-- PRESIDENT OF RZESZÓW BANS PRIDE PARADE - Nowiny front page. -- SIEMONIAK ON ZDROJEWSKI HEADING THE WROCŁAW LIST, SASIN ON HIS ROLE - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2019/06/06 -- EPP MUST SHOW WHETHER IT WANTS TO BE A SATELLITE OF THE LEFT OR PROTECT ITS IDENTITY - KONRAD SZYMAŃSKI in an interview with DGP: “Paradoxically, it is the EPP that is in the most difficult position today. The left-liberal camp, very strong after these elections, will likely insist that the Christian Democrats passively accept their agenda. We saw this during the campaign when the Christian Democrats were disciplined by the Social Democrats on issues concerning values or loyalty to the European project, partly related to the rule of law. The EPP must answer the question of whether it wants to be a satellite of the left-liberal camp, or whether it will decide to protect its identity and show that it represents a real alternative to the liberal left. Now is the time for a choice. Its ambitious approach would first have to be confirmed by ad-hoc cooperation on specific issues. Unlike national parliaments, there are no permanent coalitions in the European Parliament; they are built from scratch on almost every political matter. The previous term shows that the grand coalition of Christian Democrats and Socialists influenced personnel decisions, but when it came to political decisions, the most important ones, related to how EU law looks and how the Union operates, there were often cracks and other coalitions were formed – the EPP with ALDE and the ECR (the faction to which PiS belongs – ed.). Nothing will change here. The ECR will maintain its readiness to build precisely these kinds of coalitions, informal ones, less visible in public discourse. Their unifying factor is mainly the common market and security policy.” -- SZYMAŃSKI ON TUSK'S GAMBLE: “Chairman Tusk is concluding his mission, and in a scandalous manner. A risky move, contrary to EU treaties, by directly engaging in the campaign of opposition groups has resulted in the opposition's defeat and Tusk's personal failure. So perhaps let us remain silent.” https://www.gazetaprawna.pl/artykuly/1416198,konrad-szymanski-hazard-tuska-przyniosl-porazke-opozycji.html -- TUSK GAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THE SENATE WAS THE OPPOSITION'S PEAK POTENTIAL - JACEK NIZINKIEWICZ IN RZ: "Donald Tusk did not establish the June 4th Movement. Or at least not directly. It turns out that not only did the European Coalition lose on May 26th, but the defeat also prevented the formation of the June 4th Movement. During his speech in Gdańsk on the anniversary of June 4, 1989, the President of the European Council announced a fight for the Senate. Tusk gave the impression that the upper house was the opposition's peak electoral potential. Lowering the bar at the start of the parliamentary campaign, which has unofficially begun, can be demotivating for the opposition. This is how much substance was in Tusk's speech." -- THE OPPOSITION LOSES EVERY DAY - CONTINUES NIZINKIEWICZ: "Time is running out, and divisions within the European Coalition and public disputes have already begun. The opposition is losing ground image-wise every day. And every conflict within the opposition strengthens the government. Another week after the EP elections, the opposition ceded victory to PiS by walkover. And here Tusk is right to say that a week of wallowing is enough, and the sad sacks will never win anything. The problem is that Tusk's speech, apart from presenting verve and determination, brought nothing new. https://www.rp.pl/Analizy/190609643-Nizinkiewicz-Slowami-Tusk-Polski-nie-zmieni.html -- PIOTR PACEWICZ ACCUSES TUSK OF NOT MENTIONING WOMEN'S ISSUES - as he writes in Oko.press: “He did not mention the challenges facing Poland in the area of women's rights; Tusk thus joined the male current of Polish politics, which underestimates the female electorate, although it is significantly more pro-opposition. And there was an opportunity when he thanked 'Madam President, dear Ola [Dulkiewicz]'. Would the crown fall from Tusk's presidential head if he said that Aleksandra Dulkiewicz is proof of how Poles, men and women, appreciate the role of women, wonderful politicians, wonderful presidents? I am sure that the dozens of women standing next to me, aged (roughly) 10-80, would have given Tusk an even bigger ovation. Especially if he had mentioned that we need to ensure that earnings are not gender-unequal.” https://oko.press/tuska-terapia-solidarnoscia-smutasy-niczego-nie-wygraja-a-jedna-lista-do-senatu-prawie-prawie/ -- TUSK LIKE GEREMEK - JACEK ŻAKOWSKI in WP: “Donald Tusk has become like Bronisław Geremek. Not because he has become – intellectually and politically – a European. But because when he walks up the political stairs, it's not certain whether he's going up or down. This used to strengthen Geremek. It might weaken Tusk.” -- NOT ENOUGH POWER TO PULL THE PLATFORM OUT OF THE DEPTHS - CONTINUES ŻAKOWSKI ON TUSK: “Donald Tusk does not have enough political power to pull the Platform and the Coalition out of the depths that are engulfing the opposition. Perhaps thanks to him, they are a little less underwater (which is not certain), but they are still significantly underwater, with no chance of gaining power. What's worse, the polls show that Tusk doesn't even have enough power today to stay afloat himself if he had to face a PiS candidate in the presidential election.” -- TOO VALUABLE TO BE PACKED ONTO A SINKING SHIP - CONTINUES ŻAKOWSKI: “Donald Tusk is too valuable a treasure for the opposition to pack him – or for him to pack himself – onto a ship doomed to sink. And the coalition ship, which Grzegorz Schetyna painstakingly built, seems doomed to sink. Why, one can argue, but the most plausible thesis is that too many old, rotten, and leaky planks were used in building this ship, and too little good new political building material – personnel and program – was added. This happened because the core of the current opposition was in power for too long, so parties of ideas became parties of apparatus.” -- THE ELECTIONS WERE LOST BY ROTTEN APPARATUSES - CONTINUES ŻAKOWSKI: “Without great risk, one can posit that the European Parliament elections were lost by the rotten, tired, and routine-bound apparatuses of the opposition parties, not by the opposition as a part of society critical of the current government. Donald Tusk knows too much about politics to decide on certain defeat in the name of solidarity with the apparatchiks rejected by the voters.” -- HE ENTRUSTED THE ROLE TO FOUR PRESIDENTS - CONTINUES ŻAKOWSKI ON TUSK: “I doubt that Donald Tusk will formally head what was meant to be the June 4th Movement and is now discreetly emerging. He has likely entrusted this role to four presidents. Or perhaps to Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, who is receiving exceptional support from him. But he wants to be the main player in the process of creating an electoral bloc that is meant to be more than just a coalition of parties and small parties.” https://opinie.wp.pl/zakowski-tusk-a-sprawa-polska-czyli-donald-czadu-opinia-6388737934821505a -- A SWEATY, AGGRESSIVE STAR OF THE THIRD REPUBLIC CAMP - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI ON TUSK: “The longer it gets after May 26th, the clearer it is how politically weak he is and how much he contributed to the European Coalition's electoral defeat. Images speak louder than words, and the message from the sweaty, unhealthily aggressive, and childishly worded star of the Third Republic's European camp is a summary of this stage.” -- HE LOST HIS SOCIAL EAR, CEASED TO DISTINGUISH THE CREATIONS OF CZERSKA AND WIERTNICZA FROM REALITY - CONTINUES KARNOWSKI: “Firstly – detachment from reality. Tusk has lost what we call social ear, which was his strength for years. He often made decisions against the radical factions within his camp, he didn't let himself be pushed towards political extremism. At least in his speeches, what he did in reality is another matter. This appearance of moderation gave him points for a long time. Now, after four years of emigration, he has ceased to distinguish the creations of the Czerska team and the Wiertnicza team from reality. He has lost alternative sources of information and analysis. He believed, for example, that the cynically stirred anti-clerical wave would drastically break the relationship between Poles and the Church. And he decided it was worth joining it. He made a big political mistake with serious consequences. Similarly, he adopted the assumption that all of Poland shares rabidly anti-PiS sentiments. But part of the establishment is not the whole country.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/449782-im-bardziej-tusk-ucieka-od-tej-porazki-tym-bardziej-tonie -- A KIND OF BUSINESS TRAINING, BUT NO BON MOTS WILL COVER THE LACK OF IDEAS - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “These are the advice of the former prime minister. In short: do what you're doing now, only harder and more. Essentially, that speech was a form of therapy meant to lift the spirits of the losers. A kind of business training. It may be important, but in politics, it actually changes very little. No rhetorical tricks or bon mots can cover up the lack of ideas.” -- THERE WERE NO CROWDS - CONTINUES KARNOWSKI: “It is worth noting that for the umpteenth time, Tusk did not attract large crowds. In Gdańsk, there were no more people than during the opposition's pre-election march in Warsaw.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/449698-po-4-czerwca-wiemy-jedno-tusk-tez-nie-wie-jak-pokonac-pis -- THE COMPARISON TO '89 LEADS ASTRAY - ADAM LESZCZYŃSKI: “Is the fight against PiS the same as the fight against communism? Donald Tusk's advice to the opposition in Gdańsk was based on this comparison. It's understandable: Tusk and most of the opposition spent their youth fighting the PZPR. But this comparison is false and leads astray. (...) Both in Tusk's speech and in the entire celebration of the 30th anniversary of June 4th, there was also a lack of reflection on the goals of the fight against communism. The participants surely remember well the 21 postulates of the striking shipyard workers in Gdańsk in August 1980. Alongside freedom of speech, we also had 'ensuring an adequate number of places in nurseries,' 'improving healthcare working conditions,' and 'reducing waiting times for housing.' The shipyard workers, like the then opposition, knew very well that man does not live by freedom of speech alone. Today, the opposition to PiS seems to have forgotten this. Tusk himself as well.” https://www.newsweek.pl/opinie/leszczynski-opozycja-walka-z-pis-to-nie-jest-walka-z-komuna/wjyqs0t -- DULKIEWICZ LIKE CAPUTOVA? - SŁAWOMIR SIERAKOWSKI in Onet: “In his speech, Donald Tusk very intelligently supported the European Coalition, helping it to build a plan. Local government officials, who organized these successful celebrations, joined in. They showed that they are the brightest side of the political elite. Rafał Trzaskowski gave an excellent speech, Jacek Jaśkowiak from Poznań and Jacek Sutryk from Wrocław also presented themselves brilliantly, and Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, whom almost no one in Poland knew until recently, has joined the forefront of Polish politics. She has just as good credentials for big politics as Zuzana Čaputová in Slovakia.” -- TUSK'S PLAN LOOKS REALISTIC - CONTINUES SIERAKOWSKI: “Tusk and the local government officials will focus on defeating PiS in the Senate. Let the coalition fight for the best possible result so as not to lose ground to the ruling camp. There's no point discussing the presidential elections yet. Tusk sees how things are. The polls are discouraging. Ambitions are always high. Local government officials have shown that there are candidates to be deputies. The plan looks coherent and realistic. We'll see how the PSL fits into this. Pressure on the agrarian party has increased.” https://wiadomosci.onet.pl/opinie/rekonstrukcja-opozycji-czyli-koniec-wielkiej-smuty-komentarz/lfbsvl8 -- A WISE UNCLE FROM BRUSSELS - MICHAŁ SUTOWSKI in Krytyka Polityczna: “On Długi Targ in Gdańsk, Donald Tusk showed that he has the gift of the gab, no doubt about it. However, all these pieces of advice from a truly wise uncle from Brussels are overshadowed by the central metaphor – an unexpected, albeit hard-won, victory over communism. A metaphor that is obvious during the celebrations of the anniversary of the June elections and completely impractical for the upcoming autumn elections.” -- HIT THE STRINGS OF TODAY'S ASPIRATIONS, NOT YESTERDAY'S GLORY - POLAND IS NOT DŁUGI TARG - CONTINUES SUTOWSKI: “Dear opposition, listen to Donald Tusk when he says to go out to Poland, not to divide the nation, and let the living not lose hope. A common list for the Senate is also an obvious obviousness. But, by the Spirit of History, abandon the political imagination of the previous era – the central metaphor that will set the next elections must be directed towards the future, not recall veteran memories from 30 and more years ago. Hit the strings of today's aspirations, not yesterday's glory. Because there are simply not enough veterans of the 1989 turning point – real and perceived, like the undersigned – and PiS is simply better at nostalgia. Poland is not Długi Targ. Even if I am sometimes sorry about it.” https://krytykapolityczna.pl/kraj/sutowski-komentarz-tusk-4-czerwca/ -- PIOTR ZAREMBA ON FAKE NEWS WITH PRUSSIAN GUARDS - WRITES ON FB: “I don't understand these calls for Prime Minister Morawiecki to go to Gdańsk on June 4th for a political rally directed against himself and his formation. The gathering was announced as a political, opposition event, and so it was. The people gathered in the Senate, in Warsaw, were, however, more restrained this time in attacking the other side than Tusk and the mayors, not to mention Wałęsa. However, a kind of information war, a total war, online, is another matter. Gdańsk was accused of organizing Prussian guards at Paweł Adamowicz's grave. And here is the truth. Before you eagerly repeat another fake news, check it (perhaps a cry in the wilderness).” https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100011509202636 -- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON THE RIGHT COMPLAINING THAT GERMANY STOLE THE END OF COMMUNISM FROM US - writes in Rzeczpospolita: “The right-wing used to complain that Germany stole the events related to the fall of communism from us, that the dismantling of the Berlin Wall became its symbol for the world, not Solidarity. However, for several years now, they themselves have been doing everything to destroy the myth of Solidarity. And although on June 4th, congratulations for Poland and Poles poured in from all over the world, PiS, with a persistence worthy of a better cause, preferred to engage in right-wing martyrology related to the fall of the Olszewski government rather than build Poland's brand as a country where the dismantling of communism began. Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki could not break free from the current political dispute to properly utilize this date.” -- SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON COMPARING PIS TO COMMUNISTS - THEY WERE JUST ELECTED FROM THE EUROPEAN COALITION LIST TO BRUSSELS: “Firstly, prominent PZPR politicians have just been elected to the European Parliament from the lists supported by Tusk's European Coalition, and Aleksander Kwaśniewski, a minister in the PZPR government, spoke before Tusk in Gdańsk. Secondly, PiS won completely free and democratic elections ten days ago. Comparing them to communists, who lacked democratic legitimacy, is a historical abuse. But alas, for both sides, history is merely a stick to beat the opponent.” https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/190609633-Szuldrzynski-Historia-kijem-sie-toczy.html -- LECH KACZYŃSKI WOULD HAVE CELEBRATED IN GDAŃSK - WŁADYSŁAW FRASYNIUK in an interview with JACEK NIZINKIEWICZ in Rzeczpospolita: “It is a historical irony that 30 years after the June 4th elections, we are discussing who drank with the communists during the talks and who didn't. Jarosław Kaczyński was not present at Magdalenka, so he doesn't know what he's talking about. I was there, so I will correct him – Lech Kaczyński drank. But for God's sake, let's not allow Kaczyński to reduce the discussion about the 30th anniversary of our freedom to whether his twin brother drank with Kiszczak or not. Lech Kaczyński deserves remembrance and respect for his contribution to the Round Table talks on the Solidarity side and for leading, along with all participants, to the fall of communism. I am convinced that if Lech Kaczyński were alive, he would celebrate the 30th anniversary of free elections with us in Gdańsk, rather than dealing with assigning positions to his party colleagues.” -- FRASYNIUK ON SCHETYNA NOT LEADING TO VICTORY: “A politician whom Poles do not trust, who consistently leads his party from defeat to defeat, has no chance of leading the opposition to victory. I don't intend to rearrange the opposition, but it's worth stepping aside and putting young, popular individuals, and those willing to work, on the front lines. Bartosz Arłukowicz, Krzysztof Brejza, Joanna Mucha, and likely many others will certainly be better faces for the opposition. Without rapid changes and proposals for Poles, the opposition has no chance. If we don't see new faces on our side, Jarosław will appear again. Kaczyński is who he is, he knew when to step aside, now he has proven he doesn't have to hide in a closet. When necessary, he transformed from an anti-European into a pro-European. Week after week, he had proposals for his voters. The opposition did not. This is a direct path to defeat.” https://www.rp.pl/Polityka/190609644-Frasyniuk-Dzis-to-Kwasniewski-staje-po-stronie-demokracji.html -- IWONA SZPALA WRITES IN GW ABOUT THE RUMOR THAT PSL WANTS TO GET RID OF SLD: “There is also a rumor circulating that the PSL wants to get rid of the Alliance from the Coalition, arguing that a turn to the left is not profitable. And pressure on the Platform has already begun. The agrarian politicians we spoke to do not deny this. – Surely the PO has drawn some conclusions from its turn to the left? – says a PSL politician, who sees the SLD in a separate bloc with Robert Biedroń's Wiosna and Lewica Razem.” -- IT WILL PROBABLY END THE SAME WAY - ANONYMOUS PO POLITICIAN IN SZPALA'S ARTICLE: “Another opinion from PO: – This is exactly what happened in the winter. Probably in February, the agrarian politicians, together with Nowoczesna and the Union of European Democrats, invited to the Koalicja Polska project. It will probably end the same way, we will go together.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,24868811,ukladanki-opozycji-psl-nie-chce-z-sld-a-sld-chce-zas-platforma.html -- CRISIS IN THE COALITION IN LOWER SILESIA - GW: “Mayor of Lubin, Robert Raczyński, leader of the Non-Party Local Government Officials, has filed a report with the prosecutor's office against the Lower Silesian Voivode from the Law and Justice party.
