Friday marks the second day of mourning ceremonies following the death of Paweł Adamowicz. Until 5:00 PM, anyone wishing to pay their respects to the president can do so at the European Solidarity Centre, where his coffin has been on display since yesterday.

Precisely at 5:00 PM, national mourning, declared by President Duda, will commence across the entire country. At the same time, a funeral procession will depart from the European Solidarity Centre, making its way through the streets of Gdańsk to St. Mary's Basilica. A mass for Paweł Adamowicz will begin there at 6:00 PM, followed by an all-night vigil at the St. John's Centre at 8:00 PM.

At noon in Warsaw, President Andrzej Duda will host a New Year's meeting at the Presidential Palace with representatives from churches, religious associations, and ethnic and national minorities.

- As far as I know, the President [Duda] is to attend only the mass, to participate in these funeral ceremonies, without any speeches or political accents. Simply the presence of the President and the head of the [President's] Chancellery. That's our delegation - stated Andrzej Dera in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti," when asked about tomorrow's funeral of Paweł Adamowicz.

- We were already considering this last year at the [President's] Chancellery, serious analytical work was being done on a bill that would regulate what is happening, particularly online. However, after analyzing everything, we concluded that this is a very serious legal problem in terms of how to word it, and the most advanced work in this area is at the European Parliament level. I think a regulation covering the entire EU space would be needed here. We concluded that due to the complexity of the issue and the progress of work in the European Parliament, we will wait for those decisions from that side and will not initiate our own proposal - stated Andrzej Dera in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti," when asked about a bill concerning hate speech.

- They happen [threats against President Duda are received]. But it shows that we also have a serious problem with people's disorders. Because let's be honest, no one has personal reasons to threaten. It is often also associated with some disorders, people who have experienced some misfortune in life. Yes, we report it. Such things are reported because we cannot ignore it if someone officially writes and threatens. There must be a reaction from the authorities, and we report every such case, it is reported to the relevant services, and there is a reaction from the services - stated Andrzej Dera in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski in Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti".

- In my opinion, the practice so far has been that security was provided when there were threats against a specific person, when there was a fear that something might happen from those threats, and such security is assigned to various individuals. However, we cannot allow ourselves to be intimidated. It's not feasible for everyone in public office to have security. Then we would be living in some strange Matrix. I cannot imagine a life where everyone in public office has someone protecting them, because it would be a negation of freedom, democracy, and everything we fought for – stated Andrzej Dera in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti".

- This murder has no political dimension. The man, who spent the last 5 years of his life in prison, who was a criminal, who robbed banks, felt wronged because he was convicted during the time when a certain political camp was in power. There is no political connection, and we must not ascribe a political background to this event. Anyone who does so will, in my opinion, be responsible for raising the emotional level, aggression, which through hate speech can then, in its reception, lead to further tragedies. We should be able to assess reality as it is, without assigning characteristics it doesn't possess. This murder has no connection to politics. Unfortunately, it was an misfortune, it is a tragedy, but we must not assign a background that isn't there - stated Andrzej Dera in an interview with Wojciech Dąbrowski on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti" (Political Graffiti).

- There will indeed be state elements to this funeral. For example, military escort. We, as the government, as the current authorities, were absolutely ready for all the family's expectations. Everything that is happening around the funeral is strictly coordinated with the family. A government delegation, led by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, will also participate in this funeral. Prime Minister Gliński and Minister Szumowski will accompany him. As far as I know, President Andrzej Duda will also be present - Jacek Sasin said in an interview with Marcin Wikło on the TVP1 program “Kwadrans polityczny”.

- Tomorrow, President Adamowicz will be laid to rest, so in accordance with tradition, when such a ceremony is related to the funeral of a president or mayor, the city authorities are the organizers of the funeral, while the state elements, which we speak of, are related to military escort, and all these elements and arrangements, I think it's always worth emphasizing, were prepared in conjunction with the city authorities and with the will of the loved ones. I believe that this is the most important aspect of it all. The Council of Ministers will be represented by Prime Minister Morawiecki, along with Deputy Prime Minister Gliński and Minister Szumowski. Minister Sellin, who is also a Member of Parliament from Pomerania, will also be present. I know from the organizers that there will also be parliamentarians and councillors from Pomerania, so many politicians, regardless of the parties and beliefs they represent, will certainly participate in this ceremony - stated Michał Dworczyk in "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

- We are dealing with a tragic fact, the perpetrator of which is a criminal. A person, as everything indicates, sick, mentally ill, who had no political motives in his actions. Anyone who wants to claim otherwise, unfortunately, not only betrays the will of the family but also tries today, using this tragic event, to ignite another wave of very bad discussion - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Marcin Wikło on the program "Political Quarter of an Hour" on TVP1.

- Several months ago, the residents of Gdańsk, in democratic elections, indicated the late Mayor Adamowicz as the person to govern Gdańsk. Mr. Adamowicz represented a certain group, one could say, non-partisan local government officials or city activists, or a certain milieu that was outside the mainstream of either Civic Platform or Law and Justice. Let's remember that Mr. Adamowicz at some point parted ways with Civic Platform, or rather, Civic Platform parted ways with the mayor. In any case, it was a group that ran in the elections independently. And it seems that most obviously, Mayor Adamowicz's first deputy, a person very strongly connected with this group, the group indicated in democratic elections by the residents of Gdańsk, should bear this responsibility for the coming months. With her consent, this is precisely what has happened. However, regarding the withdrawal or not fielding our own candidate [for Gdańsk mayor], for PiS, this is a certain respect for those voters who, several months ago, indicated which group should govern Gdańsk - stated Michał Dworczyk in "Sygnały dnia" PR1.

I am not in favor of tightening laws, claiming they are a prescription and panacea for all the evils happening around us. But I think that politicians who put forward such demands should start with themselves first. They should stop using hate speech, building the conviction that they are using strong words, and sometimes too strong. And people who read this, who emulate them, sometimes amplify or intensify it – stated Krzysztof Gawkowski in a conversation with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy" (The Core of the Matter).

- We will not be a traditional left. We will be a progressive force on the political scene that is not afraid of difficult topics, such as coal and the closure of Polish mines by 2035. We will not shy away in political debate from matters concerning workers' rights, meaning that Poles should earn more and earn decently. „It appears there were neglects on the part of state services. But it seems to me that this is a murder quite similar to the assassination attempt on President Narutowicz. Because there, too, it was a madman, but he also read radical press. The assailant in Gdańsk shouted that he was doing this against Civic Platform (PO)” – said former Sejm Marshal, Radosław Sikorski, in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

„I hope the prosecutor's office will establish this, and that this man will never be released, whether from prison or from a closed institution. In 2011, I warned that the state of polarization and political emotions in Poland could lead to us having a Polish Breivik, and I remember that not everyone agreed with me then. Unfortunately, I jinxed it” - said former Sejm Marshal, Radosław Sikorski, in a conversation with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

It wasn't hate speech. If a coach says during halftime, "guys, in the second half, finish them off," that's not hate speech. I said, "one more battle, we will finish the packs, we will win this battle." It was an encouragement to fight in the next debate, not a call for political murder. Using it as an example of hate speech, I consider it unfair - said Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program "Gość Radia Zet".

- We have established that there were three such incidents around the Presidential Palace in December. Three that were reported, recorded incidents, and none of them related to that date, so it seems that what Mr. Stefan W. is saying, likely has no basis in reality - Błażej Spychalski said in an interview with TVP Info.

- I don't know why the President [Jarosław Kaczyński] wasn't there [in the Sejm during the commemoration of Paweł Adamowicz], whether he had a reason, or if it was an accident. I think it's a tertiary or quaternary detail. I wouldn't attach such importance to it; I believe there are much more important matters. I have the impression that we are going from one scandal to another - stated Zdzisław Krasnodębski in an interview with Marek Kacprzak on the WP program "Tłit". - It was clearly a very sound decision that there would be no PiS candidate for president in Gdańsk - he added.

- The murder of the Mayor of Gdańsk shocked us all. There is certainly a sharp political debate in Poland, but it is only verbal. We could return to more fair competition in politics, just like in sports - stated Zdzisław Krasnodębski in an interview with Marek Kacprzak on WP's program "Tłit".

„Through the dramatic events that took place, one could say even this week, as it was Sunday, the discussion has revived here on whether the boundaries of interpersonal relations, internal ones, especially in political aspects, are not being crossed in our country. They are, unfortunately, being crossed, but not in a religious, national, or ethnic dimension. They are being crossed in what some sociologists call an 'intertribal' fashion” - President Andrzej Duda said during a New Year's meeting with representatives of churches, religious associations, ethnic, and national minorities.

„I would very much like us, as a community of people living on this land, to be able to model our conversations with each other on how you, the state, conduct dialogue among yourselves in the Polish Ecumenical Council” - he added.

According to the latest CBOS poll, the Law and Justice party (PiS) enjoys the largest support at 39% (-2 pp.). The Civic Platform (PO) came in second with a 22% result (-2 pp.).

The next places are occupied by Kukiz’15 – 7% (+2 pp.) and PSL – 6% (-1 pp.), respectively. Below the electoral threshold are: SLD – 4%, Nowoczesna – 2%, and the Together party (Razem) – 2%.

The poll was conducted between January 10th and 17th on a sample of 744 people.

The Pomeranian Voivode has granted approval for the activation of air raid sirens across Gdańsk at noon tomorrow, following a request from Commissioner Dulkiewicz.

Gdańsk is currently holding a farewell ceremony for Paweł Adamowicz. At 5 PM, the funeral procession departed from the European Solidarity Centre. The coffin carrying the body of the murdered Mayor of Gdańsk will be transported to St. Mary's Basilica, where a solemn requiem mass will be held at 6:30 PM.  

– From the investigation, which is being conducted very intensively, it emerges, among other things, that he (Stefan W. – ed.) had planned a spectacular crime, an attack in Warsaw. Other findings indicate that the crime he planned was meant to be loud. To cause it to be very widely discussed. Indeed, these findings allow us to state, beyond any doubt today, that he was in Warsaw. We have, among other things, a flight ticket that confirms his arrival in Warsaw. However, in his own account, he indicated that while in Warsaw, he went to, among other places, the Presidential Palace, that he had considered entering the Presidential Palace grounds, he had such an intention – said Zbigniew Ziobro in an interview with Danuta Holecka on the TVP Info program "Gość Wiadomości". 

The fact of illness, at this moment, I would not prejudge that it must explain everything when it comes to his criminal behavior. According to the data we have, there are many people in the Polish population who are ill and do not pose such a threat. The matter requires assessment. A team of expert psychiatrists has been appointed by the prosecutors - said Zbigniew Ziobro in an interview with Danuta Holecka on the program “Gość Wiadomości” on TVP Info. 

There is no doubt that beyond a very thorough, in-depth investigation, which is being conducted extremely dynamically, it is also our duty to implement systemic changes, as was the case with Trynkiewicz. When it was determined that the law was imperfect and the act had to be amended so that such a person could be returned to prison and that other individuals would also be caught by the system and not be released. I think this initiative by the Minister of Health is very valuable. I would also like to announce further initiatives regarding changes to the provisions of the executive penal code in this regard.
