"The residents of Gdańsk have indicated a politician who won these elections, and therefore, in this situation, unlike other political groups, [we will not field a candidate in Gdańsk]. In our opinion, this decision is the best one," Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said in an interview with Piotr Gociek on Radio Jedynka.

07:53
Błaszczak:
The 2019 Budget Guarantees Development, Support, and is Pro-Growth
"I hope the temperature of tensions will be lower. Today's Sejm session is significant because we will be discussing the budget for 2019. This is a very good budget that guarantees the development of our country, support for groups that should receive it, and it is a pro-growth budget" - said Minister Mariusz Błaszczak in an interview with Piotr Gociek on Jedynka radio.
07:53
Bodnar:
We have a gigantic problem with hate speech. We haven't fought it effectively
- Regardless, I have the impression that it may be the case, and there are such polls, and I am somewhat inclined towards them, that the general political climate and the growing wave of hatred could have influenced the perpetrator's motivation, but I emphasize, even if that were the case, we must think about one thing. That even if this death had not occurred, if President Adamowicz had not passed away, we would still have a gigantic problem with hate speech. We haven't fought it effectively - stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".
07:59
Bodnar:
Paweł Adamowicz United Across Divisions. He Was Open to Dialogue
- Yesterday, when I was speaking with Basil Kerski, the head of the European Solidarity Centre, he told me one thing about Paweł Adamowicz. That he was ecumenical. He used that word specifically. Meaning he united across divisions. He was open to dialogue, to all those democratic values. And we must not forget this legacy – stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".
08:09
Bodnar:
If death certificates issued by MW appear, and the prosecution does nothing for 1.5 years, dismisses cases, and Paweł Adamowicz fights this alone, we have a problem
- Certainly, an amendment to the Penal Code is necessary, as there are gaps [regarding hate speech]. Stricter penalties – I’m not convinced, but definitely an expansion. However, what is very important, and most important, is the consistency of the prosecution, police, and ministries in the fight against hate speech - stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". He added:
"Let's even take the case of Paweł Adamowicz. If death certificates issued by the All-Polish Youth appear, which are a scandalous act of political attack and, in my opinion, do not benefit from freedom of speech protection, and the prosecution does nothing for 1.5 years, dismisses it after 1.5 years, and Paweł Adamowicz is left alone, one could say, fighting this on his own, then we have a problem. Because this is not the only such case. When I analyzed various cases where one could suspect some political motives behind prosecutorial dismissals, there are unfortunately quite a few of them."

PO:
January 13th Will Be a Very Sad Day in History, as Besides the Tragic Death of a Great Man, the City President, Another Person Was Destroyed – I'm Talking About Jurek Owsiak
- I think that this January 13th will be a day that goes down in history very sadly, because apart from the fact that a man died, the city president, a wonderful man, another person was also destroyed in the process. I'm talking about Jurek Owsiak. He was systematically destroyed precisely by such posts, he was destroyed on public television by showing the program “Plastusie” and other such things. Public television, which today receives subsidies from the state budget. We will soon, today in the parliamentary chamber, vote on the state budget, where another billion, over a billion zlotys, will be allocated to public television – said Ewa Kopacz in an interview with Piotr Kraśko on "Poranek" TOK FM.
08:19
- Let's wait for official information from the family. The decision that lies before the family regarding the nature of the ceremony. Whether the ceremony will be of a state or private nature, what the formula will be. We have understandings being made between the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and also by the nearest of the late Paweł Adamowicz, and I think that once the family makes certain decisions, there will also be reactions from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, and this will be published in the public domain - stated Paweł Mucha in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet, when asked if President Duda would attend the funeral of Paweł Adamowicz.
08:24
Neumann:
Today we have a great responsibility in politics, to defend Poland from hatred. To give people courage, so they are not afraid to bear good witness.
08:27
Mucha:
If Paweł Adamowicz's funeral is a state funeral, PAD will very likely attend
– I don't want to speak for the Prime Minister's Chancellery, but it is obvious that if we have declared national mourning, we have the murder of the Gdańsk mayor in the line of duty, we have such extraordinarily tragic circumstances that have moved us all, then this variant [of state funeral ceremonies] is probably also being considered, but this is not any pressure being exerted on the next of kin, because the next of kin must decide for themselves – Paweł Mucha stated in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.
– Depending on the nature of the ceremonies and the family's wishes, he expresses this kind of readiness [to participate in the funeral], that he or his representatives, as ministers of the President's Chancellery, also declared this – the presidential minister continued. – Then it is highly probable [that if Paweł Adamowicz's funeral is a state funeral, President Andrzej Duda will attend]. The President spoke of such his potential readiness – he declared.
08:34
Mucha:
PAD Couldn't Watch Monday's "Wiadomości". A Ceremony Was Underway at the Presidential Palace
- [President Duda] couldn't watch [Monday's "Wiadomości"] because a ceremony was underway. I was at the ceremony in front of the Palace of Culture and Science together with Minister Dera, while in the Presidential Palace there was a shortened ceremony, the president's New Year's meeting with diplomats during those hours, and later the president participated, I accompanied the president to the Warsaw Archcathedral, there was a requiem mass for the late President of Gdańsk - stated Paweł Mucha in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet. As the presidential minister admitted, he himself also did not watch Monday's "Wiadomości", so it would be difficult for him to comment on a program he had not seen.

“Under our petition from yesterday, which has been available online for 24 hours, 12,000 fellow Poles have already signed, a petition to dismiss the public television management, Jacek Kurski, and for changes in the way television operates. We have no response from President Kaczyński. To make matters worse, today a bill to increase TVP funding by about a billion zloty will be considered. A billion zloty is as much as WOŚP raised over 27 years, and in a few hours, a billion zloty is to go to public television, which is not fulfilling any public mission at the moment and is not uniting Poles, but rather dividing them. We believe that pressure makes sense and that solidarity will triumph over hatred. Today, we will submit a motion to reject the bill on subsidizing TVP at the first reading” – said the leader of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference in the Sejm.
10:17
As 300POLITYKA has learned, the current Sejm session has been shortened – Friday's votes have been moved to Thursday evening. This is another such situation in recent months. This week's session is – for now – the only one planned for this month.
10:27
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland has honored the memory of the late Mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, with a minute of silence. The gesture took place during the plenary session of the lower house of Parliament.
Paweł Adamowicz, who served as the Mayor of Gdańsk from 1998 until his tragic death in January 2019, was a prominent figure in Polish politics. He was known for his commitment to civic values, European integration, and his efforts to foster a tolerant and open society in Gdańsk.
The minute of silence in the Sejm serves as a solemn tribute to his life and work, acknowledging the significant impact he had on his city and on the broader political landscape in Poland. His assassination sent shockwaves across the nation, and his memory continues to be honored by many.
10:42
"An expected decision, perhaps the only possible one from the perspective of a major political party that recently lost there. This does not herald any change. A logical, normal move, resulting from the situation of accepting what has happened. It would be difficult for PiS to nominate a candidate and fight" - said Paweł Kowal in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski in Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy".
10:43
Kowal:
Adamowicz Died at His Post. He Showed All Politicians That in Poland, Politics Has Become Dangerous Due to Hatred

Schetyna:
Paweł, I Promise You Now That This Hatred That Took Your Life Will Not Destroy All That You Built
- Today we bid farewell to our colleague, our friend Paweł Adamowicz. A man we have known forever. A man whom I met in the anti-communist underground. We fought together against the communist regime, we were in the Independent Students' Association. Then, in 1990, we founded the Liberal Democratic Congress. Later, in 2001, the Civic Platform - said Grzegorz Schetyna in the Sejm.
- He was a great man, of great character, he was very brave. He was able to, he wanted to build, and he always did. He was a brave man, he was not afraid of a fight, but he dedicated his life to his beloved city, Gdańsk. It was Gdańsk that became different thanks to Paweł. He was the first among us to get involved in local government, in local authorities. And he did it in a great way, in great style - continued the PO leader.
- Paweł was killed by hatred, by insane hatred, by well-organized hatred. Hatred that was directed against a man who, along with thousands of Gdańsk residents, was building his great, proud city. But also hatred that was directed against a man who, along with millions of Poles, was so heavily involved in the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. It was then, on Sunday evening, that Paweł, like all of us, sent a light into the sky; before that light reached the sky, his soul also reached it. He then said, this is a wonderful time, a time for sharing goodness, and we will always remember that - he added.
- Paweł, I want to promise you now, on behalf of our friends, colleagues from the Civic Platform, all of us, that we will remember this, that this hatred that took your life will not destroy all that you built. It will not destroy the love for a free Poland, it will not destroy your Gdańsk, it will not destroy the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. All those things to which you dedicated your life and for which you gave your life - Schetyna emphasized.
10:47
Members of Parliament will not address the bill concerning compensation for public media during the current Sejm session. This comes as a surprise, as yesterday's schedule indicated that the Law and Justice party (PiS) intended to pass it in a single session – with the first reading planned for Wednesday and the second for Thursday.
11:28
- The city of Gdańsk will organize the funeral ceremony, with the participation of the President's family. We begin tomorrow at 3 PM with a solemn session of the Gdańsk City Council at Artus Court, which will be attended by councillors from all terms since 1990. From 5 PM at the European Solidarity Centre, the President's coffin will be laid out for 24 hours, so that the residents of Gdańsk, those who wish to say goodbye, can do so. At the same time, I inform you that a condolence book has been available at the ECS since yesterday and will remain so for as long as necessary. A condolence book will also be available at the Gdańsk City Hall until Friday, 8 PM. On Friday at 5 PM, a procession will depart to escort the President's coffin to St. Mary's Basilica through the streets of Gdańsk. One important piece of information: public transport will be free on Friday and Saturday. The coffin will be brought into St. Mary's Basilica, a Holy Mass will be celebrated on Friday evening, and until midnight, there will be an opportunity to bid farewell to the President in St. Mary's Basilica. At 12 PM on Saturday, a Holy Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Basilica - said Aleksandra Dulkiewicz during a press conference.
- On Saturday, it will also be possible to pray in St. Mary's Basilica. The basilica will be open from early morning, from 7 AM, where the President's ashes will already be present. At 12 PM, under the leadership of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Gdańsk, a funeral Mass will be celebrated for the tragically deceased, may his soul rest in peace, Mr. Paweł Adamowicz, our city's President. In accordance with the centuries-old tradition that prevailed in Gdańsk, in response to the family's request, as well as the initiative of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Gdańsk, and many voices that have reached us in recent days, President Paweł Adamowicz will be buried in St. Mary's Basilica - added Father Ireneusz Bradtke, parish priest of St. Mary's Basilica in Gdańsk.
During the press conference, it was also announced that discussions are underway between the family and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki regarding the participation of the highest state authorities in the funeral ceremony.

"For me, this is still small-mindedness. Everyone knows that it depended on them when this session would start. It started at 10:15. It could have started at 10:30. If it was a coincidence, it would have been enough to postpone the session by 15 minutes. I am surprised by this, because in this situation everyone should behave as a community and should understand the historic moment" - said the head of Nowoczesna, Katarzyna Lubnauer, in an interview with journalists.
13:39
“I prefer not to judge. I don't want to draw conclusions or interpret. For me, it's incomprehensible. We all know that they were here in the Sejm, that it's not some kind of lateness, because they were in another part of the city. I don't understand. We are bidding farewell to a friend. If someone cannot or thinks differently, that is their choice. No one can force anyone to bid farewell to someone” – said the head of the Civic Platform – Coalition of Civic Organizations club, Sławomir Neumann, in a conversation with journalists.
14:12
During a block of votes, Members of Parliament adopted the draft budget law for 2019. In total, the voting lasted approximately three hours – a break was held during this block. The bill will now be considered by the Senate at next week's session, which begins on Wednesday.

- We have issued an appeal to all mayors and town chiefs that Saturday at 12 PM is a moment for reflection, so that every mayor, every local government official, every town chief ensures an opportunity in their city, in their town to gather in the central square, so that it is a moment for reflection, so that all those who cannot be in Gdańsk, can meet each other in their own locality - said Rafał Trzaskowski during a press conference. The conference was also attended by the Mayor of Poznań, Jacek Jaśkowiak, and the Mayor of Sopot, Jacek Karnowski.
17:04
- On January 9, Paweł Adamowicz announced an appeal against the prosecutor's decision to dismiss the proceedings concerning the so-called "death certificates" issued by Młodzież Wszechpolska. Paweł did not manage to file this appeal. I have it before me now. As I am one of the injured parties, I will file an appeal against the prosecutor's decision - said Jacek Jaśkowiak during a press conference in Poznań.
- I will appeal this decision and try to use the arguments that Paweł Adamowicz presented - added the Mayor of Poznań.

„We knew [when the farewell would be], only the Marshal said 'just a moment longer.' The President came [to the office] and we went to the hall” – said the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, Ryszard Terlecki, in an interview with journalists in the Sejm (quoted by wyborcza.pl).
„I am very sorry that I wasn't there, that I didn't make it in time. It happened, and there's no reason to make a big fuss about it” – he added.

- It's primarily a crime that will shake political life, but I'm skeptical if there will be any lasting change. A more lasting change could occur if those in power in Poland wanted to very decisively take up the fight against this hatred, against hate speech online, but also offline, in public life - Marek Belka said in an interview with Diana Rudnik on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".
20:07
Belka:
I am full of admiration for Prime Minister May. The only man with guts, it turns out
- I must say that I am full of admiration for Prime Minister May. One could say, forgive me for saying so, the only man with guts, as it turns out. What Cameron did, what Boris Johnson was up to, was simply buffoonery, a complete disaster, and a disgrace for the British political class. And this woman took on the burden, against her own will in fact, to conduct Britain's exit from the European Union as best as possible and she was paid back by the House of Commons. I must say that she negotiated the best possible deal, it's just that it was impossible to please everyone – said Marek Belka in an interview with Diana Rudnik in "Fakty po faktach" on TVN24.
20:10
- President Andrzej Duda met today at the Presidential Palace with members of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT). The main topic of discussion was the situation in the media, particularly in terms of the quality of public debate - informed the Chancellery of the President.
"The Council, as a constitutional body safeguarding freedom of speech, the right to information, and the public interest in radio and television, has committed to reminding the media of the responsibility that lies with broadcasters – for the content aired, and with journalists and other participants in debates and publicist programs – for the language they use.
President Duda emphasized that particular attention must be paid to the situation of crossing the boundaries of free speech and violating good manners. According to Article 18 of the Radio and Television Act, broadcasts, programs, or other media messages must not promote actions contrary to the law, contrary to the Polish national interest, or attitudes and views contrary to morality and the common good. In particular, they must not contain content inciting hatred or discriminating on the grounds of race, disability, sex, religion, or nationality."
