Positive Moods in Government After S&P's Upgrade of Poland's Rating:

We must maximize this benefit.
“Today, after two and a half years, one of the world’s most important rating agencies acknowledges that our economic policy is correct,” a prominent government politician commented to 300POLITYKA regarding the decision by Standard & Poor’s to upgrade Poland’s rating to "A-" from "BBB+". Another of our interlocutors from the Prime Minister's circle emphasizes that the S&P decision is an acknowledgment of Morawiecki's policy as that of an effective manager who has proven himself a successful Prime Minister. The 300 interlocutor points out: “This is the same agency that in January 2016 ‘hit us hard’, saying our institutions were worthless, the rule of law was collapsing, the economy would decline, and the state budget would burst due to a large deficit.” The S&P decision fits into one of PiS’s key messages – about the victorious fight against VAT mafias and tax criminals – and, as we hear, will be interpreted by politicians of the ruling camp as a reinforcement of the government’s narrative. Prime Minister Morawiecki will continue his tour of the country during the last pre-election weekend – he has conventions planned in Kielce and Krakow. It can be assumed that the S&P rating upgrade will be one of the most important themes. “We must maximize this benefit,” our informant stresses. “The point is to now juxtapose this with the entire discussion that Poles remember from the winter/spring of 2016, and we are winners. And especially, the economic policy and public finance policy of Law and Justice is the winner,” he adds. Photo: Krystian Maj/KPRM

PM Dismisses "Fakt" Reports on Reconstruction: "These are completely fabricated details."

- These are completely fabricated details. We have a stable, good government. We are moving forward at full steam in many areas. I haven't read [this article], but I am very pleased with how well we are cooperating within our government. Of course, these are fabricated details - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

PM on Poland's Rating Upgrade: They Believed the PiS Government's Victory Over VAT Mafias Was a Reality
  • I'm not particularly surprised by this, because I know what the Polish economy looks like. I know its condition. It's in very good shape, so rating agencies have a tough nut to crack. They simply know perfectly well that the prospects for our budget, public debt, and GDP growth are good or very good. The same agency that downgraded us has indeed now upgraded us. But for me, it's like a road sign, this "A" is a road sign that we are heading in the right direction, primarily from the perspective of Polish families, Polish citizens. I am also far from any triumphalism. In the sense that I am glad it is a confirmation by, let's say gently, institutions that were not very favorable or are not very favorable to our government, because we have disrupted so many interests that indeed these foreign institutions sometimes do not particularly like us either - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM, commenting on S&P's decision to upgrade Poland's rating.
  • A very positive decision, because it means attracting more investors to Poland, security in financial markets, also lower debt servicing costs, and thus we can allocate more funds to our development, infrastructural, and social programs. It also confirms that we had money through the sealing of the tax system. They believed that the victory over VAT mafias achieved by the PiS government is a tangible, real, and mathematically calculable reality - added the head of government.

08:47

Morawiecki on Rostowski, Balcerowicz, and Schetyna: They spoke of a 'Second Greece,' saying 'there's no money and there won't be.' We should give them a C-

- I think if we were to propose a rating to these so-called experts, Mr. Rostowski, Mr. Balcerowicz, Mr. Schetyna, because it was they who spoke of matters like Armageddon, a 'Second Greece,' or 'the budget won't balance,' or 'there's no money and there won't be,' then in terms of rating methodology, we should give them a C-, in short: not exactly stellar - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

08:52

PM Morawiecki on S&P Decision: It Also Confirms There's Nothing Wrong Here Institutionally or with the Justice System

- The Standard & Poor’s agency essentially admitted its mistake. But there's something even more interesting that various institutions commenting haven't yet picked up on. Namely, it also confirms that there's nothing fundamentally wrong here from the perspective of institutional reforms and the justice system. And S&P also confirms that a further rating upgrade is possible because we have implemented Employee Capital Plans – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

09:01

PM:

Absolutely Unwarranted Conclusions Drawn from Very Old Private Conversations

- I have a couple of reflections here, but one of them is: what is the power of mainstream media in Poland, or foreign ones, but that's a different matter. I'm saying honestly what I think. Two and a half years ago, this information saw the light of day, and there was hardly any interest in it. After appropriate amplification, it's now, of course, a campaign topic. I would say this: absolutely unwarranted conclusions are drawn from very old private conversations. Of course, the language is informal, but I wish everyone who has a private conversation, I was then a purely private individual, not a politician, I wish everyone who has such a conversation that they would then regret nothing, not a single word. If we refer to a private conversation from that time, I can't really comment on it any other way - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM.

- I have no concerns that anything might emerge that could in any way testify negatively about me, beyond the fact that these were private conversations. I will only remind you that I was certainly very thoroughly vetted by our services, all special services, regarding bank account flows and all possible transactions, and, as I understand it, here is a certificate of morality - added the head of government.

09:09

Morawiecki:

PO and PSL boasted of pragmatic relations with Russia, but these relations were entirely one-sided
I am very pleased that this was formulated in this way. I would like to point out that this confirms that Polish foreign policy is not isolated or separated, as the opposition falsely claims again, but rather that we are capable of building alliances, because it was there that MP Holenderski, along with rapporteurs from Spain, Great Britain, and our allies, led to this type of resolution. One more thing worth emphasizing. Namely, PO and PSL boasted of pragmatic relations with Russia, but these pragmatic relations with Russia were absolutely one-sided. They served Russia exclusively. Among other things, that large gas contract, which Prime Minister Pawlak, with the consent of Prime Minister Tusk, wanted to sign for 25 years, completely making us dependent on Russian gas, was a huge scandal - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in a conversation with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM, when asked about the resolution concerning the Tupolev wreckage. - Of course, we will put pressure [on the Kremlin], and I count on the fact that Russia will be taken into account by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. This is something that is a very important act in international politics, and I hope that the wreckage will finally be returned - he added.

09:20

Prime Minister Morawiecki on the Meeting with Minister Błaszczak and Deputy Prime Minister Kaczyński: A Brief Exchange of Views

- Minister Błaszczak told us what interesting things happened during his meetings with other ministers. There was a brief exchange of views like that - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Krzysztof Ziemiec on RMF FM, when asked about the meeting in Skąpsko.

11:31

Schetyna:

Civic Coalition to File Motion to Dismiss Morawiecki as Prime Minister

- We must go back to basics and remind ourselves what is the foundation of a healthy community and a strong state. We must respond to lies, contempt, and hatred with firm opposition. That is precisely why, here in Poznań, I want to announce that as the Civic Coalition, we will file a motion to dismiss Mateusz Morawiecki from the office of Prime Minister. We will file this motion because someone who has been proven to lie cannot be Prime Minister. Someone who says: people are so stupid that it works, cannot govern. That was about you, about me, about each of you. About the nurse, the truck driver, the teacher, the salesperson we shop with. They are all stupid to him, everyone can be deceived, exploited, and tricked. How much do you have to despise Poles to talk about them like that? Only someone who truly doesn't know people, who sees them through the window of a limousine or at party-organized show-offs, can speak about them like that. If Morawiecki counts on people being stupid, he will be mistaken. Poles are a great, wise nation – stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the Civic Coalition convention in Poznań.

11:33

Schetyna to PM Morawiecki: The fact that people work honestly and hard doesn't mean they're stupid. You have no right to insult them

- Prime Minister Morawiecki – the fact that you are richer than people doesn't mean you are better than them. The fact that you consider yourself shrewder doesn't mean you are wiser. The fact that people work honestly and hard doesn't mean they are stupid. You have no right to insult them - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the Civic Coalition convention in Poznań. - The fact that Morawiecki received power from Kaczyński's hands doesn't mean Poles can't take it away from him. They can chase both of them away. They will have the first opportunity on October 21st - he added.

11:38

Schetyna:

We Must Shake the PiS Locusts from Our Nation's Healthy Tree

- For the good of Poland and its citizens, for our place in Europe, we must win these elections. Mobilize all positive forces and shake the PiS locusts from our nation's healthy tree - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Poznań.

11:45

Schetyna:

We Won't Let Poland Be Pushed Eastward, as Kaczyński Dreams

- Poland is and will remain a European country of the West. We will not allow Poland to be pushed eastward, which is what Kaczyński dreams of. We will not allow Poland to be taken out of the democratic family of friendly states within the European community – stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Poznań.

11:47

Schetyna:

Three days ago, PAD broke the law again, this time ignoring rulings from the Supreme Court and the Supreme Administrative Court. This will not go unpunished for Mr. Duda.

- Today it is starkly clear what PiS politicians are doing, what they are aiming for, how they are pushing for Polexit. Three days ago, the president broke the law again, this time ignoring rulings from the Supreme Court and the Supreme Administrative Court. This will not go unpunished for Mr. Duda. We promise it - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Poznań.

11:52

Schetyna to New Supreme Court Judges: You Will Return Every Unearned Zloty, Every Grosz Taken from Appropriated Positions to the Polish Nation

- Ladies and gentlemen judges, who unlawfully, without moral scruples, have seized the positions of Supreme Court judges, you will return every unearned zloty, every grosz taken from appropriated positions to the Polish nation. Just like the double judges of the Constitutional Tribunal. The Republic of Poland will not tolerate anarchy and lawlessness - stated Grzegorz Schetyna at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Poznań.

Jaki's Question for Trzaskowski: Will he Resign from the Extremely Partisan Presidency of Warsaw and Sign a Declaration of Resignation from Civic Platform?

- The proposal I presented to him [Rafał Trzaskowski] regarding resignation from Civic Platform is truly a test of credibility. It's about whether my esteemed competitor genuinely wants Warsaw for everyone, as he claims, or if he wants an extremely partisan Warsaw, which led to the families of Civic Platform members profiting from reprivatization. This is Warsaw's key challenge today – stated Patryk Jaki at a briefing.

- I am reiterating my question to my competitor, Rafał Trzaskowski: will he resign from the extremely partisan presidency of Warsaw and sign a declaration of resignation from Civic Platform? – asked the candidate for the Mayor of Warsaw.

12:24

Mazurek:

Schetyna's Madness Reaches Its Zenith

The current political climate in Poland is often characterized by sharp rhetoric and strong opinions. In this particular instance, the statement "Mazurek: Szaleństwo Schetyny sięga zenitu" (Mazurek: Schetyna's Madness Reaches Its Zenith) suggests a highly critical assessment of Grzegorz Schetyna's actions or statements by someone named Mazurek. Without the full context of the article or the tweet it refers to, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact subject of this criticism. However, the language used, particularly "szaleństwo" (madness) and "sięga zenitu" (reaches its zenith), indicates an extreme level of exasperation or disapproval.

Grzegorz Schetyna is a prominent figure in Polish politics, often associated with the Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska - PO), a major opposition party. Statements like this are typical of the partisan exchanges that frequently occur in Polish political discourse, where political opponents are often portrayed in the most negative light. The use of such strong language aims to discredit the opposing figure and rally support among one's own base.

The reference to a Twitter post (https://twitter.com/beatamk/status/1051055875371225088) suggests that this comment might be a reaction to a specific tweet from Beata Mazurek, a politician from the Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość - PiS) party, or a commentary on Schetyna's actions that has gained traction on social media.

To understand the full scope of this statement, one would need to examine the content of the referenced tweet or the broader context of the political debate it originates from. It likely pertains to a policy proposal, a public statement, or a strategic move by Schetyna that Mazurek and her political allies view as particularly detrimental or irrational.

12:31

Lubnauer:

Morawiecki, like Chuck Norris, wants to build bridges where there are no rivers

- Mateusz Morawiecki, like Chuck Norris, wants to build bridges where there are no rivers. Mateusz, like Chuck Norris, wants to shorten queues to doctors by extending them. Mateusz Morawiecki wants to make access to court easier, to speed up procedures by dismissing judges. Our native Chuck Norris collects more from the VAT gap than it actually amounts to - simply by printing the results. This Chuck Norris travels around Poland on roads that don't exist - simply a master! - stated Katarzyna Lubnauer at the Civic Coalition (KO) convention in Poznań. [Source]

- I have to say that we have also been traveling around Poland recently, and I assure you that we are traveling on real roads, not imagined ones, like that imagined community. Poles are not stupid, they won't buy a new Chuck Norris. They don't want a prime minister from jokes. They want serious people to govern Poland - she emphasized.

12:46

Kaczyński:

The PSL Was First an Ally of the SLD, Then of PO. It Shares Responsibility for Everything That Happened Then, Not Just in the Countryside

The late Przemysław Gosiewski repainted from red to blue. We have to repaint from green to blue. In these elections. This is not an easy task, because the PSL is strongly entrenched here, but it is a feasible task. To tackle this task with full energy, one must know, recall, who we are dealing with. The question must be asked whether the contemporary PSL is a continuation of the PSL that was finally established as the United Peasants' Movement in the 1930s, but whose roots go back to the 19th century, the 1890s, Galicia, and later similar organizations, because this movement was multi-faceted for many years, or whether this Witos-style, Mikołajczyk-style PSL is something completely different from the current one. Is it not simply a continuation of the ZSL? That party which, with the help of repression, brutal repression, manipulation and deceit, was created by the communists and served them. It must be admitted that this party showed a certain agility, but also no small perfidy, at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. It decided to play a comedy, first it changed its mind, and then it exploited the good faith of authentic peasant activists, those who truly continued the tradition of the peasant movement, the authentic one, including the Solidarity one, and in this way the late Roman Bartoszcze became its chairman. Later he was overthrown, contrary to the statute, without obtaining a proper majority, and forcibly removed from the party headquarters. That's how it happened. Thanks to this, the PSL is a continuation of the ZSL in the sense that it didn't even lose its assets. The PZPR lost, the SLD received a small part of what the PZPR had. And the PSL received everything, including influence in institutions serving the countryside, as if for the second time. Later it used this to strengthen itself in local governments, and on the other hand, it was first an ally of the SLD, and then of Platforma. It shares responsibility for everything that happened then, and not only in the countryside – stated Jarosław Kaczyński at a convention in Kielce.

12:50

Kaczyński:

PSL's rule brought nothing good to Polish countryside. If they were distinguished by anything, it was their pro-Russian stance. They even surpassed the SLD.
- Their [PSL] rule brought nothing good to the Polish countryside. What did it bring? What can we refer to? The 12-year increase in the retirement age for women. Yes, from 55 to 67. They supported it. The ban on trade for products that farmers create, that direct trade. We abolished that. That was also them. This list could be extended. All this policy, which so heavily, especially in the 90s, but later struck the countryside, was the policy of the PSL. If they were distinguished by anything, it was their pro-Russian stance. They even surpassed the SLD here - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at a convention in Kielce.

12:59

Kaczyński:

Without Credibility, Democracy is Merely a Facade, a Manipulation, a Game
What have the last nearly three years shown? They have shown that with honest governance, much, much, much more is possible than with dishonest governance. That, put simply, referring to what is calculable, there is incomparably more money. Because we do not allow for fraud, for those who have a lot to have even more by not paying taxes. This action is not yet finished, although we have certainly achieved a great deal. These funds can be properly invested, in both social and economic policy. One can announce something and then do it, fulfill promises. To be credible, and that is the foundation of politics, of democracy. Without credibility, democracy is merely a facade, a manipulation, a game. Only when those who announce something then carry it out, can one say that the democratic mechanism, the elections, truly works. And it works today. I am convinced that this truly democratic Poland can achieve a great deal in a short time; not tomorrow, but in the next few, a dozen or so years, it can go very far forward, including this land - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at a convention in Kielce.

PMM:

PiS Represents the Best Traditions of the People's Movement

- PiS represents those best traditions of the people's movement and the struggles for Poland's independence. Meanwhile, the others who call themselves the people's movement do not represent such traditions. They are entrenched here, but our task, through our policies, is to change this state of affairs - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a convention in Kielce.

13:10

PMM:

We Are Implementing the Deepest Principles of Justice and Solidarity

- This is the leitmotif of our actions. This deepest transformation that is occurring in our society, which is simultaneously a cause of despair for all liberals, Balcerowicz, Schetyna, is for us a reason for pride, joy, and a smile. It is precisely we who are implementing the deepest principles of justice and solidarity – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a convention in Kielce.

Poland's Credit Rating Upgrade Ignored by Some Mainstream Media - The Best Proof of How They Lie and Deceive Poles

- Do you remember how, as a result of a powerful attack by the media, mainstream media, which to this day, in the vast majority, stand on the side of various interest groups. For example, the significant upgrade of Poland's credit rating by the S&P agency, commented on worldwide, was not noted at all by some mainstream media. This is their shame, their lack of objectivity, the best proof of how they lie and deceive Poles - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a convention in Kielce.

13:32

PMM:

I Was Asked, Who Writes Your Programs? I Answered Truthfully, Hundreds and Thousands of Shaken Hands

- At one of the meetings, I was asked: who writes your programs? I answered truthfully that hundreds, thousands of shaken hands write them. These hands, the thoughts of these people are our great hope, our chance too – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a convention in Kielce.

13:35

PMM:

Our Program Has a Common Denominator Confirmed by S&P: PiS is the Best Steward of Polish Land

- [Our program has] a common denominator, which was recently, yesterday evening, confirmed by the largest rating agency, one of the absolutely largest rating agencies in the world, Standard & Poor's, that PiS is a good steward, the best steward of Polish land - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a convention in Kielce.

13:40

Trzaskowski:

The Debate Was Won by Warsaw Residents. They Could Hear the Views and Programs of All Candidates
We are meeting after the debate. The debate was won by Warsaw residents because they could hear the views and programs of all the candidates. They could see all the candidates live. Of course, the format of this debate did not allow for a detailed examination of the programs, but I think that thanks to what the women and men of Warsaw saw, they could form an opinion about the entire campaign, what the candidates are proposing, and most importantly, how credible they are. A very tough week lies ahead of us, the final week of the campaign, the home stretch. We will work very, very hard – stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

13:43

Trzaskowski:

I hope to face whoever reaches the second round in another debate

- I would like to announce right away that I hope to meet in the second round in another debate with whoever enters the second round. I hope that I will definitely be in this second round, and I think that this debate will allow us to get to know the entire program of these two candidates who will find themselves in the second round – stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

Trzaskowski:

Convention on Thursday, followed by 24 hours of work on the streets of Warsaw

- On Thursday, we are announcing a convention. After the convention, 24 hours of non-stop work on the streets of Warsaw. We will visit places that are important to the residents of Warsaw. This final stretch, after Thursday's convention, will last non-stop until the election silence - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

13:51

Trzaskowski:

Surely no one will be fooled into believing that Jaki, one of this government's most ideological ministers, can suddenly stand above party politics.
- First and foremost, it's evident that Patryk Jaki is very ashamed of his political party. This doesn't surprise me. Given what PiS is doing in Warsaw and Poland, one can be ashamed of a political party, and that's probably why this decision was made. However, the question of credibility has been ongoing, because Patryk Jaki is constantly pretending, changing his mind. He promised investments, but voted against them previously. He changes his stance on matters as important as vaccinations or in vitro. He consistently behaves in a way that demonstrates his credibility is effectively zero. Regarding taxes, he speaks about the importance of supporting Warsaw so that taxes are paid in Warsaw, yet he lived in our city for 10 years and only decided to pay taxes here in recent months. This is a credibility issue, and surely no one will be fooled into believing that Jaki, one of this government's most ideological ministers, can suddenly stand above party politics - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing. When asked about leaving the Civic Platform, he stated that he is not ashamed of the Civic Coalition.

Morawiecki:

Poland's Rising Rating Signals Investor Confidence and a Thriving Economy

The Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, has commented on the recent upgrade of Poland's credit rating. He stated that this positive development is a clear indication that Poland is a credible destination for investors and that its economy is experiencing excellent growth.

In a post on his official Twitter account (https://twitter.com/MorawieckiM/status/1051111482044411905), Morawiecki emphasized the significance of this assessment from international rating agencies. He believes it reflects the stability and positive trajectory of the Polish economy, which in turn attracts foreign investment. The Prime Minister highlighted this as a testament to the government's economic policies and their effectiveness in fostering a strong and developing market.

16:14

Polish Prime Minister: "We are strong through your strength, the strength of ordinary people, all Polish citizens"

- A great many things have been achieved. Precisely because we walked this path together. This difficult, uphill path, where many obstacles were thrown in our way and many more will surely be thrown under our feet. We do not have such powerful media behind us, nor international business. We are strong through your strength, the strength of ordinary people, all Polish citizens. We need you very much, with a huge request that on October 21st, you not only go and cast your vote for PiS, list number 10 is a bullseye, but also that you help us convince the unconvinced, show what keeping your word in government can mean, and likewise, keeping it in local government. We can strengthen our successes here, in the Świętokrzyskie region, and we commit to that - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Staszów.

16:20

PMM:

These Elections Are Crucial
We are facing a great test. These elections are very important. If we overcome this inertia, these cliques, these networks, then the entire Świętokrzyskie region will move forward very quickly with economic development, care for social life, public life, infrastructure, and jobs – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Staszów.

16:24

PM:

Our Competitors Have the Backing of Most Foreign Media; They Can Manipulate These Media

- Our position, you must know this, is different from that of our political competitors. They have the backing of most foreign media, they can manipulate these media. Our loudest successes, like the one yesterday evening, that a rating agency, which downgraded us 2.5 years ago, yesterday itself upgraded it back. This shows that under the rule of PiS, the prospects for economic development are good, and they have become frightened of this. The main media are trying to ignore this in silence. That is this manipulation. Therefore, we must reach people, our families, friends, and acquaintances, over the heads of these media – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Staszów.

For the First Time in Years, We Have a Chance to Remove This Strange, Corrupt Establishment from Warsaw. #JakilLive Continues

- Elections that are absolutely exceptional because for the first time in years we have a chance to remove this strange, corrupt establishment from Warsaw. I even have this slogan: "an honest capital for the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence." This is what we are fighting for, what we are struggling for. I will be at your disposal. If you have any questions, now is a good moment to ask them. Especially since many lies, untruths, and half-truths are appearing in public discourse. You know that these media arrangements are defending themselves. That is why this is a good moment to clarify all matters - stated Patryk Jaki during a conversation with internet users.

18:33

During #JakiLive: I am the only guarantee that you will see everything that has happened over the past 12 years in the Warsaw City Hall

- We are truly chasing this entire corrupt system, and I have great hope that this time we will succeed, that just as they once claimed, they laughed that Andrzej Duda could not be president, this time we will prove to them that we are capable of winning in Warsaw, but not for ourselves. We will do it to prove that Warsaw can be honest. I will say one more thing. I am the only guarantee of one thing. Namely, that you will see everything that has happened over the past 12 years in the [Warsaw] City Hall. If Rafał Trzaskowski wins, there is no question of that. I am the only guarantee that you will see the behind-the-scenes of politics, what happened with your taxes and money - stated Patryk Jaki during a conversation with internet users.

Kaczyński:
