PARTNERSHIP TEXT
Safety and Cooperation – The KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation announces a competition for financial support for Volunteer Fire Brigades (OSP) throughout the country. Units have the opportunity to receive co-financing for the purchase of firefighting and medical rescue equipment. The program's value is PLN 5 million.
Donations from the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation will be awarded to the best projects focused on acquiring essential equipment for rescue and firefighting operations. The equipment will aid in preventing and mitigating the effects of natural disasters, extreme weather phenomena, or technical failures, all contributing to enhanced safety for the nation's residents.
– Volunteer Fire Brigades are an incredibly important component of our country's safety system. OSP members are always present where help is needed. KGHM has been supporting Volunteer Fire Brigades nationwide for years. Today, we wish to announce the launch of a new KGHM Foundation program for OSP, valued at PLN 5 million. I thank President Tomasz Zdzikot for this significant initiative – said Jacek Sasin, Minister of State Assets, during the competition's inauguration.
– The specifics of working at KGHM mean we particularly appreciate the importance of all institutions that safeguard security and intervene in situations of danger. Therefore, on one hand, we continuously develop our Mining and Metallurgy Rescue Unit, which is among the best in the world, and on the other, we have been involved in supporting, among others, Volunteer Fire Brigades for years. The program we are initiating today is an extension of our long-term cooperation and our contribution to strengthening the national rescue and firefighting system – stated Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
– I would like to thank you for these funds. This money will be allocated to safety. These are resources that will enable us to have the tools to save the lives and health of those who are injured – said Paweł Hreniak, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Subcommittee for the Development and Promotion of Volunteer Fire Brigades.
"KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation for OSP"
The primary objective of KGHM's competition is to enhance the effectiveness of rescue and firefighting operations and ensure the safety of the country's residents. The KGHM Foundation also aims to improve the efficiency of actions carried out by Volunteer Fire Brigade units with various formations.
OSP units applying for the competition can use the received donations for, among other things, the purchase of technical, water, medical, high-altitude, and search and rescue equipment, as well as protective gear for firefighters. The competition will be decided in September. The regulations and details will be available on www.fundacjakghm.pl.
20 Years of the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation
With the well-being and safety of the public in mind, the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation engages in numerous projects and activities related to rescue, civil protection, and public safety. The funds are largely allocated to the purchase of modern rescue and firefighting equipment and specialized vehicles for emergency response facilities, including fire brigades and police units. In 2022 alone, the Foundation provided fire brigades with 43 financial donations totaling nearly PLN 2 million.
Volunteer Fire Brigades and the State Fire Service received donations for, among other things, the purchase of rescue and firefighting vehicles, specialized equipment, and uniforms. For instance, in the Głogów municipality, co-financing was provided for the purchase of a medium 4x4 rescue and firefighting vehicle for the Serby Volunteer Fire Brigade, and OSP Rzeszotary (in Lower Silesia) was equipped with specialized rescue equipment: shears, a column spreader, an arm spreader, hydraulic pumps, and hoses. Over the past twenty years (2003-2023), the total amount of donations from the KGHM Foundation to OSP and PSP has exceeded PLN 8.5 million.
Top-Level Rescue
Employee safety is an absolute priority for the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., and the rescuers and firefighters of KGHM's Mining and Metallurgy Rescue Unit are among the best in the world. Their professionalism and skills have been recognized numerous times. In the recent International Rescue Team Competitions (2022), KGHM mining rescuers secured 3rd place in one of the disciplines, receiving a bronze medal.
