Rybicki:

I Deeply Wish for Hate Speech and Aggression in Public Life to Cease

- I would very much like for it to be so [that we are entering a new political world, full of respect for political rivals, devoid of hate speech], but looking at our experience of living through the Smoleńsk tragedy and how quickly the community that united Poles after that tragedy fell apart, it doesn't fill me with optimism. I would very much like for the language of public debate, for hate speech, for other examples of aggression in public life to cease to function, to be combated with the full force of the state, but I am a very moderate optimist - stated Sławomir Rybicki in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". He added:

"Responsibility rests on everyone [responsibility], in particular, the responsibility concerns politicians, but the responsibility for prosecuting all manifestations of hatred lies with the state, and I think the state has a lot to improve in this matter, because a lack of reaction to hateful, chauvinistic statements, to aggression towards other participants in political life should be combated, and as I recall from many examples, such as the Independence March last year, when a group of women was essentially aggressively attacked by participants of the march, it met with practically no reaction from the state. This is an acceptance of hateful language and actions. The Catholic Church, all churches in Poland, have a huge role to play in appealing and, in their pastoral work, paying special attention to this."

- If the state reacts in its criminal policy precisely through the actions of the prosecution, I think that all those who come up with bad ideas will ponder whether it is worth confronting the seriousness of the state whenever we use aggression in public life - continued the PO senator.
- The state is responsible for rebuilding the community, for policy towards those who break the standards of public debate, and has tools to combat phenomena that are dangerous from the perspective of public debate and are hateful. It has the prosecutor's office for this, institutions as well, important tools like influencing young people in schools, many actions that weigh on the ruling camp - he added.

Paruch:

Politicians are Crossing a Red Line

Politicians are crossing a red line. It is definitely visible. They often take on the roles of very aggressive journalists, and therein lies a certain problem. This is particularly evident in the Sejm. Please recall the events in the Sejm from 2015-2017, how often a line was crossed there that cannot be tolerated, because it causes political discussions to cease being substantive. They are not an expression of political dispute, but of exclusion from public debate, of specific insults, reminiscent of the 1960s of communist Poland or the 1930s from local government elections” - said Prof. Waldemar Paruch in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

07:57

Paruch:

If the opinion is repeated that the political atmosphere murdered President Paweł Adamowicz, then we must firmly say 'no'. It wasn't an atmosphere. It was a described murderer.

Building cause-and-effect relationships regarding the Gdańsk crime is very harmful. If the opinion is repeated that some political atmosphere murdered President Paweł Adamowicz, then we must firmly say 'no'. It wasn't an atmosphere. It was a described murderer, about whom we know more and more, who planned to go down in history by committing a great crime. He happened to choose the events in Gdańsk” – said Prof. Waldemar Paruch in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Jedynka radio.

07:57

Rybicki:

The President is Essentially Responsible for Rebuilding the Community

- I believe that [Grzegorz Schetyna's] language is justified. One must not remain silent when evil is occurring. Silence is an acceptance of evil, and I think that the duty of political leaders is, of course, to temper their language and seek dialogue, but the responsibility for building community, for rebuilding the community in Poland, which we know has been divided for many years, lies primarily with the president. He is the head of state and is essentially responsible for rebuilding the community. Similarly, as I mentioned, the ruling camp has all the tools to fight evil and hatred in public debate, and the role of politicians is, of course, not to escalate this language, but to seek arguments, not hate speech - stated Sławomir Rybicki in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:04

Rybicki:

The President Shouldn't Go Skiing After a Funeral, But Invite the Prime Minister and Church Leaders to the Palace to Soothe Public Debate

- After the funeral, the President shouldn't go skiing, but rather go to the [Presidential] Palace, invite the Prime Minister, representatives of the Episcopate, all institutions that could influence the softening of public debate language in Poland. Invite the Minister of Justice, discuss how to interpret xenophobic, nationalistic, and aggressive behaviour. How to change the prosecutor's office's approach towards those who trample public debate standards, instead of going skiing. So, the complaint towards Schetyna or opposition politicians is probably addressed incorrectly - stated Sławomir Rybicki in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:21

Spychalski:

It's always easiest to criticize the other side. If we start by pointing fingers and waiting for the other side to act, it won't be good
I think everyone should change their approach, because it's always easiest to criticize the other side. I have the impression that many politicians and publicists today are saying, 'You start. You need to take a step back. If you do, I'll consider it too.' That's not the way. If we start by pointing fingers and waiting for the other side to act, it won't be good - stated Błażej Spychalski in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM. He added:
"The President made many such gestures last week. For example, on the first day, immediately on Monday, after that tragic event on Sunday, he met with, invited representatives of all political parties to the Palace in order to discuss the situation, propose joint solutions, discuss what happened, what can be done together, to show that in a difficult moment we are capable of rising above political and party divisions, that we are capable of doing something together. These are very important gestures."
- You saw what happened on Saturday, at the funeral itself. You saw how it took place. Everyone saw how it was. One could have taken offense, or one could have acted in accordance with their conscience, with a certain expectation of Poles, and the President did that. He was there, he was in the majesty of the Republic of Poland, the first citizen of the Republic of Poland, he went to pay tribute to President Adamowicz. These are important things - the presidential spokesperson continued.

08:26

Paruch:

It will be a big problem in Poland if this crime is politicized now

It will be a big problem in Poland if this crime is politicized now. Polarization will be clearly strengthened and further lines will probably be crossed. It will be very bad if causal links are built for the crime in Gdańsk that are political in nature, contrary to the facts” – said prof. Waldemar Paruch in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

08:27

Dworczyk:

Gdańsk Elections Most Likely on March 3rd

- Today, once the documents prepared by the Ministry of Interior and Administration are received by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister will issue a regulation setting the date for the [Gdańsk mayoral] elections. Most likely, it will be March 3rd, which is the earliest possible date - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News's "Polityczne Graffiti".

08:29

Spychalski on TVP's Recent Stance: 'I think, like many people, the President is also quite critical of what has happened'

- I think that, like many people, the President is also quite critical of what has happened. Monday's [report] from last week is probably the best proof of that. That it is worth being critical of public media as well – stated Błażej Spychalski in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM, when asked how President Duda assesses TVP's stance in recent days.

08:35

Spychalski:

President told the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) "intervene more often, because this is all going too far"

- At that meeting, which we are discussing, the president told the members of the KRRiT: listen, think about it, see what is happening and intervene, intervene more often, because this is all going too far. That decisions need to be made, to stop somewhere, so that we don't cross that line which is insurmountable - stated Błażej Spychalski in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

08:39

Spychalski:

A Reset in Public Debate Would Be Welcome
A reset in public debate would certainly be welcome. Absolutely. I think a reset is needed in all public media, and also commercial ones, especially television, Błażej Spychalski stated in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

Waszczykowski on Linking Rule of Law with EU Funds: It's a Utopian Solution. There is No Definition of Rule of Law in European Law. The term appears, but there is no definition.
No, that's just really a scare tactic, it's just a declaration. Because for it to become law, it must be accepted by the European Council and it must be part of the EU treaties ratified by all members - stated Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski in Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy" (The Heart of the Matter), when asked about the idea of linking the rule of law with EU funds. As he added:
"This is, of course, a utopian solution. Because in European law, in no treaty is there any definition of the rule of law. The term appears, but there is no definition of what the rule of law should look like in a member state, the structure of the judiciary, its management, one tribunal or another. These are all prerogatives of the member state. If there is no such definition, who would assess it, according to what criteria, how would it be imposed? Not only on Poland, but for example on France.”

09:55

Neumann on Dulkiewicz's Support: 'If She Wants to, We Will Discuss It With Her, Because She Seems the Obvious Successor to What Paweł Left in Gdańsk'
'If she wants to, we will discuss it with her, because she seems the obvious successor to what Paweł left in Gdańsk and to the idea with which he governed in Gdańsk, so it's obvious. We will discuss this, and we will also talk with other political circles so that they do not put forward candidates' – said the head of the PO-KO club, Sławomir Neumann, in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

09:57

Neumann on Schetyna's comment on Father Wiśniewski's words: He said what he felt at that moment, leaving the church from the funeral of his friend who died because of hatred.

He said what he felt at that moment, leaving the church from the funeral of his friend who died because of hatred. Because that is the truth. Let's not postpone it from the moment and from the place. Let's not say it was said in some other space. It was said at the funeral of Paweł Adamowicz, whom hatred killed” - said the head of the Civic Platform – Coalition parliamentary club, Sławomir Neumann, in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

09:57

Neumann:

Let Everyone Look to Their Own Sins, Let's Not Point Fingers at Others

Let everyone look to their own sins, let's not point fingers at others, certainly. And let's remember that. If we manage to lower the level of aggression in comments, if we manage to lower the level of hate speech on social media, but above all, if the state finally takes action on quite obvious matters, such as hanging pictures of PO MEPs on a gallows, just as in the case of Paweł Adamowicz, these political death certificates issued by Młodzież Wszechpolska, are taken seriously, as if someone is not just calling someone names or stripping them of dignity, but threatening them with death online – that this will be taken seriously” - said Sławomir Neumann, head of the PO-KO club, in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

09:58

Waszczykowski:

Whoever Can Guarantee Us More Security is Closer to Us
It is the Americans who help us with the security problems of our part of Europe. They respond more to our security sensitivities. This sensitivity is, after all, based on decades or even centuries of very negative experiences. Poland has been very negatively affected by history. And we do not notice this interest from Europe, but we do notice more of this interest from the American side and we benefit from it. It's obvious. Whoever can guarantee us more security is closer to us – stated Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy".

President Duda to Open Polish House in Davos, Organized by Pekao. Krupiński: This Year, We Want to Emphasize Poland's Presence Even More

Bank Pekao is once again a partner of the World Economic Forum in Davos. With the participation of President Andrzej Duda and alongside PZU, they will open the Polish House in Davos, a meeting and promotion venue for Polish business. The signing of partnership agreements and participation in debates with global economic leaders are also planned.

The 49th World Economic Forum 2019 in Davos, Switzerland, begins on Tuesday, January 22nd. This is one of the most important economic events for global political, social, and business leaders and will last until Friday, January 25th. The main theme of this year's Forum is Globalization 4.0.

On Tuesday, President Andrzej Duda will be a guest of Bank Pekao and PZU, and he will open the Polish House. This venue will host debates, presentations, and conferences dedicated to global and Polish economy topics throughout the Forum. The President will also participate in a debate on the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and opportunities for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

- Our presence in Davos is not just about business meetings, but above all about representing Poland on the international stage. This is a responsible task, considering the growing role of the Polish economy abroad. After last year's successes, this year we want to emphasize our presence even more. Hence the idea, among others, for the Polish House: a place for meetings, dialogue, and promoting our country - says Michał Krupiński, CEO of Bank Pekao. Bank Pekao also plans to announce strategic partnerships with innovative Polish companies and organize other events aimed at promoting Poland, Polish companies, and entrepreneurs.

Waszczykowski on a New Treaty: It Turned Out That Large EU States Block Such Changes. There Was No Political Will Then
- Yes, of course, such changes were prepared. We conducted various international discussions, but to introduce such changes, there must be the will of all member states to open the European treaty, to adopt the Lisbon Treaty. We held consultations, including with the largest states, and with EU representatives. For example, I was present during Prime Minister Szydło's talks with Donald Tusk, and the response from the Berlin-Paris-Brussels triangle was unequivocal. There is no desire to open the European treaty in order to introduce such changes – stated Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "The Core Issue," when asked about changes in the EU and the proposal for a new treaty. He added:
"We then talked about the need to redefine the role and functioning of European institutions such as the EC, the Council, the relations between the EP and national parliaments, etc. This kind of discussion was ongoing, I recall, before March 2017, because in March the entire EU celebrated the 60th anniversary of the EU, the Treaties of Rome, and at that time, a declaration was indeed being prepared for this anniversary meeting, which was to announce, among other things, Europe of two speeds, the Eurozone, etc. As a result of significant pressure, not only from Poland but from several other countries, we managed to change that declaration. It states that work can proceed in this direction, but it is not an ultimate statement that predetermines the development of the EU. It turned out that the large EU states were blocking such changes, realizing that it required opening the treaty. There was no political will to open the treaty at that time."

WKK:

Today, There is No Conversation. We Must Start by Restoring Dialogue in the Sejm, Reintroducing Normal Debate
“Today there are many appeals, calls for normalcy, reconciliation, and serious treatment. By commemorating Wincenty Witos, we do not want his words to remain merely a historical memory of his deeds, a part of our glorious history. Instead, they should serve as our guidepost. This monument is not a monument to a man, but an homage to the idea Wincenty Witos believed in: a sovereign, independent state that treats every one of its citizens with dignity. Human dignity was an extraordinary challenge for him, as was mutual respect. We have appealed many times – the word ‘appeal’ is practically attached to us, one might say – but in the many statements we have made in recent years, there is perhaps more truth, or perhaps this truth is becoming more visible. I would like to recall two quotes from Wincenty Witos that I wish to apply to today. The first is: ‘Where the interest of the state begins, the interest of the party ends.’ This must be a call to all political parties. Frankly, we initially treated this at the beginning of the political year, the political season in September, as a call to attempt to unite the opposition. This remains relevant,” stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference held in front of the Wincenty Witos monument in Warsaw. He added:
“But after the events in Gdańsk, Wincenty Witos’s call, ‘where the interest of the state, of Poland, begins, there the interest of the party ends,’ concerns all political and social circles, it concerns the media, for them to take to heart that self-interest has its limits. That limit is the interest of the state, national, or social, local or national community. And that is how we must consider it. Either this interest will prevail, and the interest of the community is normalcy, normal human relations, kindness, not disagreeing on every sentence, because that is impossible and unnecessary, but a normal conversation. Today, Poland suffers from a lack of social, civic, and inter-party dialogue, inter-politically. There is no conversation, no dialogue. We must start by restoring this dialogue in the Sejm, by reintroducing a normal debate. Not short statements, cutting questions short, or silencing speakers. A normal debate, there is time for long debates in the Sejm. Let’s increase the time for parties so that there is an opportunity for conversation, for normal answers. Restoring dialogue is certainly the most important matter, and I believe that is what Wincenty Witos would be appealing for today.”

Teraz! Demands Hate Speech Laws Be Passed. Scheuring-Wielgus: Hate and Hate Speech Not Only Hurt, But Also Kill

The assassination of President Adamowicz is, in our opinion, one of the most important and tragic events in our history. It is also proof that hate and hate speech not only hurt, but also kill. I have been saying this for 3 years, and for 3 years all my statements on hate speech and the laws I submit have been regularly ridiculed by PiS politicians. Never has any ruling party used hate and hatred to fight the opposition. Never has any political formation made hate and hatred an everyday occurrence. Until now, until the formation that is currently in power, until PiS” - said Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus from Teraz! at a press conference in the Sejm.

It was a political murder. PiS is responsible for the language of hatred in Poland. I do not believe in reflection on their part. If there were, Jacek Kurski would not have been the president of TVP for several days now. We do not agree with the slogan 'silence over this coffin.' We must draw conclusions so that such a situation never happens again in Poland” - added Ryszard Petru.

Lubnauer:

Nowoczesna Will Not Field a Candidate in Gdańsk Mayoral Election. We Will Support Dulkiewicz If She Wishes

- We learned today that elections in Gdańsk will likely take place on March 3rd. These will be unusual elections, as they occur after what is perhaps the biggest tragedy in recent years, the murder of Paweł Adamowicz. Therefore, it is important that we understand the will of the family, and also the residents of Gdańsk regarding the future of Gdańsk. For this reason, Nowoczesna has decided that we will not field a candidate for the mayor of Gdańsk, and if Aleksandra Dulkiewicz so wishes, we will support her – stated Katarzyna Lubnauer at a briefing in the Sejm.

PSL-UED Submits Information Request to Government Regarding Doubts About Investigation and Functioning of Polish Penitentiary System, Judiciary, and Services

- Every day, new revelations reach us concerning the investigation into the murder of President Adamowicz. We had revelations about alleged earlier plans to attack the Presidential Palace. Today, it turns out that the information about the murderer using a badge appropriate for journalists is also untrue. This causes unease and a sense of threat among Poles. We have been inundated with these doubts and questions since last week. Therefore, as the PSL-UED parliamentary club, we would like to submit a request for information from the government regarding the doubts arising around the investigation and the functioning of the penitentiary system, the judiciary, and services in Poland. As part of this information, we would like ministers Ziobro and Brudziński to provide answers to very specific questions that contain precisely these doubts of Poles - stated Krzysztof Paszyk at a briefing in the Sejm. He added:

"Firstly, why, if the immediate family informed that the convicted person – despite completing his sentence – could be dangerous to others, did the police and prison service do nothing about it? Secondly, we would also like to ask the ministers, if the convicted person is diagnosed as mentally ill in prison, why after serving his sentence he does not go to a closed institution, why he is not monitored or observed? These are very important doubts that are emerging at this stage, and from the perspective of public perception of the whole affair, reliable information would be valuable, and we are counting on both gentlemen ministers to provide us with this information."

Brudziński:

I've Decided to Initiate Proceedings to Revoke the License of the Security Firm That Provided Services for the Event

- Services subordinate to the Ministry of Interior and Administration are continuously working to clarify the case of the murder of the Mayor of Gdańsk - stated Joachim Brudziński in an interview with Radio Maryja. He added: - As a result of these actions, a person responsible for organizing security during the final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in Gdańsk was apprehended this morning. He urged security agency employees to provide false testimonies. The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration also announced that he had decided to initiate proceedings to revoke the license of the security firm that provided services for the event.

13:51

Tusk:

Olo, lead our city. This is how we all read your Boss's will

Donald Tusk, the former Prime Minister of Poland and current President of the European Council, has used his social media to send a message to the public, seemingly directed at Paweł Rabiej, the Deputy Mayor of Warsaw. In a tweet posted on January 22, 2019, Tusk wrote: "Olu, prowadź nasze miasto. Tak wszyscy odczytujemy wolę Twojego Szefa" which translates to "Olo, lead our city. This is how we all read your Boss's will." This statement has been interpreted in various ways, with many seeing it as a veiled endorsement of Rabiej's leadership and a directive from a higher political authority. The reference to "Your Boss's will" is particularly intriguing, as it implies a shared understanding and alignment of political objectives within a particular faction or party. The tweet, which links to a Twitter post by @donaldtusk, has generated considerable discussion and speculation within Polish political circles, with commentators dissecting the nuances of Tusk's language and its potential implications for the future of Warsaw's governance.

PMM:

Central and Eastern Europe is the EU's Fastest Growing Region. We Particularly Want to Focus on the Digital Economy

Central and Eastern Europe is the fastest growing region of the European Union. I am convinced that everyone would want this situation to be the new norm for at least several decades. We particularly want to focus on the digital economy, which is so important for all of us. For Google as well, this type of cooperation – as I believe – will focus precisely on how to find the right platform for cooperation” - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the Central European Round Table on Innovation.

14:36

PMM:

We Want to Find a Way to Retain Talent in Poland and Central/Eastern European Countries with the Help of Companies like Google
"We would like to find a way for Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and countries in Central and Eastern Europe, with your help, in cooperation with companies like Google, to retain talent in our countries, even though in a few years they might leave for other countries. We also spoke about people who came back to Warsaw from California, from the West Coast. So there are examples that are particularly important to us. We don't want another brain drain. We want these brains to work for Google, for Poland, for Lithuania" – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said during the Central European Roundtable on Innovation.

Neumann on Early Elections: Gdańsk Chose Its President Months Ago and Doesn't Need New Elections Today, Just Confirmation of That Choice

These shouldn't be elections as we all know them. It should be one candidacy, supported by everyone, so that there isn't even a campaign in Gdańsk. Gdańsk chose its president several months ago and doesn't need new elections today, only confirmation of that choice from a few months ago” - said the head of the Civic Platform-Civic Coalition parliamentary club, Sławomir Neumann, in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

Neumann on Commissioner Dulkiewicz: If She Decides, If She Makes That Decision, She Will Have the Support of All Urban Groups and Movements

"We spoke [with Aleksandra Dulkiewicz - Commissioner of Gdańsk]. PM Signed Ordinance. Elections in Gdańsk on March 3

Michał Dworczyk, head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, announced on Twitter that the Prime Minister had signed the ordinance, setting the date for the repeat mayoral election in Gdańsk for March 3.

The original mayoral election in Gdańsk, held on October 21, 2018, was declared invalid by the National Electoral Commission (PKW) due to irregularities. A new election was therefore necessary.

The previous election saw Pawel Adamowicz win with 52.46% of the vote, but the PKW found that the number of invalid ballots in some polling stations exceeded the difference in votes between the candidates, leading to the annulment of the results.

The repeat election will be a significant event for the city, with the candidates vying to fill the vacant mayoral seat.

Neumann on TVP Boycott: 'We Will Discuss It at the Board Meeting This Week'

"For many months, Civic Platform has been boycotting one of the public television programs, disagreeing with the host, who has now been suspended. This is a matter of discussion, debate, whether to boycott or other actions – we will discuss it at the national board meeting this week," said the head of the Civic Platform-KO club, Sławomir Neumann, in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

Duda on the Attack on Adamowicz: Something Happened That Should Never Have Happened. It's Still Hard for Me to Believe

Something happened that should never have happened. First, I received the news that there had been an attack on the Mayor of Gdańsk, I received it with disbelief. At first, I didn’t even take it very seriously. I thought it was just some incident. Only when I learned that he was being resuscitated on stage did the first reaction occur, that something very, very serious had happened. It was a shock to me, and I started to follow every minute very closely” – said President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski for wp.pl.

It is still hard for me to believe. From a state perspective, but I also look at it as a father” – he added.

Duda on Adamowicz's Assassination: I Doubt It Can Be Called a Political Murder When the Crime is Committed by Someone with Diagnosed Mental Health Issues

I doubt that it can be called a political murder when this terrible crime is committed by someone who has serious diagnosed mental health problems, who has been treated for schizophrenia. This is serious and credible information, so I doubt it can be considered in those terms [of political murder]” - said President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski on wp.pl.

17:38

President Duda: I Appeal to Start with Ourselves, to Each Person to Reflect in Their Conscience on What They Have Written Online and How They Have Expressed Themselves

I can ask for one thing, appeal for one thing: to start the reckoning with oneself. I very much ask that each person, in their own conscience, reflects on what they have written online so far, on how they have expressed themselves. I'm not just talking here about people who do it because they are public figures. I ask everyone to consider what they have written about information concerning celebrities, politicians, and schoolmates” – said President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski for wp.pl.

17:42

President Duda Asked About Father Wiśniewski's Words: "Strong, but I'm Convinced They Should Be Understood as Addressed to Everyone"

Everyone [should take to heart the words of Father Wiśniewski], starting with the President of the Republic of Poland, myself and all who have held this office so far, as well as those who will hold it, through politicians, prime ministers, ministers, former, current, future ones, everyone, and ending with schoolchildren who write on internet portals, on messengers about their colleagues, public figures. Everyone should take these words to heart, and I hope that was the intention of the father who uttered them. Strong, but I'm convinced they should be understood as addressed to everyone” – said President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski on wp.pl.

17:50

President Duda: I don't want to judge individual media outlets. I have reservations about Polish media in general

"My words about an examination of conscience apply to everyone: politicians, journalists, experts, celebrities, ordinary citizens, and the media as well," stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski for wp.pl.

"I don't want to judge individual media outlets. I have reservations about Polish media in general, and I am not singling anyone out, neither positively nor negatively. I am not saying that some media are reliable and absolutely truthful, while others are unreliable and do not tell the truth. Those working in the media, and ordinary Poles, know perfectly well what our situation in Poland is like, and that is why I am asking for an examination of conscience," the President added.

17:58

Duda:

We are EU members, Poles appreciate it. This doesn't change the fact that we have the right and should articulate our viewpoint, make our proposals. So that the EU can be better.

- The fact is this: we are today a member of the EU. Very many positive elements flow from the EU for us, and Poles appreciate our EU membership. However, this does not change the fact that we have the right and should – in my opinion – also articulate our viewpoint, our assessment of the situation, and make our proposals within the EU, also looking at Great Britain, at the attitude of British society, that we should repair something after all. Perhaps something needs to be changed, to step back a bit. So that the EU can be better, so that we can return to that great period of the EU which was the 80s and 90s, when the European project led to great prosperity in Western Europe, something that history probably doesn't remember – stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski for WP.

President Duda: No Treaty Provisions for EU Exclusion; Such a Decision Would Mirror Brexit

- These are political games, political rhetoric for the upcoming election campaign, and that's how you should view it. Today, there is no one in Poland with a reasonable mind in any serious political party that – I believe – would even consider the issue of Poland leaving the EU. At the same time, I want to signal: Poland leaving the EU, because there are no treaty provisions that speak of anyone being excluded from the EU. It must be a decision like the Brexit decision. I don't see that option at all. Nobody today is proposing that we leave the EU. For me, this is about building certain myths for the needs of political struggle in the election campaign. Please treat it as such – stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski on WP, when asked about opposition accusations of Polexit.

Duda:

The First Lady should be insured regarding retirement. However, my wife does not expect a salary and has told me so many times
- I look at this primarily, because that is my point of view, from my wife's perspective. I will say this: one thing certainly should not happen, namely that by default the Polish state does not provide retirement insurance for the First Lady. From my taxed presidential salary, of which I receive about 13.5 thousand PLN net per month, I pay over 1100 PLN per month to ZUS for my wife. This is because I want her to have continuity of insurance, as she had to interrupt her work at the school, which she had been doing for 17 years prior. This is something that should not happen. Therefore, I believe that, first and foremost, the First Lady should be insured regarding retirement matters. This is a fundamental issue. As for salary - I can say this: my wife does not expect a salary, and she has told me this many times - stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Makowski on WP, when asked about the initiative for a First Lady's salary. - I appeal to the parliamentarians: if they consider any projects on this matter at all, they should really show absolute great moderation here - added PAD. He noted that if retirement insurance were to be established for the First Lady, it should also be retroactive, meaning it should have been paid to all First Ladies.

Bielan on Draft Law Regarding NBP Salary Transparency: "I think it's no longer a matter of weeks, but days."

I think it's no longer a matter of weeks, but days. The next Sejm session is in 3 weeks. The Senate convenes this week. It will primarily deal with the budget. This law couldn't have been considered at last week's Sejm session anyway, because it was entirely devoted to the budget” – said Deputy Marshal of the Senate, Adam Bielan, in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

This law – by Polish standards – will be presented and passed quite quickly. If the next Sejm session is in three weeks, we will present the final draft of the law within a week. We are talking not only about transparency but also about introducing certain limitations on the amount of these earnings” – he added.
