Tyszka:

I Suspect President Kaczyński Was Simply Afraid of an Attack from Schetyna
'The Civic Platform asked for Grzegorz Schetyna to be allowed to speak at the opening of the Sejm. Frankly, I was against it, given that the Civic Platform had recently not supported, and even opposed, President Adamowicz, and I did not want this death to be politicized (...) All the Marshals, except for myself, thought it was a good idea, and it was PiS that decided Grzegorz Schetyna would speak. Of course, both the marshals and President Kaczyński could have attended the opening; I suspect President Kaczyński was simply afraid of an attack from Schetyna' - stated Stanisław Tyszka in Dariusz Ociepa's program 'Breakfast on Polsat News'.

Grabiec:

We are all aware that a political sentence was passed on President Adamowicz. He was meant to disappear from public life.
We are all aware that a political sentence was passed on President Paweł Adamowicz. He was meant to disappear from public life. Institutions subordinate to politicians carried out this sentence. He was not supposed to be president, he was not supposed to be a respectable person, he was meant to disappear from political life. Later, a political death certificate also appeared, issued by colleagues of a minister from the current government. It all fits together, it is impossible to ignore this - stated Jan Grabiec in Dariusz Ociepa's program "Breakfast at Polsat News".

Buda:

In My Assessment, It Was a Criminal Murder

- In my assessment, it was a criminal murder, it was the killing of a mentally ill person, and that's how it should primarily be viewed. Let's pay attention to what we already know today. We know today that this man came to Warsaw and all along had in the back of his mind the desire to do something great - stated Waldemar Buda on Dariusz Ociepa's program "Breakfast at Polsat News".

Sawicki:

Kuchciński Always Waited for the President's Presence Before Opening Sessions

- Marshal Kuchciński, whenever he knew the President would be in the chamber, always waited for the President's presence to open the proceedings. So let the President and Marshal Kuchciński answer us, what was this absence about? What was this absence about, because in reality it is a silent cry for truth - stated Marek Sawicki on Dariusz Ociepa's program "Breakfast at Polsat News".

Neumann:

A Political Murder That Happened Before Millions

- [Father Wiśniewski's] words were spoken at the mass, at the funeral of Paweł Adamowicz, who for the last few years was subjected to hatred and slander by state services, public TV, and today's party. All of this ultimately led to a tragedy, and it's worth keeping that context in mind – stated Sławomir Neumann on TVN24's "Kawa na ławę".

- I would ask that today we don't try to dilute responsibility. If we are to forgive and end hatred, we must correctly diagnose what happened. Not everyone killed Paweł, that's not true. It's good that we know this – he continued.

- I would ask those who for a week couldn't stand the symmetrization, the description that it's everyone, to also maintain some moderation, because in the end, we must know the cause, know why it happened, so that it doesn't happen in the future – he added.

- This is a political murder that occurred. A political murder before the eyes of millions of people. And either the entire political class, including the media, will draw conclusions from this, each of us will step back, will not retweet hateful posts, but the state must also act; it cannot say that death certificates issued by Młodzież Wszechpolska [All-Polish Youth] are minor hate speech – stated the head of the Civic Platform club.

Lubnauer:

Kurski's post yesterday was outrageous. I have the impression he senses many discussions about TVP are imminent.
- For me, for instance, Jacek Kurski's post yesterday was outrageous. I have the impression he clearly senses that very soon there will be many discussions about the state of public media, about what's happening at TVP – stated Katarzyna Lubnauer on TVN24's "Kawa na ławę" (Coffee on the Bench). - This is a situation where we must very seriously discuss the role and functioning of TVP, whether it shouldn't be privatized, if we as a political class can't manage it otherwise – she added.

Zgorzelski:

President Adamowicz was an outstanding local government politician, confirmed by subsequent elections, facing two party headquarters
- President Adamowicz was an outstanding local government politician; he confirmed this in subsequent elections, facing two party headquarters, because the PO candidate was Mr. Wałęsa. Why did he win? Because he built a unique community with the citizens of Gdańsk, he led an innovative approach to co-governance with citizens in local government, in contrast to the authoritarian management that characterizes some local government officials - said Piotr Zgorzelski from PSL on Woronicza 17, hosted by Adrian Klarenbach.

11:28

Anaszewicz:

Did Everyone Pass the Exam of Community and Solidarity Thinking? Jarosław Kaczyński, Absent from a Symbolic Moment in the Sejm, and Grzegorz Schetyna, Saying 'This Doesn't Concern Me'
- I will begin with words of support for loved ones. What we have seen in the last 7 days is that thousands of people have shown how a community should function. But did everyone pass the exam of thinking on the principle of community and solidarity? Jarosław Kaczyński, who is not participating in a symbolic moment of the Sejm session, and on the other hand, Grzegorz Schetyna, who says: this doesn't concern me. Just as Poles passed this exam, politicians have failed it once again. We are discussing with Poles where to start the change, and everywhere people say: let's end this war, because this is not a war between Poles, it is a war between two camps that, instead of solving the problems of ordinary people, are preoccupied with themselves - said Dr. Marcin Anaszewicz, a collaborator of Robert Biedroń, on Woronicza 17 hosted by Adrian Klarenbach. - Kukiz has probably abandoned this idea, having supported PiS for 3 years in destroying the justice system - added Anaszewicz in response to Klarenbach's question whether he was repeating Kukiz's words.

11:34

Anaszewicz:

Our role as parties is to build a state based on two values: social dialogue and inclusivity, not exclusion
"Our role as parties is to build a state based on two values: social dialogue and sensitivity that includes, rather than excludes. Schools also have a function to teach what dialogue and social cooperation entail, how to protect others from violence, discrimination, and hate speech. Politicians have not created the conditions for such education for years" - said Marcin Anaszewicz from Robert Biedroń's nascent political group on TVP Info.

11:37

Czarnecki:

I wish this difficult time for Poland wouldn't be instrumentalized by anyone
- Grant him eternal rest, O Lord. It is we, Poles, politicians, who should draw conclusions. The Polish parliament is as it is, but unlike the lower house of the Italian parliament, there were no brawls, so perhaps the Italians shouldn't lecture us (referring to the publication in La Repubblica). We need to draw conclusions, and let everyone beat their own breast, because it's easiest to beat someone else's. Let's look for what unites us, as the priest said at the mass ordered by us together with MEPs from the PSL in Strasbourg. We should try to look for that, and I wish this difficult time for Poland wouldn't be instrumentalized by anyone - said Ryszard Czarnecki in Woronicza 17.

11:40

An Appeal: Let's Start With Ourselves, Because Otherwise We Have No Right to Urge Others to Change. I Have Great Fears That There Will Be a War Like None Before
- This is a moment when we should all humbly say: I apologize. Taking care of better language, of political culture, is not only the duty of politicians, but also of journalists or other people participating in the debate, actors. In a moment, we will hear a whole staff of people who will say: it's them. Let's start with ourselves, because otherwise we have no right to urge others to change. I have great fears that there will be a war like none before - said Piotr Apel on TVP Info.

Szczerski:

I am glad that no one questioned the President's actions and there was agreement on these moves. They all had a spirit of seeking community.
- First, a reckoning of conscience, but one's own, not someone else's. Second, action for the community. I am convinced that everything the President did this week, meetings with Churches, the diplomatic corps, and paying tribute to President Adamowicz, participation in masses in Warsaw and Gdańsk. These are good examples of how one should act. I am glad that no one questioned the President's actions and there was agreement on these moves. They all had a spirit of seeking community. Not only politicians participate in public debate, but also celebrities, the media, social media. We all must seek to uphold the principles of truth and freedom of speech, and this means responsibility for one's words - said Krzysztof Szczerski in Woronicza 17.

11:44

Szczerski:

The State Has Finally Started Prosecuting Those Inciting Criminal Acts, Exceeding All Limits. Until now, there was public pressure for politicians to ignore them, as they oppose freedom of speech
- The state has finally started prosecuting those inciting criminal acts, exceeding all limits. Until now, there was public pressure for politicians to ignore them, as they oppose freedom of speech - said Krzysztof Szczerski at Woronicza 17.

11:46

Szczerski:

The President's Seating Arrangement Was Known to Us in Advance and Communicated as Important
"I inform you that the president's seating arrangement was known to us beforehand, and it was communicated to us as something important – that this was the place within the temple, and it was very important for the president to participate in this mass," said Krzysztof Szczerski on Woronicza 17.

11:48

Mucha:

The Key is a Call for Self-Reflection Among Political Party Leaders

- I think that the key here is a call for self-reflection among political party leaders, among those who make decisions, because it's a situation where among representatives of all groupings and parties, we will find such statements that would be unacceptable. We are capable of citing such statements, regardless of whether we are talking about a right-wing, left-wing, or centrist party; there are politicians who use such formulations. This raises a question about reflection and a certain standard of public debate. Party leaders, leaders of groupings, parliamentary clubs should not tolerate this kind of activity; they should impose sanctions. Let this be a positive competition where all groupings point out: yes, regarding the statements of MP Nowak or Kowalski, we draw conclusions, we apply some internal disciplinary responsibility, we don't include them on our lists because they have made statements that cross the boundaries of public debate – stated Paweł Mucha on TVN24's "Kawa na ławę".

11:49

Zgorzelski:

It's Good the President Didn't Bring Up Where He Sat in Church. We Were All in That Church, One Should Behave with Dignity.
- It's good the president didn't bring up where he sat in church. We were all in that church, one should behave with dignity, the president offered his condolences, and that's how one should behave - said Piotr Zgorzelski on TVP Info.

11:54

Anaszewicz:

I would expect the ruling party to not only yield a pew in church, but also present a plan of action
- It's good that the President and the Prime Minister can show restraint in such situations. But that's not enough. I would expect the Prime Minister to present a diagnosis of this situation in a few days, based on data presented by, among others, the Commissioner for Human Rights regarding hate speech. I would expect not only yielding a pew in church, but also a plan of action - said Marcin Anaszewicz from Robert Biedroń's political group in Woronicza 17.

11:55

Anaszewicz:

Let's Understand President Adamowicz's Vision; For Years I've Listened and Observed How He Pursued Public Policies Against Hate Speech and Advocated for Equality
"Let's understand President Adamowicz's vision. For the past few years, I have listened and observed how he pursued public policies against hate speech, how he cared for gender equality policies," said Marcin Anaszewicz on TVP Info.

Political Week Ahead: PO-KO Convention 'Polish Woman Europe', Senate on Budget, Davos Forum, Google CEO Visit, Subcommittee on Swiss Franc Borrowers

The upcoming week in politics is dominated by the World Economic Forum in Davos, which will be attended by Prime Minister Morawiecki and President Duda. Towards the end of the week, a PO-KO convention dedicated to women's issues will take place. The CEO of Google will visit Poland, the investigative committee for VAT will question further individuals, and the Senate will address the 2019 budget bill.

Google CEO Visit. On Monday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will meet with the CEO of Google, Sundararajan Pichai, who is visiting Poland. The welcome ceremony at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister is scheduled for 13:00, followed by the meeting at 13:05. At 14:00, he will participate in the "Central and Eastern European Innovation Roundtable" debate organized by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology. A family photo is planned for 15:00.

Meeting on Teacher Salary Increases. - We are scheduled for further talks, planned for January 22. We are awaiting a written response from the unions by Wednesday, January 16, regarding the proposals presented by the Ministry of National Education - stated Anna Zalewska several days ago, announcing another meeting on teacher salary increases. January 22 falls on the upcoming Tuesday.

Davos Forum. The annual World Economic Forum will take place in Davos next week, with President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in attendance. Only the President's visit schedule is currently known. President Duda will meet with, among others, the NATO Secretary General and business representatives at the invitation of Pekao S.A. bank. Interviews, media appearances, and participation in an informal meeting of world economic leaders are also planned.

Questioning by Investigative Committee. On Tuesday at 11:00, the investigative committee for VAT will question Hanna Majszczyk, former Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance. On Wednesday, it will be Maciej Grabowski, former Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance, and on Thursday, Renata Hayder. The committee led by Marcin Horała thus resumes its work – last week's hearings were cancelled due to the murder of Paweł Adamowicz.

Senate on Budget. On Wednesday at 11:00, the first Senate session of the year will commence, focusing primarily on the 2019 budget bill. Senate committees will begin working on the budget as early as Monday. It appears the upper house will not introduce amendments – this would necessitate an extraordinary Sejm session to meet the January 27 deadline. The Senate will also address, among other matters, a draft resolution on the 100th anniversary of the inaugural session of the Legislative Sejm.

Subcommittee on Swiss Franc Borrowers. On Thursday at 11:00, a Sejm subcommittee will convene to resume consideration of four draft bills, including two presidential ones – on the principles of refunding certain amounts resulting from loan and credit agreements, and on amending the act on supporting borrowers in difficult financial situations who have taken out housing loans. The meeting was originally scheduled for a month ago but was cancelled.

PO-KO Convention. A convention of the Civic Platform-Civic Coalition will be held on Saturday – according to information from 300POLITYKA. As our sources emphasize, this convention with women's groups has been planned for several weeks. The event's slogan will be "Polish Woman Europe".

Bieńkowska:

It Was a Political Murder, Absolutely Caused by What One Side in Poland Is Doing
You know, I still can't believe it, ever since Sunday. For various reasons, because I knew Paweł. Now everyone is his friend, but I was a very good acquaintance of his, I knew him very well. I wasn't his friend - Elżbieta Bieńkowska stated in an interview with Oko.press. She added:
"I told my colleagues in Brussels that something would happen in Poland, that some terrible thing would happen. After all, a cloud of hatred hangs over us. After all, we know what has been happening for three years. For three years. Even longer, but for three years I have personally felt it, we all know it. I said it many times. However, no one ever suspected that it would lead to such an act as has happened here."
- It was a political murder and a murder absolutely caused by what one side in Poland is doing - she added.
