-- OCTOBER 3: PREMIERE OF BARTŁOMIEJ SIENKIEWICZ'S BOOK - THEORETICAL STATE: “Written in sharp language by an analyst and politician. Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, former Minister of Interior in Donald Tusk's government, author of the famous statement that 'the Polish state exists theoretically,' talks about the backstage of politics. But above all, he writes about a state that, despite the incantations of successive governments, remains alien to its citizens. What's more, the Polish state is incomprehensible and at times dramatically clumsy. In 'Theoretical State,' the author poses seemingly paradoxical questions: 'Why is the road traffic code important for the defense of courts?', 'Is school in Poland a form of demoralization?', 'Why are landfill fires a warning of potential war?'. Sienkiewicz ponders what can be done to make the state in Poland effective, not theoretical. He presents his prescription for Polish ailments in an original, often surprising way. He does not shy away from admitting his own mistakes. He is ruthless in unmasking the hypocrisy of Polish politics.” https://arbitror.pl/produkt/panstwo-teoretyczne/
-- TRAILER FOR THE GOOD CHANGE: Good Change – the official trailer for Konrad Szołajski's new film. “The first Polish documentary about... the good change. Its protagonists are two women, representing two sides of our country's political division. We observe them in their daily lives, trying to understand what and why divides them. Both feel like patriots, but for Marta, patriotism has a national and Catholic hue, while for Tita – European and liberal. The film is their intimate portrait, and at the same time, a reliable social document about contemporary Poland. The film's protagonists know nothing about each other, they participate in demonstrations on opposite sides of the barricade, separated by barriers and police cordons. Will it ever be possible for them to talk to each other?” https://youtu.be/3TIxjOohwkc

-- LET'S SWAP BUDAPEST FOR STOCKHOLM, OR THE ERRORS AND DISTORTIONS OF PIS REGIONAL POLICY - PIOTR WÓJCIK IN KRYTYKA POLITYCZNA: “A political rapprochement with the Nordic countries would undoubtedly increase investment from the North, from which we would gain significantly more than from partnership within the Three Seas. The Polish economy currently needs innovation above all, which will increase productivity along the Vistula. Again, innovation is in the North, not the South. In the latest Global Innovation Index ranking, Sweden ranked third in the world, Finland seventh (just behind the USA), and Denmark eighth. The highest-ranked Three Seas country, Austria, was only 21st, and the next, the Czech Republic, 27th. The technological advancement of the Nordic Council and Three Seas economies is therefore incomparable. Beyond technological potential, we can also draw institutional know-how from the Nordics. Close political cooperation with the Nordic Council would allow Poland to adopt many good practices, which we will undoubtedly not learn from the Three Seas partners.”
-- WE HAVE MORE IN COMMON WITH THE NORDICS - PIOTR WÓJCIK CONTINUES: “We have a lot in common with the Nordics – distrust of Russia, support for the EU's expansion to include more Central and Eastern European countries, even skepticism towards the euro (only the Finns adopted the common currency). The Northern countries can provide us with technologies (including military), slightly greater energy security, serious military partnership, and a set of good institutional practices. All these things are futile to seek among the Three Seas countries. Meanwhile, structures in the North already exist – it would be enough to expand the NB8 format to include Poland. We have turned our backs on the Baltic, and it is precisely there that our vital interests are concentrated and where our natural allies lie. Instead, we want to build a regional partnership with countries that do massive business with Russia, and for whom Berlin's opinion will always be more important than Warsaw's. If we want to truly leverage our position in the EU through active regional policy, we will achieve it faster through an alliance with Stockholm than with Budapest.” http://krytykapolityczna.pl/swiat/ue/zamienmy-budapeszt-na-sztokholm-czyli-bledy-i-wypaczenia-polityki-regionalnej-pis/
-- PATRYK JAKI IN GAZETA STOŁECZNA ON WARSAW AT 500% CAPACITY: “Warsaw is developing and is beautiful. However, I believe that Warsaw can do more. We are losing to regional capitals in terms of metro development – even Romania and Bulgaria. Roads? Even Minsk has built two ring roads. Waste management? Again, Warsaw is at the bottom of the rankings. Spatial planning? Here we are losing even to Wrocław or Poznań, which have more plans. I no longer want to hear that it can be done there, but it cannot be done in Warsaw. Enough!”
-- JAKI RETURNS TO THE TOPIC OF PRAGMATIC VERSUS IDEOLOGICAL WARSAW: “Most importantly: I want to present a model for governing Warsaw focused not on ideology, but on problem-solving. I will not deal with rainbows, but build nurseries and improve transport. If a rainbow does not appear, I will not build it. If it appears, I will not tear it down. I want to be a pragmatic president, not an ideological one.”
-- IDEOLOGICAL DISCUSSIONS BELONG IN THE SEJM - JAKI CONTINUES: “Ideological discussions should take place in the Sejm and Senate, not in local government. In the Sejm and Senate, a person affiliated with a party defends certain views, ideologies.”
-- I WAS THE FIRST TO FILE A MOTION TO DELEGALIZE NEO-FASCISTS - JAKI SAYS: “But I was the first to file a motion to delegalize a neo-fascist organization, after a publication on television. If organizations or individuals directly refer to fascism, they should be prosecuted by the relevant authorities.”
-- AS PRESIDENT OF WARSAW, I WILL USE THE POWERS OF THE REPRIVATIZATION COMMISSION - JAKI STATES IN GW: “It depends on the election results. The commission has powers that the city hall can use today and does not. If I were to become president, the commission would not be needed, as I would use my own powers. And the handing over of Varsovians' property to the privatization mafia will end. http://warszawa.wyborcza.pl/warszawa/7,150427,23976651,wybory-samorzadowe-2018-patryk-jaki-robie-swoje-codziennie.html#sondaz
-- AGATA KONDZIŃSKA ON THE 'PALACE KEEPING GROUP' - writes in GW: “Kędryna ironizes: – Of course, there is a Krakow group, but please write that I am the oldest in it. Because when something like this appears in the media, it's much easier for me to get official matters done afterward. Kolarski similarly: – Yes, the Krakow group is extremely influential, and anyone who knows art history can assign names. The group is not accidental. Duda and Kędryna have been friends since Krakow primary school and scouts. Kolarski is a friend of the president from both scouting and high school; he was in the same class as Agata Kornhauser-Duda. Szczerski's acquaintance with the president dates back to the first PiS government in 2005-07. Duda was Deputy Minister of Justice, Szczerski – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,23976952,grupa-trzymajaca-palac-ujawniamy-kto-naprawde-stoi-za-polityka.html
-- WP WRITES ABOUT FEARS BEFORE THE WARSAW DEBATE: “Says a politician familiar with the course of Wednesday's meeting: – Szostakowski was stretching the string, playing for time to postpone the debate. They don't really want this debate. There is fear that Rafał might lose it, because there will be an 'plowing' of the Civic Platform's governance in the capital from all candidates, and he will inevitably have to account for Hanka [Gronkiewicz-Waltz - ed.]. Trzaskowski has avoided direct confrontation with any of the candidates so far. He is winning in the polls, so he has no interest in risking a confrontation with Jaki and the rest of the 'plankton'.”
-- KAMIŃSKI PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN DEBATE NEGOTIATIONS - WP CONTINUES: “Meeting participants unanimously report in conversation with us that Michał Kamiński, former PiS and PO politician, now supporting Jacek Wojciechowicz, president of the Warsaw Development Institute and former deputy mayor, played a key role in the negotiations – which might be surprising. – He cornered Szostakowski – claims our interlocutor. – He told Rafał's campaign manager that they were putting on a show, that they wanted a 'debate about debates,' and that Rafał's people were doing everything to prevent this debate. Szostakowski softened, Kamiński proposed a debate on three television stations, indicated organizational arguments, and suggested negotiations with the media to Piotr Ikonowicz – recounts a meeting participant.”
-- KAMIŃSKI ALLEGEDLY SAID HE WAS STARTING TO BELIEVE IN JAKI'S POSSIBILITY OF WINNING - WP CONTINUES:“The next meeting of campaign managers is planned for Friday. This time it is organized by representatives of Patryk Jaki. Michał Kamiński, a former PiS spin doctor and advisor to Ewa Kopacz, allegedly praised them in a private conversation with a friend, stating that... 'for the first time, he believed that Jaki had a chance to win these elections.' This is because Kamiński considers Rafał Trzaskowski's campaign to be fatal.” https://wiadomosci.wp.pl/debata-kandydatow-na-prezydenta-warszawy-kulisy-negocjacji-kaminski-dociska-po-i-chwali-sztab-jakiego-6299814442088065a?amp=1&__twitter_impression=true
-- TIMMERMANS STRENGTHENED BY CONFLICT WITH POLAND - KATARZYNA SZYMAŃSKA-BORGINON: “Frans Timmermans is currently the strongest commissioner in the EU. Paradoxically, the dispute with Poland contributed to this. He is almost certain to have a second term as commissioner, even though the Dutch Labour Party, to which he currently belongs in the Netherlands, doesn't mean much. The most strengthened him was bringing the rule of law case in Poland to the ECJ and the Council of the EU. 'He rose to become a hero of the rule of law. An unyielding man,' said one EC official. 'He even defeated Juncker and Selmayr themselves, who wanted to sweep the rule of law issue in Poland under the rug.'” https://www.rmf24.pl/newsamp-timmermans-herosem-praworzadnosci-druga-kadencje-ma-w-kiesze,nId,2637203
-- ADAM SZOSTKIEWICZ FAIRLY POSITIVE ABOUT DUDO AT THE UN: “His informal meetings in New York also show a diplomatic difference. President Duda spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu, but also with the head of the Palestinian Authority, Abbas, whom the White House is currently ignoring. He also met, in a sense traditionally, with Ukrainian President Poroshenko, whom the Kremlin is now ignoring. A Polish politician has Polish duties, and since his country still belongs to the European Union, he also has European duties, not exclusively transatlantic ones. This time, President Duda gave the impression of understanding this. If only he could apply his defense of international law as the basis for order and cooperation in the world to the situation in his own homeland…” https://www.polityka.pl/tygodnikpolityka/swiat/1765544,1,bliskie-spotkania-prezydenta-jak-duda-wypadl-w-onz.read
-- WHO IS AMUSED BY ANNA GRODZKA - Aleksandra Klich, Krzysztof Pacewicz in GW: “Anna Grodzka, Pole of the Century? Why not? The right wing ridicules what it doesn't understand. Anna Grodzka, as the first transgender MP in our country, is a symbol for millions of Polish women and men of tireless struggle against prejudice and faith in the fact that there are no limits that cannot be overcome. That is why we gladly accepted the proposal from our readers to include her among a hundred other candidates for Pole of the Century.” http://www.wysokieobcasy.pl/wysokie-obcasy/7,100865,23975777,anna-grodzka-polka-stulecia-kogo-bawi-transseksualizm.html
-- FAKT ASKS IF A PIS MP WRITES LAW FOR HIS WIFE'S BUSINESS: “He, Krzysztof Kubów (34), is a PiS MP interested in waste management issues in the Sejm. She, Barbara Kubów (40), is an enterprising businesswoman whose company deals with waste collection. The coincidence of surnames is not accidental – they are married. Krzysztof Kubów encountered the topic of waste 12 years ago when he became an assistant to the then Civic Platform MP, Piotr Cybulski (63). https://www.onet.pl/?utm_source=fakt_viasg&utm_medium=nitro&utm_campaign=allonet_nitro_new&srcc=ucs&pid=d8af070f-396c-5e01-a0d3-e6f8112ca145&sid=f13b499b-dba8-44e4-a9ae-cb9ebb087cc8&utm_v=2
