Monday's Political Agenda: Supreme Court on Presidential Election Validity

At 12:00, a session of the Supreme Court, comprising the entire Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs, will convene to adopt a resolution concerning the validity of the presidential election.

07:40

Szumowski:

It's too early to talk about a second wave. It's a result of two things. Firstly, a certain relaxation. We have a few clusters from family events. The second thing is large clusters, i.e., mines and production plants.
I think it's still difficult to talk about a second wave. I would rather say it's a result of two things. Firstly, indeed, a certain relaxation. We have a few clusters from family events, from weddings, from various gatherings. The second thing is again large clusters, that is, mines, production plants, and high numbers of infections are appearing there too, which is why we also have a large screening process - Łukasz Szumowski said in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on "Sygnały dnia" on Polish Radio Jedynka. It's hard to say it's a second wave. It's more like a ripple - the minister added.

07:43

Szumowski:

This Week We Begin Store Inspections, Carried Out by Police and Health Services, on Whether Customers and Staff Wear Masks

This week we are launching inspections in stores. Inspections carried out by both the police and health services to check if customers and staff are wearing masks. Unfortunately, it is necessary to remind people here that there is a law in force. You must cover your nose and mouth; there are no medical excuses – said Łukasz Szumowski on Radio Jedynka.

07:47

Szumowski:

I hope we'll get the vaccine soon. We're waiting for the turn of the year

- Work on drugs and a vaccine is progressing very quickly and dynamically, and I hope we will obtain this vaccine soon. We are in the group that negotiated with companies on behalf of the European Union for the purchase of this vaccine, and we are waiting, I hope, for the turn of the year - said Łukasz Szumowski on Radio Jedynka.

07:50

Szumowski on Returning to Schools: "We'd Like to Give a Chance for Some Regionalization. For Schools in Counties to React Differently Depending on the Epidemic Situation."

- We'd like to give a chance for some regionalization. For schools in counties to react differently depending on the epidemic situation. They could, for instance, introduce blended remote and in-class education, or for certain groups, where it is easier to implement, solely remote education. This would depend on the local capabilities of a given school – said Łukasz Szumowski on Jedynka radio.

08:00

Müller:

We are preparing a package of legislative changes to enable regionalization of restrictions and school operations

- We are currently preparing a package of legislative changes as well, in order to make several adjustments in specific regulations, and perhaps also in laws, that will enable regionalization [of restrictions] at many levels. This means, on the one hand, the regionalization of restrictions, such as the number of people present in a restaurant or shop, and specific sanctions in this regard. But also, for example, the regionalization of school operations, because that is also a variant that is being considered and we must have legal grounds to adopt such a variant. For instance, if there are no infections above a certain level in a given district, the school operates normally. If this level increases above a specified level, then the operation of the school is restricted - stated Piotr Müller in "Jeden na jeden" on TVN24.

08:09

Müller:

We want to clarify financial sanctions for businesses that do not comply with sanitary regulations
Currently, we have a Sejm session scheduled for this week. Therefore, if the need arises, and current analyses suggest it, such a correction will indeed be made in the form of a law. However, it is possible that changes in the regulation might suffice. Nevertheless, we also want to clarify, at the very least, the issue of financial sanctions for businesses that do not comply with sanitary conditions – stated Piotr Müller on TVN24's "Jeden na jeden". - First, we want to take a step concerning entrepreneurs, because many of them, unfortunately, do not adhere to the sanitary recommendations announced by the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, for example, regarding the distance between tables in restaurants, disinfection, or in workplaces. Therefore, we actually anticipate that sanctions in this area may be increased, and we will enforce them more rigorously, meaning there will be more individuals verifying whether these regulations are being followed – he continued, adding that there is even talk of a multi-fold increase in sanctions.

08:24

Müller:

Considering Regulation Change Allowing Face Shields for Those Declaring Breathing Difficulties

- We also want to clarify this issue, because let's remember that on one hand, there's an obligation to cover the mouth and nose; it doesn't have to be a mask, we have face shields when it comes to protection. Regarding the number of masks, face shields, etc., that's already at a level that ensures every citizen has such masks or face shields. Therefore, the question of whether this should be exempted for people who only declare health problems is indeed valid, because such a person who has breathing difficulties can wear a face shield, and thus we are actually considering changing the regulations in such a way that a person who declares they have breathing difficulties would simply wear a different type of item covering their nose or mouth, and this could be a face shield, which allows for normal breathing. This is one of the variants we are currently considering when modifying the regulation - stated Piotr Müller in "Jeden na jeden" on TVN24.

Müller on the Digital 500+ Voucher: No Such Plans. The 500+ Program Will Be Paid Out Classically, As It Has Been So Far

- There will be no [digital 500+ voucher]. There are no such plans. As far as I understand, the Prime Minister [Emilewicz] was speaking about social benefits in general. I don't know if she specifically mentioned the 500+ benefit. If she did, it doesn't matter. There are no such plans. I would like this to be clearly understood. The 500+ program will be paid out classically. As it has been so far - stated Piotr Müller in the "One on One" program on TVN24.

08:31

Zandberg on the Swearing-in of the President: "I would like it to be finally clear how this is supposed to look. The sanitary inspection had some reservations about Witek's plans."

I would like it to be finally clear how this National Assembly is supposed to look. From what I know, the sanitary inspection had some reservations about Marshal Elżbieta Witek's plans. Some new concepts are now emerging that only parliamentary caucuses should be represented at the assembly. It would be good if these decisions were made already” - said Adrian Zandberg from Lewica in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News.

08:33

Zandberg:

When Duda's election poster was hung on the cross at Giewont, none of those who are outraged today objected

Just a few weeks ago, during the election campaign, an election poster of Andrzej Duda was hung on the cross, the holiest symbol of Christianity, which stands on Giewont. At that time, none of those who are outraged today objected. When the Falubaz scarf is hung on the Christ of Świebodzin statue, I didn't even hear a word of outrage from the right-wing politicians, who are now agitated, directed at the fans” – said Adrian Zandberg from The Left in Polsat News.

12:25

Kierwiński:

Many MPs Are Considering Whether to Attend the National Assembly. I Haven't Decided Yet. I Know One Thing: Duda Was Elected in Elections I Believe Were Unfair.

- Many MPs are saying they are considering whether to attend this National Assembly, and I am considering it very seriously myself, but I haven't made a decision yet. I know one thing: President Duda was elected in elections which, in my opinion, were unfair elections. I am awaiting the Supreme Court's decision, which is expected today, although after Saturday's decision, which left the complaint of Rafał Trzaskowski's committee's plenipotentiary unresolved, I am not a particular optimist here - said Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Paweł Balinowski on RMF FM.

12:28

Kierwiński:

The Civic Platform's Full Action Plan to Be Presented in Early September

- The full action plan of the Civic Platform, the Civic Coalition, will be presented at the beginning of September. A new formula, new projects that the Civic Coalition, the Civic Platform, will be launching – said Marcin Kierwiński on RMF FM.

Supreme Court Rules Presidential Election Valid

The Supreme Court has ruled that the presidential elections, held in two rounds on June 28 and July 12, are valid. The Chamber of Extraordinary Review considered nearly 6,000 election protests over three weeks.

88% of these were dismissed without further proceedings, mainly due to formal errors, but also because the allegations did not fall within the definition of a protest or insufficient evidence was presented.

In 93 cases, the Supreme Court upheld the validity of the complaints, while simultaneously stating that they did not affect the final election outcome. The judges accepted protests concerning errors in the organization of postal voting (misaddressed packages, unsuitable envelopes, incorrect delivery deadlines), irregularities in the work of polling station committee members, and violations of the election silence.

14:01

President Duda in Krakow: In connection with the upcoming inauguration of another presidential term, I commemorate those who held this office before me and who have already passed away.

- In connection with the upcoming inauguration of another presidential term, I commemorate those who held this office before me and who have already passed away. It is probably no surprise to anyone that I am beginning this commemoration with the grave of my master, my president, Professor Lech Kaczyński, and his wife, Maria Kaczyńska. My visit here today on Wawel Hill is connected with this, to pay tribute and pray at the grave of the Presidential Couple, and also to be in my Krakow - stated President Andrzej Duda in Krakow.

14:18

President Duda on the State of the Epidemic in Poland: It is as everyone knows. There are several coronavirus hotspots in the country, and intensive testing is being conducted to eliminate the threat.

- It is as everyone knows [the state of the epidemic in Poland]. So, there are several coronavirus hotspots in our country at the moment, and very intensive tests are being conducted precisely to eliminate the threat as much as possible. Given that 35,000 tests are performed daily, we are detecting a lot of coronavirus cases, but this is a systematic and, one might say, programmatic fight against the epidemic, and I hope that thanks to this, the number of infections will ultimately decrease - stated President Andrzej Duda in Krakow.

- I appeal for maintaining distance and, if someone can, I also encourage wearing masks. However, not everyone can, not everyone likes it, and we are outdoors. We are dealing with this problem, we have already developed methods, and the number of infections in Poland during the epidemic was significantly lower than in other countries - PAD continued.

14:28

Grodzki:

We are in constant, direct contact with sanitary and epidemiological authorities and fully adhere to their recommendations

"We are in constant, direct contact with sanitary and epidemiological authorities and fully adhere to their recommendations. Senators who are in their places of residence will be contacted by the sanitary and epidemiological authorities. Those who are in Warsaw, we will try to organize for them, in accordance with the epidemiological interview, the possibility of being tested on-site in Warsaw on Wednesday," said Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki at a press conference.

15:20

Trzaskowski:

The Rainbow Flag Shouldn't Offend Anyone. I Will Stand Guard Over All Those Who Are Currently Attacked, Humiliated, and Simply Weaker
Unfortunately, sometimes the government that rules Poland today has a tendency to abuse its power, to oppress people who certainly have good intentions and who should be protected. I wanted to clearly announce this to you. The rainbow flag should not offend anyone. Certainly, such incidents as we have observed – meaning the police entering private residences – cannot occur in a democratic state. Let us hope that the police will thoroughly investigate whether they had any reasons for doing so. I want to make it clear that in the coming years, as I have repeatedly declared, I will stand guard over all those who are currently attacked, humiliated, and simply weaker. Regardless of whether this is because they are people with disabilities, or because they are fighting for the rights of sexual minorities, or because they need support for any other reason – said Rafał Trzaskowski in an online live broadcast.

Sasin on PAD's Inauguration: It's Important Not to Let All Key State Officials Be Quarantined
"I think that you can never be too careful. We need to assess whether this type of idea [only club delegations present at the inauguration] fulfills the constitutional provision that the president makes his oath before the National Assembly, or if the National Assembly can be in the form of parliamentary club delegations," said Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News. "Safety is of paramount importance, because among those who will be present will be not only MPs and senators, but also members of the government, the diplomatic corps, and guests, so it is important that in this situation, we do not allow all the most important people in the state to be forced into quarantine, or – God forbid – turn out to be infected," he added.

20:10

Sasin on organizing May 10th postal elections: 'I don't think there's any point in returning to this now. The opposition caused the elections not to be held within the constitutional deadline'
"I don't think there's any point in returning to this [organizing the May 10th postal elections] at this moment. What doesn't please me, first and foremost, is that it turned out that in Poland, democratic and constitutional rules can be thrown in the trash, because that's what effectively happened. Effectively, the opposition caused the elections not to be held within the constitutional deadline. This opposition, which for 4.5 years shouted that the constitution must be respected, appealed to the constitution, has brutally trampled on that constitution by not allowing [the elections] to take place," said Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin on Polsat News.

20:36

Sasin:

Nobody would want to participate in closing mines. It's a necessity, not my choice.

"Nobody would want to participate in a process like closing mines. I wouldn't want to participate in it either. It's not my choice, not my whim. Unfortunately, it is a hard necessity in the face of what is happening around Poland, concerning climate policy, and the fact that we are undergoing an accelerated energy transformation process, forced upon us by European institutions" – said Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin on Polsat News.

Gliński:

We cannot accept such insults in public life. Let Gajos remember who started the industry of contempt, aimed at the president who awarded him a professorial title.

Deputy Prime Minister Gliński commented on social media on the statement by Janusz Gajos, who said during Pol'and'Rock: - A small man, with one wave of his hand, divided our country and ourselves into two parts. This is a crime. We know such examples from history. This is how the worst things in the world came about. This is how what was later called Hitlerism came about.
