Lichocka on Media Deconcentration: It's Clear Across the United Right Camp That Something Must Be Done. The Question is How to Proceed

We are constantly contemplating the path to take, because it is not currently a subject of discussion whether to carry out some reform in the media market that would build ownership deconcentration in the media market, because it is clear across the entire United Right camp that something must be done in this matter. The question is how to proceed” - said Joanna Lichocka of Law and Justice on Radio Jedynka.

08:29

Gawkowski:

What Hołownia and his movement are doing today is a petty, cynical political trick.

- What Szymon Hołownia and his movement are doing today is a petty, cynical political trick. That's what I would call it. You can't, on the one hand, have clean hands and say that we will be a new element in Polish politics, that we will look at politics differently from these old, former parties, and then the first move you make after the presidential elections is to poach MPs from someone else - Krzysztof Gawkowski said in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on Jedynka radio.

08:30

Lichocka on Media Deconcentration: The Decision to Proceed Should Be Publicized in the Coming Weeks, Along with Other Reforms Discussed by United Right Leaders

The decision that we are proceeding with this should be publicized in the coming weeks, along with a package of other reforms being discussed by the leaders of the United Right, while it seems to me that regarding media deconcentration itself, we should adopt solutions as faithfully as possible to those in effect in Western Europe” - Joanna Lichocka of Law and Justice said on Radio Jedynka.

08:35

Lichocka on Media Decentration: I Don't Feel Pressure from the US Embassy. I Treat the Ambassador's Remarks as One Voice in This Debate. These Remarks Will Not Affect the Legislative Process.

I do not feel this pressure [from the US Embassy], but everyone has the right to speak in the ongoing broad debate on this topic. I treat the Ambassador’s remarks as one voice in this debate” – said Joanna Lichocka from Law and Justice on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

The Polish parliament will decide on the shape of Polish law. These remarks will not have an impact on the legislative process” – she added.

08:38

Gawkowski:

Lewica is definitely a political animal. Hołownia is not a crocodile, but a currently a little ant that I believe not only Lewica, but other parties will calmly but slowly crush.

- If you are so good, you have such a background, you think you are so strong, then you prepare for elections for three years, you run in elections, you form a political group and in that political group you try to have parliamentary representation in both the Sejm and the Senate. And if you have three years until the elections and you have to try to steal MPs from someone or build a base by saying that there is a necessity for representation, which is also a political quarry, then Lewica is definitely a political animal, but in all this, Hołownia is definitely not a crocodile, but currently a little ant that I think not only Lewica, but other parties will calmly but slowly crush - said Krzysztof Gawkowski on Jedynka radio.

Lichocka on GPC and PZPN Case: A Curious Ruling That Strikes a Blow Against Freedom of Speech, Democracy, and Fundamental Principles of Free Media
"This is a curious ruling that strikes a blow against freedom of speech, democracy, and the fundamental principles of free media. This ruling would imply that, in general, nothing unfavorable can be written about Mr. Zbigniew Boniek, even if it is true," said Joanna Lichocka from the Law and Justice party on Radio Jedynka.

08:44

Gawkowski:

If Warsaw has its second breakdown in a year, similar to last year's and managed in the same problematic way, why should we say it's not bad?

- If we believe something bad is happening, whether it's in local government, as in the case of Warsaw, or the state, or regional assemblies, then our MPs, both male and female, who are very active, have the right to criticize. If Warsaw experiences its second breakdown in a year, largely resembling the one from a year ago and managed in a similarly problematic way, why should we say it's not bad? - said Krzysztof Gawkowski on Radio Jedynka.

08:51

Schetyna:

We Won Local Elections in Many, Many Cities. We Won the Senate Elections. Please Compare Poland's Situation to Hungary's. This is the Beginning of a Stage, a Path. Much Work Lies Ahead.

- We won the local elections in many, many cities. In all of them, actually. We won the Senate elections, and there is an opposition Senate presidium, which shows what the legislative process and a democratic one-chamber parliament can look like. Please compare Poland's situation to Hungary's. Very often today in Europe they are compared, so please see how much the opposition managed to do to prevent power from being handed over to one party, one person, but I agree, this is all the beginning of a stage, the beginning of a path. Much work lies ahead - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in a conversation with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

Hołownia on New Solidarity: 'The Emotion Has Passed'

I wish Rafał Trzaskowski well. I wish him to primarily focus on what is most important for him to do and what is his main responsibility, which is to avert the sewage crisis in Warsaw. This is something very important for people, and I believe he will do it and do it well. Regarding the creation of this movement, I have the impression that this moment has already passed, that it has taken too long. First, there was a stage of absence and conceptual work, then there was a stage of further commenting in the media on what could come of it, then there was Czajka. It ended up with the emotion having truly passed now” - said Szymon Hołownia, leader of the Poland 2050 movement, in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on “Sedno Sprawy” on Radio Plus.

09:00

Hołownia:

Trzaskowski Must Decide – Vice-Chairman of Civic Platform, Mayor of Warsaw, or Leader of a New Movement?

"[Rafał Trzaskowski] is a man who has the potential for significant success in politics, including in gathering people. However, in my opinion, he should decide – whether he wants to be the vice-chairman of Civic Platform, the mayor of the capital city of Warsaw, or the leader of the new movement New Solidarity. Because I only see potential for success in one of these roles" – said Szymon Hołownia, leader of the Poland 2050 movement, on Radio Plus.

09:10

Schetyna:

First Step is Internal Integration within Civic Platform. End of Discussion. Elections for Club Authorities and Moving to the Next Stage of Building an Opposition Camp to Win in 2023

- We need to seriously consider this [rebranding of Civic Platform] and only at the end, as the final stage of discussing what the opposition, and the Platform, needs today. I believe we need to primarily establish relationships within the Civic Platform, the Civic Coalition. Build them on the principle of subjectivity, of full involvement and participation. This is very important. This is a very concrete example of how politics should be built in the long term. And this is not a matter of keys or the questioning editor's spells, because it's not jargon, but a true diagnosis of the situation, because the Polish opposition needs it today. There must be good relations between opposition groupings, but also within the Civic Coalition, which is a formula not only purely of the Platform, but also expanded to include people from other parties, and independents. We must learn cooperation on the opposition side in order to be ready, ready to build one… A federation of groupings that today form the Civic Coalition – yes, close relations, building agreement, as if guaranteeing good cooperation – yes, but that is not enough to win elections. Today, we must build relations with those with whom we will cooperate and build joint electoral lists on the basis of parliamentary cooperation, and in the future also extra-parliamentary cooperation. That's what I'm talking about. I understand President Jaśkowiak's idea as the first step, or perhaps the second, because the first is integration within the Platform, the end of discussion, elections for the parliamentary club authorities, moving to the next stage of building a strong opposition grouping that will be ready to win the 2023 elections, both local and parliamentary – stated Grzegorz Schetyna on Radio Zet.

- Rebranding, discussing these changes – I don't rule it out, but I believe it's a summation of the stage of building a new Civic Coalition, a new Platform, new relations with opposition groupings, including those like Szymon Hołownia's, who is outside parliament, or majorities outside parliament. Rebranding, building a new image is the next step. As for the Civic Platform, we have had elections for the party leader, and we are before elections for the club authorities. The point is that the club authorities, elected by MPs, senators, and MEPs of the Civic Coalition, should be a good, subjective representation of all environments, groups, and political ideas – he continued.

09:12

Sachajko:

We Should Enter a Coalition with PiS to Change Reality. It's the Only Rational Action

- Politics is rational action for the common good. To change the reality surrounding us, one needs influence over those in power, so we should definitely have a clear influence. Currently, Law and Justice is adopting many of our ideas. We would like them to vote with us more often for solutions for Poles - said Jarosław Sachajko in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM's "Morning Conversation".

- We should enter a coalition with Law and Justice to change reality. It is the only rational action. I did not enter politics to live well off your money, but to change reality for my children too - he added.

09:23

Sachajko:

There was a proposal to join the ruling coalition, which I rejected
- Is it true that Mateusz Morawiecki made you an offer to join his government? - asked Robert Mazurek. - No, such a proposal was not directly made, and Paweł [Kukiz] also did not write about it - said Jarosław Sachajko on RMF FM. - Forgive me. He wrote exactly that there was a meeting in May, arranged by some well-known poultry farmer, not named, and there was a proposal to join the government, which you rejected. - There was a proposal to join the ruling coalition, which I rejected - stated Sachajko.

09:35

Schetyna:

Tusk Has More Scope for Criticism, Assessment. It's Not Out of Ill Will. He Wants to Be Present in Polish Politics as Someone Heard and Whose Words Lead to Conclusions. I Wish Us All the Ability to Benefit from This.

- Donald Tusk is the founder of Civic Platform (PO) and indeed has more scope and can comment, especially on issues such as finances, or pay rises for MPs. I also, by the way, spoke out on this matter, because for us, the people who founded PO, this issue is very important - stated Grzegorz Schetyna on Radio Zet.

- Tusk has more scope in terms of criticism and assessment. This is not out of ill will or some distance from PO. He is the head of the EPP, he is the founder of PO. He wants to be present in Polish politics, at least as someone who is listened to and whose statements are taken into account. I believe this is also a challenge for PO. I wish everyone the experience that Donald Tusk has, and I wish all of us the ability to benefit from it. It is truly worthwhile - he continued.

Czarnecki on Government Reconstruction: A Cut of at Least 1/3, Likely Around 14-16 Ministries. On Coalition Compensation: For Instance, Representation in Secretary of State Positions.

I think this is a matter of reducing the government by at least one-third. There are 23 ministries, so probably around 15, 16, or 14. Probably so [coalition partners will each have one ministry]. Currently, they have two each – stated Ryszard Czarnecki in an interview with Łukasz A. Jankowski on Radio Wnet.

When asked about compensation for coalition partners, the PiS MEP replied: – Certainly also, for example, in the representation of coalition parties in Secretary of State positions.

10:23

Hołownia:

I Don't Hide That a Parliamentary Club Would Be Useful. We're Having All Kinds of Conversations

Of course, we are having all kinds of conversations. A club – I don't hide it – would be useful to us, because we already have the head, meaning the think tank Strategie 2050, we have the heart, meaning the Polska 2050 association, and through these few months in politics, we've learned that if you don't have representatives in parliament, in regional assemblies, it's very difficult to push good ideas through” – said Szymon Hołownia, leader of the Polska 2050 movement, on Radio Plus.

Terlecki on Solidarity Poland: Know Your Place in Line

- No, no, what PSL? We are talking with our coalition partners, the two small ones, and trying to reach some agreement, a consensus. No [PSL is not being considered]. I am moderately [happy that Jarosław Gowin is returning to the government]. Because we had an unpleasant episode in the spring. I hope it won't happen again - stated Ryszard Terlecki in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.

When asked how he assessed what Zbigniew Ziobro and the Solidarity Poland party would do now, trying to break out into the role of some leader of the United Right, he replied: - One must know one's place in line. It seems to me that such a possibility does not exist. At least for the next few years. In general, I would [advise our coalition partners to temper their moods], to seriously approach the prospect of 3 years of joint government of the United Right.

13:18

Gowin:

The Agreement's Demand in Coalition Negotiations is the Introduction of the Local Government Investment Fund as a Permanent, Annual Component of Local Government Subsidies

The Agreement's demand during coalition negotiations is the introduction of the Local Government Investment Fund as a permanent, annual component of local government subsidies. Thanks to FIS, local communities will be able to realize a whole range of their aspirations and plans, and at the same time, these investments will be carried out by local, Polish companies. In this way, we are creating a lever for faster development of the Polish economy and lifting ourselves out of the global economic crisis” - said Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin.

Civic Coalition Submits Motion to Dismiss Children's Ombudsman
A person can hold their views. However, an institution cannot have its own views, it cannot be a religious fundamentalist. The Office of the Children's Ombudsman requires a certain impartiality, a rising above one's own individual views. Unfortunately, the Ombudsman is incapable of this. Once again, in practically every statement he makes, he shows that he is a fundamentalist, that he is not fit to be an ombudsman, and that he has mistaken this function for that of a preacher. The Civic Coalition is submitting a motion to dismiss the Children's Ombudsman today – stated Katarzyna Lubnauer at a press briefing in the Sejm. The Children's Ombudsman should be dealing with the real problems of children. He should address how inequalities are increasing during remote education, that some children do not have access to equipment and unfortunately their parents are unable to help. He should address the issue of the growing number of suicide threats among children, the collapse of the child psychiatry system, and the issue of new psychoactive substances – she continued. He should address the issue of children being persecuted, among other reasons, due to their sexual orientation. We know the ombudsman's views on this matter. He should address whether children are not staying in orphanages, whether there is any way to help them stay in foster families rather than care facilities. These matters do not interest him, and he offends dignity with practically every statement he makes. With every statement he makes, he infringes upon the rights and safety of children – emphasized the Civic Platform MP.

Polish PM after V4 Premiers' Meeting: For Belarus, We Want to Offer an Economic Package. Restructuring Energy Security, IT Sector and Infrastructure Cooperation. Visa-Free Travel
We also condemn in the strongest possible terms all repressions, including torture and brutal treatment of demonstrators and protesters, and in particular, we appeal for the immediate release of all political prisoners. For the nation, for Belarusian society, we want to propose an economic offer, an offer of future economic cooperation, and we also discussed this offer. These are joint projects related to small and medium-sized enterprises, but also energy policy. A way of restructuring energy security so that Belarusian society can continue to leverage its competitive advantages in sectors where they are very good and developed. This also includes cooperation in the IT sector and cooperation in the field of infrastructure. Poland borders Belarus, we have 418 km of common border and we know how important it is for trade exchange that this infrastructure is as well-developed as possible between our countries. We also want to propose visa-free travel for Belarusian citizens - said Mateusz Morawiecki during a press conference after the meeting of the Visegrad Group prime ministers.

This economic package for Belarus for the future, for a Belarus that must choose its own priorities in free elections, this package we will want to present during the upcoming European Council meeting - he added.

We Addressed COVID-19. How to Best Organize the Response to the Epidemic Without Leading to Another Lockdown

- We also addressed the issue of COVID-19 and, in this regard, how to best organize the response, the European response, the Visegrad response to the epidemic, so as not to lead to another lockdown. This is our shared intention, and we want to emphasize it very strongly. We do not want to shut down the economy, but at the same time, we approach the epidemic with humility - said Mateusz Morawiecki during a press conference after the meeting of the Visegrad Group prime ministers.

15:56

PMM:

I Will Speak with the Greek Prime Minister on How to Assist in Rebuilding the Refugee Camp. Poland Has Already Prepared 150 Modular Homes
We also discussed issues of assistance for our Greek friends in connection with the tragedy that affected one of the refugee camps, and we agreed that I will speak with the Greek Prime Minister on how to assist in rebuilding this refugee camp. Moreover, Poland has already prepared 150 modular homes to send to Greece to help build the infrastructure that is needed there - said Mateusz Morawiecki during a press conference following the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Visegrád Group.

17:33

Ociepa:

Running Hospitals Should Not Be a Core Responsibility of Local Governments

I believe that healthcare, running hospitals, should not be a core responsibility of local governments. Yes [this is the subject of coalition talks]. We discussed this, including in the format of a working, programmatic team with Minister Schreiber and Woś. Many local governments are reacting enthusiastically to this postulate” – said Deputy Minister Marcin Ociepa from Porozumienie in an interview with Łukasz Jankowski on Radio Wnet.

17:37

Ociepa:

Reconstruction Cannot End by Only Reducing Ministries Responsible for Porozumienie and Solidarna Polska

It [the reconstruction] cannot end in a way that only ministries responsible for Porozumienie and Solidarna Polska are reduced, because that would mean that this reconstruction is solely about limiting the influence of coalition partners. Naturally, Porozumienie will not agree to this. Today, PiS is presenting options of 12, 13, or 14 ministries. This is a significant reduction option. We are discussing it. We agree, if it is to look like this in the end, we are ready to accept such a formula, only everything depends on which ministries they will be” – said Deputy Minister Marcin Ociepa from Porozumienie in an interview with Łukasz Jankowski on Radio Wnet.

Law and Justice Submits Draft Amendment to Animal Protection Law to Parliament

The animal protection bill, previously announced by Law and Justice and the party's youth wing, has been submitted to the Marshal's office. It includes provisions such as a ban on fur farming, restrictions on ritual slaughter, and the presence of officers during interventions by non-governmental organizations.

Additionally, PiS has submitted a draft law to Parliament concerning "the introduction of legal certainty in the event that the Court of Justice of the European Union declares European Commission decisions on state aid invalid."

19:48

Gawkowski:

I've had many conversations with Kosiniak-Kamysz, where he declared and wisely justified that building a united front with PiS equals vassalization and eventual parliamentary ouster

- I've had many conversations with Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, where he declared and also wisely justified that building a united front with Law and Justice equals vassalization and, ultimately, falling out of parliament, so I don't believe he will go down that path - Krzysztof Gawkowski said in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

19:54

Gawkowski:

I Think a Large Part of Kukiz'15 Parliamentarians Are Considering a Coalition. I Don't Believe It Will Be a Coalition of the Entire Club. A Split Could Occur
- This is also visible in the parliamentary chamber. I think a large part of Kukiz’15 parliamentarians are considering a coalition - said Krzysztof Gawkowski on Polsat News. - I don't believe it will be a coalition of the entire club. A split could occur, which I do not wish upon the MPs from Koalicja Polska, but it could happen, I think more on the right-wing, conservative option, where Paweł Kukiz and his people are - he added.

19:58

Gawkowski:

I've heard rumors that PiS is considering splitting the roles of Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice. I think the party leader is blackmailing Ziobro with this today.

- He wanted to hold two batons in two hands. It turns out he will hold one baton, or maybe none. I think in PiS there will be no division into the better and the worse, and Ziobro will be in the government. He will probably continue to be the Minister of Justice. I've heard rumors, and this is news for you, that PiS is considering the possibility of splitting the functions of Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice, and I think the party leader is blackmailing Zbigniew Ziobro with this today – said Krzysztof Gawkowski on Polsat News.

20:04

Gawkowski:

We Stand With the Government on Relations with Belarus. Poland's State Interest is to Ensure a Unified Message
- It's good that the Left's demand has been met, and I thank the Prime Minister for deciding to continue the meetings. It was the Left that proposed at the last meeting that there should be a schedule of meetings concerning Belarus. We managed to build this, and today we know that there is a meeting planned for Monday. Representatives of the Left will be there. At this meeting, we will ask about the second thing we announced, which is a report on the work carried out last week - said Krzysztof Gawkowski in Polsat News. - We stand with the government regarding relations with Belarus. This means that Poland's state interest is to ensure that the message does not diverge. Whether it's the Left or the Right, PSL or Civic Platform - he added.

20:09

Gawkowski on Gill-Piątek's Departure: It's Sad When MPs Leave Clubs Without Saying Goodbye, as the Lady MP Didn't Even Send an SMS. On the Other Hand, It's Better They Leave Now Than in the Last Year.
My heart aches, but my mind rejoices. My heart aches because it is certainly sad when MPs leave parliamentary clubs without even saying goodbye, as the Lady MP didn't even send an SMS. On the other hand, thinking about how a political movement should look, it's better that MPs leave now than they would leave in the last year – said Krzysztof Gawkowski on Polsat News.

20:11

Jaki:

Power is not an end in itself. If our program is still about strong reform of state institutions, a culture war, perhaps media deconcentration, it's hard to imagine the PSL joining such a coalition.

Political life teaches us that no scenario can be ruled out in the future. If you ask for my knowledge and opinion, then assuming that power is not an end in itself, but that one has power to implement a program for Poland, then assuming that our program is still about strong reform of state institutions, including the justice system, a culture war, perhaps engaging in a culture war, perhaps media deconcentration, then it is hard to imagine that if the PSL were to join such a coalition, and on all these matters I believe they are on the completely opposite pole, that we could implement this program. This would mean that the United Right would have to completely change its program” - said PiS MEP Patryk Jaki from Solidarna Polska in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on "Fakty po Faktach" on TVN24.

20:15

Jaki:

We Have One Fundamental Demand for Our PiS Friends: No White Flag in the 'Culture War'

We have one fundamental demand for our friends from PiS. We do not want a white flag when it comes to the so-called culture war. We want the Polish cultural code to be preserved, so that we do not allow slogans that were recently carried by the rather popular figure on the other side, the bandit Michał Sz. of the entire left, meaning the destruction of the rule of law, family, and the church, so that these very expansive and effectively operating slogans in Western Europe do not become an effective part of our public life. This is the most important demand of Solidarna Polska” – said PiS MEP Patryk Jaki from Solidarna Polska on TVN24.
