Żurek on Leaving the Judiciary:

If Politicians Aiming to Introduce an Authoritarian State Come to Power Again, My Immunity Will Be Worthless.

- This was the most difficult decision of my life, and I won't hide it. And indeed, I was very attached to my mission in the courts. I recently even celebrated my 30th work anniversary, so I realized how long I've been working there - stated Waldemar Żurek in the program “Fakty po faktach” on TVN24, when asked about his decision to leave the judicial profession.

- Indeed, I am burning bridges behind me, or as the Prime Minister said: the ship has been burned. But I realized a few things. Of course, it's not that Judge Żurek is irreplaceable and can change reality. However, in a situation where politicians aiming to introduce an authoritarian state come to power again, my immunity will be worthless, my years of hard work will be for nothing - he continued.

- I know, because these politicians are openly saying it, that there will be no more dragging out the process of dealing with the enemy. And that's how they view independent judges, independent prosecutors. So I had no illusions. Either we try now to reach society, to reform the courts, or we won't find a place for ourselves in this country and will have to seek refuge in emigration, or we will end up in prison. I am truly saying this without dread, without fear - Waldemar Żurek concluded.
