - stated Adam Bielan in an interview with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości".
