Both candidates who received the highest number of votes in the first round of the presidential election are returning to the campaign trail to seek voter support. President Andrzej Duda, seeking re-election, will visit today: Toruń (8:30), Rypin (10:30), Kwidzyn (13:45), and Starogard Gdański (16:30).

The Mayor of the capital city of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, will meet with residents in: Gabin (9:25), Płock (10:15), Brodnica (15:00), and Grudziądz (17:30).

The National Electoral Commission (PKW) also plans to hold its conferences at 10:00, 13:30, 18:30, and 22:00, although based on preliminary statements from PKW members, the results of Sunday's voting are expected to be known tomorrow or by Wednesday at the latest.

At 11:30, Robert Biedroń will organize his conference in front of Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.

– The second round is not decided. As you can see, the vast majority of voters are in favour of change. If the president doesn't win in the first round, it means voters don't want them as head of state again, but of course, hard work lies ahead – stated Borys Budka in "Rozmowa Piaseckiego" on TVN24.

- Today, the choice of Andrzej Duda is Jarosław Kaczyński's choice for the next 5 years, it's a choice of a single party's monopoly, but above all, it's a question of whether we want an honest state, where the head of state controls the government, or whether we want a silent state, a state where the nomenklatura enriches itself even during COVID at the expense of the state, which we have seen clear examples of in recent PiS scandals - stated Borys Budka in "Rozmowa Piaseckiego" on TVN24.

- Today I will talk to every contender of Rafał [Trzaskowski] to congratulate them on their results and thank them for the competition. Rafał already did that yesterday - stated Borys Budka in the "Piasecki Conversation" on TVN24.

- I think none of us treats anyone objectivally. We treat voters subjectively. We will try to talk to voters. Of course, it is important that if, for example, Szymon Hołownia says he will never vote for a PiS candidate, that is an obvious declaration, but here the most important thing is to treat the voter subjectively - he continued.

- We will discuss all variants. I dream of Szymon Hołownia joining the new Civic Platform in some form, or cooperating if he forms his own movement - stated Borys Budka in "Rozmowa Piaseckiego" on TVN24.

- If we can later jointly guarantee a strong, democratic majority in the Polish parliament, then perhaps the game is worth the candle. We have no enemies on the opposition side; we know where our adversary is, and that's why I am counting on good talks with Szymon Hołownia - he continued.

“I am very pleased with this result, because one had to be aware that there were 11 candidates in the first round of the elections and it is known that the spectrum of political programs and political views, in their details, was very broad. These votes were bound to be divided. A result over 40% was what I expected. I am satisfied that the lead over my opponent is very significant, because it is a large difference, and I enter the second part of the campaign with great optimism” - said President Andrzej Duda, running for re-election, on Jedynka radio.

"I believe I will win these elections. It's clear that Poles are assessing my 5 years of presidency favorably. This support is strong. There were other candidates too, who presented their programs, but in many points they were often close to mine. Their view on Poland is also very similar. However, we do have a certain large pool of shared values, for example with Mr. Krzysztof Bosak, a similar view on Poland and on how Polish affairs should be conducted in many points" - stated President Andrzej Duda, who is running for re-election, on Polskie Radio Jedynka.

- President Andrzej Duda will likely have over three million more votes than five years ago, so the result is truly very, very good. I myself had certain concerns that it could end below 40%, so I am very pleased, positively surprised - said Adam Bielan in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program 'Gość Radia ZET'.

“We all know what documents [Trzaskowski] signed. We all know that he signed the LGBT charter. We probably have clarity on what his views are and how he acted in Warsaw over the past year,” said President Andrzej Duda, running for re-election, in an interview with Jedynka radio.

“People absolutely cannot imagine such solutions being introduced in our country that are simply foreign. Most people approach it this way, and the issue of defending children, their upbringing. Please remember that the Polish family, the bond between parents and children, between grandparents and grandchildren in this Polish multi-generational family is very strong. When people imagine that a child could be adopted by a same-sex couple, they are devastated and absolutely disagree. This is completely not our cultural model,” he added.

“I have always been open to debates and have never had a problem with them. I am the first incumbent president to have participated in two debates on public television with all candidates. Neither Aleksander Kwaśniewski nor Bronisław Komorowski ever decided to do so. They refused to participate in such a debate,” said President Andrzej Duda, who is running for re-election, on Jedynka radio.

“If there are debates, with appropriate agreements between the campaign teams and the proper conditions of these debates are maintained, then I see no problems whatsoever with discussing with Mr. Trzaskowski on air and talking about what Poland ruled by his party looked like, and what his governance in Warsaw looks like,” he added.

- When we turn on TVN, dubbed Trzaskowski Vision Network, and what these people are doing in the final days of the campaign, I am currently watching Fakty and what is unfolding there is beyond human comprehension. We unfortunately have the so-called phenomenon of identity media, where media outlets are close to certain political forces - said Adam Bielan on Radio ZET.  

“I have already lived through times when there was such cohabitation with Civic Platform, a situation when the president was not from PO; it was President Lech Kaczyński. I know what happened then and how the president was hindered, how the president was undermined. I have no doubt what PO is capable of in this regard. If anyone thinks this will be some kind of benevolent reviewing and doing good things for Poland, they are mistaken. It will be one big blocking of all actions, ultimately leading to the overthrow of the government,” said President Andrzej Duda, who is running for re-election, on Jedynka radio.

- The incumbent president received 2.5 million more votes compared to the first round in 2015, so this is absolutely fundamental progress. Forty-something percent of voters cast their ballot for the incumbent president, and considering the atmosphere of hate and brutal attacks on the head of state, I believe it's a very good starting point for the second round - stated Michał Dworczyk in "Rozmowa Piaseckiego" on TVN24.

The Polish Ministry of Health has reported 247 new cases of coronavirus infection across the country. Of these, 78 cases were recorded in the Silesian Voivodeship.

„Jarosław Gowin should consider what is good for Poland, whether his statements are helping Poland, or rather, introducing a certain confusion, particularly in the minds of some of our citizens who are somewhat disoriented by the situation. Jarosław Gowin has a different opinion. An opinion that, in my view, is not helpful” – said Minister Marek Suski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus. 

- The most important thing is that we need to have a real debate. I said yesterday that I'm waiting for the President in Płock. There's a microphone. I will wait in every subsequent city, because today we need to talk about real problems, we need to talk about what interests us most and what hurts us most, and of course, the total monopoly of this government hurts us – said Rafał Trzaskowski in Płock.

- Look, if anyone remembers all these manipulations from recent years, it's me and the Mayor of Płock. And that, dear ladies and gentlemen, is precisely what these elections are about – so that we aren't constantly bombarded with these types of questions. Questions that have absolutely nothing to do with reality. Because you know perfectly well what stormwater discharge is and what it entails. If you don't, I'd advise you to ask experts. And everyone is fed up with this, with the manipulation, with fabricating issues. Do you really think anyone will fall for this, that you yourself will fall for the idea that when there's a storm and water flows into the Vistula, it causes some serious problem? Even though we have hundreds, if not thousands, of such situations? Is this truly the problem we should be debating today? Are the ruling party asking you to ask these questions? Is this what they want to focus on today? This question is really for President Duda, who endorses this television. It's a question for the president who had a clear choice: either allocate 2 billion PLN for oncology, or 2 billion PLN for questions about jam, about storms, instead of us addressing real problems - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a press briefing in Płock, when asked about "unpurified sewage flowing from Warsaw."

- But since the matter is serious, I want to say one more thing. Namely, we are facing one of the biggest economic crises in history. We will have truly very serious problems. If there is a monopoly of power, which translates into a monopoly of TVP, which reaches so many people, constantly presenting substitute topics, constantly manipulating reality, then simply, if there isn't an independent president, you will never learn about important matters from TVP. You will never learn about the real scandals, about what the government wants to do, and what the PiS president wants to do to deal with the economic crisis. You will never learn about it. Because there will always be substitute topics, the only thing on television called public will be attacks on local government officials who are managing day and night, even though their money is being taken away, they are constantly attacked. And the president cannot allow this. And here I direct my words to President Duda: are you really okay with this being the conversation during the election campaign? Are you really okay with all local government officials, who today are on the front lines of fighting the epidemic, on the front lines of fighting the economic crisis, being constantly attacked with substitute topics? Is this the debate you are proposing to us? We are also fed up with this - he continued.

When it comes to the economy, the most important thing is that a huge budget deficit is looming. That only problems are on the horizon. Allegedly PLN 100 billion, a 100 billion deficit. And today it's evident that the government is hiding basic facts from us, and that's why today there needs to be someone who will ask the government tough questions, who will summarize the recipes for action in this difficult situation, not someone who will talk about 8 years of governance from 5 years ago. Let's look to the future - stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Płock.

- We can guess what this government is planning, because they cope when the weather is good. When the weather is bad, as was evident after the epidemic, they are completely incapable. They cannot make rational decisions, and therefore, unfortunately, we can expect tax hikes, new taxes, we can expect the worst – that this government will not defend jobs. Mass layoffs are already being discussed. And that is why there must be someone who will guarantee control and who, like me, will say: no agreement on tax increases. No agreement on new taxes. No agreement on mass layoffs – stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Płock.

„From those in power, from representatives of power, Poles expect honesty above all else. The following weeks show us that representatives of the current government, unfortunately, are using the functions they hold to gain private benefits. Today's reports from one of the weeklies show that the family of Deputy Prime Minister Emilewicz may have illegally benefited while serving, without possessing the appropriate competencies, in entities dependent on the State Treasury. This is not the first example of how PiS politicians, even during the pandemic, are getting rich from holding high office. They enrich themselves or people associated with them. To this day, we have not seen Prime Minister Morawiecki fulfill his promise to disclose his wife's assets” - said Civic Platform leader Borys Budka at a press conference in the Sejm.

- There will be a process of consolidating two parties, the largest left-wing parties, namely Spring and the Democratic Left Alliance, into a new party. Also in the autumn, we will meet at a founding congress, after a programmatic congress during which we will establish common programmatic adjectives, where we will discuss the program. This program will become the basis, the foundation for the functioning of the new force, which will be a centre-left formation named Lewica – Robert Biedroń said during a press conference in Warsaw. 

- Personally, I thank those who trusted me, those who very often cast their vote for me again. Thank you. This is a truly great result. Many people did not expect me to achieve such a result. Some were very worried about it - stated President Andrzej Duda in Rypin.

- This difference of a dozen or so percent between me and the second contender is indeed a very decisive advantage. Much greater than it was 5 years ago. You remember, back then my lead after the first round over the then-President Komorowski was small. Today this lead is very large. But that does not mean we can rest on any laurels. Quite the contrary. Poland continues to need an enormous amount of work, and let this campaign be a symbol of what that work must be. I ask for your continued support, for your participation in the elections. I ask for your continued effort so that we can continue what was started 5 years ago. I ask you to continue talking with your families, acquaintances, friends. Tell them about Poland, about what has happened in this Poland over the last 5 years, so they can compare, remember, sit down calmly. For a moment, recall the years 2008-2015, what level they lived at then, how much they earned then, what their personal situation looked like, especially financially. What was said then in the public space, what was considered important, what issues were emphasized. Could they say that Poland was treated with pride, that Polish matters were truly put first, that what is Polish, to simply be Polish, paid off. That it was important. In my opinion, this has truly changed a lot in our country over the last 5 years, since 2015 - he continued.

- I will ensure that the 14th [pension] is also paid, just as the Prime Minister promised. He said it, we're holding him to his word, and I'm taking responsibility for it - stated President Andrzej Duda in Rypin.

I will tell you openly. When I hear Mr. Trzaskowski talking about thievery at the moment, and he himself was in a government during which 50 billion in VAT was stolen, I ask: Good heavens, what world do we live in? Does he really think people in Poland have no memory? - stated President Andrzej Duda in Rypin.

- We already know that President Andrzej Duda received over 3.3 million more votes than five years ago. A huge success for the President. That's over 2.5 million more votes than his main competitor, with whom the President will face off in the second round. Never before, except for the year 2000, when the elections were decided in the first round, has there been such a lead after the first ballot. A 2.5 million vote difference - Adam Bielan stated during a press conference.

- The PO candidate achieved the weakest result in these elections of all the presidential elections in which Civic Platform fielded its candidate. Many problems lie ahead for our competition, but I would be lying if I said we were worried about it - he added. 

- It is very important for voter turnout in elections to be high, as it also demonstrates the quality of democracy. Democracy is genuine when citizens actively participate in democratic processes. This is precisely what is happening here at the moment, and I must tell you that I am immensely grateful to you and proud that during the period when I serve as President of the Republic of Poland, the turnout in successive elections of various kinds has increased so significantly - said President Andrzej Duda in Kwidzyn.

I have agreed with President Donald Trump that our scientists will work together on a cure for the coronavirus. I believe that thanks to this, firstly, this cure will be found quickly, and secondly, that we Poles will have access to it. And that everyone who wants it, I repeat, everyone who wants it, will be able to use it – President Andrzej Duda said in Kwidzyn.

Everything that is Polish is worth supporting, and we do it, and I want to continue doing it, which is why I am asking for your help. Polish interests are absolutely my priority. I deal with Polish matters because my heart is Polish, and therefore I am asking for your support, which I need enormously. Mobilize yourselves, go to the polls in 12 days - said President Andrzej Duda in Kwidzyn. 

- Today, we need a president who is a strong president, one who wants to talk about tomorrow, not constantly about what has been, what has been settled. And unfortunately, when I hear President Duda, I see that he constantly wants to talk about the past, while we want to talk about tomorrow and, above all, solve real problems. This is because the question is, did President Duda answer your real problems, did he address even one issue that is important to you? - stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Brodnica.

- Today, we need to talk about solving real problems, about tomorrow, not constantly living in disputes that should have been settled long ago - he continued.

- I am talking to candidates and will talk to other contenders on the opposition side. Primarily about the program, about what's important to them. And do you know what Szymon Hołownia's most important program point is? Strong local governments - stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Brodnica.

- Today's government wants war with all independent institutions, wants war with local governments, and we will not allow it, and a strong president will not allow Polish local governments to be weakened, meaning he will not allow you to be weakened - stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Brodnica.

- We will discuss the climate catastrophe, how to address it, and how to ensure every Polish family receives funds to replace their coal furnace or install solar panels. These are the issues we need to talk about today - stated Rafał Trzaskowski in Brodnica.

"Today, cooperation means that the party leader gives orders, and the president executes them. What kind of cooperation is that, especially in difficult times when the government will be making tough decisions? These decisions could affect us all. What is needed then is a president who will be firm. The president submitted proposals to help those with Swiss franc mortgages, and what happened? Unfortunately, the government and Chairman Kaczyński did not take them seriously, and the president then had to back down. And we need a president who will support and force the government to implement solutions. Mr. President, it's a shame you didn't find time for a debate, it's a shame you didn't want to talk to citizens in Brodnica," said Rafał Trzaskowski, Civic Coalition's presidential candidate and Mayor of Warsaw, in Brodnica.

„We will force the government's hand on initiatives designed to help Swiss franc loan holders. If there are initiatives aimed at increasing the tax-free amount, we will of course agree. If pensions are to be guaranteed tax-free, I will cooperate with the ruling party on this. Any initiative that contributes to improving the lives of Polish women and men will be supported by me. There will be no agreement where the government wants to raise taxes, enrich itself at the state's expense, where the ruling party wants to attack local governments, and politicize all institutions” – said Rafał Trzaskowski, the Civic Coalition's presidential candidate and the mayor of Warsaw, in Brodnica.

- Not so long ago, specifically two months ago, it seemed like everything was decided. It was said: the current president will win, the elections will be purely a formality. Everything was pointing towards the fact that on May 10th, elections would simply take place, which would be neither democratic nor entirely direct. And what? Listen, we are in a completely different place today. We are in a place where we are neck and neck, and there is a big chance to win these elections - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Grudziądz.

- They don't perform in a crisis. They promised us a strong state, but they have dramatically weakened the state. Today, you see, precisely in these times, a strong president is needed. But you know why? Because if this government makes decisions that benefit citizens, that benefit Polish families, a strong president must be ready to cooperate, and I am ready to cooperate, if decisions are made on behalf of all of us, for the benefit of all of us. However, unfortunately, it's possible that this government will want to make decisions that raise taxes, or that this government will want to make decisions, we don't know, that will reduce jobs. After all, we hear such rumors, we hear such analyses, that this is how it could end. That is why, my dear friends, that is precisely why a strong, independent president is needed. Not a PiS president who will sign everything - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Grudziądz.

Let's talk, Mr. President, I am addressing you. Let's talk about jobs. Ask the government tough questions. What about Morawiecki's deficit? Will there be tough decisions? Will there be new taxes? This is what you, Mr. President, should be talking about, not talking for eight years. How long can you talk for eight years? Let's talk seriously about tomorrow - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Grudziądz.

- We proposed a conversation about real solutions for the future. Not just shouting slogans. This is a great victory for Szymon Hołownia too, and for all who voted for him. For his strength of character, for his idealism, for fighting to the end, for clearly stating that local governments must be defended, that animal rights must be prioritized, that the climate catastrophe must be fought. Mr. Szymon, all these things are incredibly important to me. They are in my program. I will talk with you about how to implement these postulates. I assure you that the doors of my chancellery, should I become President of the Republic of Poland, will always be open to people with ideals, to people with ideas, to people who care about something - said Rafał Trzaskowski in Grudziądz.

They raised the retirement age, and Rafał Trzaskowski called it a modernization achievement. This is what all Poles protested against. This is what they gathered signatures for to hold a referendum on. Millions of signatures across Poland. This is what workers from Solidarity, working people from all trade unions protested against. Everything was broken, everything was destroyed, and the retirement age was forcibly raised - said President Andrzej Duda in Starogard Gdański.

- I am glad that there will be great, ambitious jobs [Microsoft and Google] for young people. I believe they will also be very well paid. Young people from many countries will probably compete for them. Perhaps from all over the world. And ours will have to compete with them, and that's very good, because I believe they will cope, because young Poles are capable and can handle it. But ladies and gentlemen, I want precisely the kind of Poland that creates such opportunities, that offers such chances, that has its own offer for the young, so that they don't have to leave Poland, so that they can find employment in global companies in our country - said President Andrzej Duda in Starogard Gdański.

- Rafał Trzaskowski is in contact with his deputies, services are operating normally. At the moment, the city is passable. If there is such a need, he will of course appear in Warsaw tonight. For now, forecasts indicate that these precipitation levels will not be so severe - said Borys Budka in a conversation with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News.

- These are all consequences, among others, of climate warming, consequences of weather anomalies. We must remember that cities need to be designed differently now, with more greenery, less concrete. The capacity of any drainage system cannot cope with such heavy rainfall. I am, of course, carefully observing the investments, which are unfortunately decreasing in Poland for flood protection. This is perfectly visible in Podkarpacie - said Borys Budka in Polsat News. 

- If we look at Poland similarly, it is pleasing that some proposals are common. If we talk about tax-free pensions or pensions that will motivate people to remain professionally active, if we talk about ecological issues, if we speak about modern education, Poland's position in the EU, or strong local government, these were postulates that united all candidates. Today, it is evident that a vast majority of Polish women and men have opted for change. 57% of voters said 'no' to this presidency. A weak, non-autonomous, dependent on Nowogrodzka presidency - said Borys Budka on Polsat News.

- I prefer Rafał Trzaskowski, who is authentic, decisive, and independent, who is not ashamed of coming from a specific background, over Andrzej Duda, who pretends to suddenly be a great, independent candidate, yet for five years has been remotely controlled from Nowogrodzka Street like a puppet – said Borys Budka on Polsat News.

- In the first round, it turned out that over 50% of Poles support a center-right program, a center-right worldview, and a vision for the country's development – Michał Dworczyk said in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News.

- Similarly, Chairman Kosiniak-Kamysz's program, as well as that of some of Mr. Hołownia's voters, are all people who share such a center-right vision of the world – he added.

„Perhaps there will be a casting call for debate offers? If other highly attractive proposals emerge, the president will consider them all and choose one that will be acceptable to both campaigns. I don't know if he will consider this particular proposal [from TVN, Onet, and WP] to be the most prudent. I believe that the media themselves will show up for the casting, but I am convinced that Andrzej Duda will not avoid a debate” – said Professor Andrzej Zybertowicz in an interview with Piotr Marciniak on TVN24's "Fakty po Faktach".

This is another situation where the government has to intervene when Warsaw is in trouble. We all remember the breakdown of the Czajka sewage treatment plant, when after several days the government had to join the action because millions of hectoliters of sewage were flowing directly into the Vistula River. Today, everyone can also see, either through traditional media or social media, what a flooded Warsaw looks like. How many institutions, how many different kinds of public utility places are simply cut off and cannot function. Therefore, the Prime Minister is naturally convening the crisis staff; over 400 interventions by the State Fire Service, reinforcements brought in from outside Warsaw. In this situation, obvious help is simply needed, and unfortunately, Warsaw residents cannot always count on such help from Mr. Rafał Trzaskowski - said Michał Dworczyk on Polsat News.

- The President is the first president who has already participated in a pre-first-round debate twice; his predecessors did not show up for such debates. We remember Bronisław Komorowski, who did not participate. He is ready to meet for a debate. Coincidentally, on Thursday, we have a large meeting in the Lubusz Voivodeship. On my way to the studio, I saw an invitation from public television in a new format, a town hall, a format known from the USA. One of the three debates there takes place in such a format that the audience asks questions. On Monday, we will be at a debate in Końskie. We are awaiting Rafał Trzaskowski in a symbolic location, about which Grzegorz Schetyna said that elections are not won in Wilanów, likely a favorite spot of TVN journalists, but precisely in Końskie – said Adam Bielan in Kropka nad I.

„Rafał Trzaskowski received fewer votes in Warsaw with a higher turnout than during the mayoral election. This means that some of his supporters from that election have turned away from him, have doubted him, his leadership abilities” – said Professor Andrzej Zybertowicz on TVN24.

- Regardless of the political views of Poles, we want to warn against a scenario where Rafał Trzaskowski wins, because regardless of whether someone holds left-wing, right-wing, or centrist views, it will mean paralysis of the state and a war between the president and the government. Regardless of whether someone agrees with the president, they must take responsibility for their choice, because during a profound crisis that has gripped the entire world, Poland's executive power would be paralyzed by dispute - said Adam Bielan in Kropka nad I.

- Trzaskowski says one thing before elections and another after. The president said he would introduce the 500+ program and he did, he said he would lower the retirement age and he did. There is more aid for borrowers, the president said that this promise could not be fully fulfilled - said Adam Bielan on Kropka nad I.

- The President has a stronger constitutional position in Poland than the Senate, and please look at what is happening in the Senate, which is controlled by Civic Platform, where everything is blocked. Everything that is not aligned with Civic Platform's agenda is held up for 30 days. Trzaskowski would also have veto rights, and I am convinced he would abuse this right - said Adam Bielan on Kropka nad I.

- Szymon Hołownia is closer to Civic Platform.
