Impact:

Behind the Scenes of the Ranking of the Most Influential People in the Polish Economy

These four journalists discussed the Ranking of the Most Influential People for the Polish Economy, a project jointly created by three editorial teams: RMF FM, money.pl, and 300Gospodarka.pl.

The Ranking of the Most Influential People for the Polish Economy is a list of individuals who shaped Poland's economic reality in 2020. It was presented on the second day of this year's Impact'20 congress.

During Impact, a discussion took place where journalists and editors-in-chief lifted the veil on the behind-the-scenes process of creating the ranking. This was an innovative project, unprecedented in Polish media.

You can watch the discussion here.

The list featured over 200 names, who, according to the editorial teams, genuinely influence economic realities in Poland.

Who is on the ranking? It includes shapers of legislative changes and their creators, Polish and foreign politicians, as well as major employers, leaders of entities shaping specific industries, scientists, and researchers who influence the philosophical trends in shaping the economy or running companies.

Additionally, it includes lobbyists, investors, representatives of significant publicly traded companies, and individuals heading institutions that implement government policy. In short, everyone who has an impact on the Polish economy.

What methodology did we adopt? We concluded that no quantitative methods can fully capture the inherently humanistic nature of influence on the economy.

Citations or participation in conferences are often the result of large marketing budgets, which do not always correspond to actual influence on changes and processes; these often occur behind the scenes.

The selection of names on the list is the result of a joint analysis of processes occurring in the Polish economy and extensive discussions among representatives of the three organizations. The creation of the ranking involved tens of hours of debate over individual positions on the lists, as well as whether a given person should be included at all.

We wrote more about this in our FAQ.

What is Impact Planning for its May 12-13 Event? A Track on Women's Discrimination Will Be Held for the First Time
This year, Impact will kick off the spring conference season in a hybrid format: the first event will take place on May 12 and 13. The current epidemiological situation is not a cause for optimism, yet the crisis necessitates dialogue and the development of methods to overcome it. Impact is facing this challenge and striving to fulfill its mission despite the difficult situation for the entire society. This year, Impact is inaugurating the season with a conference in a hybrid format: the audience will be gathered on the main pages of Wirtualna Polska and money.pl, as well as on the Impact platform. Impact Foundation events are known for their innovative approach to discussions: the traditional format of long panel debates has been replaced by short, dynamic presentations. The issues discussed during the congresses are future-oriented and analyze ongoing changes; a hallmark of Impact is also an above-average number of international guests. At the first Impact conference of the year, in addition to representatives of the Polish government, key government offices, and companies in our country, the following have already confirmed their presence:
  • Nathalie Brzezinski, Head of Strategy Klarna
  • Nancy VanDycke, World Bank
  • Peter Carlsson, Northvolt
  • Adrius Mikalauskas, Barbora
The hybrid spring edition features 13 thematic tracks:
  • Digital Future
  • Finance
  • E-commerce
  • Blockchain & Digital Assets
  • Energy
  • Mobility
  • Green Economy
  • Urban Next
  • Health
  • Sport
  • Art
  • Women Empowerment
  • Event Marketing Future Forecast
Energy transformation, the National Reconstruction Plan, the development of local e-commerce, and the prospects of the banking sector and the expansion of digital banking will take center stage. There will also be topics related to the transformation of the healthcare system, the development of the cryptocurrency market, and cybersecurity. For the spring edition, the Impact team has planned a track that is a novelty on the Polish market: Women Empowerment, addressing the issue of discrimination against women in professional, financial, and business environments. This dedicated track aims to be the first step in responding to the long-discussed problem within the media and conference industry regarding the absence of women in debates and media. The track has gained popularity from the outset, which has strengthened our conviction that it addresses a real need for discussion on counteracting the marginalization of women. Specifically for this track, we have introduced the role of ambassadors, whose task is to demonstrate that the issue of women's discrimination is not just a problem for those discriminated against, but concerns the entire society and the entire economic life. Our ambassadors already include Marek Tejchman, deputy editor-in-chief of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Daniel Rząsa, editor-in-chief of the 300Gospodarka discussion platform, and Piotr Arak, managing director of the Polish Economic Institute.
