Doctors from a Gdańsk hospital before noon are scheduled to provide detailed information about the health condition of the Mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, who was stabbed last night - during the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP).

At 7:00 PM, a New Year's reception hosted by President Andrzej Duda and his wife for the Diplomatic Corps will take place at the Presidential Palace.

- The injuries were very severe – a serious heart wound, a diaphragmatic wound, and wounds to the abdominal organs. The next few hours will be decisive. We implore you to support the patient and to pray for him – said Dr. Tomasz Stefaniak, Medical Director of the University Clinical Centre, at 2:30 AM. 

He explained that the surgery lasted 5 hours and that 41 units of blood were transfused. One unit is almost half a litre of blood. - His condition is very, very serious - the doctor added.

Those gathered outside the hospital received this information with shouts and applause.

A good sign might be that the doctors announced the next briefing only for noon. 

- Minister Szumowski, who is a doctor, is currently on his way to Gdańsk. The Minister of Health, who is also available on-site. He will be available to assist with any matters where the government can help, including medical issues, but not only. - The government is making every effort to help in this entire tragedy, including the family, and secondly, it is of course such an initiative that if there is any assistance needed, it would be good for the minister responsible for these matters to be on-site - added the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

“It must be said that a pro-state discussion above divisions is also needed today, which will answer the question of how such events should be organized and secured by the organizers” – stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". He added:

“Yesterday, on the streets of Polish cities, in connection with the WOŚP finale, there were nearly three times more officers securing the finale than there are on a typical Sunday at this time. In recent years, there have been fewer and fewer incidents during WOŚP. Yesterday, if it weren't for this event, there would have been no robberies or muggings across the country either. There were a few instances of can theft, but nothing more.”

According to the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, it needs to be clarified how a man with a knife appeared on stage.

- This is not, God forbid, an accusation against anyone, but as a state, we must do everything to prevent such situations from happening again. If today we talk about security companies that provide protection, perhaps over the years, within the procedures that an organizer must follow and security companies, too many behaviours have crept in that are natural, that do not trigger a red flag at the right moment. This needs to be checked. If that is the case, then the law must be adjusted so that such situations do not occur again - stated Paweł Szefernaker in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- I think that primarily, yesterday, such posts occurred from all sides, including from people who are not politicians on a daily basis but participate in public debate. Very sharp, unnecessary posts, and I will say it directly: regardless of which side of the political scene they are on, if there are individuals who lack empathy in such situations, who are not in solidarity in such situations, and who post such content online, which even adds fuel to the fire, in my opinion, there is no place in public life, politics, or the political arena for such people, regardless of which side of the political scene they are on - stated Paweł Szefernaker in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego."

- Not all politicians are behaving with dignity in this whole affair [the assassination attempt on Paweł Adamowicz]. "In reality, we constantly hear about verdicts that do not meet societal expectations, meaning they are too low or non-existent. Isn't it time for these verdicts to start appearing? Not to satisfy Mr. Kowalski, but to provide a sense of justice" - she added.

„Multiple conclusions. First and foremost, to try not to inflame emotions, but also in this case, because it's difficult to assume any motivations for this crime committed by a simple criminal, a bandit, a man who recently got out of prison and was previously involved in robbery, for example – because this is already being analyzed, assessed – to better secure such events. Because we saw that something was wrong there, in a situation where a man with a knife paraded on the stage for 40 seconds. One can imagine a very tragic situation if it turned out that he had the urge to commit further acts of this kind. So, here, an analysis is certainly needed as well, to determine what went wrong so that this happened and that this person then roamed the stage so unpunished” - said Deputy Minister Jarosław Sellin in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

„I think it is being clarified now, it is of course an unimaginable misfortune and, I think, an unforeseeable event. No one could have expected something like this. - I can confirm: a decision was made to send a government plane to pick up the wife of President [Adamowicz] - stated Joanna Kopcińska in an interview with TVN24. As the government spokesperson emphasized, Prime Minister Morawiecki made this decision. According to media reports, the plane was sent to London.
