Schetyna on the Photo of PAD and Trump: It Summarizes the Entire Visit

- Certainly, [one photo does not invalidate PAD's visit to the White House], but it is a summary of the entire visit. There wasn't much. The declaration was very similar, or close to the one that Radosław Sikorski signed in 2008 with Condoleezza Rice - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Conversation." - This visit was begged for and prayed for by the President's Chancellery, long-awaited due to the [law on the Institute of National Remembrance] - he added. As he stated, the discussion about American bases in Poland was absolutely business-like and transactional.

Karczewski on talks with the European Commission regarding the judiciary: Dialogue leads to good solutions
“We are receiving information about dialogue. If talks are being held, that's good. Dialogue leads to good solutions. I hope this dialogue will also lead to good solutions for Poland, but above all for the Polish justice system, because Poles are waiting for changes in the judiciary, they want these changes. We meet with Poles and talk. They praise us and ask for further changes, for the PiS government to act efficiently” - said Marshal Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Jedynka radio about the talks between Warsaw and Brussels.

07:49

Karczewski on PAD-Trump talks: If you talk, it's to achieve a win-win situation

The signing of the declaration of cooperation is important for us. In the long run, it will bring us benefits and will bring benefits to America. That's how it is in politics. If you talk, it's most often to achieve a win-win situation, so that both sides are satisfied. And I think that's the case after these conversations. I am convinced” - said Marshal Stanisław Karczewski in an interview with Jedynka radio about the PAD-Trump meeting.

Schetyna:

I'm Talking About a Broad Centre Party from Nowacka to Ujazdowski

- There's still [the conservative anchor]. The conservative anchor was intended to allow Civic Platform to maintain the political centre. The Christian Democrats in Germany (CDU) or the Conservative Party in Britain have introduced same-sex marriage or civil partnerships. I'm just talking about how [European Christian Democracy] evolves. I'm talking about European examples. After all, nobody here in Poland is talking about this. I'm talking about a broad centre party. A centre party from Nowacka to Ujazdowski, with a broad, strong, liberal, and also, of course, leftist, pillar and a conservative one – stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

07:52

Schetyna Suggests Possibility of SLD and PSL Joining Civic Coalition in Future Elections

- I want to win against PiS in these elections. Also [in the next elections]. Or perhaps with a broader [coalition in the next elections] - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

When asked about co-opting SLD into the coalition, he stated: - For example. And PSL, if it is in such a coalition formula, if we find common ground, then I cannot allow myself, as a politician responsible for building such a coalition, to push people or political parties, or communities away from this coalition.

07:56

Schetyna on Polls: PO is Not Running in These Elections. KO Is, and That's My Benchmark
I saw a poll where, for the first time, we were surveyed as the Civic Coalition, not as individual parties. That one was very decent - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Conversation." Asked about a poll where PO is falling, he stated: - The Civic Platform is not running in these elections. The Civic Coalition is running, and that's my benchmark. We are building it today as a good alternative to PiS. I am optimistic.

08:00

Schetyna on Polityka's Cover: I Don't Own That Tie. That's Not My Suit

- I've seen better [covers than Polityka's]. I don't own that tie. That's not my suit – stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:11

Szczerski on the White House Photo: PAD Heard So Often He'd Be Sitting, He Decided to Stand This Time

- I'll put it this way: the President [Duda] has heard so many times recently that he would be sitting, that he decided to stand this time – stated Krzysztof Szczerski in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM, when asked about the photo with Donald Trump. As he emphasized, he's responding partly with a joke because the situation is humorous.

08:15

Szczerski on the Photo: Nothing Happened That Would Warrant Resignations

- The President is very satisfied with the content of the talks, so all those who prepared the content of these talks, I think, cannot feel threatened in this matter. Nothing happened that would warrant resignations – stated Krzysztof Szczerski in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM. As the presidential minister revealed, Andrzej Duda received the pen-marker with which Donald Trump signed the declaration, and it will most likely be designated for a charity auction.

08:20

Trzaskowski:

Jaki is Not Setting the Pace. I Don't Feel That Way.

- Patryk Jaki is not setting the pace. I don't have that feeling. Unless it's about gadgets, like where we'll park a large motorboat on the Vistula. I won't compete with such gadgets. I don't have that impression, primarily because I started discussions with Warsaw residents over six months ago. In fact, I was the first to mention all the sensible proposals that have appeared in this campaign. However, when we talk about gadgets, songs, and videos, it has nothing to do with Warsaw. Should I compete with the visions of a Russian oligarch, about where to park a motorboat – said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program "Gość Radia ZET".

08:30

Trzaskowski on Debate with Jaki: I am Absolutely Ready

- There will be a debate, the campaign teams will discuss the details. I am ready for a debate with Patryk Jaki any day. I remind you that I was the first candidate to be registered, only two days ago. Let all the candidates register, let all the lists register, then we will talk about the debate – said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program “Gość Radia ZET”.

- I am talking about a debate, you versus Jaki – Lubecka pressed.

- Agreed, I am absolutely ready – Trzaskowski stated.

08:42

Trzaskowski:

PiS's Candidate Lists Include Anti-Semites and Those Who Want the EU to Collapse

- I care about Warsaw, this is my city. I would not want it to be ruled by Jarosław Kaczyński, because let's be honest, if PiS wins, that's how it will end. It won't be Patryk Jaki, but someone who will carry out every order of the chairman - said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program “Gość Radia ZET”.

- Please look at PiS's lists. There are very strange people there, primarily anti-Semites, people who would want the European Union to fall apart. These are not Patryk Jaki's people, these are PiS's people – Trzaskowski added.

08:59

Szczerski Shares an Anecdote: So Little Happens at the Presidential Palace, Even Beer Goes Stale

- I can tell a little anecdote, at the end, to lighten the mood. So little happens at the Presidential Palace that even the beer went stale. Recently, one of the President's guests wanted to have a beer at the President's place. It turned out that the only two bottles, which were purchased at the beginning of the term, had already expired. Because so little happens at the Presidential Palace - stated Krzysztof Szczerski in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

09:07

Piotrowicz on PM's meeting with Gersdorf: 'It was about making it clear she is no longer the First President of the Supreme Court'

- It was about making it clear to Professor Gersdorf that, in accordance with what President [Duda] had previously communicated, she is no longer the First President [of the Supreme Court] – stated Stanisław Piotrowicz in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti," when asked about yesterday's meeting between Prime Minister Morawiecki and Małgorzata Gersdorf.

When asked why the Prime Minister was meeting with her if she was no longer the First President, the PiS MP stated: - The Prime Minister meets with people. When pressed on whether it was an election meeting, he replied: - The Prime Minister meets with various people in Poland. Regardless of the position they hold.

09:16

Piotrowicz:

PM Told the Truth. He Even Showed How Much PO Allocated vs. What the United Right Government Allocates
I wouldn't be telling the truth if I didn't say that during that period, nothing was being built [under the PO-PSL government]. Things were being built, but I know what you, the editor, are getting at. More is being built now, and more money is being allocated to road construction – stated Stanisław Piotrowicz in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News' "Polityczne Graffiti". Of course [the Prime Minister told the truth]. He even showed how much the Civic Platform allocated, and how much the United Right government allocates – added the PiS MP.

Patryk Jaki on Plans to Narrow Jan Paweł II Avenue: "I Will Throw These Crazy Plans in the Trash"

- The Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw is here to improve the quality of life of residents, not to make everyday life more difficult, as with the narrowing of this street (Jan Paweł II Avenue – ed.). I would like to make a firm declaration. If I become the Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, I will throw these crazy plans in the trash. There will be no street narrowing until public transport is at an appropriate, high level. Enough of this crazy policy – said Patryk Jaki at a press conference.

Spychalski:

President's Visit to the USA Extremely Important. It Enhances Poland's International Security

It was a very important, very successful visit. Please consider it in the context of what happened the day before – the Three Seas Initiative. Very important declarations were made at the Three Seas Initiative, and the President, acting somewhat as an envoy for the Three Seas states, traveled to the United States. It was very, very good. This is an extremely important visit that enhances Poland's international security” – said Minister Błażej Spychalski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

PM on Frontex Expansion: The Context of Multiannual Financial Framework Negotiations Must Always Be Considered
I can say that we are certainly in the same mode of reasoning as we were at the end of the previous European Council, at the end of June. We all understand that we must first and foremost look after external borders, security, and today we will certainly focus on Frontex, in addition to Brexit, of course. In the context of Frontex, it is worth emphasizing above all that, of course, states controlling external borders must have the greatest say. We emphasize that we are ready to help both through our Border Guard, training programs, and also direct financial programs. As for the potential expansion of Frontex, the context of negotiations regarding the multiannual financial framework must always be taken into account - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Salzburg.

Mitera on Judges' Disciplinary Proceedings: "The National Council of the Judiciary is a Completely Independent Body. Disciplinary Spokespersons Are Entirely Separate Entities from Us."

We are a body, a completely independent organ. I cannot comment on the conduct or procedures of the disciplinary spokespersons, as I do not have that knowledge. They are entirely separate entities from us” - commented the spokesperson for the KRS, Maciej Mitera, on the explanatory proceedings concerning judges Bartłomiej Przymusiński and Ewa Maciejewska.

Civic Platform Appeals Ruling on Morawiecki's Remarks on Roads and Bridges. Witczak: We're Fighting for the Right to Combat Lies

- Every Pole knows that Mateusz Morawiecki is a formal participant in the election campaign. We have documented this very well, but due to a misinterpretation of the electoral code and the consideration of our arguments in a closed session, which was also outrageous, the District Court did not consider our complaint, our request for Mateusz Morawiecki's trial under electoral proceedings. We are appealing to the Court of Appeal. This time, we are counting on the impartiality of the judges and the Court of Appeal on this obvious matter – said Mariusz Witczak at a press conference.

- We are fighting for the ability to effectively combat lies in a democratic state during an election campaign, which by definition proceeds rapidly – Witczak added.

Ziobro Presents Draft Reform of the Code of Civil Procedure

The Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro, has presented a draft for a comprehensive reform of the Code of Civil Procedure. As the ministry informs, "the changes are intended to ensure that Poles have the opportunity to pursue their rights quickly and effectively, fair proceedings, and just verdicts".

"The reform introduces a series of revolutionary solutions aimed at resolving a significant portion of cases during the first hearing. It shortens citizens' path to courts – cases are generally to be heard near their place of residence. It limits the possibility of sabotaging proceedings through the submission of continuous appeals. It also guarantees the objectivity of proceedings by automatically disqualifying judges and entire courts in situations where their impartiality may be questioned," the Ministry of Justice announced in a statement.

"The goal is to resolve cases, where possible, especially minor ones, during the first hearing. If this is not possible, we want these cases to be resolved through rapid, intensive procedural action in court, rather than dragging on for years, as is happening today. This is one of the objectives of these changes, to bring courts closer to the people," Minister Ziobro argued.

Gasiuk-Pihowicz:

The President is Opening Another Dark Chapter in the Politicization of the Polish Judiciary
Despite government propaganda, the procedure under Article 7 of the EU Treaty is ongoing. Currently, representatives of the European Parliament are visiting Poland, and at their invitation, representatives of Platforma Obywatelska and Nowoczesna have met to present concrete examples of the rule of law being violated by the parliamentary majority and the PiS government. We are all well aware of the situation with the blocked Constitutional Tribunal and the three duble judges ruling there. We know about the politicization of the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS), contrary to the Constitution. Now, additional elements and examples have emerged demonstrating that this government is brutally violating the principle of the rule of law and breaking the Polish Constitution, contrary to its promises made to European institutions - stated Borys Budka at a briefing in the Sejm. - Today's meeting, which took place within the framework of the Article 7 proceedings against Poland, was held in an atmosphere of concern and disquiet about the Polish judiciary. We discussed, among other things, the Constitutional Tribunal, the KRS, the situation in the Supreme Court, as well as current events such as disciplinary proceedings against the spokesperson and the head of the largest judges' association. These disciplinary hearings of judges today and tomorrow, who have bravely and steadfastly defended the independence of the Polish judiciary, bear the hallmarks of persecution. PiS simply wants to break judicial independence, and all those being heard today and tomorrow will become symbols of their steadfast defense of the Constitution and the independence of the Polish judiciary from political influence. In my opinion, these hearings are an attempt to intimidate and break judges in Poland. By attacking the head and spokesperson of the largest judges' association in Poland, PiS is trying to intimidate all those judges who do not hold any prominent positions in the judiciary, but this will not succeed. Judges who have stood firm will continue to stand firm in defense of the Constitution and the independence of the Polish judiciary from political influence and partisan interests - said Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz. - By awarding nominations to individuals selected by the politicized KRS, people who are to sit on a body that – as more and more indicates – will be an instrument for exerting pressure on judges, the President is truly opening another dark chapter in the politicization of the Polish judiciary - added the MP from Nowoczesna.

This Weekend: PiS Convention in Warsaw Featuring Jaki, JK, PMM, and Saryusz-Wolski

This coming Saturday at 4:00 PM, the PiS convention in Warsaw will take place at the Palladium Theatre, with the participation of Patryk Jaki, Jarosław Kaczyński, and Mateusz Morawiecki. Jacek Saryusz-Wolski is also scheduled to speak.

Strategists, with whom 300POLITYKA spoke, emphasize that an important part of the convention will be Patryk Jaki's speech. The PiS candidate for the Mayor of Warsaw is expected to speak extemporaneously for over an hour, presenting various programmatic areas and issues.

"This will be a contrast to the dry speeches of Rafał Trzaskowski, who regularly promises the same things that Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz promised in 2006," argue our interlocutors.

1. Małgorzata Bednarek
2. Jan Majchrowski
3. Piotr Niedzielak
4. Tomasz Przesławski
5. Adam Roch
6. Adam Tomczyński
7. Ryszard Witkowski
8. Jacek Wygoda
9. Konrad Wytrykowski
10. Paweł Zubert

15:14

Morawiecki:

We Constantly Discuss Polish-European Affairs with Juncker, Including the Necessity of Judicial Reforms

Jean-Claude Juncker and I constantly discuss Polish-European affairs in very different contexts. I also emphasize the validity and necessity of reforming the justice system. I have the impression that the President is trying to find some possible compromise. Dialogue is certainly a value here. We emphasize that this dialogue is very important in this regard” - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

15:16

Morawiecki:

Poland's Refusal to Accept Refugees is a Clear Success, Maintaining Full Control Over the Process

“Poland has a very firm stance [on migration]. We want the conclusions from the European Council to be implemented. We also recall that it is a very clear success for Poland that we are not accepting any refugees, and this is our policy to have full control over this process” - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Salzburg.

Trzaskowski's Proposals for Żoliborz: Schools and Kindergartens, More Parking Spaces, Żoliborz Cultural Center

- These are the most important proposals. Everyone in Warsaw talks about expanding school and educational infrastructure. This is a priority in every district. Here, it's about discussing specific locations, hence the construction of schools and kindergartens at ul. Anna German, ul. Ficowskiego, and ul. Krajewskiego. This infrastructure is incredibly important, and in every district, we try to show the exact locations where this infrastructure will appear. The second issue is more parking spaces. Primarily, it concerns the expansion of Park&Ride in Marymont. This is also an incredibly important matter; we all know that this parking lot is overloaded, that many people leave their cars there and switch to public transport. In principle, that's exactly what we're aiming for. We will be expanding this type of facility. Finally, the third point is the construction of the Żoliborz Cultural Center. We know that such an institution here in Żoliborz is incredibly important – said Rafał Trzaskowski at a press conference.

President Duda: Mockery and Attacks from Leftist Media and Certain Politicians/Commentators with Known Views Highlight the Success of the Washington Visit

The provided text is a link to a tweet from Andrzej Duda's official Twitter account. Without access to the content of the tweet itself, a direct translation of the body is not possible. However, the title clearly indicates the tweet's content is a response to criticism received from what the author perceives as 'leftist media,' 'certain politicians,' and 'commentators with known views.' The author asserts that this criticism, despite its nature, actually serves to underscore the success of a visit to Washington.

17:34

Trzaskowski:

If there are outright lies, we will demand corrections in the election mode

- Today, everyone will promise anything. A person who has always voted against in vitro, a person who says they will listen to the Episcopate, in some places says they will actually think about it. A person who used offensive language towards minorities, today says they will propose a tolerant policy. A person who promises specific investments, voted against them in the Sejm. This is primarily a matter of inconsistency, but it is also a much bigger problem, simply manipulation, lies - said Rafał Trzaskowski at a Town Hall Meeting with residents of Żoliborz.

- Now we are in election campaign mode, if there are outright lies, we will of course demand corrections in the election mode, however, some information is presented so cleverly that it amounts to simple manipulation. Taking something out of context, presenting it in a different light, that's how politics looks today – added Trzaskowski.

18:50

PMM:

We Oppose What the Public Calls ACTA2, Which is Why PiS MEPs Voted Against These Regulations in the European Parliament

The last topic briefly touched upon [during the Salzburg Summit] was security and cybersecurity. Poland places enormous emphasis on the necessity of ensuring security mechanisms in cyberspace, but we also demonstrate the importance of freedom, freedom of expression. We are opposed to what is publicly referred to as ACTA2, and that is why PiS MEPs recently voted against these regulations in the European Parliament. We are in favor of freedom of speech online, we oppose any shackles imposed on expression, on the use of resources, on internet wisdom, and we care about this freedom as well as cybersecurity, meaning cyber-safety” – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

19:32

Sikorski on President Duda's US Visit: "Substantively a Zero. Image-wise, a Definite Failure for Our President"

- I think that substantively, the visit [of President Duda to the USA] was a zero. On the one hand, the presidents emphasized, renewed, and confirmed the traditional Polish-American friendship and alliance. On the negative side, we learned that the USA will not impose sanctions on companies building Nord Stream 2. This is unpleasant news and likely the end of any chances to stop this investment. Image-wise, however, it's probably a definite failure for our president. I warned him a few weeks ago that world leaders are currently avoiding talks and visits with Donald Trump because they cannot predict what he will say about these talks afterwards - stated Radosław Sikorski in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

19:36

Mucha:

The President Has No Plans to Meet Gersdorf

To my knowledge, the President does not plan a meeting [with Chief Justice Małgorzata Gersdorf]. The last such meeting took place on the last day of Małgorzata Gersdorf’s term, when the President informed Professor Gersdorf that she was retiring. [Gersdorf] is absolutely aware of the consequences of the act. She has not submitted a statement expressing her consent to continue holding her position” - stated Minister Paweł Mucha on Polsat News.

19:41

Mucha:

I believe subsequent Supreme Court appointments will proceed smoothly

I believe that subsequent appointments [to the Supreme Court] will proceed smoothly. Further resolutions from the National Judicial Council are becoming legally binding. Today's nominations are very rapid appointments. This is literally a matter of days. The Disciplinary Chamber was a priority for the President, and we do not hide this” – said the Presidential Minister, Paweł Mucha, during the program „Wydarzenia i opinie” (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

20:11

Rzepliński on the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court: It's About Intimidating Judges

- During this period of hybrid warfare being waged against the Supreme Court, at least since July of last year, when three draft laws were presented in the Sejm, including one on the Supreme Court, which the president vetoed, and then presented a draft that was perhaps even worse, from a constitutional perspective, than the one he vetoed. Based on this, such a chamber was created, there is no doubt about it, and the authorities do not hide it – it is about intimidating judges, and it is about systematic intimidation of judges – said Andrzej Rzepliński in an interview with Monika Olejnik on the TVN24 program “Kropka nad i”.

20:18

Rzepliński:

The Governing Party's Electoral Chances are Stable, So the Judiciary Can Actually Be Further Purged

- Essentially, in a safe social environment, because the governing party's electoral chances are stable, the judiciary can actually be further purged, in the name of abolishing the rule of law in Poland, in favor of the rule of individual will - said Andrzej Rzepliński in an interview with Monika Olejnik on the program "Kropka nad i" (The Dot Above the i) on TVN24.

20:23

Błaszczak:

Visit to the USA held in a very good and constructive atmosphere. The "totalists" dislike everything

- Of course, I fully agree with President Duda. At the meeting with the President, apart from President Trump, there was Vice President Pence, Mike Pompeo, National Security Advisor John Bolton, so all the most important American politicians responsible for security were present - stated Mariusz Błaszczak in an interview with Danuta Holecka on TVP Info's "Gość Wiadomości". He added:

"This visit took place in a very good, very constructive atmosphere. One can see a very good approach from our American partner here, and as for the "totalists" in Poland, well, they exist. They call themselves "totalists." They dislike everything. They are ready to do anything out of spite because they do not accept the election results from 2015. If the election results had been different, this whole concept, this project, would not have come about, nor would it have been implemented. They would have just talked and allowed abuse. They would have said there's no money. They would have liquidated the Polish Army, saying there's no money for the Polish Army and it's completely unnecessary. That was bad policy, which thankfully was changed in 2015."

20:25

Rzepliński:

I haven't spoken to Judge Gersdorf, my and her phones are likely bugged
- I haven't spoken to Judge Gersdorf, my and her phones are likely bugged, not that I'm afraid, but why should I make their job easier, they already know what I think - said Andrzej Rzepliński in an interview with Monika Olejnik on the TVN24 program „Kropka nad i” (The Dot over the i). - We are not in the position of the First President of the Supreme Court, but I certainly wouldn't agree to keep this in sweet secrecy, bittersweet, hopeless, this is about the Polish state, about its future and with a person like Mr. Morawiecki, there are no sweet secrets – Rzepliński said, commenting on Gersdorf's meeting with Morawiecki.

20:32

Rzepliński:

The PZPR's Line Was the Same as PiS's
The PZPR's line was the same as PiS's. It's not the case that all rulings must conform to a certain line. Firstly, there is no such line. The point is to avoid certain rulings, not to ensure all of them. The vast majority of rulings deal with people's affairs, people's conflicts. In reality, a line isn't needed here. A line is needed to ensure that matters of interest, important to our party comrade or our business partner, are handled in a specific court, by a specific judge - said Andrzej Rzepliński in an interview with Monika Olejnik on the program 'Kropka nad i' on TVN24.
