President Duda on snap elections: No one has approached me with any initiative in this regard

- This will probably be a year of various decisions. Especially since 2019 will be an election year, and a very significant one at that. First, we will have elections to the European Parliament, then parliamentary elections, so indeed, a lot will be happening in Polish politics. I have a quiet hope that the campaign will be conducted in a good style - stated President Andrzej Duda in a conversation with Beata Michniewicz on "Political Salon at Trójka".

- I don't know anything about it for now. No one has approached me with such a demand. So, I assume that everything is happening according to the normal political calendar. No one has approached me with any initiative in this regard, that there would be any changes compared to what was planned. I assume that for now, nothing is happening in this direction - the President continued, when asked about snap parliamentary elections.

Duda Asked About Running Without Law and Justice Support: Kaczyński Repeatedly Stated I Am and Will Be a Candidate for the United Right and PiS

- I am thinking about the fact that next year is a year of big politics, because there will be elections to the European Parliament and the Polish parliament, and that for now, this is what should be focused on, and my task is to best fulfill the functions of the head of state, which Poles entrusted to me in 2015 - stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Political Salon on Trójka".

When asked if Donald Tusk's decision to run and compete against him would be a catalyst for a decision, PAD replied: - I don't look at it that way at all. There will certainly be many candidates, just as there were many candidates in previous elections. Donald Tusk will probably run, Janusz Korwin-Mikke will probably run, the PSL candidate will probably run, the candidate from the Razem party will probably run. There will be many candidates. All candidates are equal in the perspective of elections.

- Why is the editor asking this? I haven't thought about it at all. But we have heard statements, for example from Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, who repeatedly stated that I am and will be a candidate for the United Right and PiS. I haven't thought about this issue at all - said PAD, when asked about a potential run in the elections without an agreement and support from PiS. He emphasized that he is fulfilling the tasks that arise from his program commitments.

President Duda on Senate's Referendum Decision: 'I am not satisfied with it. I regret that my compatriots were not allowed to voice their opinion.'

I view it more as a defeat for a certain idea, which I consider important and which – I hope – will be realized in the future. In my opinion, the discussion about the Constitution, whether it should be amended, or perhaps a new Constitution for the Republic of Poland should be enacted, is an ongoing open discussion – stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Salon w Trójce", when asked about the presidential referendum initiative.

There's no point in going back to it, because it has happened, such decisions were made, the Senate made the decision it made. Personally, I cannot say I am satisfied with this decision. I am not satisfied with it. I regret that my compatriots were not allowed to voice their opinion. I am convinced that they would have wanted to be able to express themselves on this matter. Incidentally, the voice of "Solidarity" was the same – added PAD.

President Duda: Changes Needed to Restore Public Faith in the Polish Justice System, Which is Lacking Today

- Changes in the Polish justice system, including the Supreme Court, which is like the highest level of this justice system, are needed and should be implemented. That a whole era should finally end in the history of Polish judiciary, that a younger generation, from different times, should ultimately preside in court. Above all, I believe that changes are needed that will cause people to regain faith in the Polish justice system. Today, that faith is absent. The majority of people state that the Polish justice system requires change - stated President Andrzej Duda in a conversation with Beata Michniewicz on "Political Salon on Trójka".

President Duda: Dismissing All Supreme Court Judges and Then Justice Minister-Prosecutor General Deciding Who Can Return Was Unacceptable

- The draft [of the Supreme Court bill] was mine, but please remember that it was drafted after I vetoed previously proposed solutions, which in my opinion were unacceptable, because dismissing all Supreme Court judges and then the Minister of Justice-Prosecutor General deciding who could potentially return to that court, and who could not – I considered that unacceptable – stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Salon polityczny w Trójce” (Political Salon on Trójka).

- Because I also understood the need to carry out a reform, I proposed different solutions. It seems to me, much calmer and less radical ones. As it turns out, they also met with opposition from judicial elites, judicial circles – added PAD.

Duda:

EC is wrong. CJEU has gone too far

- I believe the EC is wrong. I stand by my opinion. I also believe that the CJEU, by ruling on this matter, which is undoubtedly an internal matter, as the regulation of the judiciary is an internal matter, has gone too far. I am discussing this with the presidents of other EU countries. I also raised this issue with Chancellor Merkel some time ago, asking her to pay attention to it, because the court is going too far and interfering too much in the internal affairs of member states, which, in my opinion, is dangerous and these are practices that threaten the sovereignty of EU states - stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Salon Polityczny w Trójce".

Duda:

There's no such thing as a CJEU ruling overturning or suspending Polish law. That's Parliament's decision
There is no such thing, even according to our Constitution, that any external ruling causes changes in our legal system. And today we have such a situation: we have the Act on the Supreme Court, this act provided for specific solutions. One of these solutions was the retirement of judges who had reached the age of 65, and this retirement took place by force of the act itself, and these judges went into retirement. Consequently, until the entry into force of the new provisions, which were adopted by the Polish parliament after the interim ruling by the CJEU, this legal status has not changed. And the law in force in Poland, and according to Article 178(1) of the Constitution, judges are bound by statutes. The situation where these judges come and think: no, the current act does not bind us, ... In my opinion, this provision of Article 178(1) of the Constitution has been simply violated, because these judges behaved as if they did not recognize the law that was in force all the time, which no one repealed at that moment, because there is no such thing as a CJEU ruling overturning or suspending Polish law. No, it is the decision of the Polish parliament, implemented in execution of course of the CJEU's ruling. But it is the parliament's decision - stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Political Salon on Trójka".

President Duda: I'd See the Point in Frequent National Security Council Meetings If Today's Opposition Took a Constructive Stance

- I would see the point in frequent meetings of the National Security Council (RBN) if the stance of the politicians forming today's opposition in Poland were also a constructive one. Instead, it is most often a stance that leads to it being called 'total opposition,' meaning against everything proposed by the ruling coalition or by myself – stated President Andrzej Duda in a conversation with Beata Michniewicz on "Political Salon on Trójka".

President Duda: Minister Cichocki is Proposed to Travel to Ukraine

- The proposal is that Minister Cichocki would go there [to Ukraine], who is, however, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, so this is de facto a strengthening of that political representation, and also a strengthening in terms of relations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - stated President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Salon polityczny w Trójce" (Political Salon on Trójka), thereby confirming the information that Bartosz Cichocki will become the ambassador to Ukraine.

Emitel CEO to 300GOSPODARKA: Friday's Agreement Between TVP and Emitel is a Christmas Gift for Viewers

More TVP programs are now appearing on digital terrestrial television.

- Importantly, this is an agreement that is beneficial for both companies – the negotiations ended with a win-win outcome. We signed it with the awareness that both companies will benefit from it - says Andrzej Kozłowski, CEO of Emitel. - One could say that the viewers won, as they gain the most from our agreement. They are receiving additional channels for free, without any extra or hidden fees.

Digital terrestrial television is received in over five million Polish homes, which constitutes as much as 1/3 of households reached by the signal delivered by Emitel.

- I am pleased that Telewizja Polska, led by CEO Jacek Kurski, decided to introduce programs to Multiplex 8. This is another step in the development of terrestrial television, which is an important platform for the public broadcaster's program distribution. I don't think we have said our last word because there is still significant development potential, including the integration of traditional television and the internet. We want to utilize our over 50 years of experience in the market in the best possible way. We are backed by the competencies and professionalism of our employees, combined with Polish and American know-how – let me remind you that Emitel has an American owner. This agreement is, of course, business in nature, but it will likely also be perceived as an example of good economic relations between Poland and the United States - says Kozłowski.
