-- ON THE OCCASION OF PARTY EXPENDITURES, DOMINIKA DŁUGOSZ WRITES ABOUT THE NEARLY 600 THOUSAND PLN PLATFORMA PAID FOR IBRIS AND KANTAR ANALYSES: “From the bank statements of Platforma Obywatelska, we learn, for example, that polling firms were paid from funds designated for experts. The Institute for Market and Social Research Foundation (IBRiS) prepared analyses worth 275,196 zlotys before the local elections. Similarly, Kantar, which earned almost 300,000 from commissions from Platforma. There are also companies that carried out party assignments during the campaign and deal with, for example, shaping their image online. At the beginning of the year, Platforma had over 2.5 million zlotys in its expert fund account and topped it up with an additional 1.5 million. Over the year, it spent over 4 million zlotys on experts.” https://www.newsweek.pl/polska/polityka/jak-partie-wydaja-pieniadze-pis-placi-15-mln-za-ochrone-platforma-ponad-milion-wydaje/jlm0cfk

-- ANDRZEJ STANKIEWICZ ON PAWLAK'S COMEBACK PLAN - in Onet: “Therefore – in my dream – it was quite clear. If the peasant party wins at least three seats, PSL leader Władysław Kosiniak–Kamysz will keep his position, and the chances of them starting together with Platforma in the autumn parliamentary elections will increase. If they win two seats – there will be a clash between Kosiniak–Kamysz's faction and Pawlak's supporters, the consequences of which I was unable to predict in my dream. However, if the peasant party wins only one seat or none, I dreamt that Pawlak would sideline Kosiniak–Kamysz, and his PSL would go it alone in the parliamentary elections. In my dream, Pawlak even spoke with PiS about a common government.” https://wiadomosci.onet.pl/tylko-w-onecie/sekretarz-psl-pawlak-gra-na-pis-nie-wierze/1ze2rsl

-- THE CHURCH CRISIS MAY HIT PiS AS A RICOCHET - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “The change in attitude towards religion or the Church stems from cultural shifts. Therefore, the image crisis that the Polish Church finds itself in may also herald political change. If society is changing so rapidly, the old-fashioned PiS will find it much harder to win elections without changing its policy and language. However, there is no sign of the latter.” https://www.rp.pl/Analizy/304039913-Kryzys-polskiego-Kosciola-moze-rykoszetem-uderzyc-w-PiS.html

-- CERTAIN LINES HAVE NOT BEEN CROSSED YET - ALEKSANDER SMOLAR IN KULTURA LIBERALNA IN CONVERSATION WITH JAKUB BODZIONY: “Contrary to many of my friends who predicted a coup d'état, or at least electoral fraud, I believed and still believe that certain boundaries have not yet been crossed. It is a mixed system, in which democratic elements remain strongly present: elections, media and political party pluralism, but all of this is systematically destroyed through lies, violations of the Constitution, elimination of the separation of powers, radical state centralization, in essence, its de-institutionalization. However, I am a moderate optimist. Although I take Rafał Matyja's words in an interview for your magazine very seriously, that in the current situation 'Kaczyński will do anything not to give up power.'”

-- SMOLAR TELLS BODZIONY ABOUT TUSK'S MISTAKES REGARDING TRANSFERS: “Kaczyński's victory showed that Tusk's major mistake was not making significant adjustments to social transfers. If economic success is achieved, then care should be taken to ensure that everyone participates in it.”

-- SMOLAR CRITICIZES THE OVERLY CALM APPROACH OF THE LIBERAL CAMP TO THE PiS GOVERNMENT: “But to this, radical elements of the destruction of the rule of law were also added, and I believe that 'Kultura Liberalna' approaches this topic too calmly, which is symbolized by the article by Karolina Wigura and Jarosław Kuisz in 'The New York Times'. 'For three years, while in power, PiS has tried to take control of the Constitutional Tribunal and turned public media into an instrument of government propaganda. The response of the liberal opposition was always the same: "Nazis, fascists, dictatorship!"' Did PiS really just 'try' to take control of the Constitutional Tribunal? Was the liberal opposition's only response – despite its weakness – really to shout 'Nazis, fascists, dictatorship!'?”

-- SMOLAR ON THE BANALIZATION OF WHAT PiS IS DOING - HE SAYS IN KL: “It is true that various texts, often with a different tone, appeared in your publication. You also published very interesting interviews with people of completely different views. But what I quoted was not an exception. I have a whole collection of astonishing assessments from some 'Kultura Liberalna' publicists, published in its pages or elsewhere. The banalization of what PiS is doing is very dangerous, just like mocking the opposition under the slogan 'time for the young,' as if they were pushing their way into politics through the front door.”

-- SMOLAR ON SYMMETRISTS AND ALARMISTS - IN KL: “This word was borrowed from Ivan Krastev, and it intentionally degrades the opposition side. Because if there are threats to democracy and the rule of law, then one must shout, regardless of the scale of the risk, which we never know before a catastrophe. I recently recalled, thinking about symmetrists, the academic year I spent in Bologna in 1971–1972. I met many very pleasant people there, with whom I could not talk at the same time. Their attitude towards terrorism was ambivalent, and when this was pointed out to them, they spoke of American imperialism and the Vietnam War. In other words, they were the symmetrists of that time and place.”

-- INSULTING PiS VOTERS IS SUICIDAL IF ONE PROFESSES THE IDEAL OF DEMOCRACY - SMOLAR FURTHER TO BODZIONY IN KL: “To this day, one hears here and there that people without education, who do not want democracy and know nothing about the world, vote for PiS. This is suicidal if, at the same time, one professes the ideal of democracy. In the 1990s, the modernization project had to be imposed from above. There were no conditions for negotiating it. Besides, it was accepted through democratic procedures. Today, reflection on the democratization of social consultation and decision-making mechanisms is necessary. This applies not only to Poland; the problem is widespread and is the subject of, for example, extensive discussions as a result of the 'Yellow Vests' movement. And the PiS project is paradoxically extremely individualistic, because the additional 500 zlotys or the thirteenth pension do not solve systemic problems.” https://kulturaliberalna.pl/2019/04/04/smolar-bodziony-30-lat-iii-rp-pis-po/

-- RESIGNATION POSTPONED - Grzegorz Osiecki, Bartek Godusławski in DGP: “the reconstruction will not include Czerwińska, she still has to prepare the APK.”

-- ZUZANNA DĄBROWSKA ON HOW CZERWIŃSKA IS FIGHTING - she writes in RZ: “Some politicians indicate that Czerwińska's decision to take over the department stemmed from caution. The minister allegedly lost confidence in her deputy, and taking over the department is meant to protect her from legislative surprises on his part. – As long as she is the minister, she wants to keep a clean slate – says our source from the ministry. On Wednesday, the Minister of Finance was absent during the debate on the 13th pension. It is hard to imagine a more clear-cut stance towards the government's social proposals. And is this conflict a sign of a deeper political rift or a power struggle? If so, the scope of this war is limited by the political interests of Porozumienie, Jarosław Gowin's grouping. And this interest dictates remaining in the United Right camp and remembering that it is an election year” https://www.rp.pl/Rzad-PiS/304039908-Minister-finansow-Teresa-Czerwinska-jeszcze-walczy.html

-- TOMASZ PIETRYGA ON THE STRATEGY OF CHASING THE RABBIT FIGHTING FOR TIMMERMANS' LIFE - he writes in RZ: “Frans Timmermans is desperately fighting for the post of head of the EC in the new reshuffle. For the Dutchman, who has made Polish affairs one of the flagship goals of his policy, this is a fight for his life. After the defeat in the elections to the EU structures, he may disappear not only from Brussels politics but from politics altogether, as his home party in the Netherlands has negligible support today. At the beginning of the year, Timmermans reportedly stated that pursuing Article 7 proceedings against Poland was more important than bringing the matter to a vote in the Council of the EU. Wednesday's decision shows that he has not changed his mind. He wants to chase the rabbit until the end of… his term.” https://www.rp.pl/Opinie/190409744-Timmermans-wciaz-goni--kroliczka---komentuje-Tomasz-Pietryga.html
