Scania Polska, in partnership with Ekoenergetyka-Polska and Ekoen, has agreed upon a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing electromobility in Poland.
As part of the cooperation with Ekoenergetyka-Polska, comprehensive solutions in the form of fast-charging systems for electric heavy-duty vehicles will be provided.
In cooperation with Ekoen, the first publicly accessible fast-charging HUBS for heavy-duty vehicles will be launched at Scania service points, including those in Nadarzyn, Choroszcz near Białystok, and Gliwice. The goal of this cooperation is to reduce the carbon footprint in transport and to offer clients comprehensive solutions for electric heavy-duty vehicles and their charging systems.
Processes related to reducing CO2 emissions, air pollution, and noise are accelerating, partly due to increasing demands for sustainable development. Maintaining Poland's dominant position in EU road transport will be possible by ensuring the competitiveness of Polish transport companies in this area. The increasingly widespread adoption of electric drives in heavy-duty and delivery vehicles is linked to the development of fast-charging technologies and systems. Only through joint action by lawmakers, transport and infrastructure solution providers, and transport users can this strategy succeed.
– This is an important day for the development of heavy-duty transport electromobility in Poland. Electrification will only become a reality through the collaboration of partners specializing in energy and infrastructure provision. Only then can we introduce electric heavy-duty vehicles into circulation and contribute to the decarbonization and competitiveness of Polish transport. If we want to accelerate the shift towards sustainable transport, we cannot wait and see, we must act here and now – comments Wojciech Rowiński, CEO of Scania Polska S.A.
Fast Charging Systems for Electric Vehicles
Ekoenergetyka is a technology company that designs and manufactures modern and efficient electric vehicle fast-charging infrastructure at the highest global standard. The company meets the needs of many sectors in the e-mobility market, possesses its own research and development and production facilities, and supplies innovative solutions for electric vehicles, being one of Europe's key suppliers of high-power fast-charging systems, including for RATP Paris and the municipal carrier SWM Munich.
– Through our partnership with Scania Polska, we are setting the direction for the development of zero-emission heavy-duty transport. The integration of vehicle technology and fast-charging systems in the dynamically developing heavy-duty transport sector demonstrates that the demand for comprehensive solutions is enormous, and we are already meeting customer needs. Cutting-edge technologies, as well as many years of experience, contribute to even faster development of zero-emission heavy-duty transport – summarizes Bartosz Kubik, President of the Management Board and co-founder of Ekoenergetyka – Polska S.A.
– I am extremely pleased that the partnership with Scania Polska is becoming a reality. I am convinced that by collaborating with such an innovative and global concern in a field as crucial as the improvement and development of zero-emission transport technology, we will jointly provide clients with comprehensive solutions and support – adds Maciej Wojeński, co-founder and member of the Supervisory Board of Ekoenergetyka – Polska S.A.
Ekoenergetyka supports the plans of major cities and companies in transitioning to zero-emission transport. Over 2500 charging stations bearing the Ekoenergetyka logo are already operational in 26 countries, including Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Spain, France, Singapore, and Brazil.
Electric Vehicle Charging HUBS
Within the framework of the "EKOEN-100" Program, Ekoen declares readiness for close cooperation with electromobility development leaders concerning, among other things, site selection for the construction of ultra-fast charging HUBS. The objective of this cooperation is to create a network of Ekoen eTruck ultra-fast HUBS intended primarily for electric heavy-duty vehicles.
– I am convinced that the unique concept of the EKOEN eTruck HUB in our country, along with the strategic cooperation with Scania Polska, will accelerate the electrification of heavy-duty transport in Poland – just as it happened with the electric bus market, in whose development we participated – says Bartosz Kubik, President of the Management Board of Ekoen.
Ekoen eTruck HUBS will be established at locations including Scania Polska service points situated along transport corridors for heavy-duty vehicles on the Trans-European Transport Network – TEN-T. The long-term plan for the development of infrastructure dedicated to the electrification of heavy-duty transport is intended to cover the entire territory of Poland.
The Ekoen eTruck HUB is a unique concept of a multi-bay, ultra-fast, and publicly accessible charging station designed to serve electric heavy-duty vehicles. It was developed based on the exchange of experiences during joint workshops involving experts from both companies. The HUBS will also be available for electric passenger cars and delivery vehicles and will offer fast charging. Ultimately, vehicle charging will be carried out using chargers with power outputs of 750 kW and 1.5 MW.
Scania is Developing Electric Vehicles
Scania is strongly committed to promoting transport independent of fossil fuels, and the electric solutions offered by the company play a key role in this. The company offers battery electric vehicles (BEV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).
Electric vehicles are considered an effective and cost-efficient solution for fossil fuel-free transport. Battery capacity and fast-charging technology are rapidly evolving. Scania experts estimate that by 2025, electrified vehicles will account for approximately 10% of the company's total global sales, and by 2030, this percentage will rise to 50%.
Even today, the Polish market can benefit from the experiences in the bus industry, where this shift began earlier and the demand for electric vehicles is high. Poland is one of the leaders in the use of electric buses in Europe. Electric buses are most often charged at depots or during short stops at terminal points. Therefore, the development of electrification for long-haul transport requires dedicated solutions – high-power fast-charging stations for heavy-duty vehicles.
– Our goal is to deliver a transport solution that enables the use of a long-haul electric vehicle capable of forming a 40-ton gross combination weight unit with a range of 4.5 hours, which can be quickly recharged during the mandatory 45-minute break. This solution will include charging systems that allow for the full utilization of the potential and technological capabilities of our vehicles – adds Wojciech Rowiński.
Cooperation
The partnership was announced during a press conference at Impact'22, a key economic and technological event in the Central and Eastern European region. All currently available electric transport solutions from Scania were presented during the event.
