Tusk After EU Summit:
We Need to Fix Various Things That Predecessors Either Messed Up, Couldn't Handle, or Voted For.
- I am very, very satisfied, I must say, because it has been a total of 13 hours of continuous discussions on matters serious for Poland, but what was most important for me, as we informed earlier, was dismantling this threat, particularly for Polish households and car users, related to the so-called ETS2, i.e., the climate fee or tax. Different people call it different things - stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference in Brussels.
- We need to fix various things that predecessors either messed up, couldn't handle, or voted for, as was the case, for example, with this additional climate target for 2040, and this also brings certain problems, or they couldn't disarm or take some of the teeth out of ETS2, meaning this climate fee, which was supposed to come into effect as early as 2027 - he continued.
- So when I say I'm more satisfied than tired, it's because we managed to incorporate the key word for us, which is "revision," meaning changes to this project when it is needed according to member states, and this does not yet guarantee it, but it offers the possibility, and that was essentially the fight for, to postpone, to block so that it doesn't come into effect in 2027 - said the head of government.
