Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau have detained six individuals in an investigation concerning the detrimental disposal of assets worth significant value and the creation of direct danger of significant financial loss for Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (Polish Armaments Group) – the CBA announced.

"Among those detained is the former head of the Ministry of National Defence's political cabinet, Bartłomiej M., former board member of PGZ S.A., Radosław O., former parliamentarian Mariusz Antoni K., as well as three former employees of the Ministry of National Defence and the PGZ company. All detainees will be transported to the District Prosecutor's Office in Tarnobrzeg, where they will face charges. In connection with the arrests, CBA officers are conducting searches at over 30 locations. The investigation, based on the CBA's own materials, concerns mismanagement, leveraging influence, and document forgery during the conclusion of contracts by PGZ S.A. In the assessment of investigators, there was a detrimental disposal of assets worth significant value and the creation of direct danger of significant financial loss."

– I do not have such information regarding this matter [the arrest of, among others, Bartłomiej M.]. When asked if a coalition without Platforma was possible, the head of SLD replied: - Everything is possible. No one is afraid, everyone is just watching, as in real politics, what others do. However, I would favor either a left-wing list, and here we have a problem because Mr. Biedroń simply does not want to be on this list; if he were, we would create a strong, powerful left-wing list, or a as broad a list as possible, meaning with PSL, Platforma, Nowoczesna, and the Greens. This can be commented on by saying that the group holding power in the Ministry of National Defence during Antoni Macierewicz's tenure caused quite a stir. Of course, we cannot prejudge, as these are only accusations, it's only an arrest, and we don't know if it will evolve into detention, but this matter is truly very serious. Above all, the myth of the impeccable knights of good change, who were supposed to introduce a new quality into public life after coming to power, is crumbling. It turns out that corruption has no political colours, and building the authority of institutions is more important than replacing people. Unfortunately, the opposite is happening: there is a thoughtless replacement of people. Meanwhile, the authority of institutions is being destroyed. I mean here the Constitutional Tribunal, the attempt to destroy the authority of the Supreme Court, and paradoxically, the National Bank of Poland, considered a bastion, is destroying itself because the President of the National Bank of Poland, in saving himself, is using this institution to do so - stated Piotr Zgorzelski in an interview with Łukasz Kijka on Gazeta.pl, commenting on the arrests of, among others, Bartłomiej M. and Mariusz Antoni K. by the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA).

The Minister of Health, Łukasz Szumowski, stated on Tuesday that there are no plans to bring Marian Banaś, the head of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), before the State Tribunal. The minister clarified that Banaś's case is a matter for the ordinary courts.

"The issue concerning the head of NIK is a matter for the court, and the court will decide on it," said Szumowski in an interview for Polsat News. He added that the government does not intend to "escalate" the matter by pursuing a trial before the State Tribunal.

Marian Banaś has been under scrutiny following reports of alleged irregularities in his financial declarations and his asset accumulation. The opposition has called for his resignation and for him to be held accountable before the State Tribunal.

The State Tribunal is a special court in Poland responsible for judging the culpability of the highest state officials for violations of the Constitution or laws.

Szumowski emphasized that the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary are paramount. He suggested that allowing the courts to handle the case demonstrates respect for these principles.

The Minister of Health's statement comes at a time of ongoing political debate regarding the accountability of public officials and the integrity of state institutions.

The Gdańsk electoral commissioner has already received nominations from 8 committees planning to field their candidates in the snap mayoral elections.

According to the Prime Minister's regulation, the deadline for committee nominations is midnight. They will have until February 6th to present their candidate names.

Meanwhile, the regional board of the Pomeranian Civic Platform – as reported by Radio Zet – has granted its support to the current Gdańsk commissioner, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz.
