STATE OF PLAY: Śpiewak: I sympathize with Biedroń, Domagalski: Will Morawiecki make concessions like with the IPN Act? Bielecki: Perhaps it was seen as a new signal from Poland

-- PIOTR ZAREMBA WILL WRITE ABOUT THEATER IN POLITICAL THEOLOGY: "I don't want to write classic reviews, although it may happen that I describe a performance as an example of a certain phenomenon. However, I am not a theater critic, and I don't aspire to review every theatrical performance in detail. I would certainly like to reflect on theater as a meeting place for creators and audiences. To see how artistic intentions, thoughts, and ideas clash with audience expectations."

-- ZAREMBA ON CONSERVATIVES' ATTITUDE TOWARDS ART: "Conservatives – which is quite understandable – are distanced from contemporary culture. Sometimes this is determined by an objective factor, namely the liberal-left orientation of art. But I wouldn't turn my back on it. I don't feel like it's a foreign, hostile world where one is doomed to wander. Although I myself am quite critical of the changes that have occurred in theater in recent years, I would like to participate in the discussion about it. To write about what is important to me, about directors and actors whom I had the opportunity to meet on my path, about their work. Sometimes to pose a question to them, or to engage in dialogue, not always polemical, because I myself am sometimes delighted by something in the theater. I think this will also be interesting for conservative readers."

-- THE CITY SMOGS INTENSELY - front page of Gazeta Stołeczna: "There is no money for furnace renovation in the kindergarten at ul. Wawelska, although it is the biggest smog-emitter in the area. This winter, as much as 25 tons of coal will be burned here again. Another 15,000 other furnaces will contribute, the replacement of which is proceeding far too slowly in Warsaw."

-- THE COMMISSION IS DELAYING THE COMPLAINT AGAINST POLAND - Tomasz Bielecki in GW: "– Perhaps it was seen as a new signal from Poland that needs to be carefully assessed. And to wait for news about the outcome of Gersdorf's conversation with Morawiecki – an EU official tells us, who was not present at the deliberations."

-- WILL THE PRIME MINISTER MAKE CONCESSIONS ON JUDICIAL REFORM LIKE WITH THE IPN ACT - Marek Domagalski in RZ: "What can be done? It would require certain concessions from the authorities, and the sooner they occurred, the easier it would be to implement them. It would certainly require another "corrective" amendment to the Act on the Supreme Court, restoring, for example, the active status of President Gersdorf, and perhaps some judges. (...) The case of the annulment of the criminal provisions in the IPN Act, contested worldwide, is an example of such a concession by the current authorities, and an effective one at that."

-- SURPRISE IN BRUSSELS AND WARSAW - Grzegorz Osiecki in DGP: "After the meeting, there were suggestions that it was a gesture towards Brussels, intended to weaken the will to refer a complaint against Poland to the EU Court of Justice regarding the Supreme Court Act. PiS would prefer to avoid further evidence of conflict with Brussels during the election campaign. Nevertheless, when it turned out that the Commission had not made a decision regarding the letter to the ECJ, the reaction of government officials was also one of surprise."

-- POLITICS IS FULL OF TRAITORS, NOWACKA MUST REMEMBER THAT THOSE WHO BETRAY WILL BE BETRAYED - JAN ŚPIEWAK in an interview with Aleksandra Gieracka and Jolanta Kamińska in Interia: "Nowacka gave me her word that she would not support Trzaskowski, if only because her right-hand woman in Warsaw and best-rated councilor Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz is our candidate for deputy mayor. Nowacka, by siding with Trzaskowski, betrayed her. Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska behaved similarly once in the Polska Jest Najważniejsza party, Grzegorz Napieralski did the same with the Partia Biało-Czerwoni. Politics is full of traitors. Nowacka must also remember that those who betray will be betrayed."

-- ŚPIEWAK ON THE FACT THAT PO AND PIS DIFFER LITTLE: "And this is said by Nowacka, who just six months ago said there was no place for PO at women's demonstrations? These people have had many chances to resolve matters important to women or sexual minorities. And they did nothing! Did Nowacka suddenly believe that they will do it now? It's all about the seat. I have no intention of swapping PiS for a "light" version of PiS, and that's what Platforma is. It breaks rules, but with kid gloves, it grabs companies, but with kid gloves, it grabbed the Constitutional Tribunal, but with kid gloves. In local government, it is truly evident that these parties differ in nothing."

-- ŚPIEWAK SAYS HE IS COUNTING ON A SECOND ROUND, BUT IF IT DOESN'T HAPPEN, HE WON'T SUPPORT ANYONE OR TRZASKOWSKI: "My voters have their own minds. They will make their own decisions. We want both candidates to declare that they will implement the program we are running with.

– And yet you leave a door ajar.

– And still, I won't support anyone, although I would like our demands to be met."

-- ŚPIEWAK: I SYMPATHIZE WITH BIEDROŃ - HE CONTINUES TO INTERIA: "I sympathize with Robert Biedroń. I will certainly gladly talk to him. We are already cooperating in Warsaw with people who cooperate with him. It's the same environment.

– Should a "third force" emerge on the Polish political scene before the parliamentary elections?

– I see no other way. We need someone who will bring it all together and who will not go the way of Palikot, who decided to base everything on one person, and it fell apart. A centrist-left bloc must emerge on the Polish political scene. Robert Biedroń has a huge chance to do it."

-- TWO MEMBERS OF JAKI'S COMMISSION ARE PUBLISHING A BOOK ABOUT THE BACKSTAGE OF THE REPRIVATIZATION COMMISSION - WP REPORTS: "Who behaves like Janek from "Wesele"? Who were the hackers attacking? What piece of clothing is Patryk Jaki fond of? To which minister did the members of the verification commission want to build a gazebo? Who is Pani Małgosia, the equivalent of "Pani Basia" from Ucho Prezesa? Answers to these questions in excerpts from the book "The Jaki Commission. Time for Reckoning," which WP is publishing first. They wrote it for half a year. And it's finally coming out – in the midst of the most intense campaign in history, focusing the attention of voters across Poland, the presidential campaign in Warsaw. "The Jaki Commission. Time for Reckoning" – this is the title of the first book about the backstage of the verification commission's operation, authored by two of its members – Dr. Bartłomiej Opaliński and Adam Zieliński. The first sat on the commission on behalf of the PSL, the second – as a representative of Kukiz'15."

-- TRUMP OSTENTATIOUSLY SHOWED THAT HE DOES NOT ACCEPT THE GLOBAL LEFT'S AGENDA TOWARDS POLAND - JACEK KARNOWSKI: "Theoretically, precisely in this area, the US President could relatively cheaply gain a few points in the eyes of the left-wing establishment. However, he chose loyalty to his ally. Trump is a tough negotiator; he won't give us much for free, we are fully aware of this. But he showed in Washington that he takes the alliance with Poland seriously. And finally: if not for his victory in the USA, Poland would have even less room to maneuver in the area of state reform. Hillary Clinton would perhaps be even more aggressive than Brussels. And we could not resist the combined American-EU pressure for long."

-- THERE IS NO QUESTION OF DEFEAT - Michał Szułdrzyński in RZ: "Given all this, the balance of the visit is favorable for Poland. Yes, it could have been even more favorable, but there can be no talk of a catastrophe – if we set aside political emotions."
