"We’ve Thought It Through, We Know What We Will Do": Berek on the So-Called Wind Turbine Act

Michał Olech

Let’s start with terminology. The adoption of an act by the Sejm and the Senate and its presentation to the President is an expression of the political majority's will, the parliamentary majority's will, as to how the act should look. The President can sign it or make a different decision. The claim that this is blackmail is some kind of misunderstanding of normal, ordinary processes. The President either agrees or disagrees – stated Maciej Berek on the program “Poranek TOK FM”, when asked about relations with the president in connection with various legislative processes. - This act [the “wind turbine” act] has two large modules. The first is related to security guarantees concerning energy prices. The second module serves the same purpose, i.e., to lower energy prices, but through a different tool and in the long term; it is about increasing the chances for the development of onshore wind energy. If the president does not sign this act, both these issues will return, because both are socially necessary to implement – he continued. - Once we have the president’s decision, we will say what we do next. We have thought it through, we know what we will do. It’s not as if we can say, “Oh, the president didn’t sign, so too bad, prices will rise.” No, we will continue to strive to ensure that these prices do not rise – he concluded.
