Wednesday's Political Agenda: Cichanouskaya's Visit, Bodnar's Term Ends

At 9:00 AM, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will meet with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who is visiting Poland. Subsequently, at 9:55 AM, there will be a meeting with the Belarusian minority living in Poland, and at 10:45 AM – a meeting with students at the University of Warsaw.

Today marks the end of the five-year term of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Adam Bodnar. However, Parliament has not elected a new Commissioner, and according to the law, the current Commissioner will continue to perform their duties until a new one takes office.

Also today, Senate committees will convene – ahead of the Senate session beginning tomorrow. At 3:00 PM, the so-called reprivatization bill will be considered, and at 4:00 PM – an amendment to the COVID-19 act, which in practice serves as an anti-crisis shield for tourism.

At 8:30 PM, Marshal of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki will meet with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Razumkov.

PM Morawiecki: Opposition Invited Next Week to Discuss Belarus

- I would like to announce an invitation for the opposition for next week, in order to discuss Belarus again in the current state of events, and I am glad that this conversation with the opposition was constructive, that the representatives of the opposition largely agreed with our actions, supported these actions. I believe it is bringing results, both in the European Parliament and on the international forum. Here, the actions of the opposition representatives, such as Robert Biedroń in the European Parliament, are very clear, pointing to the lack of legitimacy of the authorities in Belarus and inspiring other parliamentary groups. Of course, our parliamentary group EKR, led by Prof. Legutko and Minister Fotyga, strongly emphasizes that we must advocate for a free Belarus, a democratic Belarus, but one can never do too much. We want to actively participate in this great history that is unfolding before our eyes - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day) on PR1.

PM on Nord Stream 2: Trzaskowski called it a business project, yet we know perfectly well that nothing would have happened without the support of the German and Russian states.
The United States is now articulating its demands regarding Nord Stream 2 very clearly. And one might ask why they are articulating these demands so clearly? One might ask what Civic Platform did previously, when they were still in power, in this regard. Well, not only did they do nothing, but they tried to present this project as insignificant, a mere business project - said Mateusz Morawiecki in a conversation with Antoni Trzmiel on Jedynka radio. - Mr. Trzaskowski said that this is a business project, and we know perfectly well that without the support of the German state, the Russian state, nothing would have happened here. Therefore, our consistent stance has led to the fact that today this project has been put on hold for the first time and serious question marks now hang over it - added the Prime Minister.

08:45

PMM:

The Belarusian Nation and the Emerging Government of Souls Stand Against the Naked Force of Lukashenka and Putin. It's Like Underground Lava That Will Surely Prevail Sooner or Later
- The Belarusian nation and this government of souls, which has begun to reign there and which we support, I think is a force of immense power today. It is like underground lava that will surely prevail sooner or later - said Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with Jedynka radio.

Bielan:

There was no reason for Emilewicz to leave Porozumienie. There is a place for the Prime Minister in Polish politics, regardless of the function she will hold in the government.
"There was no reason for Prime Minister Emilewicz to leave Porozumienie. She currently holds an important government position. [As for the future], I of course do not know it. It depends on what the government will look like, whether there will be fewer ministries and the coalition partners will receive less, or more. I am convinced that there is a place for the Prime Minister in Polish politics, regardless of the function she will hold in the government" - said PiS MEP Adam Bielan from Porozumienie on "Kwadrans polityczny" on TVP1.

09:14

Bielan on Animal Rights Protection Bill: Not Influenced by a Report. Let's Wait for the Final Form. Only Assumptions Were Presented Yesterday
“This is not a project that would have been created under the influence of a report published yesterday on one of the internet portals. All suggestions that some conspiracy has occurred are an untrue conspiracy theory. This is a problem that Poles have been living with for years, which has not been regulated. This law, let's wait for its final form, because only the assumptions were presented yesterday, may finally regulate this problem” - said PiS MEP Adam Bielan from Porozumienie on TVP1.

09:23

Bielan on the Division of Mazovia: 'It's Not Ruled Out. It's a Variant I've Personally Supported for Many Years'

"It's not ruled out. It's a variant I've personally supported for many years. It's the only possible solution to accelerate the development of cities like Radom, Siedlce, Ostrołęka, Ciechanów, and also Płock, which is very wealthy thanks to the presence of Orlen. Warsaw is siphoning off resources needed for development, European funds. These Mazovian cities suffer from the division of funds for healthcare" – said PiS MEP Adam Bielan of Porozumienie on TVP1.

09:27

Bielan on Electoral Code Changes: "We Have a Curious Situation Where Local Officials, Who Themselves Run in One Type of Election, Are Responsible for Elections"

We have a curious situation today where local officials, who themselves run for office in one type of election, namely local government elections, are responsible for elections. At the same time, we have a voter register, as we painfully discovered during the skirmishes over the May elections, which is maintained by each municipality in its own way. There is no single, unified database. This in itself is an area prone to certain abuses. This is a 20th-century solution, and from the middle of the century” – said PiS MEP Adam Bielan from Porozumienie on TVP1.

10:29

PM:

We will soon present an economic plan for the Belarusian nation

- We will also soon present an economic plan for the Belarusian nation, for the Belarusian state, which aims to show that Europe is open to Belarus. Europe is open to the Belarusian nation - said Mateusz Morawiecki during a meeting with the Belarusian minority.

Ociepa on Animal Rights Bill: 'I Understand There Won't Be a Ban on Fur Farming, Just Regulation and Civilization of These Farms'

We don't see concrete provisions. I understand that there won't be a ban on fur farming, just a matter of regulating, civilizing these farms. There are thousands of years of human reflection on the human-animal relationship. Of course, it is true that we humans eat animals and use animals in other aspects. We can do this in a civilized way, one that doesn't cause pain or suffering. It is extremely important to reconcile these things” – said Deputy Minister Marcin Ociepa from Porozumienie in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on "Sedno Sprawy" on Radio Plus.

There cannot be a provision that liquidates a branch of the economy or a business activity a priori. Let's wait for the provisions, let's wait for the provisions that, in our opinion, should aim to civilize farming” – he added.

Poland is an Open House for all Belarusians Needing Help. Prime Minister Hands Over Keys to the Belarusian House to Tsikhanouskaya

- Poland is an open house for all Belarusians who need help. As part of our "Solidarity with Belarus" program, we are helping repressed individuals, and we strive to support Belarusian communities that carry this song of freedom to Belarus - said Mateusz Morawiecki during a meeting with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the Belarusian minority.

- Let this symbolic transfer of the keys to the Belarusian House, here to this headquarters, be a testament to our solidarity, a handover to free Belarusians in Warsaw who will certainly ensure that the Belarusians' fight for freedom, sovereignty, and democracy ends in full success. Ms. Sviatlana, please accept this gift from the Polish nation to the Belarusian nation, which is this seat here in Warsaw, and which will undoubtedly contribute to the fight for a free Belarus - the Prime Minister added.

10:44

Tsikhanouskaya:

Aid from All Countries, but Especially Poland, Can Help Belarusians in Their Fight for Rights
Aid from all countries, but especially Poland, can help Belarusians in their fight for rights. I am convinced that after new elections, we will maintain good relations with the Polish government, and they will support us both morally and financially, because we know that our situation is approaching an economic precipice. Our friendly relations will continue and flourish [simultaneous translation during a press conference] – said Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya during a meeting with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the Belarusian minority.

Ociepa on Thursday's United Right Leaders' Meeting: At a Level Covering All Areas: Program, Structure, and Personnel

Tomorrow we have a meeting in the format of party leaders. The party leaders will be present. From the Agreement’s side, it will be me. From Solidary Poland’s side, MP Patryk Jaki. We will talk. This will be the third meeting, but already at a level that encompasses all these areas, meaning program, structure, and personnel” - said Deputy Minister Marcin Ociepa from Porozumienie on Radio Plus.

10:46

Ociepa:

Our discussions about government reconstruction are taking too long. Reconstruction is done, not talked about.

Porozumienie is ready to close negotiation areas, because in our opinion our discussions about government reconstruction are taking too long. Reconstruction is done, not talked about. We are ready to constructively move towards its implementation as quickly as possible” - said Deputy Minister Marcin Ociepa from Porozumienie on Radio Plus.

15:53

Morawiecki:

Solidarity is not just a historical movement that led to a breakthrough. Solidarity is happening here and now! Today's meeting and our support for the Belarusian nation show that solidarity can transcend state borders

18:23

Fogiel:

In 2005-2007, we pursued an expert approach with open competitions for supervisory boards. Market experts and academics were appointed. Their economic thinking clashed with PiS's program.

- We faced a similar problem when we were in power between 2005 and 2007.  At that time, we pursued a very expert approach, specifically open competitions for supervisory boards. Market experts were appointed, individuals with academic titles, from SGH [Warsaw School of Economics], and other universities. The problem turned out to be that their way of thinking about the economy, about management, was completely at odds with what Law and Justice has in its program - said Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM's "Popołudniowa rozmowa" (Afternoon Interview).

- The point is that when it comes to management, and especially oversight of State Treasury companies, it is difficult to expect that the government and the political circles that form it, which have a certain way of thinking about the economy, about development – one can argue whether it's right, but the last few years have shown it's probably not the worst – would want this area to also be managed in a way consistent with what we think, for example, about the development of the state - he continued.

- If we want a certain way of operating of State Treasury companies, which are specific companies, they are not free market electrons, to be preserved, then we also have to rely on individuals who provide a guarantee of implementing the program that we ran on during the elections - he added.

Hołownia on Gill-Piątek's Transfer: She Made the Decision After Very Long Deliberation, Many Conversations We Had. There Was No Poaching

The frustration of Messrs. Gdula, Gawkowski, and Trela should be directed at themselves. If an MP of the Republic of Poland makes the decision they make, aware of its consequences and effects, and decides that they want to pursue goals important to them not within the Left club, from which these three silver-tongued gentlemen originate, but elsewhere, then one must draw conclusions for oneself. Hanna Gill-Piątek made the decision after very long deliberation, many conversations we had. There was no poaching, no shady dealings” - said Szymon Hołownia, leader of the Poland 2050 movement, in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM's “Political Interview”.

19:44

Dworczyk:

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is an ordinary woman in an extraordinary situation, bearing great responsibility. She has become a symbol of Belarus fighting for sovereignty, freedom, and democracy.

- [Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is] direct, very open in her interactions. You could say an ordinary woman who found herself in an extraordinary situation and bears great responsibility today, because she has become a symbol, a symbol of Belarus fighting for sovereignty, freedom, and democracy - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on "Gość Wydarzeń" (Guest of Events) on Polsat News.

19:59

Dworczyk:

Nearly 80% of Poles Oppose Fur Farming. Many European Countries Have Long Introduced Such Regulations
According to my knowledge, this bill [on the ban of fur animal farming] was proposed by the Forum Młodych PiS. The party leader was at this conference and warmly supports this project. The party leader warmly and sincerely supports this project because I believe everyone, or most people, know how diligently President Kaczyński cares for animals and their safety - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Polsat News' "Gość Wydarzeń". - I am not surprised by the voice of a representative of the fur industry, because if these regulations come into force, the industry will feel it. On the other hand, it must be clearly stated that nearly 80% of Poles are against raising animals for fur, solely for the purpose of obtaining fur. Many European countries have long introduced these regulations. These animals are very often raised in very difficult conditions, conditions that, when you look at them, surely touch everyone's heart - the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister continued.

Polish PM: Opposition Leaders Do Not Recognize Lukashenka, Elections Should Be Repeated
- At these meetings [today], members of the Coordination Council, Ms. Kowalkowa and Mr. Pawel Latushka, who knows Poland well, having served as its ambassador here, participated. All three leaders of the Belarusian opposition very clearly emphasized that they do not recognize Lukashenka even now, and that on November 5, when his presidential term formally ends, no country in the world should recognize Lukashenka, and elections should be repeated. We agree with this - said Mateusz Morawiecki during an online Q&A.

20:04

PM Morawiecki Thanks Opposition MPs and MEPs for Championing the Belarusian Cause in the European Parliament

- I want to thank the opposition MPs. So far, we have essentially spoken with one voice. This is important because our voice is then heard better in the West. I also want to thank the MEPs, Minister Anna Fotyga, Chairman Ryszard Legutko, and Chairman Robert Biedroń for their commitment and for keeping the Belarusian cause alive in the European Parliament - said Mateusz Morawiecki during an online Q&A.

20:05

Dworczyk:

This is not a complete ban on ritual slaughter, as it will still be possible for religious groups operating in Poland.

- It must also be clearly stated that this is not a complete ban on ritual slaughter, because for religious groups that operate in Poland, this slaughter will still be possible - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Polsat News's "Gość Wydarzeń".

20:07

Dworczyk on Fur Farm Ban: "Solidarna Polska Politicians Have Introduced Regulations Increasing Penalties for Animal Cruelty in Recent Years. There Would Be Some Inconsistency If Such Doubts Arose."

It would be strange in that Solidarna Polska politicians, and praise them for it, have introduced regulations increasing penalties for tormenting and mistreating animals in recent years. Therefore, there would be some inconsistency if such doubts actually arose, but I am not aware of the statement that the editor is quoting – stated Michał Dworczyk in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on Polsat News' "Gość Wydarzeń".

20:07

Morawiecki:

I am very glad that Chairman Kaczyński strongly emphasizes that the way animals are treated also says something about us, about people.

- I am very glad that Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński strongly emphasizes that the way animals are treated also says something about us, about people. I fully agree with this, and I think that fortunately, the vast majority of Poles agree with this too - said Mateusz Morawiecki in an online Q&A.

20:12

PM on Mask Wearing: 'Of course, it's not a perfect method that protects us 100%, but virologists say it helps, so let's try to use what helps.'

- It is indeed burdensome, and just today, while trying to be in many places with Ms. Cichanouskaya, she asked me about the rules, about wearing a mask, then we took them off, and I realize that it is a hassle, but where we can, especially where there is no distance, let's try to wear them. Of course, it's not a perfect method that protects us 100%, but virologists say it helps, so let's try to use what helps - said Mateusz Morawiecki in an online Q&A.

20:12

Dworczyk:

I am convinced that the United Right, after reconstruction, even strengthened and consolidated, will function very well, and the government, thanks to the introduced changes, will operate even more effectively

- As it is in politics and in any coalition, there are tough talks, tough negotiations. Sometimes emotions even appear in them, but there is nothing extraordinary about it. I am convinced that the United Right, after reconstruction, even strengthened and consolidated, will function very well, and the government, thanks to these introduced changes, will operate even more effectively - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Polsat News' "Gość Wydarzeń".

20:18

PM Morawiecki on Sanctions Against Russia: "I Will Raise This Issue Unambiguously at the Next European Council Meeting"

- Now, at the next European Council meeting, this topic will certainly be raised. I promise you, I myself will raise this issue very unambiguously. Because I believe that the murder of political opponents is something so unimaginable that it brings to mind the worst times, and we cannot tolerate it in the slightest degree. Therefore, when I learned that German specialists themselves stated that Mr. Navalny was poisoned with Novichok, and only Russians have Novichok, I believe we do not need any more evidence. We should certainly impose far-reaching sanctions, both in the context of Belarus on a broader list of individuals, not just the 20 we initially discussed, and also discuss sanctions in the context of Russia - said Mateusz Morawiecki during an online Q&A.

20:24

Mateusz Morawiecki on "Czajka": The entire investment was carried out incorrectly about 10 years ago, or slightly less. It's known who was in charge in Warsaw then.
- The government is now helping the city of Warsaw, President Trzaskowski, for the second time to deal with this major ecological disaster and with this, let's be frank, disastrous investment in "Czajka" carried out by Civic Platform in Warsaw. We know today that improper materials were used there, the entire investment was carried out incorrectly about 10 years ago, or perhaps slightly less. It's known who was in charge in Warsaw then - said Mateusz Morawiecki in an online Q&A.

20:29

Morawiecki:

Weddings are a key hotspot for rapid virus transmission; discuss at next RZZK, no changes until late October, but curbs possible

- Weddings are, as it turns out, one of the important places today where rapid virus transmission occurs. There is no decision on this matter yet, but we will discuss it at the upcoming Government Crisis Management Team meeting. I can only promise that we will not introduce any changes regarding the current state until the second half or the end of October. However, whether we will implement certain restrictions, such as reducing capacity from 150 to 100 people, I cannot promise today - said Mateusz Morawiecki in an online Q&A.

20:37

PM on Bodnar: I Think It Wasn't the Best Term
I don't hide the fact that Mr. Adam Bodnar and I differ on our approach to many matters, and in particular, I believe that the Ombudsman should treat citizens equally. When one of our citizens, in a surge of emotion, fought against an unjust verdict in the case of miners at the Wujek mine – I mean Mr. Miernik – and was sentenced to unconditional imprisonment by the court, I consider it absolutely scandalous. It deeply moved us who come from "Solidarity". I don't know what ideological background Mr. Adam Bodnar comes from, but I haven't heard him comment on this matter or on the person who was fired from a certain corporation for quoting their interpretation of the Holy Scripture. These are topics that Mr. Bodnar did not react to appropriately, as well as many others. However, I am very open to cooperating with various people. Therefore, if the Ombudsman reacted to various signals of civil rights violations and injustices coming from the right, the left, from above, and from below, I would applaud Mr. Bodnar as well. But his five-year term is likely ending today. I think it wasn't the best term. To put it mildly – said Mateusz Morawiecki during an online Q&A.

Obajtek on the plan to achieve emission neutrality by 2050: 20% fewer emissions in refineries, 33% in energy over the first 10 years, and PLN 25 billion in investments
- All investments we are making and all acquisitions are aimed at building a multi-energy group that will be capable of undertaking the scope of the energy transformation. We need to merge, balance, and optimize expenditures. Through synergy, we can generate savings that we will invest in the transformation, into which we are already investing. Achieving emission neutrality means investing in RES, wind farms in the Baltic Sea, significant investments in petrochemistry and the production of biofuel additives over the first ten years. This will reduce emissions by 20% in refining and by 33% in the energy sector, for which we will spend approximately PLN 25 billion. There will also be green bonds and financing from the new EU perspective - said Daniel Obajtek in Gość Wiadomości.

Polish PM Discusses Belarus, China, and Turkey with EU Leaders
The head of the Polish government held a video conference with leaders of EU member states and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, during which he raised issues related to the current international situation, including in Belarus and Russia. EU leaders also discussed the EU's foreign policy (relations with China and Turkey). The aim of the meeting was to exchange views before the planned EU-China video conference on September 14 and the extraordinary European Council meeting on September 24-25 – informed the Prime Minister's Chancellery. The video conference was attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose country holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting also included the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Latvia, Malta, and Sweden.
