Sobolewski on Presidential Elections: PiS Working Groups Lead by Brudziński and Szydło, Confident of Continued Success

- Since 2018, Law and Justice has been working continuously, with various working groups in place. At their head and as members are individuals from the PiS leadership, including the party's vice-chairman, Joachim Brudziński, and the former Prime Minister, also a vice-chairwoman, Beata Szydło. Over the course of three subsequent campaigns, the groups under their leadership have demonstrably worked very effectively, and we see no reason why it should be any different should this campaign commence. Let us hope for another victorious, fourth consecutive one, and here too, it will come as no surprise that these individuals will be at the forefront responsible for the election campaign – said Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on "Sygnały dnia" on Radio Jedynka.

- The moment Madam Marshal Witek announces the election date, we will officially present the campaign staff – the politician added.

07:40

Sobolewski:

Currently, there's no possibility for Civic Platform to withdraw its candidate, which frankly doesn't bother us. The more the Marshal speaks, the better.

- Currently, from what I can see, there's no possibility for Civic Platform to withdraw its own candidate, which frankly doesn't bother us. After what the Marshal has been saying, the more she speaks, the better – said Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Katarzyna Gójska on "Sygnały dnia" (Signals of the Day) on Jedynka radio.

Fogiel on Macron's Visit: Primarily, we hope this visit indeed signifies that we've left behind this brief period of somewhat poorer relations

- Primarily, we hope this visit indeed signifies that we've left behind this brief period of somewhat poorer relations. Let's remember that fundamentally, France is our ally within NATO, within the European Union, and the Weimar Triangle, and these relations are good, so we can't speak of any dramatic crisis here - said Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Karol Gac on Poranek Siódma9.

08:43

Dworczyk:

If we talk about projects that have appeared in the public sphere so far and were primarily aimed at affirming same-sex unions, I would not vote for such a project.

- No, I would not vote for such a bill [legalizing registered partnerships]. Of course, we are also talking about something that doesn't exist. Therefore, I cannot resolve and say what decision I would make 100%, however, if we are talking about those projects that have appeared in the public sphere so far and, in my opinion, were primarily aimed at affirming same-sex unions, then I would not vote for such a project - stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:48

Dworczyk Asked if He's Surprised by PAD's Declaration on Civil Unions Bill: 'I'm Not Surprised. Every Politician Makes Decisions Individually.'
I'm not surprised [by President Duda's declaration regarding civil unions], because every politician makes decisions individually, and I must emphasize: today, engaging in such speculation without a bill, a draft bill, on the table, doesn't make much sense from my perspective. Perhaps the President was referring to a specific project, or the conversation had a certain context. I've presented my stance on this matter quite clearly – stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:51

Fogiel:

If Tusk is a proponent of telling friends unpleasant truths, he would serve Poland much better by telling his friend Merkel a few unpleasant words about Nord Stream 2 construction.
"If Donald Tusk is such a great proponent of telling his friends unpleasant things, he would serve Poland much better if he told his friend Angela Merkel a few unpleasant words about the construction of Nord Stream 2" – said Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Karol Gac on the Poranek Siódma9 program.

08:58

Fogiel:

Anyone Talking About Polexit Is Talking Nonsense and Harming Poland

- If I wanted to be malicious, I would say that Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska published a photo on social media where she is reading a brochure with the inscription 'Brexit Guide'. What does that mean? It means she's reading a Brexit guide, so is Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska trying to lead us out of the Union? But let's talk seriously. Anyone who talks about some kind of Polexit is talking nonsense and, secondly, harming Poland – said Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Karol Gac on Poranek Siódma9.

Miller on Judicial Changes: Kaczyński Will Go for Confrontation, Believing the EU is a Paper Tiger and Nothing Bad Will Happen

"[Jarosław Kaczyński] will go for confrontation, because he believes that [the European Union] is a paper tiger and nothing bad will happen, so this bar can be moved higher and higher. In a sense, he's right, because Orban has been on the blacklist for years, and what of it? He's in the EPP" - stated European Parliament member of the European Coalition Leszek Miller in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on TOK FM Radio's Morning Show.

09:03

Dworczyk:

We Did Not Break Off Contact on Caracal Purchase; the Contract Was Simply Not Signed. Parties Did Not Reach an Agreement
We did not break off contact [regarding the purchase of Caracals]; the contract was simply not signed. If a contract had been signed, please tell me who signed it and when, given that it was allegedly broken off? It was not signed because the parties did not reach an agreement. This is what happens in business: parties do not reach an agreement, and then even very advanced discussions, in this case leading to the signing of a contract, end with the document not being signed, stated Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

09:03

Miller:

I don't believe PAD would sign the partnership bill. I don't think he's had such an epiphany. This is dictated by the specifics of the election campaign.

I am surprised and do not believe that [PAD would sign the partnership bill]. Judging by what the president has been saying for years, I don't think he's had such an epiphany. It's an election campaign, so the president's strategists probably advised him to turn towards an electorate that will not necessarily vote, but might vote for the president. I think this is dictated by the specifics of the election campaign” - said European Parliament member Leszek Miller of the European Coalition in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on TOK FM Radio's Poranek.

10:56

Szymański on Macron's Visit: The Agenda is Unprecedentedly Broad

This is the first official visit to Warsaw. Its scope, the agenda is unprecedentedly broad, as the President is arriving here with several ministers: the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Economy, Climate, and Culture. On our side, the delegation will also be significantly broader than usual” - said Minister for European Affairs Konrad Szymański on „Trójka Political Salon”.

12:07

Macron Begins Visit to Poland

The first item on the agenda is a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and President Andrzej Duda. The press conference is scheduled for 12:30 PM, but it appears it will take place a little later – the welcoming ceremony was supposed to begin at 11:20 AM.

12:42

Budka:

A Permanent Committee to Combat Cancer in the European Parliament is Now Certain Thanks to Our Group's Initiative

- An opportunity to meet with EPP leaders, but also an opportunity to confirm the fulfillment of a promise that was raised and strongly emphasized by Platforma and European Coalition parliamentarians during the EP election campaign. We are pleased that, thanks to the initiative of our group in the EP, it is now certain that a permanent committee to combat cancer will be established. This is important news for residents, especially in Poland, but also for the entire EU. This issue is now on the EP's agenda, and it will truly have a real dimension of how the EP can influence the resolution of problems in our country as well. I am glad that we can go out to our voters, Polish women and men, with such a positive message, because the EP, like other EU institutions, is there to also solve the everyday problems that Poles face. If not at this session, then at the next one, these key decisions will be made, but I have an assurance, and I want to say this clearly, that a permanent committee to combat cancer will be established in the EP, and this is something we should all be proud of, that we managed, thanks also to the very great commitment of our delegation leader Andrzej Halicki, as well as Prime Minister Kopacz and other MEPs from our country, to reach such understandings, and for this, I am very, very satisfied – stated Borys Budka at a briefing in Brussels.

12:54

Budka:

I regret Macron's visit to Poland is so late, it shows government's weak diplomacy

- I regret that this visit [by the President of France] is so late. President Macron visited, I believe, 20 other countries before coming to Poland. This shows that the relations of the Polish government with France, these diplomatic relations, are not at a high level. Unfortunately, it also shows the weakness of our diplomacy. I regret this because once, during the rule of Civic Platform and the Polish People's Party, Polish diplomacy was held up as a model of proper cooperation with our partners. I would like to recall the cooperation within the Weimar Triangle, good relations with individual governments. Unfortunately, now this very bad, anti-European narrative of the Polish government translates into these kinds of poor diplomatic relations. I hope this will be a fruitful decision. I am pleased because, if I am not mistaken, there will be a meeting between the Marshal of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, and the President [of France], so it will be an opportunity to primarily show the President, to prove that Poles are a nation that highly values European cooperation, cooperation on equal terms, and I believe that already in May of this year there will be a breakthrough and our diplomacy will return to the good track for which we were famous over the last 30 years - stated Borys Budka at a briefing in Brussels.

- First and foremost, it is a matter of cooperation, values, the fact that Europe is based on values, and I count on President [Macron], like the leaders of other member states, to clearly advocate for values, for the fact that communities are not just about economic interests, that the EU cannot be treated as an ATM, while forgetting what is the foundation on which communities were built, because I would like to recall that such a foundation includes, among other things, the principle of the rule of law and respect for the independence of the judiciary. I hope that this strong, good voice from France will show that the Polish government should not, against the will of Polish society, the majority, behave as if Poland could be the next country after Great Britain on the path to leaving the EU - the Civic Platform leader continued.

13:11

Budka:

We Need Good Cooperation with France, Strengthening Our Relations within the EU, and I Hope This Visit Will Also Lead to That

- Good cooperation with France, Germany, within the EU is a matter of our country's security. Because I will remind you that if Polish diplomacy plays only on one piano, relying solely on relations with the USA, then unfortunately, that is not good policy. We need good cooperation with France, we need to strengthen our relations within the EU, and I hope that this visit [of the French President] will also lead to that - stated Borys Budka at a briefing in Brussels.

14:03

Macron Post-Brexit: We Must Unite and Tighten Our Alliance to Function in an Uncertain World and Respond to European Challenges

We must unite and tighten our alliance so that we can function in an uncertain world. We know the European situation. To respond to European challenges” - said French President Emmanuel Macron after meeting with President Andrzej Duda.

I am convinced that we can do even more in the areas of energy, cybersecurity, industrial cooperation, and defense. There is still a lot of work ahead of us. We have many common issues and beliefs” - he added.

14:07

President Duda on Macron's Visit: I Believe This is a Breakthrough in Polish-French Relations

- We are very happy with today's visit to Warsaw, to Poland, by the President and the entire French delegation, a very broad one with many ministers, and this entire event holds great significance for us. Above all, I deeply believe that it marks a breakthrough in Polish-French relations, particularly through the signing of a cooperation program which fulfills the declaration on strategic cooperation signed in 2008, nearly 12 years ago, as it was in May 2008. Today's meeting, where the cooperation program was established, is a very extensive document regulating cooperation between Poland and France in virtually all areas, starting with military cooperation, through political, industrial, economic, and social cooperation, in many areas of life where relations between states are normally conducted, also in the field of science, research and development cooperation; all these issues are addressed there. This is an exceptionally important moment, and I am very grateful to the President for coming to us at this specific time – stated President Andrzej Duda during a press meeting with the President of France.

14:14

Macron:

I Vehemently Defended Poland and the Polish Nation Against Unacceptable Attacks on Historical Memory

"A clear definition of our common interests and European values is crucial in the current context. Under the patronage of President [Duda], last week's celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz were organized, attended by the Prime Minister of France. The memory of these events must remain alive, as these painful memories illuminate our path and set our direction; they formed the foundation of the European project, peace, unity, and freedom. In this regard, I vehemently defended Poland and the Polish nation against unacceptable attacks on this memory" - said French President Emmanuel Macron after meeting with President Andrzej Duda.

14:15

Duda:

The EU Will Have to Take on a New Shape. Britain's Departure from the EU Means a New Deal and a New Opening

- Great Britain has left the EU, what we conventionally called Brexit has happened, and this is a completely new situation for the EU. But within this union, if we look at it, France today undoubtedly represents a European-scale power, and France's role within the EU after Brexit has undoubtedly grown enormously. Therefore, I am enormously pleased that precisely now, at this moment, the President of France is directing his first steps towards us, towards Poland, signing this extremely important declaration with us, and thus sending a signal of his deep interest in our part of the EU and its affairs, and consequently also in how the EU will continue to develop and what this new shape of the EU will be. Because we have no doubt that the union will have to take on a new shape in some sense, that Great Britain's departure from the EU means a new deal and a new opening, that roles within the EU will have to be reorganized in some sense, and that the European architecture must by force of circumstance undergo a rebuilding in some sense. The question is how to do this in a way that is best for our countries, and above all for our societies, and so that the EU itself functions more efficiently in the future, is attractive, a union from which no one will want to leave anymore, because it will simply be profitable to be a member of the EU, for many reasons. Not only because we have the Schengen area, because we have many other conveniences, but above all because the union will function well economically, because there will be mutual respect, well-established cooperation, and because the EU member states together will truly constitute an economic community with global potential, because that is what we would like to strive for and what all those who want to responsibly manage European affairs look upon with hope - stated President Andrzej Duda during a press meeting with the President of France.

14:18

Macron:

In talks with PAD, I expressed concern regarding justice system changes. I would like to see dialogue with the European Commission intensify in the coming weeks.
“In my conversation with President Duda, in the spirit of full openness that we owe each other as European partners, I expressed concern regarding the changes currently being introduced to the justice system. I would like to see dialogue with the European Commission intensify in the coming weeks. I know that in Poland, as its history shows, the values of freedom and justice are deeply rooted. Poland is a profoundly European country, and Poles are one of the most pro-European nations on the continent,” said French President Emmanuel Macron after his meeting with President Andrzej Duda.

14:21

Macron:

To deepen our cooperation, I would like to propose a Weimar Triangle summit in the coming months. A key responsibility for Europe rests on our shoulders.

I would like this visit to be a turning point in our common, European role in tackling the climate challenge. Our dialogue will continue in a spirit of understanding, transparency, and sincerity. To deepen our cooperation, I would like to propose a Weimar Triangle summit in the coming months, which will also be attended by the Chancellor of Germany, as a key responsibility for Europe rests on our shoulders” - said French President Emmanuel Macron after meeting with President Andrzej Duda.

18:55

PM after meeting with Macron: We committed to revitalizing the Weimar Triangle format

"The President and I found an astonishing number of areas [that unite us]. It is a great joy that we succeeded. We committed to revitalizing the Weimar Triangle format. This is a very good format, because Poland, France, and Germany, after the UK's departure, represent 42% of the entire EU's population and at the same time are like-minded states, thinking similarly in many areas, both regarding the strengthening of Europe, European industries, and the development of new technologies. I am very happy that within the framework of the Weimar format, we have promised to bring our positions closer together" - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after his meeting with the President of France.

19:09

Macron:

France Has Never Hidden Its Stance on Rule of Law Issues in Poland. It Supports the European Commission's Position and Its Work in This Area.

France has never hidden its position on these issues [rule of law in Poland]. There have been many public statements from me. I have always expressed myself very clearly, supporting European procedures, supporting our values. I spoke about this clearly in conversation with both the President and the Prime Minister, but this is a European issue. It is not a bilateral issue. It is a European issue because it concerns us all. It is not the case that we have one country judging what another country does or giving lessons. I would like to emphasize this because one could do something for their own audience by coming and giving lessons. France does not want to give lessons to anyone, but it is always important for us to strengthen respect for our values and principles. This concerns our common values and concerns common institutions. It concerns the European Commission, the ECJ, the Council of Europe. These are the institutions responsible for ensuring compliance with the principles, and it is they who initiated the procedure and dialogue. We fully support them, and I would like this dialogue to be maintained and to end successfully” - said French President Emmanuel Macron after meeting with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

France supports the European Commission's position and the work it must undertake in this regard” - he added.

19:11

PM's Response to Macron's Stance on Rule of Law in Poland: Poland, by Implementing Justice Reform, Defends True European Values

I might add one sentence to the second [question]. Poland, by implementing justice reform, defends true European values” - Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki responded to President Emmanuel Macron during a press conference.

19:33

WKK:

It's Good That the French President Is Visiting. It's a Shame It's So Late
It's good that the French president is visiting. It's a shame it's so late. We are the 21st European country visited by President Macron - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

19:38

WKK:

I want Poland to take Great Britain's place at the EU's main table. To be in the EU's top five

- Cooperation [with France] in defense is, for example, very interesting. It was broken off after the cancellation of the Caracal deal. Unfortunately, we lost out on that, because when constructing the tank, France and Germany did not want to see Poland and Polish scientists, because we disrupted these economic relations and also became an unpredictable partner. In order to return to this predictability, to be a strategic partner for France, and I would want Poland, and this is my task as a presidential candidate, and later as president, for Poland to take Great Britain's place at the main table of the European Union. To be in the EU's top five - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program 'Gość Wydarzeń' on Polsat News.

19:43

WKK:

President Duda Doesn't Guarantee an Improved Position for Poland in the EU, as He Didn't Achieve It in Five Years. Poland's Position is Weaker.
Firstly, President Duda does not guarantee an improved position for Poland in the EU, because he did not achieve it over the past five years. Poland's position is weaker, and there are no indications that the next five years of Andrzej Duda's presidency would lead to an improvement in Poland's position in the EU. Why wouldn't Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska do it either? This is not a statement against her, but her political camp is in a permanent conflict; this conflict is between Civic Platform and the Law and Justice party, it's a tug-of-war, and to change our position in the EU, one must cooperate with the government - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in a conversation with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

19:47

WKK:

"I Won't Squabble Over a Seat in Brussels. I Don't Want a Repeat of the Platforma-PiS Squabble"
"I won't squabble over a seat in Brussels. I don't want a repeat of the situation of squabbling over a seat in Brussels that occurred between Platforma and PiS. I don't want such situations to happen; I want Poland to be at the main table, to be a country that deals the cards, to draw positive solutions from the detrimental Brexit for us," said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

19:55

WKK:

The Constitution Mandates Cooperation Between the President and Government on Foreign Policy and Security. I Won't Beat Around the Bush, I Won't Just Say 'No.' I'll Say 'Yes, But.'

- The Constitution, which we so often refer to, mandates cooperation between the executive authorities: the President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the government, for the sake of the foreign policy and security of the Polish state. This is my commitment as a candidate: I will adhere to the constitution in this regard. And I will act. I may disagree with the government. I may not sign every law if it's as foolish as what they are currently presenting in the justice system. But if I want to improve foreign policy, if I want to improve Poland's position on the international stage, then the Prime Minister travels to the European Council. Without consultation, without discussions, and without setting conditions. I will not do that. I am a realist, I walk on the ground, and I speak about how I will proceed. I will not beat around the bush and I will not just say 'no' because it's 'no,' but I will say 'yes, but' - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

20:11

Szczerski:

You Can't Build Europe's Future Without Poland, and He [Macron] Also Seems to Have Reached This Conclusion, That He Must Consult His Plans with Warsaw Too, and This is an Important Signal
- An important visit at an important moment. The first working day after Brexit, the President of France is in Warsaw. This means that you cannot build Europe's future without Poland, and he also, as I understand it, has reached the conclusion that he must consult his plans with Warsaw too, and this is an important signal. Security and economic development should unite us - said Krzysztof Szczerski, Head of the President's Chancellery, on Gość Wiadomości.

20:11

Szczerski:

French media expected that statement, and he delivered it ritualistically, not with the frontal attack on Poland the opposition anticipated.
- It was a kind of obligatory ritual. I think that the French media simply expected that statement from him, and he delivered it in a rather ritualistic manner. And I think that, given the scale of what we've heard and what the opposition expected, it was supposed to be some kind of frontal attack on Poland, which didn't happen. I think it was a very pragmatic visit; it was a very serious conversation, one of the most serious I've listened to, a conversation between the Polish president and the French president, because over these years of lacking dialogue, problems have accumulated that need to be discussed - said Krzysztof Szczerski, head of the Presidential Cabinet, in Gość Wiadomości.

20:12

Szczerski:

The message was that strategic cooperation cannot be built without Poland, and unnecessary words from the past must be set aside
- The message was that strategic cooperation cannot be built without Poland, and unnecessary words from the past must be set aside - said Krzysztof Szczerski, Head of the Presidential Cabinet, on Gość Wiadomości.

Macron Meets with Kidawa-Błońska. MKB's Associate: "A Very Good One-on-One Conversation"

The President of France, currently in Poland, met this evening with the Civic Platform's candidate for president.

As we hear from the associates of the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm: - A very good one-on-one conversation, about the future of the Union and strengthening cooperation with France.

20:18

Szczerski:

The President Will Announce His Decision Shortly After the Sejm Marshal Announces the Election Date
- The President will announce his decision shortly after the Marshal of the Sejm announces the decision on the election date - said Krzysztof Szczerski on Gość Wiadomości.

Sasin on French President's Remarks on Justice System: A Clear Shift in Tone from President Macron, Who Previously Spoke Harshly About Poland

- I must say that this is a clear shift in tone from President Macron, who in the past spoke very harshly about Poland. I would even say that he strongly attacked Poland. This time, as all commentators have noted, his remarks were very measured - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

20:27

Sasin:

It's good that judges are finally disciplined, as I truly wouldn't want to live in a country where judges are above the law
It's good that judges are finally disciplined, as I truly wouldn't want to live in a country where judges are above the law. Where they can commit crimes and face no punishment for it - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" TVN24.
