The construction of a new dispatch center and administrative building for KGHM's firefighters and rescue teams in Sobin has been completed. The new building for the Mining and Metallurgy Rescue Unit, a division of KGHM, is equipped with top-quality communication systems and modern IT solutions. The building was constructed using advanced technologies and is energy-efficient, utilizing solar energy thanks to photovoltaic panels installed on the roof.

The facility comprises a dispatch center with technical garages and an administrative section. The investment began in 2021 and cost over PLN 5.5 million. Rescuers now have improved working conditions, which translates to enhanced safety not only for KGHM employees but for the entire Copper Belt region. For instance, the unit responds to approximately 30 incidents within KGHM annually, while its responses to accidents, fires, and other crisis events in the Copper Belt amount to around 150.

The new dispatch center is unique not only in its equipment. For the first time in KGHM's history, it allows for rescue or evacuation operations to be managed directly from Sobin. In the event of any incidents within KGHM's divisions, JRGH dispatchers receive information and immediately take appropriate action.

KGHM's rescue teams and firefighters are among the best in the world. Their professionalism and skills have been recognized on numerous occasions. In the most recent International Mining Rescue Teams Competition (2022), KGHM's mining rescuers secured third place in one of the disciplines, earning a bronze medal.

The Mining and Metallurgy Rescue Unit (JRGH) division celebrated its 25th anniversary last year. JRGH's responsibilities include providing essential assistance to all divisions of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. in dealing with the aftermath of fires, rock bursts, collapses, water ingress, energy and mechanical failures, technical malfunctions, and chemical and ecological incidents, both on the surface and in underground workings.

KGHM rescuers have assisted and continue to assist beyond the company's mining and metallurgical operations. Their expertise is utilized, among other things, during road accidents and firefighting efforts, even beyond the country's borders. Their first deployment was to Albania following an earthquake in December 1988. Subsequent deployments occurred in August and November 1999, when rescuers twice assisted earthquake victims in western Turkey. This year, within the first few hours after the earthquake, KGHM rescuers also offered assistance to those affected in Turkey.
