WASHINGTON GAME STATE: New US Ambassador Nominee Before Senate Committee: Trump Recognizes Poland's Unique Historical and Strategic Role
-- DONALD TRUMP AGAIN WRITES ABOUT KAROL NAWROCKI'S GREAT VICTORY: Such a GREAT WIN IN POLAND by Karol Nawrocki. He will be a GREAT PRESIDENT! He won because he truly loves the Polish people.

-- TOM ROSE WAS HEARD BY THE SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE FOR THE POSITION OF US AMBASSADOR TO POLAND.
-- AS WE HEAR DIRECTLY FROM POLITICAL SOURCES IN WASHINGTON, ROSE'S NOMINATION WILL BE VOTED ON BY THE SENATE ALONG WITH APPROXIMATELY 150 OTHER NOMINATIONS BY PRESIDENT TRUMP.
-- 300POLITYKA OBSERVED THE PROCEEDINGS:
-- The reporting senator highlighted his experience as a journalist covering political events such as apartheid in South Africa, transformations in the Philippines, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. His documentary about the fate of Jews was nominated for an Emmy Award. He also served as the editor of the influential newspaper "The Jerusalem Post."
-- DURING DONALD TRUMP'S FIRST TERM, HE WAS THE CHIEF STRATEGIST AND SENIOR ADVISOR IN THE OFFICE OF VICE PRESIDENT PENCE. Recently, he co-hosted a program where, according to the senator, he "clearly articulated conservative views."
-- TOM ROSE WAS PRESENTED AS A CANDIDATE WHO CAN EFFECTIVELY STRENGTHEN THE BONDS BETWEEN THE US AND POLISH GOVERNMENTS.
-- IN HIS STATEMENT, TOM ROSE EMPHASIZED THAT ALTHOUGH HE IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMAT, HE HAS DEDICATED HIS ENTIRE PROFESSIONAL LIFE TO DEFENDING AMERICAN INTERESTS AND VALUES. He identified shared values as key to Polish-American relations: freedom, sovereignty, family ties, and faith.
-- RESPECT FOR POLAND: Rose expressed deep respect for Poland's historical struggle for independence and admiration for its determination in defending freedom.
-- HE NOTED THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP ALSO RECOGNIZES POLAND AS A COUNTRY WITH A UNIQUE HISTORICAL AND STRATEGIC ROLE.
-- AMBASSADOR'S PRIORITIES: As ambassador, Rose announced he would protect and promote US interests, demanding equal treatment for American companies, supporting a fairer burden-sharing within NATO, and developing Poland's energy security through American investment. He stressed that he would act with respect for Poland's sovereignty but with "unequivocal loyalty to President Trump's priorities."
-- SENATORS' QUESTIONS:
-- Senator Steve Daines (Republican) inquired about support for Poland's national and energy security strategy.
-- ROSE PRAISED POLAND AS A MODEL ALLY, emphasizing its high contribution to NATO defense (over 5% of GDP) and investments in energy security, including the LNG terminal in Świnoujście and cooperation with Westinghouse and Bechtel in building nuclear reactors.
-- He highlighted that through this cooperation, Poland will be able to meet up to 60% of its electricity demand and RECOGNIZED POLAND AS A LEADER IN THE FIGHT AGAINST RUSSIAN ENERGY DIPLOMACY.
-- TOM ROSE THANKED MIRIAM ADELSON FOR HER SUPPORT, who was Sheldon Adelson's wife until his death in 2021. As of May 2025 estimates, her net worth was $29.5 billion. In 2024, she was the 58th richest person in the world.
-- Senator Rick Scott (Republican) asked Rose to identify what Poland could do better.
-- Rose replied that he saw no such need. ROSE STATED THAT POLAND DEFENDS NATO, HAS ACCEPTED MILLIONS OF REFUGEES FROM UKRAINE, IS AN OPERATIONAL BASE FOR US AND NATO FORCES, AND DESPITE LOCAL POLITICAL DISPUTES, IS UNITED IN KEY ALLIANCE PRIORITIES.
-- Senator Bill Hagerty (Republican) asked about Rose's role in Polish-Israeli relations.
Rose acknowledged that they are historically complex but stressed that Poland was a victim, not a perpetrator, of the Holocaust. He expressed his conviction that he can contribute to the reconciliation of the two nations, which are key US allies.

-- TUSK IS, HOWEVER, A STUPID OLD MAN (REMINDING THAT "OLD MAN" IS A SOCIOLOGICAL CATEGORY), BUT REALLY STUPID. THE "MINISTRY" FOR EQUALITY, WHICH HE JUST LIQUIDATED, HAD SYMBOLIC BUT THEREFORE IMPORTANT MEANING - MAGDALENA ŚRODA: Minister Kotula was "cost-free," she wasn't given resources, staff, or any authority; she had a few small attic rooms and thousands of discrimination-related cases, but most importantly, she had hypocritical and cynical church-affiliated politicians like Kosiniak Kamysz or Hołownia (not to mention PiS, to whom they will likely soon join), who vetoed all her interventions and equality initiatives. Tusk didn't slim down the government by eliminating this ministry; he lost the last remnants of trust from women's and LGBT communities. Stupid, stupid old man! The fact that we don't have another one speaks volumes about the great misery of Polish politics.

-- HOW EASILY DONALD TUSK CAN EXPLOIT AND THROW ANY MINISTER OVERBOARD. MEANWHILE, HE HIMSELF WILL DEFEND HIMSELF TO THE END FROM GOING DOWN WITH THE SHIP - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN INTERIA: "Government changes are generally a meaningless spectacle. Examples like Adam Bodnar or Hanna Wróblewska show how easily Donald Tusk can exploit and throw any minister overboard. Meanwhile, he himself will defend himself to the end from going down with the ship."
-- SIKORSKI HAS MOST OF TUSK'S FLAWS BUT LACKS HIS POLITICAL DEXTERITY - ZAREMBA CONTINUES: "Those who believe in the beneficial effect of such a change are mistaken. Sikorski has most of Tusk's flaws but lacks his political dexterity, which has been faltering recently but is undeniable overall. Nevertheless, this maneuver recalls that the government fish has gone bad from the head."
-- IT WAS TUSK WHO TURNED THE CIVIC COALITION INTO A PERSONAL CEMETERY - ZAREMBA FURTHERMORE: "Sikorski is in this situation the proverbial one-eyed man in the land of the blind, because he at least knows how to speak eloquently. But it was Tusk who turned the Civic Coalition into a personal cemetery. It's worth remembering that too."

-- SO FAR, WE HAVE ONLY RECEIVED COSMETIC CHANGES IN A GOVERNMENT CLEARLY WRITTEN OFF BY THE PRIME MINISTER. AND IT LOOKS LIKE A THOUGHT-OUT, BUT NEVERTHELESS VERY RISKY STRATEGY - MICHAŁ PŁOCIŃSKI IN RZ: "Instead of a real government reconstruction, which Donald Tusk announced back in February and which was supposed to happen after winning the presidential election, we have so far only received cosmetic changes in a government clearly written off by the prime minister. And it looks like a thought-out, but nevertheless very risky strategy."
-- IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO SOW ANYTHING NEW ON BARREN GROUND. SO PERHAPS A NEW VISION WOULD BE USEFUL ALREADY TODAY? - PŁOCIŃSKI CONTINUES: "This is, however, a very risky strategy. Because if, after such a grandly announced reconstruction, the government does not move "at full speed" (Tusk promised this the day after Rafał Trzaskowski's defeat), then in a few months there will be nothing left to harvest. And it will be difficult to sow anything new on barren ground. So perhaps a new vision would be useful already today?"

-- TUSK IS PREPARING SIKORSKI FOR THE ROLE OF A SHOCK ABSORBER IN 2027 - CEZARY MICHALSKI IN INTERIA: "Loyal and controversial (and therefore charismatic) Radosław Sikorski may become Tusk's political shock absorber in 2027. If the government's ratings before the next parliamentary elections are dire, Tusk will hand over the government to Sikorski, retaining either full control of the party or again taking up an international post. One that is sufficiently prominent so that Kaczyński cannot drag him to a Polish prison from there."
-- THE SCENARIO WITH SIKORSKI WOULD BE AN ATTEMPT TO REPEAT THE SCENARIO WITH EWA KOPACZ FROM 2014. SIKORSKI WILL BE SAFE FOR TUSK BECAUSE, JUST LIKE EWA KOPACZ, HE DOES NOT HAVE ANY PERSONAL FACTION WITHIN THE PLATFORM - CEZARY MICHALSKI CONTINUES: "The difference, however, is obvious. Sikorski, even as a soloist, has a greater chance of political survival in a confrontation with the Polish right than Ewa Kopacz did (against whom the Polish right used its old, good misogynistic tactics)."

-- GOVERNMENT RECONSTRUCTION WILL NOT STOP THE RIGHT FROM RUSHING FOR POWER - PRZEMYSŁAW SZUBARTOWICZ IN INTERIA: "If anyone in the ruling camp thinks that this reconstruction is a recipe for stopping the right from rushing for power, they are seriously mistaken. Some figures on the chessboard have changed, but if the strategy and tactics do not change, the electoral forecast will not change either. To win the parliamentary elections in 2027, completely different political moves are needed."

-- TUSK IS LIKE A SPANISH CONQUISTADOR, WITH ONLY ONE PATH AHEAD: VICTORY. OR POLITICAL DEATH - LESZEK JAŻDŻEWSKI IN INTERIA: "In his speech, the Prime Minister invoked the figure of Cortez, who burned (actually sank) his ships. And this metaphor is close to me. Sometimes, to win, you have to close off the path of retreat. The will to fight and ingenuity allow - with a bit of luck - to defeat an overwhelming and overconfident enemy. Tusk, like a Spanish conquistador, has only one path ahead: victory. Or political death."

-- I CANNOT SHAKE THE FEELING THAT POLISH CULTURE WILL SOON MISS MINISTER HANNA WRÓBLEWSKA - WITOLD MROZEK IN GW: "Despite all these conflicts, I cannot shake the feeling that Polish culture will soon miss Minister Hanna Wróblewska - a professional from outside the world of party politics."

-- WITH THE NEW CABINET, TUSK RETURNS TO THE STRATEGY THAT BROUGHT HIM VICTORY IN 2023 - AGATA KONDZIŃSKA AND IWONA SZPALA IN GW: "With the new cabinet, Tusk returns to the strategy that brought him victory in 2023: he focuses on accountability, meeting people, and bringing in political commandos to the government. He clearly aims to get closer to PSL."

-- WILL TUSK CUT OFF TRZASKOWSKI'S FACTION? - MARTA RAWICZ IN GAZETA.PL: "Supporters of Radosław Sikorski, on the other hand, expect further weakening of Rafał Trzaskowski's party faction and predict that in November, with further government changes (Polska 2050 representative is to become Deputy Prime Minister), Barbara Nowacka and Cezary Tomczyk may lose their positions. At the same time, as they predict, further promotions await Sikorski's entourage. - This is already happening; Marcin Bosacki recently became Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - reminds one of our interlocutors."

-- THE PRIME MINISTER HAS APPARENTLY DECIDED THAT ANY FORM OF ACCOUNTABILITY FOR HIS ACHIEVEMENTS IS OUT OF PLACE - PIOTR PACEWICZ IN OKO.PRESS: "I fear, however, that we will learn nothing about any accountability, also because it would be personally difficult for the prime minister, who was too involved in the campaign, aligning himself excessively with Trzaskowski. Tusk's statements, such as the one on May 16, just before the first round, that "no one in the world can beat such a trio as Trzaskowski, Sikorski, Tusk," could have harmed the Civic Coalition candidate. However, someone beat them, and it was someone who seemed exceptionally poor as a candidate. The mistakes made by the campaign team will remain unnamed. It's a pity, because it could have increased the trust of future voters, and at the same time might lead to self-reflection."
-- POLAND MAY SOON BE AT THE VANGUARD OF A GLOBAL CONSERVATIVE REVOLUTION, WITH INCREASING LEVELS OF VIOLENCE, ANARCHY, AND HATEFUL EXCLUSION. WAS TUSK'S SPEECH A RESPONSE TO THIS THREAT? - PACEWICZ CONTINUES: "In this text, however, I pose a general question: was Donald Tusk's speech a response to the fundamental threat we are facing in Poland and around the world, namely the "conservative revolution"?"
-- ONE COULD EXPECT THE PRIME MINISTER TO OUTLINE SOME IDEOLOGICAL ALTERNATIVE TO THE STATE AND SOCIETY THAT KACZYŃSKI, NAWROCKI, AND MENTZEN WANT TO IMPOSE ON US - PACEWICZ FURTHERMORE: "One could expect the prime minister to outline some ideological alternative to the state and society that Kaczyński, Nawrocki, and Mentzen want to impose on us. That the prime minister would finally reject the guise of right-wing mimicry, which likely buried Rafał Trzaskowski's chances, and more boldly outline his vision of "good" in politics. The key here would be to counter nationalism with his own definition of patriotism. Tusk's speech had a patriotic tone, ending with a quote from the Dabrowski Mazurka that Poland has not yet perished, but as a political speech, it lacked specificity as to what kind of Poland it should be, beyond being "good" and "ours."

-- THE EMBARRASSING SPECTACLE OF POWERLESSNESS, INFANTILISM, AND CONFIRMATION OF EVERYTHING THE MALICIOUS SAID ABOUT TUSK'S MANAGEMENT HAS ENDED. IN OTHER WORDS: THE GOVERNMENT RECONSTRUCTION PROCESS HAS CONCLUDED - GALOPUJĄCY MAJOR IN POLITICAL CRITIQUE.
-- RADEK SIKORSKI WILL BECOME DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER IN TUSK'S GOVERNMENT, WHICH SHOWS THE EXTENT OF THE LATTER'S CUNNING AND SELFISHNESS AND THE POLITICAL NAIVETE OF THE FORMER. TUSK WILL SOAK HIM IN HIS GOVERNMENTAL SLUDGE, BINDING HIM TO HIMSELF AND HIS INCOMPETENCE - MAJOR CONTINUES IN CRITIQUE: "Radek Sikorski will become Deputy Prime Minister in Tusk's government, which shows the extent of the latter's cunning and egoism and the political naivete of the former. Instead of keeping Sikorski for the next (expected) government reconstruction – as the only asset in the "Strong Poland" deck – Donald Tusk will soak him in his governmental sludge, binding him to himself and his incompetence. Thereby, he will ruin the candidacy of a potential prime minister. A kiss of death and the competition eliminated – that's the whole point."
-- AND FINALLY – PRIME MINISTER CZARNEK. ARE YOU COUNTING DOWN? - MAJOR'S CONCLUSION: "Just 2.5 more years of government, 567 threats from Giertych, sporadically sending opposition politicians to prison, 896 posts blaming Razem and the traitor Zandberg, 1456 bon mots from Hołownia, and finally – click – Prime Minister Czarnek. Are you counting down?"
